- This summer I hiked the Appalachian Trail. A 2,200 mile footpath from Georgia to Maine. This film tells the story of my hike. Thank you for watching!

Video shot on GoPro 11, 35mm stills shot on Olympus XA
Wow! Thank you everyone for 100,000+ views! I have never achieved this milestone on a video before! Blown away by all the love and support!
And to all those who asked why I was wearing the fruit dress, see below:
As I mentioned briefly in the credits, my friend Matt traded for the fruit dress on the PCT in 2019 and walked a few hundred miles in it. My friend Noé hiked the 200 mile Sierra High Route in the fruit dress in 2021. I planned to hike the first few hundred miles of the AT in it and pass it off to someone else or send it home.
But, it was too fun to hike in! I felt stylish, it was a good conversation starter, and looking down at the fruit helped break up the monotony of the trail sometimes. On rainy days I couldn't wear it because it is cotton, but on hot and humid days, wearing just the fruit dress and pants provided excellent ventilation.
I met someone who was hiking the trail barefoot, and heard of someone who hiked the trail with a leafblower. Since they pulled off those much more difficult feats, I decided I could carry a few extra ounces and hike the whole trail in a fruit dress.
I have gotten a lot of hateful comments about it on here, but received nothing but compliments on trail. I guess that's the difference between the AT and the internet....
Keep the AT weird!

You deserve it, nicely put together!
forget the haters. Keep enjoying what you are doing :)
thank you for this!
Thank you for watching!
Wow you did such a great job on this video it's just outstanding. Covering the entire trail and doing it in a very entertaining way.
Great vid, maybe the best trail vid I've ever seen. Thanx.
Truly inspirational, thank you for sharing!
Well done and thank you for sharing your journey.
Awesome journey! So good to see it all again ( I sobo’d in 2019 ) . Thank you for taking the extraordinary effort to document your journey so beautifully, for commenting on climate change, and leaving no trace. I appreciate you. I’m sure the journey continues and all the best.👊🏽
Nobo 2019
Loved watching it! If a picture is worth a thousand words this videos is worth millions :)
Curious about your smock. It's over a polo and shorts.. Sonim curious if it serves a purpose.. like pockets perhaps? Or is just something you enjoy wearing? Awesome job on the hike and the Video! Amazing work!
Mesmerized!
Thoroughly enjoyed.this beautiful video of your amazing journey!! Great videography Great narration Great music Thank you for sharing your adventure with us!
Thanks for watching!
Hands down one of my favorite AT thru-hike documentary. Crazy how a two second clip from a obscure corner of the trail can bring back memories from years ago. You made me relive a bit of my own thru-hike and I am grateful for it.
Agree
Great video, thanks for sharing. Congrats 🎉
Loved this!
Great video, great dress!
Loved walking with this video. Thanks for creating and posting.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wonderful film! What a great combination of video, music and narrative. Very talented. Bob from Tennessee.
Thank you!
Definitely one of the best videos I've seen!!!!
I truly felt the heart and passion that you put into this video. So inspiring and beautiful. God bless you for sharing your journey of the AT with us, thank you. ❤
Congratulations! I enjoyed this
Excellent! Loved this so much.
Great video. Thank you for sharing. Congrats! Hope to meet you one day on Trail! Rock N Roll
thanks Rock N Roll!
Tremendous job putting this together, awesome beautiful vlogging, hiking, scenery, very much enjoyed, all the very best, health and happiness.
Excellent! 👍. Whole trail captured well in short video!
Thank you!
I just found you Anthony! ;)
You definitely are a gifted photographer and entertainer. ❤ Congratulations to you and all your new friends on finishing the APPALACHIAN TRAIL!
I really enjoyed your music 🎶 selections and video. Absolutely beautiful views and excellent filming ❤ Best wishes to you all on whatever you choose to do in life. 🙏 ❤🎉 ✌ ;) Happy hiking
Amazing video. Congratulations on such an accomplishment.
Love your birdie. I would have love to see you from the beginning to the end. . So many people and too many videos. I enjoy this video tho. Best wishes
"The trail enhances the beauty of all the sights/sites it weaves together."
What a gift you are giving to those of us who are not able to make such a trip, and those who are truly handicapped but long to be in nature ...... I felt like I was walking the trail myself! Thank you!
thanks for watching!
Enjoyed your video very much. Hope you are well. Very nicely done.
I hiked the part in georgia couple years ago, this is making me nostalgic
This is an awesome movie! I am planning to hike the AT next year, and watching this gave me so much inspiration!
thank you! all the best on your hike next year!
Thanks for sharing your journey! Enjoyed watching. When you said you had lyme i felt for you. I live in NH and have been battling lyme for 10 years. When you said you were reinfected with lyme for the second time my gut tells me the first treatment was not adequate. When a person gets sick with "lyme disease" you most likely have a number of other infections from the tick. If your symptoms come keep coming back find a lyme literate medical doctor LLMD. Or any doctor with lots of experience with it. Your typical doctors will be little to no help. Hope you have the best outcome.
Have you conisdered "Te Aroroa" The Long Path in New Zealand? I feel like that would be a hard hike to beat. That's my bucket list.
Great video! Glad you enjoyed the Smokies 🐻. Ridgerunner Chris
Great video bro. Its not often I just put my phone down and watch a whole youtube video but you hooked me in. Can I ask how hard was it to transition back to regular life or are you still struggling with that a bit?
Terrific video. I was a month behind you climbing Katahdin on 9/10. Seeing this is like reliving the experience.
thank you! congrats on finishing the trail!
nice vid ,love your printed shirt too you make that ?
Unfortunately I didn't make it, my friend traded for it on the PCT
Thank you for taking us along on your Thru-Hike Mugwort - such a thru'r is not in my future but section hikes certainly are so I much appreciate the insite and "previews". I'm newly subscribed to your channel so you may have answered this before, but is there a significance to the colorful tunic you wear on this hike? Also, the hiker with the Husky - was he a thru-hiker or section hiker? I hike with my dogs so curious as I don't see how one can take dogs on the ladder sections and I know certain parts have a no-dog policy. THANKS and HAPPY TRAILS!!
Perfect video 👌 ... what did you film (the majority of) this with? GoPro?, Camera? If so what lenses did you have with you?
Thank you! FIlmed the whole thing with my gopro. The film camera only takes photos.
Was his trail name Juggler?
And what was the backstory with his shirt?
Double dose of Lyme, wow that is brutal.
I'm only half way through, but I can't stop myself from wondering and asking... what's with the dress? Genuinely curious bc I just don't get it
Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful adventure! I completed a section hike of the AT about a half dozen years ago and I could still recognize many locations in your video. Many sincere thanks!
thank you for watching! glad I could help you relive parts of your hike!
A dream for me, but too late I have been born in "40" Next life...
Probably got lyme twice from sleeping on the ground without a tent. ticks love that.
Is he wearing a dress at the beginning?🤨
Is that a apron? And why? Lol.. awesome regardless.. loved the video! I live near the North Eastern part and think of just getting on and walking south to Georgia regularly. Good work my friend 👊
I wondered about the "apron" also !!!!
Looks like a dress
This was incredible! So inspiring. I feel like you’ve captured the AT in a way I’ve never seen before in other videos. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you! Really appreciate the kind words!
Agreed!
Im a retired NFL player who loves everything about the outdoors & hiking the AT. Thank you for making my playbook. Ill be doing this next year. Couldn't be more excited & scared at the same time. Woods have been calling me for years... Well done & thank you again. Hope our paths cross.
I’ll see you out there 🫡
Congratulations to you for an incredible achievement! I dont know you but I am very proud of you! I am 75 years old and I cant hike anymore because of my back. It was wonderful to see the scenery and go along with you!
I’m originally from Ocean City, MD and live in OK now. My dad used to hike the AT when I was younger. I’d go on practice hikes but he’d never let me go on the real hike ‘cause I’m a girl. That was back in the early 80’s. My brother has been several times, hiking parts here and there over the years. My husband and I have hiked recently in Arkansas, TX, OK, MO, CO, and after watching your video, I’m moved to tears. I vow that we will go back “home” and hike the AT one day. Thank you for capturing your trip on video for the rest of us.
I just decided a week ago I'm going in 2025. I wanted to in the upcoming 24 season but I think it'd be best with such short notice to take a year and learn all I can in prep.
happy trails to both of you! wish you both the best on your upcoming hikes!
@@BrianLane21 Definitely do your research and talk with people who have actually done it.
Meanwhile, research some more and practice, practice, practice whenever possible between now and when you head out.
Best of luck!
My family always used to visit ocean city and I was amazed by the kite store on the boardwalk. Always would have to make a stop at Threshers as well!
A great trail docu, but dude what´s up with the yellow dress?
My friends and I have been taking turns hiking trails with it.
Well done - what an epic adventure. We’ve hiked the smokies and jumped onto the AT for a very short portion near Clingmans Dome…would love to have the ability to thru hike the entire AT. Your cinematography is stunning, beautiful, and inspirational. Great music throughout as well. Thank you for sharing.
Have you ever seen a famous person on trail? Actor, politician, weight lifter, CEO et.
I never have. WHAT.... They don't like hiking?
Never have, I heard there have been a few though. Trail names provide anonymity.
what's with the fruit dress thing
Id like to know also
This is a fantastic video. I summited on 9/22 and it brings back many memories; some wonderful and some bittersweet. Crazy, though, to see a two-second clip and immediately recognize where you were standing when you filmed it. Thanks for sharing! Hope to see you out there someday. Edit: and as a fellow juggler, maybe we'll be able to do a few passes.
thank you! congratulations on your through hike. glad I could help bring back some memories. would be awesome to run into you one day and do a few passes!
What a journey! You are such a champ for pushing through despite the double lime.
The bit where you mentioned that the trail was broken into thirds - 1/3 physical, 1/3 mental, and 1/3 spiritual was beautiful.
Congrats on your hike!
Thank you!
Wonderful video. Wonderful story. And what a great accomplishment. Congrats.
If you’re going to hike it…you should know how to pronounce it! Appa LATCH ian!
I pronounced it each way a few times haha. I tried to pronounce it Latch in the south and lays in the north.
Thanks for filming and sharing. I live in the CA Sierra and was so bummed about 2023 snow, (tho glad it prevented more fire devastation) that I went out to Virginia in May. I went to Trail Days and backpacked a mere 20 or so miles of the AT. The rest was on the Creeper Trails to make a loop to get back. Well, I fell in love. The trail, the people, everything. I’ll be back!
Wow Dude Super Congrats !!!! You made me cry like a baby when you got to the summit of Katahdin. You (and everyone else who has ever completed the entire AT hike) has my ultimate respect
Mugwort, you have done an amazing job. Beautiful footage, great narration and the perfect soundtrack.
Congratulations!
Thank you Big Bird, and thanks for your help along the way!
Good for you, young man! I know you're a better person in many ways for having walked the AT. Thank you for sharing your journey of the AT and life on it with all of us.
Agree.
I’m Bird’s Uncle. Thank you SO much for sharing this, and giving us a glimpse into what they went through. Congratulations!!
Thank you Bird's Uncle!
When did you start? How were the Smokies? Any bad weather?
I am planning a AT thru hike with a buddy of mine. Thanks for posting this.
awesome! all the best to you and your friend!
@@aottatihey great video Anthony.
Would be great if you would make a video about what gear you used on the AT, lessons learned from your PCT and AT hikes to others please.
Awesome, awesome, awesome video! The filming, editing, and soundtrack were all fantastic. This gave me a good sense of what it's like to be on the AT and excellent motivation for my AT thru-hike (tentatively planned for 2026!). Congrats and thank you for sharing your adventure with us!
Superb 👏, I’ve been sectioning for past 12 years….. finishing at Katahdin next year 😊
Awesome journey, congrats on making it through! And thanks for putting this together, it's inspiring for us (hopeful) future hikers.
Such an excellent video, quite inspiring, thank you ! 🙏
Concerning Lyme Disease - That is why I avoid hiking during tick season, which here in Alabama is mid/late April to July, as I recall. And permethrin is king. I've witnessed it actually killing a tick that was crawling on my shoe.
What's the significance of the colorful garment?
I finished on Oct 13 and haven’t really missed the trail (the last few weeks were super hard for me) til now! 😢😢😢 but in a good way ❤❤❤
congratulations! I know what you mean, I miss the trail in a good way as well!
Incredible video of an incredible journey. Glad you made it thru Vermont safely during the floods this summer.
How did you make the far off videos of yourself ? Did someone else shoot it for you. Are you also using a go pro ?
All of the videos are shot on gopro. For some of the videos, I set the camera down, walked off into the distance and walked back.
Great video! You captured some really spectacular scenery and vistas. You must have been going at a pretty fair pace to complete the trip in only 4 months while getting Lyme Disease twice and having to stop. Not many hikers complete in four months even without those kind of setbacks.
I met you the night before Unicoi. We all knew youd make it. Congratulations! Loved this video.
Thanks Jason! Was great meeting you right before Unicoi and hearing about your life in Colorado and your return to the southeast.
This was such a lovely video! Thank you for taking us along. I love the fruit dress. I appreciate your explanation of why you wore it, but truly if you wanna wear a dress while hiking 2200 miles through the trail it’s really nobody’s business why you want to do it. I love that you had the courage to wear it and I’m sure you brought a lot of smiles to those on the trail. I hope your health continues to improve.
Talking with you on the Amtrak train back to southern California was a treat. Not sure if you remember me but I just finished the PCT. So cool that I was able to find this video. 😄 -Hero
Hey Thanks this is one hell of a push brother great video keep on humping.Hey did it feel like you lost half of your traillegs after 2 weeks..
thank you! it's hard to tell with the Lyme. I'd say a lot of aches and pains went away, but I felt much worse because of the residual Lyme symptoms.
Let's go big man! Hell of a hike! I'm excited to see what the fruit dress does next.
Thanks Matt! Glad you traded for it on the PCT back in 2019. Looking forward to seeing what it does next as well!
Whatup Mugwort? What I luv about your video is how your personality shined thru along with the trials and tribulations of a long & hard but lifelong rewarding journey all your hikes are. Kudos to you my friend and hope you have many more rewarding journeys ahead🙏. Leave no trace...
thank you for the kind words! happy trails!
Congratulations! Fellow 2023 AT thru hiker and I really enjoyed watching this. “Soup Cup”
Nice video. Preventing lime disease bug spray, catnip, gators around legs& and attach the shoes, lime repellent clothes.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Wonderful to have met you towards the end.
Thanks Santiago! Was a pleasure hiking with you the last few days!
One of the very best AT vlogs I've seen. You're a thru hiker! Congratulations.
that is high praise, thank you!
What an awe-inspiring documentary. Thank you for bringing us with you on your hike. Hope to see you out there in 2025.
It was a pleasure meeting you this year Mugwort
Great to meet you as well Grams!
Thank you for making this compilation video. Well done!
Beautiful and so inspiring, thanks for sharing it. P.S I LOVE that fruit apron thing you are wearing. =) It makes you look so original and cool.
thank you!!
Thank you , I forgot how much I missed the trail, my tramily and the community. GA 2 ME , hard times , great times and the best 169 days of my life. You captured the beauty better than anyone I have watched in this hour long documentary and I thank you for it. You were able to make me feel the trail again and I am grateful for that. Thank you for the trail magic you gave this class of 22 thru hiker.
thank you for your kind words! glad I could help you feel the trail again!
Great video, great choices of views displayed… the go pro 11 for sharpness was great…the music choices were perfect for the content. Great editing. I don’t really know what was up with the fruit dress but you do you…. Awesome views though, thanks for those, great job 👍
Fabulous video. Small question, as I have yet to watch the other videos, is there a special significance to the fruit dress? You rocked it btw, but just wondered if has a specific meaning for you. Thanks
What an incredible journey and the obstacles you overcome came!!! Juggling is your therapy? Good job! I was able to’ wet my feet’ on the AT a few years back…Some day I will hike the whole trail…congratulations!
Female fire fighters in Canadia let a controlled burn escape: Muh climate chungus.
Rained on Wed. Help me Greta.!!
Great video! What's the closing song, the one with locking eyes in the lyrics? I googled the lyrics but can't find it. Thank you!
Incredible, YOU are such a breath of fresh air!
I watched this because I felt like hiking with you on the trail. Thank you for allowing me to tag along.
thanks for watching!
❤️
Thank you for the inspiring video! Great job!!
