Great job! I did the same thing to an 80s kitchen years ago before selling it, and it sold the first day because it looked so nice. I might also add that your floor grout probably wasn’t as filthy as you think… Your grout was colored and that color is going to come up when you use cleaners, and stuff like that, so it wasn’t all dirt you were seeing! I also want to add it was a pleasure listening to your makeover, because you hadn’t gone to the “annoying school of Influencers” and you just used your normal speaking voice. That was so refreshing. Most of these videos I end up muting because I just can’t stand these girls and the way they talk today. 🙄
I think your floor turned out fantastic! I have a bone-colored ceramic porcelain (in my country we call it "porcellanato") floor with grout of the same color. To keep them clean, I use (once a year) a steam cleaner with the smallest and hardest brush. It is not a quick or light job; it takes a long time because the ceramics have small irregularities that make them look like natural stone and accumulate dirt (I will never put a textured floor again!). I have to clean the entire surface, not just the grout. Maintenance, the way I get them to last as long as possible in their natural color, is by vacuuming and then mopping with water and Clorex. The whitening effect of Clorex helps a lot so that they do not darken quickly.
Back in 2020, when we all had time to spare, I did this to my floors, I also have those 90's 18 x 18" tiles and the wide dark grout line. After they were clean, painted and dry, I used a product called Quick Shine( home Depot) to mop the entire floor, hoping it will fill, or at least keep all the dirt from the texture on my tiles ( Yes, back then textured tiles were a thing, the rustic the better 😞 ) The Quick Shine product helped some what seal the new painted grout line and gave my naturally dull tiles some shine. Fast forward to 2024 and the paint has not peeled, the high traffic areas would benefit from a re touch but still a 200% improvement from the original dark grout and dull tiles. Your video has motivated me to take my brush again and drop to the floor to paint. Your floors look fantastic! Thank you for the inspiration.
I used peroxide bathroom cleaner. it worked about the best. buy a grout brush that attaches to a broom pole. way easier than sitting on the floor. i have too much arthritis to sit on the floor.
I love this look and have been wondering how to change my grout color. I guess dark brown on white tile was a thing back in the day. I am excited to try this out. Your floor looks amazing! Thank you for all the tips. ❤I will be using my garden pads to help save my knees. 👍
I thought about installing vinyl flooring as well but soon learned it does not increase the value of your home. Only ceramic and hardwood actually add value, so it's best to save or refinish your ceramic flooring unless it's so damaged you have to replace it.
muriatic acid 1:5 solution really works on old white grout that hadn't been cleaned for years needing more than what was suggested in the video. but be sure to use gloves and rinse after scrubbing/soaking 10-15 minutes (or longer if it needed)
They sell a grout brush that you screw onto any mop stick or a painting stick . I got mine on Amazon it's a red brush cost around 20.00 scrubs really well without wearing out grout . No need to get on the floor killing yourself.
Tiles are for entryways/foyers, laundry rooms and bathrms. Anywhere else they are horrid Even in those 1st named rooms, I would put roll of vinyl. No grout lines. Cheap to replace in a decade or so during a room refresh. So easy to put down. Such pretty designs.
@@sassysandie2865 Very light maple and there are a lot of dings in it I asked for hardwood and didn't know the contractor switched to engineered (that's another long story). So the dings, from dropping lots of stuff, went all the way through and now have a black appearance. I've used lots of different products but now am just steam mopping. I've made lots of mistakes.
@@mollyturgess3153 the engineered wood is almost indestructible. The steamer isn’t good for wood. Try a Spin Mop. (Son in law owns a hardwood floor business.)
The people before me installed locking vinyl tiles that look like tile .... and which include fake grout lines. AND THE GROUT LINES ARE RECESSED AND NEED SPECIAL CLEANING TOO! Who thought that was a good idea//
The tile actually looks like that. It isn't dirty. I just watched a video done by a woman who had the same kind of tile and she hated it because it always looked dirty. When it was fashionable, it was designed like that for a rustic look. The woman actually painted the whole floor, tiles and all. She showed what it looked like after 2 and a half years of kids, dogs, and moving furniture - not a scratch! Very impressive.

I used Mapei Grout Refresh 5 years ago and it still looks great. Stained white over dark gray and did two coats. I was amazed at the transformation.
Thanks for sharing! Looks great! Your hard work paid off.
I also saw somebody paint their whole tile floor, wow. So many possibilities.
That was a lot of work, the tile looks so much nicer. I need to try that in my kitchen. Thank you for the ideal .
Thanks for the video, it looks great! I noticed this video was posted 2 years ago, can you comment on how the product is holding up? Thanks!

I was JUST looking at the grout in my children's bathroom and thinking I need to change it! I'm so glad I came across this video!
Good job!

The floor really did turn out very nice! It looks like it was definitely worth the effort!
Great solution to a very common problem.
What a difference! Looks good. But who’s able to get up & down like that? 😂
Excellent solution. I relate with you on hating your tile. I’m going to try this.

what a great result! Thanks for posting!
That's a nice classy look!
This is so informative. So doable. Thank you.
Great for shabby chic. Great job!
Wow, it looks amazing. Thank you so much for sharing. ❤

Mr Clean magic eraser works well scrubbing grout with whichever cleaner you choose. You’ll go through a lot of them though.
Steam cleaning does a perfect
Very nice!

I cant think of vynil ever being described as luxury. Its just a lie by the manufacturer. 😅😅
The best cleaner/degreaser we use in the UK is Sugar Soap 😊
I’m in the U.S though. ☹️
Where in UK u can buy that?
Looks Awesome!!! But looks a little back breaking lol :)

I’ve loved my dark green ceramic tile in my kitchen.
I wish I had tile in my kitchen. The hardwood floor I put in is hard to keep clean and dry, and now is a wreck.
@@mollyturgess3153 really? What color is it? What do you clean it with?

You cleaned the grout but not the tile what's the point try !!! Try a acid cleaner for tile do two jobs in half the time
Can you please suggest an acid cleaner for grout and ceramic tile?

everyone's grout is dirty like that.
“Luxury” and “vinyl” should NEVER be used together. There is absolutely NOTHING luxury about vinyl… 😖
That background music is hideous.
A steam cleaner would have been a lot easier to clean the grout
I liked the tiles better after the grout was cleaned and before any pain was applied to both the grout lines and the accent tiles. Just my opinion.
