Jordan Peterson Gets Joe Rogan TO ADMIT Christian Truth

  • Jordan Peterson sat down for another conversation with Joe Rogan and at one point Peterson explains the cross and Christs crucifixion in a way that Joe Rogan admits he's never heard it taught like this before... and I agree with Joe.
I grew up being taught religion and I don't think I've ever missed a Sunday mass, but was never taught or thought about what it means at the level that Peterson offers here. Rogan says here that most Christians probably don't think about the cross this way, they only think that Jesus died for us and we're saved and that's it...
I'm not saying that isn't true, but it's a shallow perspective and it’s shallow language that right now falls on dead ears and isn't winning anyone over. Depth, mystery, and meaning wins over, it's what we're all desperate for in this day and age, and there is nothing deeper than what Peterson explains here

I'm part of the Catholic church and with in that the Neo Cathecumal Way. We walk in a Christian community, in the way the early church was set up. I was brought up in this community and then left as I grew up. I then realised the importance of these teachings, of carrying your cross, accepting the reality the lord has given us, we have it all and it is perfect, our sin corrupts our reality. Anyway I'm the biggest sinner so please pray for me in my journey toward true faith

@@dannypower2399 Thank you for sharing. I totally agree in regards to carrying our cross. We suffer in the realities of this life, praise the Lord Jesus that our abilities to carry dont save us due to what you said, we are all the chief of sinners. My friend, 'true faith" is believing on what Christ has done for you, and that alone. Putting our faith on him is to believe on what he has accomplished for us not our ability to ‘act out” righteousness. Are we called to be righteous, most certainly. Might I ask you a question? How do you know that you are saved? Or what either now in you walk or in the past created doubt? Is it or was it your ability or success in your walk, “acting out” While I could be wrong after many years, I came to the conclusion that If im doing that Im relying in part on my own righteousness which I don’t believe is the gospel. I think and believe our salvation is solely based on the imputed righteousness of Christ. If it is, then my ‘acting it out” is not an indicator of my standing in Christ. “ If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of [c]God which He has testified of His Son. 10 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. 11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has [d]life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, [e]and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.” By the way, the conversation has been good.

Um - read any sort of Christian mysticism and you’ll get this, guys. It’s all part of being and LIVING as a follower of Christ. You go to your cross in your own life in imitation of him. It’s very basic Christianity for anyone who has gotten past a child’s level of faith. Christianity is very, very deep to say the least. At least from a Catholic perspective. Can’t speak for pastor Bob’s church or whatever. But Catholic Christianity is the most profound thing in this world to live out. It’s just many people have not seriously investigated it.

What Christ endured to save mankind, now and forever, is ineffable. To think that He wanted us to be with Him again so greatly, that he endured the worst pain, psychological torture, humiliation, and so on crushes the soul almost completely. Christianity is not about religion, it’s about the relationship we have with the Christ Jesus. It’s amazing to think that as we grow closer to Jesus and understand the meaning of His sacrifice, it stops being just profound for us but becomes divine. Amen.

@@iLovettGolf show me any logical way Christianity started without the resurrection, why so many people died claiming to see Christ risen. Why Christ is still to this day the best example the world has ever seen and for 2000 years everyone has failed to even live up to 10% of his teachings and character. Why every historian agrees that something definitely happened with Jesus around that time to start the boom in Christianity. The shroud of Turin is another great addition (you don’t have to accept that but again no logical explanation for it without the resurrection). It is impossible for Christianity to start without the resurrection of the Lord. Paul says it best “if Christ didn’t resurrect, our faith is meaningless”. Btw Paul is another great piece of evidence towards Christ being the truth. Logically explain to me why a man who persecuted, murdered and hated Christians, in the space of a day would become fully devout and willingly go to his own death for Jesus. Logically Jesus not being the way, the truth and the life means Christianity never begins. Jesus is the centre of our existence, he changed the world with his words, love and sacrifice on the cross. I can’t think of any other person who has had as much as an impact on the world even with their money and power. Another little thing, without Jesus women would have never been able to be equal to a man. The morality we have today is moulded by Jesus and we have twisted it for our own needs and wants. Now I don’t know if that will do anything for you but hopefully it makes you think a bit. God bless my friend

The Christian world view does not advise dictatorships. That’s not to say no Christian has ever been a dictator though. But that person would be going against the tenets of the world view. So I’m proposing that the Christian world view contains the precept of sacrifice. I’m not proposing every Christian person perfectly embodies the precept. It’s the difference between a worldview and a practitioner. I find that same dichotomy in every worldview in fact. I would also suggest if you should fear a worldview, fear one that doesn’t teach the precept of tolerance.

... Getting all the way to eternal life will cost you everything!...
If you want to live forever you should follow Jesus advice and "count the cost"
      Before you begin...
Jesus also said (among many, many other things)
"If any man puts his hand to the plow, and then turns away, he is not worthy of the Kingdom of God"
      (That's a change in " status" 😎)
But the "Lord's Mercy endures forever".... If we turn again...
      He will forgive! 🙏

It was Constantine who was actually the founder of Christianity. He was the decisive factor in the Council of Nicea. It was under his pressure - because he was the emperor of Rome - that the priests voted for the divine personality of Jesus. He made Jesus a divine person. It was his creation, his invention.
He also changed Jesus’ birthday from January sixth to December twenty-fifth, the day of the solar rebirth. The twenty-fifth of December, which is celebrated all over the world, is not Jesus’ birthday. The whole idea of Christmas is bogus.
Jesus was born on January sixth, but under Constantine’s influence and power, it was changed to December twenty-fifth, the day of the solar rebirth. It is thought by the sun worshippers that the sun was born on the twenty-fifth of December. The whole of Christianity is living in utter darkness. Their Christmas is bogus - and the church knows it perfectly well but won’t allow people to know about it

I'll arrive at the same conclusion as Peterson here, but taking a different path.
Imagine your father sacrifices his 30 years of life work and savings to give you a house. That's great fatherly love. But, you trash the house, chose to live in homeless shelters instead, do all sorts of drugs, destroy its windows, all out of blind and irrational disdain and disrespect for your father. Your father has every right to take the house away, calling the police for trespassing, but he never does.
What message is your father trying to send you? Well, that he loves you unimaginably, and wants from you a full participation in that love, infinitely more valuable than the house. This love is given to you despite your gross disrespect. After what you've done, you cannot ever match this love, but it is right to fulfill your father's wishes as best as you can manage. So, you should repair the windows, go to rehab, live in the house, and work for the money to fix it.
This imitates your father's grace, in a sense, but the central message is the grace rather than the imitation. Does that look different, in an actionable sense, from making the imitation central? Maybe not, so maybe it's the same conclusion Jordan draws here.
This is what I take the classical Protestant approach to be.

This is all true...but at its source is Christ dying for YOUR sins PERSONALLY.
The overarching themes and archetypes of the story are great and moving, but the ability to walk this path only comes from YOUR response to Christ's love illustrated by the gospel.
The distinction is this: that you aren't moved to change your life because Christ died for the whole world's sins (which He most definitely did), but because he died for YOUR sins, winning you a place in heaven and saving you from hell. His death for YOUR PERSONAL sins. That's salvation, that's His message.

Salvation has been watered down by most churches today who love to teach of it as a free gift just because you "believe", but have lost touch with what "BELIEF" really means - to trust in, commit to, entrust life with. It's the act of making God our LORD. That's why Jesus said we "must lose our life to find it", and "deny ourselves, pick up our cross and follow after Him". Even Jesus had to be doing the Father's will in order to do what He did (john 5:19).
And you may argue, "how can it be a free gift if it costs us our life?" Because when we lose our life we actually find it (what He's created us to do).

True, but every time I have ever had a conversation with a Protestant they insist that all you have to do is accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and you need to do nothing more. First of all accepting Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior to be "saved" is not mentioned in the Bible. The Bible says we are saved through water and the spirit. Secondly, even if you somehow extrapolate that from Biblical text it is the shallowest form of faith.

@@robertgasper2495 Hi Robert. I’m sorry u haven’t found your experience talking to Protestants fruitful. There are 2.3billion Christians in the world and within that there are many perspectives; varying degrees of intelligence, and so forth. It took me a while, but I learned a hard lesson about the pitfalls of stereotyping Christians-though I’m glad I learned it. Christ made the choice for salvation to be that accessible because we ourselves have repeatedly fallen short of the requirements to render our own salvation. And yes, it really is as simple as believing (however challenging you may find that to be). John 8:24 “That is why I said that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I Am who I claim to be, you will die in your sins.”
Sanctification-doing the things that bring us closer to God-that’s where the challenge comes in. A lot of people make the mistake of conflating salvation with sanctification. The truth is, Christ did do the work for us when it comes to our salvation. But if you truly believe, it would show in your heart. And you would behave in such a way that mitigates your taking His sacrifice for granted as much as possible. You would find yourself in a constant state of gratitude as motivated by His sacrifice, or at least make that the goal in a world that persists in pulling you the other way-this is the part JP is talking about-not paying lip service to the idea of believing, but knowing what it actually entails and surrendering to it completely.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life".

Christ’s bloody sacrifice on Calvary took place once, and it will never be repeated. To repeat his sacrifice would be to imply that the original offering was defective or insufficient, like the animal sacrifices of the Old Testament that could never take away sins. Jesus’ offering was perfect, efficacious, and eternal. We in the Catholic Church know this.
However, one must consider its eternal aspect. Jesus is eternally a priest, and a priest’s very nature is to offer sacrifice. In the case of Christ, the eternal sacrifice that he offers is himself. This is why he appears in the book of Revelation as a lamb, standing as though he had been slain (Rev. 5:6). He appears in heaven in the state of a victim not because he still needs to suffer but because for all eternity he re-presents himself to God appealing to the work of the cross, interceding for us (Rom 8:34), and bringing the graces of Calvary to us
It’s a common mistake to equate sacrifice with death. To understand the sacrifice of the Mass, it is essential that one understand the biblical picture of a sacrifice: It is always a gift; it is not always a killing. This is why Scripture can speak of a sacrifice of praise (Hos. 4:12) and the sacrifice of thanksgiving (Ps. 50:14). Besides offering lambs, the Israelites also made grain offerings, drink offerings, et cetera. One sacrifice was called the wave offering, and this was an unbloody sacrifice where the J would wave a gift before God to symbolically give it to him. In Numbers 8:9-15, the whole Hebrew tribe of Levi was presented to God as a wave offering. In a similar way, the Mass is an offering-a sacrifice-where Christ is presented before the Father.
    THE FOURTH CUP
One must understand what Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ meant when He said, “It is finished”? (John 19:30). In order to understand what Our Lord and Savior meant, you must understand the Passover liturgy.
Passover was a covenant formed a sacred flesh and blood bond between Yahweh and Israel, making them one family. This family bond was expressed in relational terms of father and son (Ex. 4:22; Deut. 1:31; 8:5; 14:1) as well as husband and wife (Jer. 31:32; Ezek. 16:8; Hos. 2:18-20). Liturgical feasts and rituals were to signify and strengthen the family communion that existed by covenant between Yahweh and Israel.
Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ used the word “covenant” on only one occasion, and that was when He instituted the Holy Eucharist during the Passover celebration. “And He took a cup, and when He had given thanks (the Greek word for blessing “eucharistesas” was used) He gave it to them, and they all drank of it. And He said to them, ‘This is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many'” (Mark 14:23-24). Jesus Christ Our Lord and Savior was the Firstborn Son and Lamb of God, there was a connection between Passover and the self-sacrifice by which the new covenant was to be established. The cup blessed and distributed by Our Lord and Savior was the third cup in the Passover Haggadah because the Apostles sang “Great Hallel” (Mark 14:26), and St. Paul’s mention of “the cup of blessing” - the third cup (1 Cor. 10:16).
The Passover meal was divided into four parts. First, the preliminary course consisted of a festival blessing (kiddush) spoken over the first cup of wine, followed by the serving of a dish of herbs. The second course included a recital of the Passover narrative and the “Little Hallel” (Psalm 113), followed by the drinking of the second cup of wine. The third course was the main meal, consisting of lamb and unleavened bread, after which was drunk the third cup of wine, known as the “cup of blessing.” The Passover climaxed with the singing of the “Great Hallel” (Psalms 114-118) and the drinking of the fourth cup of wine.
Instead of drinking of the fourth cup, we read: “And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives” (Mark 14:26). Not only is the omission conspicuous, it appears to be underscored by the words of Jesus in the preceding verse: “Truly, I say to you, I shall not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the Kingdom of God” (Mark 14:25). Moreover, you have Jesus’ prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but thou wilt'” (Matt. 26:39). Three times altogether Jesus prayed for His Father to take away “this cup.” John links Jesus’ “hour of glory” with the supreme manifestation of his love upon the cross (John 3:14, 7:37-39, 8:28, 13:31).
Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Our King, Priest, and paschal victim, was in His hour of glory while suffering on the cross, made a profound gesture: “After this Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said “I thirst.” Jesus Christ Our Lord and Savior was thirsty long before this closing moment of his life. “A bowl of sour wine stood there; so they put a sponge full of the vinegar on hyssop and held it to his mouth” (19:29). Only John noticed that hyssop was used, the branch prescribed in the Passover law for sprinkling the blood of the lamb (Ex.12:22). This verse reveals something significant. Jesus had left unfinished the Passover liturgy in the upper room by not drinking the fourth cup. He stated his intention not to drink wine again until he came into the glory of his Kingdom. As we have seen, he refused some on one occasion, right before being nailed to the cross (Mark 15:23). Then, at the very end, Jesus was offered “sour wine” (John 19:30; Matt.27:48; Mark 15:36; Luke 23:36). But only John tells us how he responded: “When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, ‘It is finished’; and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit” (19:30). It was the Passover that was now finished. More precisely, it was Jesus’ transformation of the Passover sacrifice of the Old Covenant into the Eucharistic sacrifice of the New Covenant. Calvary begins with the Eucharist and the Eucharist ends with Calvary. It is all of one piece.
    THE HOLY SACRIFICE AND CONSECRATION
As noted above, the Holy Eucharist is the new covenant and prefigured in Exodus, in the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fish. The Holy Eucharist is reflected again Emmaus when Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ “took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it” to the disciples (Luke 24: 30-31).
The priest is in persona Christi and prays the Offertory prayers as a preparation for the Eucharistic Prayer and during consecration. The priest is in persona Christi because he will speak the words of Our Lord Himself at the Consecration of the offerings. The priest has to be the self-sacrificing image of Christ the High Priest. In the Tradeonai Latin Mass, ass of the Ages) which is the Mass I attend, the priest faces the Altar. He offers the sacrifice facing God or coram Deo. The priest, a mere mortal man, is not consecrating the sacrifice, but Christ Himself, who is taking claim of the sacrifice of the Mass.
Pope Pius XII wrote, “The august sacrifice of the altar, then, is no mere empty commemoration of the passion and death of Jesus Christ, but a true and proper act of sacrifice, whereby the High Priest by an unbloody immolation offers Himself a most acceptable victim to the Eternal Father, as He did upon the cross. ‘It is one and the same victim; the same person now offers it by the ministry of His priests, who then offered Himself on the cross, the manner of offering alone being different.’ The priest is the same, Jesus Christ, whose sacred Person His minister represents. Now the minister, by reason of the sacerdotal consecration which he has received, is made like to the High Priest and possesses the power of performing actions in virtue of Christ's very person.”
Consecration at Mass refers to the central moment when the bread and wine, by the words of Christ spoken by the priest and the invocation of the Holy Spirit, become the Body and Blood of Christ. The Eucharistic presence of Christ begins at the moment of the consecration. The priest in person Christi commands the bread and wine to transubstante into the Body and Blood of Christ. The Church has celebrated this Sacrament from the beginning, as recounted in Scripture: "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and the prayers" (Acts 2:42). This practice was the response to the desire of Jesus Christ himself during the Last Supper: "Do this in remembrance of me" (Lk 22:19; 1 Cor 11:24-25). With these words Jesus asks his disciples to accept the gift of his sacramental presence and to repeat it "until I come again" (cf. 1 Cor 11:26). The Sacrament of the Eucharist is not a simple reminder of an event that happened in history. It is the "fulfillment" of the "memorial of Christ, of his life, of his death, of his Resurrection, and of his intercession in the presence of the Father" (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1341) through the liturgical celebration.
Therefore, through the power of the Holy Spirit and the words of Christ, in the consecration "Christ is thus really and mysteriously made present" (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1357) among people so that they may be in communion with Him. We are blessed to receive Our Lord - even the angels cannot do this.

If we are being completely honest, he (Jesus) can have all the miracles that he was said to perform and it still doesn't prove that what he said was true and it doesn't prove that he was of divine pedigree.
He was born of a virgin? Are we sure we are using the most accurate of translations? I don't think so, but let's say we are. Let's say that it can somehow be proven that he was born without any l male intervention/assistance, somehow. As Christopher Hitchens points out, parthenogenesis is not entirely unthinkable. I would also add that Genghis Khan was said to be born of a virgin and yet, no one venerates him as of divine origin, or at least not anymore.
      Also from Christopher Hitchens.
Jesus died and rose again. Ok.
Lazarus was raised from the dead.
The daughter of Jairus was raised from the dead. Did she say anything about what she had been through?
At the time of the crucifixion upon Jesus' death, all the graves opened up and their inhabitants greeted their loved ones. How many of them claimed to be divine?
If presented as historical events, it really shouldn't be surprising for those of the faithful to at least understand why it's difficult for the nonfaithful to digest this. If we are being honest with each other, and ourselves.
As metaphors tho, I will admit, there are some really good ones, but who other than Jordan Peterson presents them in such a way. No pastor I have ever met.
The story of Cain and Abel being on of my favorites. A metaphor about how claiming everyone and everything, even God, for your shortcomings probably isn't the best FIRST option you should take. Especially if you honestly ask yourself if you are making the appropriate sacrifices.

The idea that Christ died for our sins is one of the biggest deceptions of Christianity. Jesus was a man who's purpose was to demonstrate what all humans are capable of because we all have God within us. Jesus allowed himself to be killed in the way he did because he knew it would serve the goal of establishing a legend and a guide (the bible) that would endure for centuries afterwards to preserve his messages and his example. Sin is a flawed concept (one that doesn't sync with the idea of an all-loving God) and I'm tired of hardcore Christians repeating the phrase "Jesus died for our sins".

    • @Ennio1948
      @Ennio1948 หลายเดือนก่อน

The guide to preserve His message for centuries says He died for our sins. That's what we have that goes back by far the closest to Him in time. Saying He died for our sins doesn't exhaust His purposes in coming, but to deny that is to stray from the writings of those who knew Him and to create something else. You may say He didn't die for sin, but the earliest writers about Him disagree.

Mythology it's not necessarily fiction. It's the body of stories around which we build our lives. We consider ancient mythology to be untrue but still illustrative. But the mythology of Christ, as with the mythology of the American founding fathers, is foundational referential and true.

This is the foundation of why I am a Christian. The prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane metaphorically explains this & understanding the Trinity is needed. Christs faith in the Father as the Father allowed him to relate and forebear the worse death known to mankind to branch and allow all of mankind access to the Father. Christs casts down His Spirit the same as God cast himself down on Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane, so we can overcome the struggles and ways of the world to our ultimate fate, death, to a place of no more sorrow & no more pain. Christs death and resurrection is a representation of being born again & crushing the tortures of sin and the fall of man. Life is an adventure of redemption to righteousness, becoming Christ like, and representing Christ knowing we will fail everyday. This walk with Christ builds and when death approaches at your door, there will be no fear. Ask Christs disciples. With the Holy Spirit, through Christ, to the Father.

JP is genius, just today I overcame some big struggles and fears in my life and I see what he means about coming through it stronger and with a sense that it seemed like the spirit of God is with you to help you through it, at least my spirits were elevated so much that I felt like a spirit was present in me, it could be a combination of phsychological and biological sensations, but attributing it to the spirit of god gives it a brighter and lasting light, and something that helps give us pure ethics and units people, all good things.

6:03 JP saying "as your courage grows, a spirit begins to develop within that gives you a strength that's commensurate with your daring," I notice that this works especially if your daring is opposite to voluntarily taking on the worst that life has to offer. For example, the Book of Romans we see 1:26 "Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts." If one chooses to disobey God's laws and reject God out of sinful desire, that spirit doesn't leave, but commensurates with that lack of faith also. This is why JP says that this explanation makes sense psychologically, because it works both ways. This was profound to hear as a new 23 year old Christian for 3 months. Edit*: Thank you for the upload!

Consider now the cross we face,
A symbol of the deepest grace.
It’s not just Christ who died for sin,
But what that act demands within.
    Sacrifice is at the core,
Of all that keeps our spirits more.
In marriage, vows that bind so tight,
Are built on giving up the night.
For every whim we set aside,
    The future's path is clarified.
The cross, it stands to show the way,
    That sacrifice builds every day.
Imagine now, the worst of strife,
A tale that mirrors human life.
The best of men, unjustly killed,
By those whose hearts were cruelly filled.
Yet in that pain, a truth we see,
To bear the worst is to be free.
Christ harrowed hell, faced death, and fear,
To show us all what’s truly clear.
The call to us, so deeply placed,
Is to confront what must be faced.
To bear the weight that life bestows,
And in that burden, courage grows.
The message here, so stark and true,
Is that in suffering, strength is due.
For as you take on life’s cruel hand,
You build a soul that dares to stand.
So do not hide, nor turn away,
But face the dark, confront the day.
In every cross, a lesson learned,
In every trial, a spirit earned.
For in that walk, with head held high,
You find the strength that will not die.
The path of Christ is yours to tread,
    Through sacrifice, you're truly led.

Your forgetting a very important part. The word "Gospel" means "good news". What is the good news? The shortest answer. Is he has risen. He proved his eternal existence. The full context is that he was a virgin birth lived a sinless life, died because of our sin, and rose again. Christianity wouldn't exist if it wasn't true. we also see the truth of what Peterson is trying to explain. Is which the point of perfect love was lived on earth and is still here today. So the ability to not love showed prevalent since man existed. So it would always be necessary that God intercede to teach us perfect love of heavens standard. So not only does Jesus teach a philosophy of life, but he is real and interact with us, and that's personally my favorite part.
