Nice title. I might have have shortened it, though. For example: "....Using Kurt's Card Care Is Not Smart..."
Also...and this will only make sense to those who watched the video where the guy was bragging...It''s gooone, the suminabich is gooone, that cert number is gooooone.

I wish collectors who alter a card and sell it without telling the potential buyer would understand that this is fraud. Ask Bill Mastro and Doug Allen about it.

If "altering " the card makes it a better card, why is that an issue? If condition is the issue and now the card is actually in better condition why is that an issue???

@@genelawrence4939This is a very legitimate question. Think about it.
Many pieces of art are cleaned and the proper things needed to reproduce the paints and colors used are obtained and meticulously configured to fix small things for preservation of the work.
Now, I do understand many of these vintage cards aren't singular works...but they're definitely scarce in any condition above mid grade.
I can completely understand why one would want to get a card of significant merit closer to its original state than it was if possible.
But...I ALSO understand why having this work done affects the remainder of known cards in the market and gives someone a leg up over peers holding the same item
In ANY case ....it is indeed stupid to brag about it being done or doing it.

@@genelawrence4939 Excellent question and comes down to ethics and the law. Altering a card for your own personal use is fine until the collector decides to sell it without disclosing the alteration. It is considered fraud under the law and people have gone to prison for it. You might have good intentions and say the card has been conserved, but eventually all cards end up on the market one way or another without that knowledge of an alteration. This is also true for the antique car and art market.

The bragging about getting cards past psa reminds me of a reddit post this past week. Someone posted that they got a gold parallel of aaron judge’s rookie that was mis-listed on ebay for insanely cheap. They waited till the card was shipped before they posted their luck. A day or two later they posted an update where the people who sent the account messaged saying they made a mistake and re-routed the card back to them and said they would send out the correct card if the purchaser was still interested. If they would’ve not posted they probably would’ve gotten the card.

Ive said it many times, a LPT of small to large companies have employees and even departments that handle all social media related issues and watch their brands closely.
Soaking cards, images, art, cardboard for cleaning, restoration is older than any grading company.

I am a Hawkeyes fan so I took a shot and bought one case and liked the value so much I bought another. 6 packs, 4 cards per pack. $37. For the Panini Select, $875 is $14.58 per card. PSA certs. The hidden crease is what gets everyone's attention. That is a way different situation than some dirt and grime removed. So the hidden crease makes this different than a normal cleaning.
You know it would be rally sneaky to just post a PSA slab one day and claim it has been cleaned but has a hidden crease. Most of these slabs are just floating around between owners for months or years. Someone screws you over on an ebay deal? Just report to PSA it's a cleaned card inside the slab with a hidden crease. Put it on social media. Demand justice. I think the hidden crease in the card irks PSA more than anything. That is taboo in the world of the hobby. Questions remain - how many slabbed PSA cards have hidden creases? How can they miss something like this? And the biggie: how would the PSA guarantee worked in this situation if someone had purchased the slab and then found out about the hidden crease that PSA missed?
PSA technology that can detect previously graded cards? It is working perfectly. Keep resubmitting those PSA 9 slabs bc it makes them a ton of money. The first time PSA's technology kicks some card back will be the end of re-submissions. Word like that gets out quickly, especially on social media, especially when money is lost. And a financial windfall of regrading cards will be gone. I don't expect PSA to complain about regrading cards. Their tech is working fine.
The problem with people posting on social media is the population of people we are talking about. Many of these people have compulsion habits (which works well with busting packs). Their compulsive attributes essentially forces them to post things on social media which other people would not do. And the rest is history. For some people their compulsion is their biggest perceived strength. The old saying is don't let your biggest strength become your biggest weakness.
The Lew Alcindor RC auto for $44k. I wonder what the price would have been had the card not been a tall boy? What would a standard size of that card brought in the final price? Maybe 2x, maybe 4x? Makes me ask what is the best Topps NBA RC? They dropped the ball on Jordan and Wemby (Wemby prices on unlicensed cards will continue to drop like turkeys from a plane on WKRP). Magic and Bird were those gawd forsaken mini's. KAJ as a tall boy? At what point down the totem pole of the all time best basketball players does Topps - in the history of their company - finally get an NBA RC right ?
I like the lineup card relics. I wonder what the back of the card says in the disclaimer. Do they still use the generic language about the relic not being from any specific game or event?
I'm guessing Beckett has limited their searches because they pay Google and Google charges more for more searches on a website. IMO this is fine for Beckett. I think they position themselves as a takeover candidate when they have these issues that can be fixed with a little investment from a 3rd party takeover. Just like the 9.5 as gem mint. Nobody wants a 9.5, they want a 10 on their card. So another little adjustment a takeover company could do is fix the grading scale. Make the company more marketable. Make some more announcements and suddenly they look like a possibly viable company again, for a few months. I doubt any little issue at Beckett gets fixed. It keeps them looking like a viable takeover.
What gets my attention some this week is how many hobby stores were selling Topps Update hangers and blasters. None had made it to Walmart yet that I'm aware. Nearly all the hangers being sold by hobby shops are already marked up - some at $30 per hanger. How did the hobby shops end up getting retail products before retail outlets got them? Is this some new agreement with dealers and Fanatics? You can see a clear financial reason why the product is being routed through hobby shops - they are making a killing.
The Mantle auto's - maybe they get seeded 1 in 100,000 packs in $5 per pack product. So each $2500 auto creates $500,000 in sales. And they have 99?
