Captain Mike, I bought my first ever 6' cast net the other day, and I looked for how to videos. Yours was the first one I opened. I tried your method and bang! It worked like a charm! It felt so natural and intuitive. Thanks for a great tutorial!
I agree, I especially like that I don't have to put lead anywhere near my face. I was throwing pancakes in my front yard and then of course, couldn't get the net to open when i was in the boat... damn pogies were ramming into the side of the boat and I kept coming up empty.
Thank you! I have had an 8 foot, 3/8" mesh cast net for fifteen years and never used it. I watched your video and practiced your technique over the weekend and took the skiff out today to cast for shrimp. It worked! My casts are not 100% perfect, but the net opens 80% of the way 80% of the time -- good enough, and I am getting better -- and I occasionally get a perfect one. It is a great skill to have. Your video is much appreciated!
Super quick load, throws well, easy to remember, just taught my 16yo son with this method. About the best cast net video I have seen over the years. Thank you.
I’ve tried to learn to throw a cast net a few different times and a few different ways, and I just never got it. Plus I had very little success and couldn’t throw anything resembling a circle, so I gave up on the cast net. I watched this video today though and idk it just clicked, very simple process, thank you man caught my first thread fin in the cast net today and was thrilled
This is by far the easiest way to throw and fully open a 6 to 8 ft net. I’ve tried all possible ways and this is the best. The triple load method is complicated and requires tons of practice and only needed for 10 or 12 foot nets.
Bro, hands down, best technique for me. I've had my net for a little while and have caught a few bait. It has never really opened. Until l tried your technique. Thanks for the video.

Congratulations this FISHING was incredible, this place reminds me a lot here where I do FISHING in *Brazil.* Hug!!!👍🎣🐠😊
I actually thought l was going to have to go to academy cast net throwing training course. Thanks to Captain Mike it really works. I have read the instructions multiple times watch hundreds of videos and none worked. This is the method, works every time. I have even tried the other ways after learning this method and same results as before will not open. Thanks Captain Mike. Your way is the way.
This is by far the best net method I've seen and i would say it took about 5 throws to get it right. I was throwing my 8 footer in the park last week and a guy across the road came over and asked me how i was throwing it so well, he disappeared over to his boat parked in the yard and asked me to teach him with your method. Captain Mike, you are a legend.
Been throwing cast nets for over 40 years but still stuck on method taught by grandfather. Watched many vids and takes lots of free advice but nothing seems to make me better or faster. I've watched your vids on up to an 8' and have been practicing. Very nice and love throwing from right hand forward motion while watching bait. Thank you. I'm definitely going to subscribe and watch more vids Good education without the BS, moves along in at a good pace, I feel like I'm not 8 years old and the educators delivery doesn't confuse people. I watched the vid twice and was in the yard practicing. Thanks again and yes, I will keep watching.
Awesome technique! You don’t even look like you’re breaking a sweat. I’ve always admired how effortless you make it look. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I’m itching so bad and can’t wait to give it a try. Gracias!
I put your way to the test on an 8ft castnet. I compared it to another castnet method. Your method was faster loading and opened the net wider. I did it on a brad new net fresh out of the box and not smoking in fabric softener. Very smooth. I live in Indian River County and catching live bait is a must. The mullet run is coming up in September. I have been crushing tarpon at night on live mullet and greenies in the Fort Pierce Inlet area. Your videos are great and I have been recommending them to beginning anglers. Keep it up.
Thank you, Captain Mike. I have started catching a few mullet throwing a 4 foot cast net, but many bad throws and partial opens. I am going to practice you method, I think it is the best I've ever seen.
Great Video Captain Mike! Very clear video, great instruction, step-by-step. I've watched a lot of cast net how-to videos, but your version is the simplest and most clear method I have seen. Went into the front yard and tossed my 5ft net over 20 ft away in the most perfect circle! I was impressed. So much so, I had the confidence to go to the shop and buy a 7 ft net. Can't wait to show off at the boat ramp! Thanks Captain. Keep up the good work!
Great Video Sir! I can't wait to start practicing tomorrow. One thing I noticed after watching several times, you rotate your right hand from palm up to palm down when crossing your chest. This seems to give the net a little more torque to open and clearly throws the line out of your way to the left. You do this every time, probably without even thinking about it. Thx again for taking the time to teach us.
I've seen a lot of cast net videos and this one is by far superior. Personally, I have a 5' and use a different technique but I look forward to trying this out to see if I can make more reliable casts.
Super great, saw bunch of tutorials but when I followed your steps I casted sussessfully 4 times in a row. It never happened to me before. Great job. Thank you very much.
3 years on and off trying to cast my 9 ft net. Watched several videos, and still couldn’t throw the pancake. UNTIL CAPT MIKE. Gotta tell ya buddy watching your video did it for me. Retired and enjoying fl. Thank you so much. Terry
I've tried for two weeks to get my 6ft net to open. Finally I decided I needed to learn a different method. After loading the net like you showed me, it opened perfect! I was so happy that I took it to the creek and I got some really great catfish bait 👌 Thank you so much for making this video! It's the only reason I can get bait!
Mike! Started using your method a few weeks ago... Been throwing in my pool since. Was making 1 out of 5 good throws... driving my 😜Went back to your vid... figured out right away I was releasing too early... watched again and threw 9 out of 10 beauty’s. (Your SLO-mo’s are awesome!) I’m in my 70’s... so you can even teach an OLD dog new tricks. Great Channel.... Thanks!
Thank you! This is by far the best vid and technique to get a great spread. I watched a few prior with frustrating results. Take the time to do this step by step, then just throw it-perfection!
Captain Mike I just bought my first 8ft cast net. Prior to, never tossed a net. After watching both the step by step and seminar clips over and over, I gave it a try. In a day I was throwing oval, working towards pancakes. For me, the secret was in the secret sauce, took a bit to grasp the concept. You,ve done and excellent job in the tutorial. You officially make throwing a cast net easy for those who will stick with it.
Hands down the best video out there. I’d never thrown one before at all. Watched your video and convinced myself to buy one. Ten min in the backyard doing practice throws before I hit the water was all I needed to feel confident. This technique works awesome. Thanks so much
I have been throwing cast nets for over 35 yrs. This is the best way I have ever used a cast net bigger than 5 ft. I have 3 sizes. 5ft, 7ft, and 10ft. it works perfect.
Thank you for this tutorial. I have been searching and watching various ones, and after seeing different methods, yours appears to be the simplest and best. I haven't tested it yet. I plan to try throwing for the first time this weekend, after watching and internalizing this method over and over. Thank you for this thoughtful tutorial!
Smoothest, simplest, easiest how to video I've seen man, great job. All the cats I catch will be thanks to you. I'm fresh water so I catch catfish. I use shad, great cat bait. Thanks a bunch
Bro knows what he is doing.Ive tried this method after doing it my way for 25 years.I use to put it in my teeth and throw half the net over my shoulder. Now Ill use both ways.Thank you brother
Absolutely great video Captain Mike. Best way to throw a net I have ever seen and will definitely give it a try. Thank you. Keep up the great instructional videos. My favorite YT channel by far.
Ive watch a LOT of cast net how to's and by far yours is the best. I walked outside and threw it perfectly the first time. Thanks for taking the time to make the video.
Starting to teach myself how to fish salt water and starting from the beginning with catching bait, bought a cast net today, watched your video twice, and had 5 mullet on the first throw! Got a bucket full of bait in about 3 minutes and ready to surf fish tonight! Thank you for the awesome tutorial video brother!
Probably the best cast net instructional video I’ve seen for that size cast net. And I’ve seen them all. The mullet in the video did their part too. Great vid Capt Mike
How are you good friends. I never used a Cast Net in my life but I want to buy one. Which size must i buy between the four feet, five feet and six feet. Are the five feet and six feet Cast Net good for fishing or the six feet is the best? Thank you in advance
I was away from salt fishing for a while so my net was just collecting dust. When I finally went back out I forgot the proper technique so the net wouldn't open half the time. This was an awesome tutorial. Thanks for taking the time.
Amazing! I've been trying occasionally for the last year to throw my cast net without success. After watching your video, I can make a perfect circle cast everytime. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Hi Mike, I have a 8th footer net since 1993 and I have never learned how to use it, l admit that I have been frustrated with my fishing experience but this is all about patience and leaning techniques from the best and you have a great method for casting,, I casted three times and I had two pancakes, not pretty but it was a circle, and I am practicing in my backyard, thanks again, a I want to learn surf fishing to catch Pampanga, whiting and whatever is good eating, then pier and finally fishing from a boat. Thank you for this very simple and effective cast net video I learned to toss my net perfectly in about 15 minutes the other guys had me so confused I almost gave up I can’t wait to view more of your stuff
Thank you for showing me how to throw a cast net. I just moved to Florida and i watch you youtube channel all the time. Looking forward to surf fishing
Ok, tried the method twice on my lawn which is backed up against a lake here in central Florida. The first couple of tries in the grass went perfect. Moved over to give it a shot off my dock. Had a nice throw and to my surprise pulled up a 15" Largemouth bass. I can testify that the technique works great. Thanks for the video!
I just wanted to tell you thank you so much for showing the most understandable throw net video I’ve ever seen. I’m smoking bait now. Thank you so much !!!

I just ordered one of your shirts too, I’ll get a hat too if you ever offer fitted hats! Thanks Capt. Mike!
Great and easiest throwing method I've seen. Saw this same method from an Aussie guy years ago. You can throw a net from a sitting position in a kayak without much trouble using this method. Works great!! The net weights do the work for you.
South Florida native, Been throwing my net the exact same way since I was 6. Always would be soaked in min but constant pancakes lol I found this video a week ago and decided to switch it up, pancake after pancake boys and not soaked at all. Moray don't show the technique as clear as you. You make it simple and easy. Got 5 days in marathon key in about 2 weeks. Looking forward to filling the bait bucket!
Your video looks and sounds like you are in the Sates, somewhere, I'm in Qld Australia. Even though this Video is 3 years old the method (obviously) still works. I have never picked up a Cast Net let alone thrown one, your videos are encouraging and I feel I should give it a go. Nice. My buddy got me using a cast net two years ago. I watched several videos and tried many times. I just could not get it right. This video showed the easiest by for. I tried it with my 7 foot net. A good cast every time. Thank you for keeping it simple.
first time throwing a net, watched your video which happens to be the most detailed yet easiest to understand on youtube and on the first three tries all pancakes. thank you for the video
Thanks Capt Mike. I really appreciate your instructions on how to cast a net. I watched your video and my confidence began rise immediately. I had never cast a net ever. Now, I feel pretty confident when casting my seven footer. I continue to practice each step to ensure my net opens on every cast. Thanks again Sel
Watched a plethora of vids on throwing cast nets. This is by far the best. In Texas, the max legal radius is 7FT so instructions perfect for me. thanks!
Excellent technique. I tried several other ways from videos. Should have seen the smile on my face when this one worked the FIRST time! Liked and subscribed! Thank You! Just came back for a refresher course. Love this video!
Bro. Thank you so much for this method. Makes it so easy. I wasn’t able to get it to open any other way and the third cast I threw with this method got me a full open. And I’ve thrown it 6 more times after watching and every time worked.
Wow! Awsome. I've sent this to my husband's ph. He just got his net. Needs to learn this. Catching grasshoppers for chickens and lake fishing in western Colorado. Thanks, dude! New sub here!!!
Nice video, well explained and demonstrated. The fact that there were nice mullet busting right when you needed to demonstrate that throw is outstanding. Nice job, thank you.
THANK YOU!!!! This is the Best I've seen and effectively used. I'm new to the Cast Net game and I'm killin' it in the Gulf. I'm from Jersey and I've only fished for less than two years and people ask me, "How do you do that???" And I tell them that I got the technique from ReelReports on TH-cam!

Nice. My buddy got me using a cast net two years ago. I watched several videos and tried many times. I just could not get it right. This video showed the easiest by for. I tried it with my 7 foot net. A good cast every time. Thank you for keeping it simple.
What size cast net is in your bucket and what bait are you catching?
Throwing an 8 foot and catching mostly fingerling mullet and menhaden.
ReelReports 12 feet ..thanks so much . I am new to this .wish me good luck.

Thanks Capt Mike. I really appreciate your instructions on how to cast a net. I watched your video and my confidence began rise immediately. I had never cast a net ever. Now, I feel pretty confident when casting my seven footer. I continue to practice each step to ensure my net opens on every cast.
Thanks again

Best cast net video on TH-cam. Right to the point and you caught bait.
As always great video Cpt. Mike that sure beat the way I was taught. I will be trying that out next time I go.
Keep up the great work.
Hi..
Watched a plethora of vids on throwing cast nets. This is by far the best. In Texas, the max legal radius is 7FT so instructions perfect for me. thanks!
This helped quite a bit with me knowing nothing about saltwater fishing and I’m going on my first trip for my 16 birthday so this is priceless

Great video Capt Mike, your good karma was evident on the mullet timing!

Just bought my first cast net now living in TX after moving from PA. Looking forward to trying this method out tomorrow at the coast!

Wow! Awsome. I've sent this to my husband's ph. He just got his net. Needs to learn this. Catching grasshoppers for chickens and lake fishing in western Colorado. Thanks, dude! New sub here!!!
Literally awesome tutorial, however it simply led to me just catching more algae 😢😢😢😅😅
Great technique.
I am going to start practicing with my unused cast net today.
Cheers.
@6:24 obviously those fish were planted there and are actors.
