  • Our neighbors blessed us with a bunch of pears so Josie decided to make some pear butter since we had canned pears in the storage area. I must say it turned out really great! The pear butter still has the pear grittiness but on a piece of toast we never noticed it at all. Find the recipe below she used!
First recipe is the one we liked best!
Recipe in roasting pan - this is the basic recipe that I multiplied by 5:
3 lbs. pears (after peeling and coring)
    1/4 cup water
    1 cup brown sugar
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1/4 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1/8 tsp. allspice
    1/8 tsp. clove
Combine all ingredients in roaster and cook 3-4 hours or until tender. Puree in a food processor or with a blender. Continue cooking until desired thickness and liquid is gone - probably 8-10 hours. Hot water bath in sterile pint jars for 10 minutes.
Recipe in crock pot - this is the basic recipe that I multiplied by 3:
2 1/2 lbs. pears (after peeling and coring)
1/4 cup water (I think you could use less)
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    3 T brown sugar
    2 T orange juice
    2 strips of orange peel
Combine all ingredients in crockpot and cook 3-4 hours or until tender. Remove orange peel and puree in food processor or with a blender. Continue cooking until desired thickness and liquid is gone - probably 8-10 hours. Hot water bath in sterile pint jars for 10 minues.

Apple butter is just about my favorite thing on the planet, so I can only imagine how wonderful this pear butter is! Amazing. I think that I would also prefer the one without the orange. Great video! 💚

We love to make pear butter it’s something we’ve been doing for years along with apple butter it makes such great Christmas gifts and is delicious with biscuits. I do mine in the roasting pan as well. Your house will smell like fall I love it. I usually cook mine down until it’s nice and dark brown. Great job my friends. Would love to have you join our #LetsCan collaboration if you have time. Blessings my friends

Morris Patch of Heaven homestead - pear butter is delicious and I’m happy with how my first batch turned out! What do I need to do for the collaboration? I’ve already recorded a lot of canning videos but I’ve got one in mind. Just let me know what it entails. 😊 Thank you!

Mimsy’s Garden - that’s awesome! I would be interested in your recipe. Does yours have a spicy base with clove, cinnamon, etc?

Stacie’s Country Cooking & Adventures - just curious, does your recipe have the spices of cinnamon, clove, etc.? The other recipe is good but it just doesn’t have the zip and zing of the one that taste like apple butter. Have a good week Stacie!

I bet that is so tasty. The color turned out beautiful. That's a good job done Josie. I've found that I am very aware of citrus. It's very strong to me.

The House on Avera Road - it’s very tasty. The one with orange flavor doesn’t have as much “zing” and seems a little bland to us. I may try combining some from each batch and see what happens. 😊

Crock pot setting is low or high? Thanks

Thanks for question. Cook a couple hours on high and then the rest of time on low. Good luck with your butter!

If you cook your fruit without the sugar you will see that the flesh will naturally fall apart and become a sauce. Then you can add the sugar and cook it down more and you won't have to use a blender. Same for apple sauce!

I see pear butter everwhere. Beginning to think I know here the squirrels took our pears.😂

Ernie Hatmaker - hahahahaha, that happened with our peaches. A tree full of fruit one day and nothing but peach pits on the ground the next! Dang squirrels 😏

You never need to add water or any fluids because these pears make a ton of liquid.
