Huntington Ravine Trail - The Most Dangerous Hiking Trail In The Whites

- In this video, I hike a lollipop loop hike up the Huntington Ravine Trail to Mt Washington and down Tuckerman Ravine. The Huntington Ravine Trail is at the Pinnacle of the Terrifying 25 in New Hampshire and lived up to its name. This was for sure the most challenging regular hike I've ever ascended in my life but it quickly became my all time favorite so far! A level 2-3 scramble for over half a mile, with some 40-50 degree pitches, this was a challenge to say the least. Beautiful, rugged, and a challenge for your entire body. I Highly recommend this one to more seasoned hikers and climbers who want a fun day of scrambling through giant boulders, talus rock and some steep slab that requires some careful hand and foot holds. 10/10!
Please don't attempt this hike in bad weather, improper footwear, or without proper knowledge and some experience with climbing/scrambling in level 3 terrain.
Ensure you have proper food, water, and gear and always remember to turn around at the first sign of bad weather. The mountains will be there next time. And of course - LNT! :)
If you are interested in hiking this hike or any other hike in NH and don't feel comfortable doing it alone, I highly recommend you reach out to Debra Mccown. She is a certified New Hampshire guide and is amazing at what she does! She gave me lots of pointers for this trip as it's one of her favorites. Here's a link to her FB page.

Here’s a link to the route I ascended - the descent was via Tuckerman Ravine. 😀

As always, thanks for watching and Happy Hiking!
9k 😂 wow.
That's incredible.
I saw massive potential in you.
You captured nature around you.
You walk and talk well.
That was beautiful.
Great job.
You must be already thinking about your next adventure.
This worked so I'd stick with it.
Stick with 1 girl walking🚶🏻♀️👍🫡👏👏❤️
You rock dude, thanks!! Really. Thanks so much!! 😅😀 Your encouragement is so
Appreciated! Can’t wait to see your next adventure!
@AmandaDouin
Thank you😁
I'm editing it now.
The weather beat me up.
I had to go up and finish it.
I had a swim, filmed a crashed plane.
Someone from America is coming over in September and I'm taking her up there.
It was her dad's cousin.
I'm hoping to have my little video up later today. I will definitely not have 9k views😂 I'll have a few, hopefully it will do okay. I'm picking up a little bit now.
Thank you Amanda 🫡😉👋
@@JamieHarding5 I think part of it was the whole ‘most dangerous’ caption bit… lol. People like them some danger. 😅 Do I have to risk my life everytime now for extra views.. 😂😂😂
@@JamieHarding5 That is totally nice of you for agreeing to guide her up there. Can’t wait to see the footage! Plane crashes are surreal, and sometimes hard to find.. very captivating.
@@AmandaDouin
😂😂 Brilliant😂👌👏👏
I lived and worked as Hermitt Lake Caretaker in Tuckermans Ravine for 3 years all year and i agree this is a challenging trail that many people get thrills hiking. I personally enjoyed climbing up Pinnacale Gully or nearby having a quick snack in the summit building then down climbing the Huntington trail. I only hated this trail when someone got hurt on it and we did night rescue with few extra hands to help. Nicely done.
Oh wow, what a cool opportunity for you to have gotten to stay there. And thank you so much for helping with the rescues! That’s such an honorable thing to do. It sounds like you have a lot of climbing experience under your belt, awesome!
Thank you for posting this! I never did hike Huntington Ravine so it was fun seeing it from the a hiker's perspective! To summit Washington it was always Tuckerman Ravine/Lion Head or a trail from the south (can't remember which ones). I did try skiing in Tuckerman's once, but that was when I was young and foolish!
Sometime in the early 1950’s, my late Father skied Tuckerman’s Ravine. He had to hike up with his skis on his back. Heavy wood ski’s and lace-up ski boots.
Wow! Impressive, especially with the older equipment. 💗💗💗💪🏻 I’m not a skier so I admire people who adventure in those outdoor activities.
I'm 58 years old, no way I could do that now. Bravo, you did it ! Very impressive.
Aww thanks! 💗
Get up and get walking! 58 is the new 40
@@slavashalava True that!
That's a big day out and tough terrain. Lots could go wrong but you planned it and executed it well. Well done, great effort. Enjoyed your film. Andy, in England.
Yes indeed.. Thank you so much!! 💗💗💗
I can only dream. Thoroughly enjoyed going along by video, this mountain has been a fantasy for a long time. What a talented hiker and pleasant personality. Thank you.
So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much and I hope you get to conquer it one day too! 😁
ok, if you want to write a long story, you have to do it here and not on the comment section of those quickie video. so here is my boring story, but it's ok because I'm 75 and i like to ramble on. so in 1968 i was working at the Spalding Inn, a very nice expensive that had great food in Whitefield, New Hampshire. a friend from PA drove his old car up to visit. we drove his 1956 Chrysler which he named Clara Bell. (that was the name of something on the old old Howdy Doody show) and it was a great trip of this amazing mountain. middle of summer and it was a HOT summer but it was quite chilly at the top. so we drove the car down but it was dangerous because old cars didn't have disk brakes, but drum brakes and when they get hot, you have NO BRAKES. you have to pull over and just wait till they cool. Ok that is my first experience with Mt Washington. would love to go back. 7 years ago, i was cleaning the Veterans Administration and an older doctor said that her 95 year old father RAN up mt Washington, yes when he was 95!! he has just done it!!!!! Anyway, that is the story. thanks for being nice
I love that story! Thank you for sharing. I had no idea about drum brakes! That’s pretty scary, and interesting. The human body is amazing. We are capable of so much more than we think. 💗💗💗💗
In 1968, I was 20 years old and backpacking in Viet Nam, least that’s what they told me. I did backpack the White Mountains through the 70s and 80s though. I still get up,but at 78 I don’t hike much.
Incredible challenge, your overall skills are magnificent. You must be exhausted but still maintain focus and concentration!Best hike I’ve seen !!😊
Thank you, I did the same route about 45 years ago. I haven't been back since. Good job.
That’s awesome! Thank you! 😀
Me too, about 43 years ago. It was one of my favorites.
Well done.. I did that trail years ago. I think in basketball shoes..Great job!
Oh wow! Awesome.
Thank you 😃
Wow, you did well- the rock scramble looks exposed! Thank you for sharing your experience.
Thanks! There are def some sections that are pretty exposed! 😅 Thanks for watching!! 💗
Back in the early seventies, we used to climb Mt Washinton all the time. In the spring we would ski Huntington and Tuckerman's. Most times when we would go up Tuckerman and return down Lions head. I got caught on Lions head in the fog once, I had to sit down for about a half hour because I could not see where I was going, Luckily, I stopped. Thanks for this video.
Oh wow! Sound like you have a lot of good memories there.
How scary, I’m glad you stopped and waited out the fog and made it back safely.
Thanks for watching! 💗
This was a well-done video of a very challenging route. You are obviously a strong and experienced hiker and I appreciated your thoughtful and deliberate demeanor while tackling the most difficult sections. Congratulations on your summit and I look forward to your future adventures.
Thank you so much.. ☺️
Just got done with Ammo/Jewell. Cannot imagine doing this, much less alone. Major props!
Ammo and Jewell are beautiful :) I don’t think there is an ‘easy’ path up to Mt. Washington, props to you too! Thanks for watching! 💗
I've climbed Washington six times by nearly as many routes but never had the gumption to go up Huntington Ravine. Bravo!!
Thanks! It’s not as bad as it looks! 💗💗💗 Just wear good shoes! 😁 I’m wanting to get some approach shoes for scrambling.. The soles of my North Face hikers are way too soft.
Wow great hike and video Amanda. I love following your hikes. I stick to the smaller mountains now that I’m 76. Looking forward to your next video hike on❤️
Thank you so much Barbara!! 💗💗💗 You rock!!
Very nice footage! Thanks for sharing, and greetings from Canada!
Thanks!! 💗💗💗
A buddy and I hiked up this trail with full packs, back when I was in my 20s. It's a hike that I still remember 40 years later! Watching this video brought back a lot of memories, most of them scary! lol
😂 Well shoot! lol. Hopefully you had some fun moments mixed in. I guess it’s not the pinnacle of the Terrifying 25 for nothing! 😅
@@AmandaDouin It was a lot of fun! I was sure worn out by the time we got to the summit though! lol
Another great video Amanda. You did an amazing job. You can see your confidence building with every hike.
Thank you so much!!
Fantastic little video of the most amazing hike in the east after the Knife Edge on Katahdin. I grew up in NH and have hiked all over NE. Done at least 20 ascents of Huntington's Ravine; just a spectacular climb. Videography is solid. Thank you for sharing.
That’s impressive! Thanks for watching! 💗
You picked the perfect day. Live here in the valley. Been on a few carry-outs on that trail in the past. Great Video.
Yes it was perfect! Oh wow, that is admirable. Thank you!!
Great video. I did this last year and your video does a excellent job at showing the part above the slab, which most videos don't. Thank you for the footage, it is a wonderful hike if you have the right mindset for it.
Thanks for watching! It is 💗
Congrats - Huntington's Ravine is one beast of a hike ... you did great!
Thanks so much!!! It is a beast! 💗😅
I'm in my mid-seventies, been years since my hiking days, going up is a challenge, but I remember going down to be even more strenuous, besides using a completely different group of muscles...ya did well young lady, keep it happening! 🏔️💪✌️🤠
Great video - I found it to be informative to people like me that have never been hikers. You are strong, capable, and your video was great!
Be safe!
Solid hike! Looked a lot of fun! I went up Tuckermans when I did it, and down Boot Spurr b/c of weather conditions (snow). Huntington looked tough, thanks for sharing! 👍
Weather up there is no joke! It was a lot of fun and I was super glad to have the weather conditions I did. Thanks for watching!! 😁
Congratulations Amanda, great job! I'm a certified AMC Mountain Leadership Guide, and would highly recommend taking a hiking buddy for safety reasons on your next adventure! Enjoy nature and stay safe!
Thanks!! 💗💗💗
OMG..love it! Takes me back as I did a very similar trip a couple weeks ago. Huntington was an awesome challenge and the beauty of Tuckermans is breath taking! Keep on hiking Amanda!
Totally!! I already wanna go back!
Thanks for watching!! 😁
My grandfather hiked Mt. Washington twice about 90 years ago. I have never done it but now, thanks to you sharing this video, I can definitely say that he probably did NOT go up Huntington Ravine since he only had 1 leg! I was getting nervous, sweaty palms just watching some of what you had to climb over and around.
Aww.. 💗 Thanks for watching.. Summiting the mountain from any trail is a feat in itself. That’s impressive! Thank you for sharing.
Outstanding job! Well done! Thank you!! Took the Cog once in '90 when it was coal powered.
Thank you!! That is so cool! The train was fun to watch. 😁💗
I think you just inspired me to get back to the Whites and do this route. Great job and thanks for sharing.
Awesome!! Thank you, and thanks for watching!! 💗💗💗💪🏻 Happy Hiking!
Great hike, epic especially doing it solo, wow. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks!! 💗💗💗
What an amazing day to go up Huntington ravine! The camera angle made me feel like I was right there, and gave a good idea of how crazy steep it is. Thanks for bringing us along!
Thanks for watching! 💗💗💗
Great job and great video! Glad you got a great weather day for this!
Yess for sure! Thanks!! 😀
I had to watch your video again because I was so ah inspired on this threaderous journey you took solo. Wow. What a beautiful video, excellent job. Loved the outdoors all my life and wish I could be doing the things you're doing. Happy trails and stay safe. And your very pretty too.
Aww thank you for your kind words! Nature is amazing!! 💗💗💗☺️
Love these solo hiking vids. Just feels genuine
Aww I’m glad you liked it! Thanks for watching! 💗💗💗
Great job doing this trail and filming!
Thanks so much!! 💗💗💗
Great video. Very genuine work. You should be proud of yourself to do that hike solo. Thanks for sharing. We were N.H. natives and spent a lot of time camping and light hiking in the Whites. I only attempted Mt. Washington once but started too late in the day to do the full hike. Always wanted to get back to it but can only enjoy other peoples' hikes on UT thanks to hikers like you!
Thank you! Hopefully you can get back out there soon. 💗💗💗
Both your hike and video were beautifully done. They brought me back to when my nephew and I hiked this about 5 years ago. He was in high school and in great shape. I’m about 40 years older but kept up. Funniest part was across a rock face where he tried his own line above the marked one and got stuck. Bit of a panic but he managed to get across somehow.
Lots of great memories of The Rockpile from annual summits over the years
That’s awesome! Glad you and him had a safe trip.. there are def some tricky spots up there. Thank you!
And your expression of gratitude to God up near the top was the perfect icing on the cake. Be well🥰
I Say...Many Honors to You for that Hike up One of the Most Notorious Mountains there is!!
Southwest Germany waving a hand to this very handsome young Lady there. Happy Weekend from across the Pond 💯👍🙋♂
Waving right back at ya! Happy weekend, happy hiking!! 😀
Great hike, So beautiful landscape! Thanks for taking it with you.Definitely had a wonderful experience watching your videos.😉💖💖
The Presidential Range is a beautiful place! 😃 Thanks for watching!!
Gorgeous views. Impressive climb. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching! 💗💗💗
Nicely Done Congratulations Watching the video brought back many memories of having climbed Huntington's four times and by bad judgement went down once. I have enjoyed many of the trails on the mountain but this one is also my favorite. I liked that from the Tuckerman's Trail it is more of a footpath and also due to the difficulties a lot less people
Thanks!! Yeah, it feels more rugged and remote. Less traveled. I love also love that about it! 😀 Thanks for watching!
Great day for such an awesome hike. And that camera helmet is SO flattering! Thanks for the exciting video.
It was a great day! Haha.. I just mounted the GoPro to my climbing helmet. 😂 It works! Thanks for watching! 💗
You're truly incredible for doing this hike! This reminded me of hiking Katahdin in October of 2020 with the rock scrambling.
Thank you so much! I still haven’t done Katahdin… 🥹 I really want to though!! Did you do the knife edge? Is it as bad as they say???
@@AmandaDouin we did the saddle trail from chimney pond campground. Our base camp was in a lean-to which we hiked to on the first day and then sumitted the following. We didn't do the knife edge trail but I've always wanted to as well. Katahdin is no joke that's for sure, especially in October we had snow above and below the treeline. The rock scrambling was treacherous.
The SAI trails in your thumbnail sky are insane!!!
Wow. That looks so cool and sooo much fun!!
It was!! Thanks for checking it out ☺️😃
Haven't done Huntington yet but I do love me some scramblin'. You had a great day for it and really showed off the tough terrain well!
It was the most fun I’ve had in a long time!! Thank you so much!
One of my favorite hikes. Congratulations. I thanked god when I saw the first cairn too. 😅
💗💗💗
Thanks for taking me on a most beautiful hike with a most beautiful person!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I would be so lost. You did an excellent climb!
Thank you!! 💗💗💗
Hi Amanda, you are very brave. Thank you
💗💗💗
Beautiful, nice day to do it.
Beautiful landscape. I’m not all too far from there. Thanks for sharing.
💗💗💗
This is so awesome!! Finding a lot of inspiration in you!
💗💗💗 Just learning myself, but having fun doing it!! Thanks for watching!
EXCELLENT!!! Really enjoyed the video. Very impressive.
Thank you so much! Thanks for watching. 💗
Hiked Washington in 1996, parked at Pinkham Notch. It was in September, 75° and sunny when we left the car. Went up the Tuckerman Ravine trail. It was 42° and raining on the summit. None of us had rain gear, we were soaked. Pretty dumb to be so unprepared. God was with us for sure. Took the tram ride back down. It was $20 then.
Aww. The weather changes so fast up there, glad you made it back safe! ☺️💗
That was awesome! Now, I am inspired to be on Huntington Ravine Trail!
💗
Hike safe, happy hiking!
That is an impressive ascent for sure glad to see the weather held. Well done hike and filming plus that hair too 🤙
Thanks so much !! 💗💗💗
Done this hike and was thinking it was a bad idea. But done it and survived. I will say it again that you have a lot of moxie. Safe travels. Gary
Nice video. Thanks! I will not likely get there. Hiked up Mt. Wa but from Crawford Notch. Thanks for showing the legendary ravines in detail.
You seem to glide up the rock faces gently, I think many of us would find them very difficult and scary. Brava.
Thank you! It was my pleasure 💗 I’m trying to hone my scrambling skills, hoping to continue to get stronger. 😅 Thanks again for watching, and I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Your thumbnail worked! Well chosen, and great hike.
Oh thanks!! Haha. Thanks for watching!
I've hiked every range trail of the Presidentials. The best part is the start up when you see and read the infamous warning sign. As you can understand when it tells you if you're not prepared for it...turn back now!!!
Happy Trails😂
That’s awesome, good job! I love those warning signs!! Now If people would just consider them… 💗
Fun trail! Rock climbing in the Huntington Ravine area, we drove up the Auto Road and parked at the Alpine Garden trailhead. Hiked along the Alpine Garden trail then down the Huntington Ravine trail in order to rock climb in the ravine area. Met a lot of hikers ascending the trail. Such a fun downclimb! Cheers!!
That’s awesome! You’ve got skills! A beautiful area. 💗💗💗
Wow!! You're the man. No pund intended, but You're quite the lady. Looks like a bone breaking mountain with all those rocks. My sister and her husband to the cog railroad train up that mountain years ago. I believe that's the White Mountains in New Hampshire. Great video.
Thanks haha! Yes indeed. The White mountains are beautiful! 💗
Thank you for the inspiration and the warning!
Thanks for watching! Omg I’m from Snohomish County! Lived there for 30 years! I miss home and the North Cascades, but am embracing the beauty of the Northeast. 💗

Wow! You are one strong person. I will follow and subscribe. Thanks for the video. Dang. Much appreciated.
@RJGilman1967 Oh my goodness you’re too kind. 😅 Thanks! Some days are better than others. 💗 Appreciate you checking out my channel.
Great Huntington Ravine hike, Nice you posted it. I remember coming to rocks the size of a small house at the beginning of the ravine and I remember that last bit of scrambling over that flat rock, you brought it all back. I did a solo Loop Hike back in the 1990's, up Huntington Ravine, crossed the Alpine Garden trail (some flowers blooming by the little stream, it was late May/early June or so.) down The Raymond path...I took a shot of Jameson Irish whiskey on the Raymond Path--lol...it was all downhill to my tent site. Fun Adventurous times...
5 STARS!

Aww that’s awesome!! I should bring some victory beverage lol! Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching! 😀
Hiked washington 12 times. Huntington I found was the most dificult. You sure have balls hiking huntington alone. Gteat job editing..happy trails
Dang! That’s quite a lot. Thank you 💗
Happy Hiking!!
Calling this a "trail" is too generous! LOL
Great job with the hiking and the filming!

That was a fantastic project! Thank you so much for take us up Huntington.
What a beautiful experience you shared with us Amanda. Thanks again.
I know it was a long one so thanks for watching! It was so fun!! Def wanna go back!
I took great pleasure watching this video. TY
😃😃 thanks!
Thank You, for sharing this cool adventure!
I want to share a perspective, that caught me by surprise
...Caught me by surprise, a few years ago, and could have cost me 'my life'; Which could be similarly applied to a rock- scrambling scenario ~ 'alone' & 'exhausted' on a steep-grade of descent, in a wilderness setting.
I was climbing a magnolia tree, in my backyard, with a chainsaw on a rope, to trim some limbs, that were hanging over my house.
[Having been strong and athletic-enough, all my life, to do most any activity i wanted, YET NOW, even though i had experienced many joint injuries/surgeries, and in my late 60's, with a 'male ego', it just wasn't acceptable to think that i had 'limits' to what was reasonable.]
I was 'fine', climbing & cutting the limbs, only UNTIL i was ready to descend the tree, and was 'startled' to suddenly realize, that i had spent so much of my strength, that i was NOW So Weak, that i was 'bear-hugging' the tree, struggling to hold on, just to get down without falling.
Oh my goodness, I’m glad you’re ok. This is a very valid point during any hike. I make sure that I do not get to the point of no return. If I feel like I’m not going to be able to make the climb, I would turn around. I would have not gone the last mile to the summit of Wa if I felt my legs didn’t have the strength for the descent. Fortunately my legs felt great on this hike, a little tired during part of the final push on Hunt but I knew I was fine. I get the not wanting to turn around part though. I made this mistake during two different days my body was showing signs of heat exaustion and I almost didn’t make it back to my car. I learned my body better and now know the signs of when stopping and going back are a must. 💗💗💗 Thanks for taking the time to share your story. It takes humility to learn and grow, not only sharing success’ but also failure is part of that journey. Apppreciate you!!
Thank You, Amanda! Your response to my Comment was So Kind, and Thoughtful.
The reason i commented, was mostly to Remind You, that there are those of US, who share Your 'Passion' & 'Style' of hiking, especially for the 'rugged' boulder terrain [more so, than the green tunnel, and 'hostel/hotel hopping' (deli-blazing)]; Though We, for sundry reasons, Struggle to, or simply Can't, literally 'get out there', and Grasp the Boulders, Embrace the Challenges, See the 'new' Vistas, and take in Deep Breaths of Air above the treeline; YET We CAN/DO Celebrate and Enjoy Those of YOU, Who share Your Adventures with Us.
The Story, i shared with You, about being exhausted in a tree, with a chainsaw, was a real 'eye-opener' for me.
Many of Us were 'Created' by Christ Jesus, our 'Maker', with a very Resilient heart, mind & spirit to 'Continue' inspite of Losses and Struggles; However, my Personal circumstance, has progressively been in a declining state, for many years, which has brought me to a very Perplexing place ... Being a few months from 70 yrs old, and most 'Thankful' to Jesus Christ, my Loving Lord, for many Wonderful Adventures in This Life, Yet i/we Never want to Quit! ~ With the flip-side, of being in a quandary, as to what level of hiking is tolerable and reasonable, for me. I am determined to be as active as i can, for as long as i can; Like my Dad ('Shorty'), who (at 5' 2" tall) was still loading/delivering 26 bales of hay to a horse farm, when he was 75 yrs old. However, being realistic, about my own expectations, my Dad had not experienced nearly the number of surgical issues, as i have.
Just for a little parental background ~ Mom & Dad's spirits were SO characterized by STRENGTH & LOVE. (...Married for @ 62 years.) One of MOM's last statements to me (in her 80's), was something i had Never heard Her say. While in her hospital bed, She said, "Steve, I'm Tired." (She served her family and church faithfully, as a very strong, hard-working 'can-do' lady. As one of 13 children, in a family of 'dirt-poor' sharecroppers, she was picking 200 lbs of cotton/day, when only 16 yrs old.) ~ DAD was an airplane mechanic, in the navy, (stationed at Pearl Harber, during 'the war'). He dropped out of school and went to work with some lumberjacks, (as a middle-school aged boy) to help make money for the family, due to his dad's alcoholism/illness. i Never heard my Dad Complain about this Circumstance. When settling his estate, i came across a deed, inwhich he and his mother had put their money together to buy a place, for his alcoholic brother's family to live ~ Just to give You an idea, of His Character. He remarried at 89 (Can you imagine dropping your Dad off at a hotel, with a new Bride, at age 89? Ha!); And, at 90, the DMV renewed His dr. lic. for 5 more yrs, with no restrictions. He was hoping to be 100, though Conjestive Heart Failure eventually brought Him down. His last words to me, in the hospital, were, "I don't Want to be here, but I Need to be.
... They Never wanted to quit!
... TODAY ... Having had 6 months of Chemo (over 25 yrs ago now), which caused much loss of muscle tissue; Especially in my hands, seriously affecting my grip strength), a complete Mastectomy (leaving no stomach or pouch); As well as extensive dental work, which would furthur complicate hygiene on trail), 3 cervical disc surgeries, back surgery, spinal injections, 2 rotator-cuff surgeries, both bicep tendons torn, several damaged nerves, arthritis in my hands, weak previously- injured ankles, patella tendonitis, multiple eye surgeries, and more ... i'm like my truck ~ 'High Mileage' ~ Which i bought used, in 2004, and still driving it; Even after it has been 'totalled' and repaired twice!
ALL THAT to say this, that i feel like my body is so fragile, that it wouldn't take much, in a wilderness setting, to find myself in a miserable, if not 'life-threatening' circumstance.
My question to Experienced Hikers, as Yourself, would be ... Where should i draw my lines, when deciding on limitations?
Huntington Ravine is always a thrill 👏
Yess!
Beautiful hike. That was nicely done
Thank you! 😀💗
@@AmandaDouin you are welcome

New subscriber, I don't do much rock and mountain climbing anymore as Im 56, ... but do still woods hike or city walk 40 miles a week year round in Maine. Which you know Maine has beautiful hiking. Really enjoyed this video. Awesome job. I use a GoPro on my hikes also.
Aww thanks!!! That’s great exersice you’re getting, and the hikes are always beautiful in Maine. GoPro’s are lots of fun little devices! 💗💗💗
Wow.. I did that one back on 2006 and it was for sure a challenge.. and slower going than most trails without a doubt.. that warning sign wasn't there but they did try and discourage decending via Huntington in the AMC guidebook. I've only gone down that way one time when I was in my early 20's and daring..weather was great at least I was smart enough to consult the summit weather desk.. and in my 40's smarter and only go up that route LoL. Down after via Tuck's like you did is a lot smarter.. glad you had a nice hike and moreso a safe one ! I can't say much cause' I do tend to hike alone b/c of liking to go midweeks days but having a hiking buddy is also a good idea esp on more challenging ones.
Awesome! Good to hear your descent ended well and you made it down unscathed! I am trying to imagine how that would feel to climb in some of those sections with my body towards the rock, searching for the next good foot placement.. it seems like it would be a much longer going down than going up.. 😅 Thank you for your kind words!!
@@AmandaDouin It was a while back but remember a couple spots turned into a crabwalk.. that time my stepbrother was with me..we had to stop and contemplate the best way. it wasn't fun. Best to go down another route for sure. Ejoy your hiking and staye safe with it. :-)
That was cool… I drove up to peak due to time but would love that next time…
The drive is lovely 💗
Nice hiking video. Thanks for sharing. 👍38
A friend and I came down that trail once. His word for it was "gnarly".
😂 spot on
What makes it harder, and you cannot always anticipate the danger, is the decomposed granite, which can act like marbles or ice under your feet.
The composition, or decomposition of different type of rock is fascinating and an amazing point when placing foot hold and hand holds for sure. Thank you! Again - I am always trying to promote safety and while I do have a love for pushing myself, safety is always first.
Definitely dangerous. A friend of a friend I had died on Mt. Washington. Very sudden change in weather blew him right off the mountain.😲
I’m so sorry to hear that… so many tragic things happen while out in the elements doing what we love. My condolences. 💐
Smart to take the lollipop loop. The alternative trail all the way down Huntington Ravine is long, flat and very boring once you exit the steep trail. I respect this young women's athleticism. She worked hard to make this tough hike in one day...and luckily, no sudden storms above tree line. I've been caught in severe wind, rain, and hail with little warning on nice summer hikes. Pack light but smart. It can truly be life threatening where she travelled, and this point was overlooked in her video, but without words she's living proof of a strong, in-shape woman of character and soul.
Oh my goodness - thank you so much for your kind words. It was a great weather day thank God! It’s tricky in the Presidentials with weather though, I know. Side note - I was wearing a larger pack for this because I’m trying to strengthen for bigger hikes in the future. I should have touched on that more in the video. 😅 I try to include warnings and details around safety in my descriptions. I know it’s so important. Again - appreciate your kind words. 💗💗💗
Great video strong work

Chill looking scramble, well done video and good watch! Dont listen tk thw naysayers, there's absolutely nothing wrong with solo hiking. A lot of ny friends are really amazing women and men who do tons of solo hiking and climbing. There is an inherent increase in risk by solo hiking but be responsible for yourself and use sound judgment to the best of your ability out there and you'll be just fine. Theres risk in everything and as you progress more and more into the mountains there will be risks and dangers, thats this life, thats adventure. But YOU are an adventurer! Honestly some of my very best trips have been solo. Im talking setting camp at 3am, in the wind, on a tiny outcropping around 10,000' on my hood with a death fall below me in the vast empty, howling wind darkness. And then solo summiting the next morning, ice and snow climbing through the Pearly Gates, ive done this like 5 times and every time i think about it my heart soars.
You Are Doing Great. Be Safe and get out there as much as you can!
Also, join a climbing gym. So many skills translate and it will put you on thw correct path 🙏
Thank you so much for your kind words Brandan!! You are an inspiration. 💗💗💗
Beautiful ❤

Nice day and a beautiful woman 👩
🤔? They call that a trail❓ Where I come from we would call that a MISTAKE 😜❗️
OH YEAH , And that’s a really nice touch that they put that sign WAAAAAAY up there , AFTER you’ve already gone OVER & THROUGH ALL that other crap😂😂😂😂😂😂😂❗️
I know !! Haha! I think it’s so people done try to descend it.. but seriously. 😃😅 Thanks for watching!
Congratulations Amanda!! Awesome video!! Amazing footage and editing, great background music and commentary. You have a calming voice and charming personality. I subscribed!
I went up Tuckerman in April to the bowl/shelter, but I'm planning on doing my first summit via the Ammonoossuc/Jewel loop next month. Which trail did you do for your first summit? I'm also surprised how deserted the mountain was during this time of year.
Also, where did you buy that helmet? That would be perfect for my GoPro 11. (Very adorable selfie btw)
Aww thanks so much!! For my first summit I did Ammo - Jewel loop! Yeah Huntington Ravine isn’t very busy lol. The summit had more people but not bad. The helmet I got at REI, and the GoPro mount at Best Buy. :) Yeah I love how I can film and still have use of both hands haha. That trail is also legit and helmet worthy IMO. Thanks again!!! 💗 Hope your trek up the rock pile goes good, that loop is perfect.
You're right, that yellow marker was barely discernible. Pretty impressive effort on your part. Do you think to yourself at times during the hike 'Who were the first people to hike this?' Really nice job with your video. Fantastic narration, excellent editing.
Thanks so much! I do wonder about that sometimes for sure!! Haha. Thanks for watching 💗
Great vid, I ski'd the Tuck, with a friend of mine, got to be more than 30 years ago, then did a couple of days hiking. I've done a lot of solo scrambling, all over, Rockies, Alps, just like this vid. The one thing I always wear when scambling, especially on any scree slope, is a pair of leather gloves, the gloves allow you to instinctivley correct a fall/slip with limited damage. It's rather alarming how quickly your body shuts down, when you do something to your hands, and you quickly loose blood. Just sayin.
Good tip! Thank you!! I’m not a skier so that. Is. Impressive. 💗
