You liked the bass. You liked the drums. You liked the deep lyrics. You liked the build up. You liked this sound. Bro, you have no idea what's coming.
I second that 🔥😆
Facts 🤘🏻🌀
Can’t wait man. This is so cool
@@nickforell1welcome to your new favourite band 😅🤘
You must spiral-in before you can spiral-out.
They didn’t create just one album that was unmatched, that’s pretty much their whole catalog.
Gotcha, yeah I was totally incorrect
@@nickforell1 Tool Army will invade your channel if you make it a regular occasion lol. I’d recommend starting with their early stuff and working up.
@@nhilge78 Here...
Seriously! I find it hilarious how many reactors flip out over Tool fans invading their channel. We show UP. For sure! I can’t help it… it’s oddly amazing to watch someone here Tool songs for the first time. I always lmao when people commonly say stuff like “OMG! I feel like I’ve wasted my life by only now hearing this music”. 😆
There truly is NONE better. Across any genre. Tool is the most perfect and complete package.
@@FirstLast-iw2jz I can totally see the logic in this and agree
"Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to Heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here."
That line always gives me chills.
Yeah, what a line!
One of the best lyrical lines ever written. Period. End of story.
@@earthscorchert's phenomenal. Thing is, he's got so many beautifully crafted and profound lines and phrases, I don't think I could ever choose one as the best.
I mean, we're talking about a singer with a line like "What became of subtlety?" I mean, who does that, aside from MJK? 😅😉
Same here. In a complete library of mind-blowing lyrics, some stand out even from excellence and approach magnus opus status
One of my favorite lyrics of all time.
I'm a 65 year old grandmother that just loves Tool. The lyrics are always profound and Danny's drumming is my all time favorite. I just LOOOVE these guys, as does my Son, we go to their concerts together.
This is such an amazing comment! I love that you and your son share the passion for the best band on the planet. Spiral out! 🌀
@Irwiersum 🤘 60 year-old TooL (insufferable fan) mom here too! Took my oldest daughter to 2 shows last year. Trecking to the NE to see TooL in November with BOTH my girls ❤

This is the best thing ever! Good on ya
Here for TOOL 🔧 Greatest band ever! They do not have a bad song. 👁🌀
Phenomenal news. So happy to have found them
I auto skip ‘Chocolate Chip Trip’ off Fear Inoculum because I think it’s trash but besides that I have yet to find a Tool song I don’t like. 🌀
Yes they do. Just about every "fill" song like 'Die Eir Von Satan' and a few others. But other than that, Welcome to ear candy. At 56, Tool is the only band I have every album on everything I can play it on. Yes I do have a big library of various artists and genres, but Tool cannot be denied as the best.
@svrwthr those aren't "songs". They are interludes. 🤷🏻
@LanceThompsonKssooner interludes are spaces in a song between lyrics. Not a separate composition on its own. You can call it what you will, an interlude, an intro, an outro, but they are still songs because they have their own separation between songs, and name.
Great reaction vid. 30 years of music, 5 full length albums, one ep and not a single bad song. You're in for a wild ride. Spiral out 🌀🌀🌀👁🤘🏼
Well said! Can’t wait 😛
@thistheyear99 Don't forget Salival!! What they did, and still do, live is amazing!! It would be cool if he would do a reaction video to Pushit and do the Ænima version first and then the Salival version.
@@albetudo9313 Omg he's gonna totally trip when he hears both those Pushit versions. Fav TOOL track all time, Another dimension.

Three Aliens and an Octopus walk onto the stage....and then there was TOOL.
Haha 😆
Be ready for your channel to get a lot busier! Us Tool fans are no joke!! Please keep reviewing them!
Definitely will Brandy. Grateful for the support!
Thank you for reacting Nick. Get ready for dozens of Tool requests now.
Also, the drummer Danny Carey, is the best living drummer in my personal opinion.
Great reaction sir!
Thank YOU Taylor. Cannot wait to do more Tool. I was very impressed
Danny Carey is a literal cryptid. I don't know how he even can do what he does.
Definitely will say that the drummer for Sleep Token is a pretty close second for me at this point. He's half Danny's age and I can't wait to see how he grows over the next several years!
Danny Carey is definitely on the Mt Rushmore of drummers!
The man can play a 7/8 with one hand, a 15/16 with the other and a 3/4 with his feet and he looks like he’s just happily having his morning coffee. Danny is superhuman.
@@ArjanKop his limb independence is incredible. It's like each arm, hand, leg, and foot all have their own brain. Danny inspired me to learn how to play drums.
Yeah, Danny's use of the Tabla drums in that solo is extraordinary.
Really really impressed
Somewhere on here, there's a video of him in his drumkit during a live set of this song, and it's mighty impressive to see the way he runs it all.
@@jessthemullet I need to find that. Honestly the first time I heard Tool I was convinced they had two drummers. Then I watched in amazement when it was just Danny. Dude is an octopus wizard. haha
Tool is a unicorn. Enjoy the ride.
Yep, gonna follow that unicorn
Tool Army unite!
🌀❤️
I am excited to add another reaction chan hearing tool for the first time to my list!
❤️🌀
Edit: I just want to say you’re really going to enjoy your new favourite band,Tool.
You seem extremely smart & I think you are going to enjoy Tool’s work & the genius behind them.
I found tool in ‘93 @ 13 yrs old (43 now) & have been along for the ride ever since.
Welcome to the family!
Spiral out…🌀🌀🌀
Thank you so much Trish. What a nice comment. I appreciate your insight!
Same here! I found Tool around '93, as well. Been a fan ever since!
That’s awesome!
👊🏻🌀
That buildup really is one of the best around. I mean a tabla solo in 11/8 that grooves super hard and then seamlessly goes back in the full band... Just so good
So satisfying!
The level of trust this band has in each other is as next level as everything else is about this band.
And the live show is legendary
Calling out the time signature. 👍🏻
The rabbit hole has just been opened. All the percussion noises are one drummer doing it all they call the Octopus. Even the little noises you mentioned at the beginning are him. Expect weird time signatures on a lot of songs but he's a genius.
Completely awesome!
Danny can make odd time not feel odd. He’s a dang wizard.
Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability
To lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here
What a line
Maynard is a god dam poet and I love every poem!! Tool forever!
Ive seen them live 28 times... they never... NEVER disappoint!! Each one of them are masters of their craft and it really shows in their live performances. Dig deep and enjoy in a hundred years people will still be listening to Tool
28 FUCKING TIMES????!!!!
I AM SO JEALOUS
@jacimcdonald2780 lol... yeah, living here in Arizona helps , they always play here or somewhere close
ticket price disapoints!
@NiamorH I'm seeing them next month and I got two tickets for 200 bucks ... 80 of which is because of ticket masters fees... so not that bad
@@shaunpfaff4574 unfortunately for the concert close to where I am in june a single ticket sells at 200€ for a decent place in front of the stage and 100€ for the farthest & at the sides :(
Start at the beginning. They go through a journey, and their songs are journeys individually. Welcome to the Tool rabbit hole!
Thank you Joe! I appreciate the guidance
@@nickforell1he’s right. If you start with Undertow, you will see so much strength and creative integrity every step they move forward.
@@nickforell1 I second this! Start from the beginning, go through the albums in order and you'll hear how they have evolved during these 30 years. And the last song should be the 30th anniversary re-release of the song Opiate. :)
I've seen one TH-camr go through this path "live" and it was amazing. And you do not have to wait 13 years between 10.000 days and Fear Inoculum. xD
@@EiriUesugiKun Me too! Love seeing the moment people have the Tool epiphany.
Their arc has been incredible. From the angry eff the world says, to spiritual in a way that most can't comprehend... So interesting.
Nevertheless, the lyrics always stop you in your track and make you realize there are finally words to something you may have already felt but never really thought to put into words.
10000 Days is the most underrated album. So much to love about it.
Right In Two was my fave for a long time. Audio visualization of evolution for me. If you like “builds” you’re in the right place. “46 & 2” next. It’s got one of their more infamous breakdowns.
Can not say this enough-Do not watch music “video” videos. They’re a different, distracting, even disturbing experience on a first reaction. Enjoy!
I’ll +1 any suggestions. As you say in the intro, they take their damn time with songs. 6ish albums over 30+ years is insane when you think about it. Regular bands can’t do this. At least at Tool level.
The unbridled resolve demonstrated in your expression at 14:57 perfectly encapsulates how I feel about this song as well as the vast majority of their masterful collection. Thank you for sharing your reaction. Cheers!
I wish i could hear this for the first time again.
Yes, this!!!
Welcome to one of the most satisfying rabbit holes you can find.
Indeed!
ALL of Tool's discography is this good, if not better.
Can’t wait
Every Tool song is better than every other Took song. 😊
TOOL's discography is good and better than itself. Schroëdenher's TOOL!
The 11/8 time signature is one of my favorite aspects of this track. And the way they divided it into 3,3,3,2 instead of 4,4,3. It ends up having that 3/4 waltz feel and then all of a sudden one beat is missing before it starts over. But, if you listen to Tool a lot, they break most of there time signatures down into divisions of 3 beats and 2 beats.
Thank you Ian. Pretty damn cool
And of course the "right in two" comes on the 2 beat pattern into the downbeat of the next measure as well.
"Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven conscious of its fleeting time here" That line didn't appear to me until a few years ago even though I had listened to this song hundreds of times. It got me back in Church. My faith has grown exponentially, and I am at more peace than ever. Maynard was raised in a Christian family. He reflects that often in his lyrics. Sometimes in a condemning way and sometimes in a positive way weather he realizes it or not.
Please do more tool after this! I'd recommend The Pot and Lateralus, but every song is great... Every. Song.
Oh, definitely will be doing more. Thank you!
seconded
The Pot is the typical first Tool reaction folks do. I simply prefer the road less traveled. Both The Pot and Lateralus would be good next picks.
@@taylormartin107 agreed. The Pot is a great song, but it also has the most mainstream appeal. To the credit of Nick’s patron that made the request, Right in Two is a much deeper cut.
Based solely on Nick’s reaction here, I think he’d really enjoy Lateralus, Parabol / Parabola, or if we’re sticking with the 10,000 Days album, Vicarous and 10,000 Days / Wings for Marie.
@@SSPspaz I'm glad you liked the recommendation. Twas I who made it lol
Tool Army is pulling up 🤟
“Mecca lecca hi, mecca hiney ho!” One should listen to Tool's Jambi at least once a day, every day.
Nick…you’ve just been born again! Tool is nothing short of phenomenal! My personal favorite band.
Thank you Matt, cannot wait to delve in
Welcome to the greatest band ever. Spiral out young man. 🌀👆🇺🇲🤘
Thank you so much Mark!
This song is one of my favorites by Tool. Very straightforward meaning for them, actually. A conversation between Angels, just wondering why Humanity is so Self-Defeating, always wanting more, when there is plenty to go around. Why are we so willing to hurt each other to just be more selfish? To be more greedy? They don't know. Unfortunately, neither do we.
Same, Right in Two was a perfect intro imo
The final lines, "wondering when this tug-of-war will end... cut it all right in two" like what happens when you cut a rope that people are pulling on? Everyone ends up on their asses. Amazing Karmic foreshadowing.
And the quest begins.
Love tool so much! Every song of theirs is an incredible experience. Enjoyed your reaction! You got a like 👍
Thanks so much!!
Tool is an experience. If you're not looking for it, you don't find it. You just hear music. If it's not their type of music, people just ignore it. But there's always something in their catalog that catches you, and then you understand. I hit my first Tool concert on the mid-90's and it was unlike anything I'd ever seen. The combination of the music, the show, and the way they do it is just different.
TOOL doesn’t have one particular genre and it’s safe to say they are in a genre of their own. They are routinely compared to Pink Floyd. Maynard James Keenan is our generations John Lennon/Bob Dylan, his penmanship is beyond anything any other singer/lyricist can create. They boys are in their 50s so let’s enjoy their music while we still have them making it. Spiral Out ✌️
Tool is one in a lifetime band. 🌀🌀🌀👍👍👍
I can’t help but get chills and , yes, get tears in my eyes whenever I watch someone hear Tool for the first time along with reading the lyrics.
I just have such a deep appreciation and love of this band (I listen to them every day) , I could never pick a favorite song, but there have been temporary favorites during periods of my life
Discovering and experiencing the music of Tool is going to be a wild ride and I’m looking forward to strapping in and taking the journey with you
Thank you James! I can’t wait. Seems like a very interesting and intense band
They have more than one album. There are 5. The first was released in 1993 and the latest in 2019. Their music is complex, deep, and needs to be listened to more than once to be absorbed. Five incredibly talented men who together are greater than the sum of their parts.
I must have misunderstood! That means more great music
*6 albums if you include Opiate which you should... and *Four incredibly talented men at a time but, I assume you included Paul D'Amour, the original bassist.
6 albums
Yeah, 4 dudes, they changed bassist back in 1995
@@l.a.native6921actually 7 albums because you have Salival which includes live performances and also includes the No Quarter song by Led Zeppkin.
I took my 16 year old son to his first concert ever and it was TOOL. We were centre front of stage 20ft away. Unfortunately I have now screwed it for him for any concert he sees ever
3 decades. That is how long Tool has been a soundtrack in my life. Even in the days of CDs , the bootleg tape would make its way through the US Mail from a friend on the west coast. That was Opiate for me. Drinking, eating shrooms and having a bonfire on the beach at the ripe young age of 21. You are opening up to the joy of MJK. Welcome to not 1, not 2, but several new bands he fronts.
I can guarantee you that we like more when you say with a smile in your face "I like this" hahaha That's why we love seeing in people listening to tool for the 1st time, to see them joining the tool army and we know that your life won't be the same after every tool song you're going to discover. And always in the perfect timing!
Be sure you always have Tool's lyrics handy on their songs. What he says is just as important and meaningful as the music itself
Agreed, and on many songs they have MJK vocals mixed softly, so lyrics can be hard to hear
Cannot wait. Good advice!
@@nickforell1 Also, other than the live version of Sober never watch the animated videos. The official Tool videos have little to do with the lyrics and are just distracting from the music.
I recommend not doing the lyrics the first time.. Just feel the song the first time.
@@dangr123 while I would say that to the average person, who is listening to Tool for the first time, I don't think that is appropriate for a reaction video because fans want to hear the person's reaction to both the music and Maynard's lyrics and it seems impractical to make 2 seperate videos.
These are my favorite songs by member:
Drums-Pneuma (live drum cam)
Bass-Schism or Jambi (can never decide)
Guitar-7empest (an Adam Jones master class)
Vocals-The Grudge
All Together Now!-Lateralus
Have fun!
Such a great track.
A great cover of this song, if anyone is interested.
"Right in two (Tool cover) - Beard of Harmony ft. Yann Phayphet (Live recording)"

"Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability To lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here"
60 year old, here and Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer are ALL my favorite top 3 bands. All lead by Maynard James Keenan.
Don’t apologize for stopping and thinking about a Tool song. This is why they make these songs. Plus we’ve all heard this million times. You haven’t.
That percussion sound youre talking about at 10:30 is an indian instrument called tabla
Tool, what is there to say but brace yourself for something truly unique, intelligent and over all it’s just 1 sonic journey after another. You will see a lot of comments saying “you don’t listen to Tool, you experience it”. That’s a pretty accurate statement. Great reaction, looking forward to more…the 19:52 pot is a great place to start.
Thank you Christine for the guidance!
Nice work to Taylor for bringing another into the fold. Spiral out Nick. Welcome to TOOL. TOOL Army is here for ya. Subscribed. Now more TOOL. 🤘🏻🌀
It had to be done! Each song is a spiritual journey if you listen rather than hear the music.
Thank you Salty and to Taylor!
Tool are simply, quietly, incredibly the best active band on this planet… nothing more, nothing less
There is absolutely no other band that does what Tool does for me. I’m not the biggest metal fan either, but what Tool does is next level. There will never be a band quite like them. Thanks for reacting to this. Can’t wait to see more reactions from you.
One of the best songs ever written. Still gets me.
Tool are in a genre of their own
So excited for this one!
Lyrics man. Lyrics is what turns Tool from a great band to an AMAZING band.
Between philosophical explorations, mathematical epics, abstract emotional forays, twisted sonic interludes, darkly humorous odes, and long, winding, grandiose symphonettes about chimichangas in Area 51 - yes, there is one, and it's out of this world! - there is absolutely nothing ordinary about this band.
Alrighty, then - picture this, if you will:
Most groups labour under the idea that they make the music. Tool is one of those rare few who prove that Music makes THEM.
Enjoy the journey mate, it's a deep, and wild one!
You are going to be barraged by Tool requests as the other comment said, but if you take that journey, I can assure you will be glad you did. You seem like an analytical, intelligent person with an artistic, maybe literary side. All of those qualities describe the music of Tool as well. They are doing things that have never been done in modern music.( I can attest to at least the last 100 years of popular music). That may be hard to believe, but it is true.
Oh yeah, that percussion sound in the beginning is I believe mostly Tabla Drum which is used primarily in Classical Indian music. ( Think Ravi Shankar or Ali Akbar Khan)
Thank you Ben! I appreciate that insight. Well hats off to them for finding cool ways to add to their music
Welcome to the experience that is Tool. This band is life-changing for some people, and pretty much all their work is incredibly detailed and layered.
The Tool Army is already anticipating your next Tool reaction and I would recommend The Pot Eulogy, 46 & 2 or Lateralus.
Spiral out, friend
I’ve seen every Tool tour, and as amazing as they’ve all been, nothing compares to the show they put on for their first EP “Opiate”. It was in a small private college gym, and they literally hypnotized the crowd. I snapped out of it, looked around, and saw people falling backwards like in a Pentecostal church. I went to tell my very tall friend next to me, and just as I did he fell backwards flat on his back. I will never forget that experience. Just mind-bending.
I'm always so jealous of someone who is experiencing tool for the 1st time. Now that you've gone down the tool rabbit hole there is a 100% chance they will become your favorite band. Enjoy the ride my man!
Dude , if you haven’t heard anything yet. This band will lodge in your brain and your soul.

“There’s some light metal elements to it …” yeah, the trap is set.
Heh, "That was a satisfying build-up" - My friend, that's one of the many areas where Tool is at the absolute pinnacle. I do hope you return to them. It's well worth it. Perhaps try Lateralus, Vicarious, or Schism. Fear Innoculum, their most recent album, is brilliant but in my opinion best enjoyed when you know them a little first.

Every album of TOOL’s is a masterpiece.
Lateralus ( Just my opinion ) is the most esoteric album of our age.. an absolute journey from start to finish.
The Grudge is musical / artistic perfection and one of my all time faves.

Dude, if you are just getting into Tool... I envy you. I wish I could experience Tool for the first time over again. The tool conundrum... Every Tool song is better than the last and it doesn't matter which order you listen to them
I didn't think Tool could top 10,000 days, then I heard the Fear Inoculum album! Best EVER!
TOOL has 5 albums, the latest one was the first in 13 yrs. They came out in the early 90's, when grunge 1st hit the scene. They went against the grain at the time and have shown to be masters of their craft. I've seen them live 5 times since 93, and it is a must for any TOOL fan. He is not talking about over population; he's talking about how stupid humans behave. The drummer Danny is one of the best drummers in the world.
