I used glass primer and paint to cover salmon pink tiles in a bathroom. Put on several coats of varathane. That did very well, but a floor is a different situation. Now I also did something simular with the tiles around our wood stove. Four years now, with some foot traffic. Holding up well.
Wow, just stumbled on this. My dad has 33 yr old tile and it’s ‘ok’ but I think a coat of new color work be awesome!! We have about 10 chips in the tiles and wondering what to use to fill them? Thanks
@@Kay-pq1uo ... I would use 2-part Bondo, available via Home Depot, Lowe's, most auto parts places in my area, etc. It has a bit of a strong smell, I wear a respirator when I use it to repair furniture I flip but I have sensitivity to such things. I wear a paper mask when I sand it. Bondo is utilized in auto body repairs, it's the most durable product I have found. @@handee_maam Thank you!! I'm so amazed with how well it has held up. 6 months in and its remarkably durable! I recommend 2 coats of each part for extra protection :)
How often do you have to reapply? And can you have to remove these layers to reapply? I'd imagine this is something you have to do every 2 years no? It might end up being more work then you bargained for?.
I am so glad to find you! I live in Austria and nobody could tell me, how to paint the floortiles. My husband was afraid, that I would hurt my hands with this hard work. Now, after seeing your video, he is relaxed and I can start....! Thank you so much! 🤗
Please give us yearly updates as to how the floor holds out. I’ve always been curious about painting tiles but worried about how the paint would last. I have two dogs that live inside & out so wonder about that as well. Your floor looks amazing! Really looks more contemporary. Great job.👏👏👏👏🥰🥰
This video 10000% solidified that I’m painting my floors! We have similar tile in our entire downstairs area… too expensive to be replaced and I’m loving the look of black floors!!!! 😍
As a professional cleaner sorry to tell you black shows EVERYTHING! You may think it hides things but every speck of dust will show and every hair or piece of lint. It will even show if you don't rinse all cleaning product off completely. There really a reason you do not see black floors very often or black carpet. Unless you have a maid coming in daily to dust and wash those floors daily you will regret those floors. 😂😂😂😂
I'm super impressed with this video. Concise without all the "chatter/rambling" that is in most d.y.i. videos made and super quick. Keep up the good work. The floor, baseboards and that little nail gun all looked awesome.
WOW!!! We have the exact same issue in our kitchen. In fact, our tiles are even lighter than yours with white grout (that stays clean for just a few days after I’ve finished cleaning them diligently). We’ve resigned ourselves to just living with the awful floor since getting a new one would be messy and really disruptive. But THIS, what you’ve done is amazing and what we should do as well. Thank you! It is pure serendipity that I even came across your video.
Wonderful! So glad it is helpful for you!! We can actually live with this floor now haha. We love the update! I recommend two coats of each part for a super durable finish. Thats what I did and it hasn't had any problems at all!
I did this on a vinyl floor but I went ahead and roughed up a bit with a pole sander and primed . 2 coats of paint and topcoat since it was in my kitchen high traffic area. It held up really well. It lasted several years until I put hardwood throughout my home
I love that you went with the moderate expense of replacing the old very dated baseboards. It’s a step I’ve done on all 3 homes I’ve renovated. I hate the telltale dating that old baseboards give a house. From dated finishes to over accumulated paint buildups. And by using a wider replacement board you bury that ugly ‘ridge’ that’s left on the wall.
Well you truly learn something everyday, as a tile guy I never thought it would be possible to paint over tile, I'm wondering how long it will last for if the paint will scratch off the tile
Dude I recently bought a house where the previous owners had painted over nice Italian tile with the rustoleum two step process product and the floor looked awful, scratches everywhere.. even we would scratch it up sometimes moving furniture around and what not. Also, the painted floor attracts dirt and hair like a magnet it's been a work in progress slowly removing the paint and sealant one room at a time but we're finally getting there. Definitely stay away
I used concrete paint to cover slate tiles (sacrilege, I know, but they were SO dark!). They were in the only bathroom in a country house, so they had plenty of rough traffic. We sold the house three years later, and there wasn’t a chip or scratch anywhere.
Every time I step into our master bath I gag at the outdated flooring in there... big white tiles with small forest green tiles here and there. We're in our 70's so MAYBE we could tackle this. Love your video and thank you.
You can totally do it! I recommend doing a couple coats of each part. I'm very impressed with the durability so far. Thanks for the comment and for watching :)
I have been watching your channel for quite a few months now, and I am extremely excited to see how far you have come. I wish you nothing but the best!
OMG! WOW! Your floor looks absolutely stunning! I am so glad I stumbled upon this video. I have been wanting to do exactly the same and the same colour to my floors since before I moved into my new home but I’ve been too intimidated by peoples comments about my choice of colour, which has left me indecisive and second guessing my choice of colour. However, after seeing your finish product I have been left speechless by just how beautiful it looks! I knew deep down inside of me that painting my floor black would look striking against my brilliant whites walls and bold feature wall colours (poppy red, colbolt blue and merlot burgundy), together with my oak furniture! I can’t thank you enough for doing this video, it really does means a lot to me! I have also subscribed to your channel as you obviously have great taste and I can’t wait to see more of your makeovers! 🥰🥰
I say pay no attention to what other people say and go with the color that makes you happy! We think our floors are wonderful this color :) Thank you so much and welcome!
My concern: 1. What happens to grout lines? 2. How long/durable is this? I can’t imagine sliding a wood chair over it or coming into the entrance with small gravel in the runners.
Wow, amazing. What a transformation. I’ve been wanting to do the same for years but was worried it wouldn’t last or look good. You’ve convinced me, I now have my job for the weekend. Thankyou for the video. 👍🏻
To ‘bring things together’- paint the fireplace mantel. Don’t paint the fireplace stones, just the shelf. Using your tile paint and sealer, a black mantel would make the floor and fireplace seem ‘on purpose’. So the floor doesn’t appear like an ‘afterthought’.
I agree about the mantel but I would rough brush a lighter coat of white (ish) paint on the top have off the fireplace. The stones don’t match in style or color but I like the bottoms stones more than the upper stones
So glad to have found your video. I have similar stone tiles and am fed up with cleaning. I was thinking of replacing them with vinyl. Looks like this can save a lot of money. Thank you!

That is awesome! I too would like to see how the floors hold up. I have pets and move my furniture often so I need to know if the floors will scratch etc.

I saw your video on tiktok and decided to see the entire process. I absolutely love this and will definitely give it a try. However how long do you think the paint will last on the floors?
Thank you for watching! I think if done right, it should last awhile. I recommend following the instructions fully (as far as dry time, etc.). I also recommend doing two coats of the paint. When applying it, roll two different directions to make sure it fills all the cracks & seams. Then, apply at least two coats of the top coat for extra protection. With that, it should last awhile. We’ve only had ours a month and so far I’m impressed with the durability 😄

Hi I am going to try this on my bathroom floor. The tile grout has come up in places....do I need to re-grout prior to applying this system? thanks for your video ...your floor looks great. MM
Hi Maryanne, if you can, fixing the grout is always a good idea. However, I'm not sure it's 100% necessary as far as the paint itself goes. The paint will be fine either way. The top coat however might pool in that deep crevice area and can dry white instead of clear when that happens. Just be aware of that spot when you apply the top coat if you do not fill the grout. Thank you for the kind words and for watching!
In lieu of grout maybe consider Bondo. Available via Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe's, auto parts stores, etc. I had a rental property that had over half of a tile missing. I used Bondo to fill the void, allowed it to completely dry, sanded it smooth and used 220 grit sandpaper to polish it a bit. Painted everything the same bright white (2 coats), sealed it (3 coats), it looked like a new floor. I sold the property to great tenants - they loved the bright white bathroom. Just change towels and decor and it's fresh and new - in a 70yr old house. This was on the 1970s, I don't think this technique was available back then. I utilized Marine paint.
You are so awesome and so brave! Most of our downstairs is tile that I hate! How is the paint holding up to furniture drags, foot traffic and doggie nails?
We're about 5 months in and so far I'm really impressed! It's holding up so well. I was worried about dining chair drags but so far no problem. I was also worried about dog nails but no problems there either! As well as general foot traffic. I'd recommend doing two coats of the paint and at least two coats of the top protecting clear coat. And if I do get a scratch, I imagine I can touch it up. Thanks!
Thank you! I get asked about that shelf a lot. I built it years ago before I was making videos. It's a very simple build of 3 long boards (back board, bottom and front short board) glued and screwed together. I attached it to the wall by screwing the shelf into the studs. Thanks for watching!

Would this work for cement basement floors? Would it make it more/less slippery?
This is a good idea for bathrooms , thanks
Absolutely. Thanks for watching!
Not sure how dark the black is in real life, but on the video it looks like a very dark Slate type of tile now… I love it ❤
Yes! Thank you :)
This is beautiful!😊
Thank you! 😊
wow - I don't know if we have this sort of paint in Australia -I will have to research it
Man! That looks great!
Thank you!
Thanks for this! Will be using for tile in front of a fireplace
Great! Thanks!
How long to wait between Krudd Kutter and painting?
Looks amazing!!! How is it holding up??
Thanks! 6 months in and it’s holding up incredibly well. We’re super happy with the project
You did a amazing job
Thank you so much!
@@MakerGray welcome
Great job 👍
Thank you!
Any ideas for handling some of my cracked ceramic tiles with this product or a companion product?
Very nice. You are amazing, have inspired me. Thank you.
Thank you so much! I appreciate you
If you have grout missing before you paint what should you do
Is there a separate video for the new baseboards?
You are so awesome and so brave! Most of our downstairs is tile that I hate! How is the paint holding up to furniture drags, foot traffic and doggie nails?
We're about 5 months in and so far I'm really impressed! It's holding up so well. I was worried about dining chair drags but so far no problem. I was also worried about dog nails but no problems there either! As well as general foot traffic. I'd recommend doing two coats of the paint and at least two coats of the top protecting clear coat. And if I do get a scratch, I imagine I can touch it up. Thanks!
Amazing job. Thanks for sharing. Quick question. where did you get the wooden shelve above the coach and how did you install it?
Thank you! I get asked about that shelf a lot. I built it years ago before I was making videos. It's a very simple build of 3 long boards (back board, bottom and front short board) glued and screwed together. I attached it to the wall by screwing the shelf into the studs. Thanks for watching!
Wow just what I was looking for! Thank hou
How many cans of the black paint did you have to use to cover all of that floor
Looks fantastic. Any chance of an update please? How are things looking 2 years later? Any remedial work required?
I've got the update video for you here! th-cam.com/video/1Uz-zlZL7RU/w-d-xo.html
