There was a case she preside over, where this tenant/woman had a list of damages from a toilet backing up from the upper apartments. Every time some flushed the toilet the raw sewage would dump into her apartment! One of the items were for replacement bathroom towels ($50) that she used to clean up the sewage water. The judge in her wisdom side no, that she can wash them! WTF!!! I don’t know about her sometimes!
Wrong. My boyfriend of 15 years comes over every day to hang out then goes back to his house. My son and daughter used to visit me every day and they had their own apartments. Just when you thought you had a pearl of wisdom. Is that how it goes in your world? Ridiculous.
She has a lot of people who service her mother AND everyone is bringing laundry to do it at her house? Yeaaa.. some of those people prolly brought those roaches smh 🤦🏽♀️
To prove there wasn’t a leak, you hire a plumber to write up something or bring them in to say there wasn’t a leak. Or bring in the water bill the month after she left that proves it was the plaintiff that used that water.
I like the idea of bring in the water bills the moth after the tenant left and would have bought all the rest to prove the point the lady was a jerk and used the water. I bet she left the faucets run too!
all she had to do was contact the water co, they'll investigate it to see if there's a leak somewhere, or the city. it's an easy fix, she just didn't want to do it or she chose to run her sink all night which is what probably happened. I owned my house for 17 years, had this happen, it's an extremely easy fix.
I once moved into a brand new appartment and there were tiny roaches in it. They were inside a piece of the countertop. Thankfully, I was able to get rid of them.
I lived in a apt and my water bill was close to the same every month. Then all of a sudden it started to climb. I brought it to the managers attention after the 2nd big increase. By the 3rd increase it was up to $1000. The leak wasn't inside my place it ended up being outside underground. My water bills were always in the $30s. Doesn't always ring true just because you don't see a leak doesn't mean there isn't one.
I think the Judge Should have made the judgement contingent on the landlord supplying the first bill without the renter living there. That way she could see if the bill dropped. $1,000 sound more like a water leak to me. Something had to be running all the time to get to that, or it was a billing error. If the Bill didn't drop the problem was still ongoing, so it was some kind of leak.
I agree. I had an issue in my house where the water bill shot up to hundreds of dollars. It was just before I moved out but coincided with a neighbor installing a wet bar outside in his yard. Never was able to figure out what it was but it was either a leak or something to do with the neighbor.
if the water bill becomes that high then she should have contacted the water co & had them check it out to see if there's a leak, or ask the city to check if there's a leak underground somewhere. I had this happen in my house, it can be investigated instead of blaming someone else. This is a landlord that was trying to get money, nothing more nothing less. and those damages were petty as hell. People live there, it happens. unless they're burning the place down I don't see any issues.
A high water bill can also be from a running toilet that ppl think is normal. My tenant kept denying it until I checked myself. Bill went from $150-$950 just from that.
Omg I had that issue! It’s so minor and admittedly you don’t think much of it (or at least I didn’t) and then BAM, your next month’s bill is $500. Mine actually quickly spiraled to over $1K. Finally paid it off (and fixed the toilet obvz)
My parents managed an apartment building for more than 20 years and often accepted Section 8 tenants. 9 out of 10 times, they have drug/alcohol issues and, when they were evicted for not paying rent (as the majority of them were), they left the unit a mess...often with roach or bed bug infestation. Over the years, my parents found used needles in abandoned apartments, torn up carpet, graffiti on the walls, thousands of dollars of damage to the unit etc...it's not worth it. If I were a landlord, I'd refuse to rent to Section 8 people because it's nothing but a headache.
Aside from the water bill being so high, why is it any business of the landlord how many clothes get washed or who washes them?? Idk I feel like the landlord was way over stepping boundaries. As long as the visitors weren't staying more than 5-6 days consecutively then it also wasnt her business who comes to stay at the tenants apartment. Because... you know.. she pays for it to be her home which entails some privacy. I definitely dont think the tenant was easy to get along with and likely was frustrating though

Landlord will fabricate excuses to try to keep the deposit. Termites are not the fault of the tenant, could be treated by in-plants in the ground. Roaches could be exterminated by “Maxforce” gel, unless they’ve developed immunity, then you need rotation treatment. Ie if you want to exterminate yourself , otherwise pay the $750 to hire an exterminator. Water bill definitely is a leak, most likely a leaky toilet. The tenant could threaten not to vacate the place, unless the rightful deposit is returned, and that should hopefully get the landlord to return it- however if one doesn’t vacate, the reputation is ruined, so make sure it is just. For the landlord - she knows what mess tenants leave behind, and it is quite a job to renovate the place for the next tenants.
I would never rent to someone from section 8. There's some good people on section 8 that are on hard times but the odds of getting a bad tenant from section 8 is way too high though. They will thrash your place and any money you made off your rental will go to repairing all the damage they did.
it used to be like that with section 8 yrs ago. Today however it's average middle class employed college educated families utilizing section 8. Quite a lot of them today owned their homes for decades. After the market crash & covid, a large percentage of section 8 users aren't from the ghettos like they used to be.
My mom is on section 8,ss disability.keeps her place spotless.every home prior to her section 8 home she rented has glowing referances from each landlord.had a 100# akita for 13 yrs and the dog has excellent referances also, from each landlord.mom would always make flower beds (with permission) and fill with perineals.bottom line is the homes looked better after she moved.its because she was taught to respect others and their properties
