Thank you so much for enjoying the hike from across the world. I know they are much smaller than the mountains you have the pleasure of living near! Cheers and happy hiking!
Glad to here you finished! What an accomplishment! I did that One recently and it had a great view. I hope you had a view the day you went to make it all worth it!
Did this about 30 years ago - got injured about a quarter-mile from the ski lift area on the way to Carter Notch Hut. Had to abort the trip - they sent me(and my pack)down the mountain, no charge on the ski lift. A few years later I did the entire trail in reverse, coming up from Carter Notch. Great hiking.
I used to literally live across the street from here on the West side of 16. You should stop in to LImmers and get fitted for a pair of customs. They have saved me from rolling ankles many times. Also, I recommend a pair of tall gaitors. Not only do they help keep out debris from getting down in your socks, but they can be pulled up when the temp drops to moderate your temp without having to swap into/out of long pants. Ragged has decent gators, but a pair of Outdoor Research lasted me over 30 years. Great vids - keep 'em up.
I just watched this video for the 1st time (I like to watch hiking videos before I run to work). This was amazing. I don't know how you have the energy to set up the camera and retrace your steps. Amazing!
Great job filming this and congrats on the summits. I can't believe all the b-roll footage that you shot, which must have made this even more of a sufferfest. After watching this I am inspired to check out Glen Ellis Falls!
Ooo trust me Barb this was a very very long day. The sun set before I got back to my car lol. You should it’s such a fun short little walk and you can really feel the power of the falls standing next to it.
Well, Adam thanks for the reminder of my attempt of Wildcat in 2006. I jumped a few rocks on that creek and my two water bottles rocked out of my backpack . They landed in the water and went downstream. I got two soakers trying to retrieve them and that ended my hike. Haha
I did this in the summer 1990 and then again in the summer1991 and continued into Carter Notch, and I will say the DOWNHILL from Summit A to the Carter Notch Hike is BRUTAL ... huge bolder, huge bolder, down down down ... you can definitely go out 19 Mile Brook or continue up into the Baldface Range (which is pretty awesome)
Glad to hear my thoughts about that descent being tough too are corroborated haha. Eventually I will go hike this and experience that pain for myself haha
Wow, that was terrifying and you don’t even get credit for it. What beautiful nature shots and the views were breath taking. Now I know what the stream crossing looked like for when Dad tried to hike it.
Glen Ellis Falls trail - I hiked that one night by the light of a full moon, didn't even have to use a head lamp it was so bright out. Oh yeah and the terrifying steps, I got my dog to do those though he did have some whiny spots where he was telling me how iffy he thought it was.
I did the A and D summits at different times. I added A as part of the Carter loop. It's not too far from Carter Notch and although it is steep it's more of a stair climb than a scramble. I did Wildcat D on a day that I did another of the easier NH48 summits (in a different section of the Whites). For this I used a ski trail that is 2.5 miles each way and mostly follows the access road to the ski lift between D and E. It has about 2,000 feet of elevation gain but being on and off ski slopes has views all the way to the top. It's on All Trails as Wildcat Ski Slope to Wildcat Mountain. Thanks for doing this one so the rest of us don't have to.
Those sound like nice routes and loops as well. I'll have to check them out myself someday. Its nice the amount of variety and options you can find to tackle all the summits.
Section hiking the AT and doing the whites this summer. Quick question, resupply options? We have a resupply in Hanover but need some advice on it once I enter the range. Thx
awesome video adam! i avoided the ridge trail after hiking wildcat A from carter notch! also when you do some of the slide trails like tripyramids, you might not be abled to get the tripod up there, it’s very steep and some sections are ledgy!
I can definitely second what you are saying! Hiking back down that steep trail, oops I mean butt sliding lol, as it was getting dark, though amazingly scenic, was so much more terrible than hiking it up when I started my day hike!
I watched your video because my friend who's been thru hiking from the southern terminus solo just decided to end her hike through in NH because of the rock scrambling and steep cliff terrain. She's done so well these last 160 days. I'm proud of her though for knowing her limits, and even more impressed by your videography during the climb. You make it look so dang effortless though I know it not to be true. You got some tree trunk sized calves! The cyclist in me in envious 🤣
@@AnthonyMerryman oo wow she made it so far but will have to come and see sections of The rest in the future. Glad she made the right choice to stay safe. Omg that was a freaking day filming this lol.
Hi Adam. First video I've watched of yours, very well photographed and produced. I am an AT section-hiker and have made it to Harper's Ferry, WV. Hoping to make it to this part one day. Look forward to watching others you've made. Thanks, and God Bless
Welcome aboard! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. You've been killing it so far. Hopefully some day I'll be bale to o as many sections hikes as you! Many more to come, glad you're along for the ride!
Adam, that looked like some rough trail. I'm amazed by the way that you scrambled up those slopes while carrying a camera and tripod. I only use a GoPro and a lite weight tripod for my videos. Awesome video.
I did this on jan 9 2024 two feet of snow at 1 degree😂. I figured it was ok to do safely but as i ascended in snowshoes i noticed about 1/3 of a mile up the ascent all the footprints turned around🤣. So i broke trail all the way up. It was my second winter hike🤣
On my '21 thru hike. 8 of us got to the top of Wildcat D and it turned to torrential rains and 30+ mph. We hiked to Zeta pass as a group just to stay safe. No views for us 😭
Quite well since it is on the AT. But there is only like one kind of sheer rock face that spreads out and is open to interpretation. Most of the trail is a tree tunnel and easily followed regardless, both ascending and then following the ridge.
@@AdamHoyt Another question if I may: I'm not wild about heights, particularly ledges and edges. I'm ok with climbing, but I'm a little anxious about the heights. Great video by the way, and yes, you did capture how freaking steep it was.
Following the AT roughly 14 miles from my turn around point. If I aimed to just get to the next quickest road as fast as possible, around 4 miles, and that was 4.5 miles from where my car was parked lol
You should have taken the ski lift back down ( I would have ). I always find going down the toughest on my knees. I'm kind of a lazy, fair weather hiker.
Hi Adam. The actual summit for A is off to the side of the trail to the viewpoint and not the boggy intersection. As you go to the viewpoint keep looking to your right and you will see a path that climbs a few feet to a high point marked with a small cairn. It can be hard to see as it is located in some thicker trees. Maybe you know this, but I didn't see it in the video. Also, you can make a loop by going out via 19 Mile Brook Trail from the notch after you descend from A. This will leave you with a 3+ mile road walk back to the trailhead (uphill) unless you take a friend and spot a second car or stash a bike if you're solo. Even with the roadwalk it is better than doing the ridge twice and descending the steeps IMHO, not to mention having to climb back up A from the notch. I have 59 of the 100 highest completed and hope to at least finish the NH48 this summer and maybe the NE67, my nearly 70 year old knees willing. Your videos are helpful in my planning as they show the terrain versus the descriptions in trail guides and trip reports. Thanks.
Hopping to bag these next year along with Moriah. My hope to to get down to the bottom and stealth camp, then finish up near Goram following the AT. That way I get all 6 peaks, the T25 trail and a section of the AT!
