I'd be honored if some 90s fans would take a quick listen to my acoustic piano & vocal YT performances of LONG DECEMBER by the Counting Crows th-cam.com/video/Aq0m-3ykuDM/w-d-xo.html and "1979" by the Smashing Pumpkins in tribute to 2 great standards of the mid/late 90s era. I *LOVE* Anna Begins. And have such great memories of the summer vacation I was on when I first heard it (& listened to it - and the whole album- multiple times each day.
@@steelhead197Agreed!! I hadn’t listened for a while but just a couple of weeks ago realized how long it had been and now it’s back in my daily rotation 🥰

when I first discovered long December I was driving home from college on my first Christmas break. My dad was going through chemo at the time, and getting beat to hell. So the line "The smell of hospitals in winter." always hit me hard. Fast forward ten years my mom has an aneurysm, I spend the last ten days in ICU. That line hits even harder now. Thank you.
A Long December breaks me in half. When that song was at its peak I heard it three times on the radio racing to the hospital the night my grandfather died - Early January 1997. I have to be in a special mood to listen again.
@@jasonmiradoli8900 Oh yeah I've seen it. I'm from the Seattle area and he's kinda a big deal around here, but only discovered him because of that live version. He lives that song.
I'm shocked he isn't huge like his friend Phoebe. I found him thru her in the lockdown. I love The Sound, both the album version & stripped down at the piano with phoebe and Abby, w The Killer. Saw him in Brooklyn, NY in 500 capacity venue 2 months ago. Hope he breaks out. @@Levelity
This song meant so much to me and my wife... I was in Iraq, and we were told I would be home by the end of December. You can never trust the Army. But my wife and I listened to this song often knowing how much longer December was to us. I was home in time to celebrate Christmas with my family. This song will always mean so much more to me than you know. Thank you for writhing this song for us.
This song is perfectly evocative. Every December this song is in rotation at my house. Great song that allows you to reflect, but also wistfully embrace the future.
I believe it. There is something special about Long December. It impacted me a long time ago, and has come back to me as have been dealing with a serious relationship issue. Thanks Adam.
The song remids me of my life in California in the 1980s traveling back to las Vegas and back to los Angeles life in California was nice back in the 1970s and 1980s.
It's a perfectly imperfect song with just enough vagueness and the right structure to carry the feelings along with giving you the rise up at the end that makes you feel redeemed as it closes. *chefs kiss*
such a beautiful song it hits you hard now that I'm older December does take forever and then bang here comes the new year and yes hopefully this year will be better than the last thank you for that song😊
By far, one of the greatest bands of all time! I am blessed to have met this man, and he is absolutely incredible. This song actually got me through. A really horrible december way back in nineteen ninety nine I ended up in the hospital for a significant period of time and I had been listening to that 14 quite some time even at that point. That song really hit home for me. I had the opportunity to express that to adam in person about fifteen years later. They say that you "don't want to meet your heroes". I was actually talking about him last night on my channel, and this popped up today. I was pointing out how phenomenal it was to actually meet Adam. It was quite a few years ago, but I finally got my chance to meet the man. They have been one of my favorite artistic groups for over twenty-five years. He just seems like one of the kindest humans out there....
This man does not age and we never get tired of long December either ❤ in fact, I never get tired of August and Everything After. Whole entire album is on repeat forevermore.
I was a little kid when this song released, but the sound and colors of the music video really bring back that nostalgia. lol Spin Doctors are a cool band though and pretty underrated.
That is an awesome song!!! Well done sir!!! Just got chills singing the start of the last verse in my head! "Drove up to hillside manor sometime after 2a.m."" Wow!! What a classic and beautiful piece of music. In fact I'm going to listen to it right now!!!
There's something about A Long December that, when performed live, just feels so perfect. It sounds better live than on the album. I'm happy that I've been able to see Counting Crows perform it live.
Timeless. My favorite to sing along with. Especially in my car, especially at night. Was a favorite when it came out in HS and more meaning during Covid when Adam played the piano and sang it on Jimmy Kimmel. Then again when my mother took her last breath on December 13th 6 years ago. ❤
I remember I was 12 when it came out, liked it, didn't love it. But now I appreciate it more and I play and sing it on guitar for my young daughter, and I dunno man but it's magical. "I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower" is so spot on, it's lyrically genius not just catchy.
I learned to play it on the piano. It was very difficult for me, but I didn't get tired of it either. I always get tired and frustrated with songs that I'm learning, but that one was different to me. How satisfying to find this video.
It's a song about hope despite despair.

Anna Begins and A Long December are 2 of the most AMAZING songs ever written.
That whole August and Everything After is a work of art!! ☺️

Yeah, by them or anyone
I think about this song all my life.
agree 🤘
Why do you say that I'm really curious?
I agree with you about Long December. It just hits me in the heart. Thank you
Hits me in the heart, too!
Yeah me too, cried when I heard this song.
He never gets tired of playing it and I never get tired of listening to it.

A long December is a perfect song
I do not know either. But i always happy to hear long december.
It's one of the few songs I never get tired of either.
Its so atmospheric and anthemic
“Something perfect…something timeless about that song.” Yep, Adam, that just about sums it up for me too.
Round here is very emotional, and I imagine pulling that out of yourself in a genuine way, regularly, would be taxing.
Check out Noah Gundersen's version. He starts out by saying, "this is the song that made me want to write songs." Perfect cover of a perfect song.

I think it *is* the best song he’s ever written, and he set a *very* high bar for himself over those first three albums.
One of the best songs for sure

So true … it’s absolute perfection 💕
One of my ❤favorite songs. Just listened to it yesterday 🎉
I love the song too.. I play it on my acoustic when I’m in that melancholic, somber mood. The melody over the chords just puts you in a certain place.
