What do you have to do to set up a different engine aside from motor mounts and such as that, what computer work needs to be done? starting my first project. really hoping you can get back to me on this!
you need to get good at reading wiring diagrams and understanding pinouts. this will pretty much guide you through the non mechanical portions of your build. but you also have to meet the drive train and suspension requirements needed to install such said equipment. here is a really helpful website to get you started www.autoshop101.com/
@@ModdedGarage Honestly everything I think this is super sick I’ve been doing my research to get the engine but I know there’s more to it like tunes and other stuff
did you have to build a trans housing to convert to rwd? or is there room to avoid cutting the frame? I think I could run an axle back there if I rearrange my exhaust. I want a mad max style vented straight out the hood, but clean ya know
the scion tc is also called the caldina in japan, and the avensis in europe. while the japanese counterpart called the caldina came in a version identified as the st246w (gt4) it was awd. and in turn used a transverse transmission with a center differential that sends power to the rear wheels via a rather long driveshaft. so no tunnel provision was ever provided to house a decent sized rwd transmission. i had to cut out the center tunnel and fabricate an all new tunnel in order to accommodate nissan transmission i used for the v8. this also allowed me to have a full exhaust. previously when i had the AWD and turbo system from a gt4 installed there was no room for an exhaust as the tunnel was still too small. i also had a side exit exhaust and it was loud as hell and smelled horrible all of the time while driving. i don't recommend it unless your car is a drag car.

Damn, on a first gen, too? Must suck trying to find tires big enough to track that also fit well. 25" diameter limit is gonna be a bitch if you ever wanna run it down the 1/8th or 1/4 mile.
You think a 4g63 would be hard to fit in a 07 tc? My brother blew his engine and is trying to make the tc a project car cuz not so many people do it. If not what other engines do you recommend ?
so yes you can. however mounting a motor from a completely different make, like i did with the honda block in the festiva is a bit of work. you will have to adapt the mounts, orient the motor correctly so that it doesn't have any axle issues (both cv and input shaft) also you will have to deal with he exhaust, how to make the axles fit the knuckles because it is highly unlikely the spline count or diameter is anywhere close to the toyota spline input pattern. if i were to do this type of a conversion today with a 4 cylinder fwd configuration just for ease of install for any power output i would pick a 3sgte. 90% the same transmission bolt pattern as the tc uses a compatible clutch system, and can be relatively easily wired in (give you have experience doing so) and then i would run an aftermarket ems to manage the engine. the 3sgte is easily capable of decent power and has a factory proven turbo system already built into it.

yes as afar as i know my insurance company didn't care... i called them up and asked "hey so if i put a v8 into my car will this effect my coverage" the answer was no.
i got a stock scion tc 2005 with no problems, im 17 and im planning to do my first modifications to my car, i was thinking window tint to start. Do you have any recommendations for the first couple mods to do to my car?
depends on your parts choices. engine choices. drivetrain choices. boosting my tc then doing the awd setup had to have cost like 3-10k easily... my major regret was using the 2azfe. for me it was a bad choice and im not saying that for everyone else fyi.
Curious... do you think the same could be done to the tc2, the 2014-15 tc model year ? I am the owner of one and want to do literally the same with the 1uz swap
the same could basically be done to any car, reason is i had to cut the tunnel out and weld in a new larger one that i fabricated. the tc1 is an AWD frame so it is strong enough that i didnt have to worry about the unibody twisting or doing odd things under the stress of converting it. im not so sure about the tc2
Modded Garage I’ll look into it then, because I believe that Fredric Aasbo used the tc2 as his drift car before the corolla but idk if they altered the frame to achieve the same as far as not holding up to the stress
Unfortunately i dont really know. I didnt even really look at how the tc1 cars were done for formula drift. I just kinda built it over time and planned it out. I hope you try and wosh you luck.
fast is a matter of opinion usually, but with enough money anything can be made fast. i would start with any vehicle that has a crackable or tuneable ecu. or you may end up spending x extra for an ems or management system just to run any addons or modifications you choose to install. secondly i did this because the cost of rebuilding or boosting my 4 cylinder in my tc was far more than just finding this v8 and doing all of the work. hell even the tools i purchased i would put into the 1k mark and with all of the parts excluding the chasis the conversion itself since i did the work cost me 2500usd. that's still cheaper than most good turbo setups and for just a stroker kit itself on the 2.4 2azfe. so do your research most of all. none of these major projects are bolt-ons and while yes it was absolutely worth the labor and cost. i would say learning what you are capable of as builder is what you need to reflect on. so good luck and safe wrenching!
In no way am i trying to keep you from doing anything you want. Just learn what you need to accomplish it. Anything you can see a shop doing you can generally learn how to do. The equipment and materials however are a different story haha
The scion actually has a wider bay than the lexus. It's Depth is the problem I had to move the radiator into the space where the front bumper support is.
with money, planning, tools, patience, and fabrication it can be done. if you have only one of those things it may be hard. also pay attention to if you need to pass emissions where you live
i struggled with this, i did in fact boost my four cylinder. did a full 2azfe build. cometic headgasket, je pistons, carillo h beam rods, acl race bearings mains and conrod, brian crower turbo camshafts, springs, titanium retainers, 20g turbo. the thing that killed me... is that all of that cost and effort, and yes if you watch my other video about my tc it will show you. as i even did FWD TURBO, AWD TURBO, THEN RWD V8. the power output would have been about the same as the 400 dollar 1uzfe (lexus v8) with about 5-600 dollars in aftermarket parts and a turbo. the v8 i put in with headstuds.... can make upwards of 850-900hp with boost. boost faster...perform better and have less issues. the reality of chasing the power beast is that pride gets in the way. and let me say that there are plenty of high hp 4 banger builds. but for the same power and more reliably in fact a v8 can make it faster and with less issues. guys always brag about beating a v8 with a turbo 4 cylinder....but fail to be realistic about the fact that if that v8 had the same mods.....and was pro charged or turbo charged, that same car would be eating its ass. look up world records for hp and quarter mile times...you will always find a straight 6 or a v8. chasing power is a choice of cost and reality. if you plan to get max 400...boost it. it you dont know but want to go nuts. swap it. i was actually angry that the v8 swap and all of the parts cost a 3rd of what the turbo setup and built engine cost me. think on that....and make the decision that best fits you. also dont give a shit what other people think of your decision. nobody is every going to agree or be happy with what you do 100% but if you make good choices the right people will.
its from a 2017 ford mustang. you have to cut up your front bumper a lot in order to install this. and it isn't a direct fit at all. so beware if you attempt this and it turns out however it turns out it isnt my fault lol.
😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱I have nothing to do with this and I’m already excited to see how it turns out!!!!! Boosted v8 @ around 3000lbs 😂🤣😂😂😂 What was the cost for you to get it to this point and what do you think it would cost to pay someone to do it?
Not boosted yet lol. It cost 2500usd and 8 months of work 6 hours a day after work, and most of the day on weekends. So that in whatever it would cost for a speed shop to do that as hourly labor. Doing the work really makes these projects attainable.
well i got these about 5 years ago? i did an ebay search and found nothing as well. kind of crazy the things we take for granted... even cheap things. if i spot them again i will post it up here for you.
hello i live in oregon also where you have your workshop i would like to go to know this scion tc i have one 05 tc also see what you recommend me to serve you
How much did this whole build cost!? I wanna do something like this on my gen2 tc, but scionlife forum doesn't have anything to informative and I don't know where to start.
my tc had a 1uzfe in it, i want to put a 5.7 hemi in it. i have the hemi and a tr6060. but its a full rebuild from the bottom end up on both the motor and transmission.
its so hard to work with these cars , almost no aftermarket support and having to do all the work yourself bc there's no good answers on reddit or google
well they had their hayday and not they are older Toyota's with little to no interest. Even when I had my car back when it was newer I made most of my own stuff. Kind of the problem with a dead brand.

It was 2500 usd but because i didnt all of the suspension chassis subframe and tunnel work (everything) myself.
An ls1 would be pretty sweet.
What kind of engine did you put brand? Did you changed transmission too?
it is a lexus 1uzfe and the transmission was from a 1990 300zx
Curious... do you think the same could be done to the tc2, the 2014-15 tc model year ?
Where did u get those see mirrors
the mirrors were an ebay purchase, another user here asked about them we searched at the time they were no longer available.
Where did you get the spoiler from
It is a universal duck bill I got off marketplace.
Hey man, so I’m looking to buy a Scion tC 2nd gen but I want to make it fast if I do which I kno will be difficult… any tips??
fast is a matter of opinion usually, but with enough money anything can be made fast. i would start with any vehicle that has a crackable or tuneable ecu. or you may end up spending x extra for an ems or management system just to run any addons or modifications you choose to install.
secondly i did this because the cost of rebuilding or boosting my 4 cylinder in my tc was far more than just finding this v8 and doing all of the work. hell even the tools i purchased i would put into the 1k mark and with all of the parts excluding the chasis the conversion itself since i did the work cost me 2500usd. that's still cheaper than most good turbo setups and for just a stroker kit itself on the 2.4 2azfe.
so do your research most of all. none of these major projects are bolt-ons and while yes it was absolutely worth the labor and cost. i would say learning what you are capable of as builder is what you need to reflect on.
so good luck and safe wrenching!
@@ModdedGarage touché man touché. U got a point there. I love the way the tc looks but you’re right it’s not gonna be easy to modify it
In no way am i trying to keep you from doing anything you want.
Just learn what you need to accomplish it.
Anything you can see a shop doing you can generally learn how to do.
The equipment and materials however are a different story haha
Bro that's a fricken lexus v8 I can't Believe it fits in the small engine bay of the tc wholey crap
The scion actually has a wider bay than the lexus. It's Depth is the problem I had to move the radiator into the space where the front bumper support is.
This is sick.
Can your V8 be put into a 2011 Scion tC or is it better to turbo it?
with money, planning, tools, patience, and fabrication it can be done. if you have only one of those things it may be hard. also pay attention to if you need to pass emissions where you live
Modded Garage how much money and time? I’m going to look for shop recommendations in the meantime to do it for Me
I am not a mechanic
i paid (not including car cost) 2500 for the conversion. but i did all of the work. welding building etc.
Modded Garage What about your opinion on swapping for a V8 vs turboing the stock tC engine?
Accounting for similar output on each option
i struggled with this, i did in fact boost my four cylinder. did a full 2azfe build. cometic headgasket, je pistons, carillo h beam rods, acl race bearings mains and conrod, brian crower turbo camshafts, springs, titanium retainers, 20g turbo.
the thing that killed me... is that all of that cost and effort, and yes if you watch my other video about my tc it will show you. as i even did FWD TURBO, AWD TURBO, THEN RWD V8. the power output would have been about the same as the 400 dollar 1uzfe (lexus v8) with about 5-600 dollars in aftermarket parts and a turbo.
the v8 i put in with headstuds.... can make upwards of 850-900hp with boost. boost faster...perform better and have less issues.
the reality of chasing the power beast is that pride gets in the way. and let me say that there are plenty of high hp 4 banger builds. but for the same power and more reliably in fact a v8 can make it faster and with less issues.
guys always brag about beating a v8 with a turbo 4 cylinder....but fail to be realistic about the fact that if that v8 had the same mods.....and was pro charged or turbo charged, that same car would be eating its ass.
look up world records for hp and quarter mile times...you will always find a straight 6 or a v8.
chasing power is a choice of cost and reality. if you plan to get max 400...boost it. it you dont know but want to go nuts. swap it. i was actually angry that the v8 swap and all of the parts cost a 3rd of what the turbo setup and built engine cost me.
think on that....and make the decision that best fits you. also dont give a shit what other people think of your decision. nobody is every going to agree or be happy with what you do 100% but if you make good choices the right people will.
bro do a update on it i want to see the progress
Appearance wise what have you done
i honestly dont understand the question.
What’s the name of your front Splitter
its from a 2017 ford mustang. you have to cut up your front bumper a lot in order to install this. and it isn't a direct fit at all. so beware if you attempt this and it turns out however it turns out it isnt my fault lol.
😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱I have nothing to do with this and I’m already excited to see how it turns out!!!!! Boosted v8 @ around 3000lbs 😂🤣😂😂😂
What was the cost for you to get it to this point and what do you think it would cost to pay someone to do it?
Not boosted yet lol. It cost 2500usd and 8 months of work 6 hours a day after work, and most of the day on weekends. So that in whatever it would cost for a speed shop to do that as hourly labor.
Doing the work really makes these projects attainable.
Modded Garage 😱😭😱😭😱😭😱😭😱
Ik this was a year ago but bro... where the heck can I find them side mirrors!!! 😫 pls I must find them
ebay? they are pretty cheap
someone destroyed my stock one and a friend had these ebay ones.
@@ModdedGarage do you happen to know the name of that style? because when i search for them they all say that it wont fit my 07 tc
well i got these about 5 years ago? i did an ebay search and found nothing as well. kind of crazy the things we take for granted... even cheap things.
if i spot them again i will post it up here for you.
@@ModdedGarage thank you and i appreciate you for helping btw you got sick content!
Where did you get the spoiler?

What rear did you use?
How much did this whole build cost!? I wanna do something like this on my gen2 tc, but scionlife forum doesn't have anything to informative and I don't know where to start.
my whole build is on scionlife. it cost 2500 usd
@@ModdedGarage anyway you can link it to me. I'm having trouble finding it.
i can? thank you!
@@ModdedGarage bro that’s not bad
What type of engine is it
non vvti 1uzfe.
Bro what you running? How I want my tc like this
my tc had a 1uzfe in it, i want to put a 5.7 hemi in it. i have the hemi and a tr6060. but its a full rebuild from the bottom end up on both the motor and transmission.
Any info on the sick side mirrors?
ebay!!!!!
its so hard to work with these cars , almost no aftermarket support and having to do all the work yourself bc there's no good answers on reddit or google
well they had their hayday and not they are older Toyota's with little to no interest.
Even when I had my car back when it was newer I made most of my own stuff. Kind of the problem with a dead brand.
