Just a heads up - you can very easily pick up a $25 car charger inverter that’ll give you an extra plug-in. Hook it up to this, and bam, portable Xbox setup in your car 😁
Not trying to sound like a hater, rude or anything like that. I think most people know that I think more people are looking for a fully portable solution though.
I think you'd be surprised how quickly it would run down a car battery as well. I would guess a car battery wouldn't last longer than 3 hours. Then your lead acid battery is completely depleted which is not very good for it's health at all. Just saying. Id like for the idea to work and be more practical as well.
I think having the HDMI be a cable instead of built-it reduces the chances of ruining the whole screen by breaking a single port. You can probably by a flat, right-angle cable to get it more flush
i'd actually prefer the cable solution rather than the slide-in solution. with the latter you're out the entire unit if the male HDMI or USB head breaks. there are tons of screen attachments for older consoles that were broken in that exact way.
It would be a good setup for in car playing for long road trips. Just need an inverter for the 12v plug and it's all good to go for the backseat riders. Or camping, if you've got a decent sized Jackery or equivalent, then it's perfect for that also!
I wanted a screen for my S a long time ago but never got around ordering one and ended up giving my S to my nephews and got a Series X. This all looks awesome put together man.
Okay - I just picked this up through your affiliate link. We are about to move to Italy and will be without our stuff for about 2 months. I'm mainly a PS5 player, but this will definitely get me through "wanting to play" for the next few months. Thank you!
Using a chargeable battery and then a rectifier to convert DC to AC and then plugging in the Xbox whose power block will convert the AC back to DC is pretty rad.
I feel like this could be improved with a larger battery on the bottom of the Xbox. I’m not sure about the mounting solution, but that would definitely help the play time. Also, limiting the output to 30hz (if that’s even an option, I didn’t check) would probably help power consumption.
From a novelty standpoint this is super neat and looks like a fun tinkering project! Practicality wise, though, I think Windows handheld PCs will serve this purpose fine.
Hell, even a Steam Deck running Windows can serve this purpose. I have Win10 running off an SD card on my Steam Deck and I use Game Pass all the time off of it.
The battery bank Inverts DC power to AC power. Then, the Xbox converts that AC power back to DC power. What you end up with here, is a huge loss in efficiency. Hence, all the heat, and the fan. The real play here, would be to mod the Xbox. That way, it can run directly from external DC Power. Replacing the internal power supply entirely, and converting it to USB PD would be awesome.
Very cool! The only recommendation I would make is instead of that big brick shaped battery, it would be cool if there was a portable powerbank available that was flat and the same dimensions as with height and width of the xbox and could connect to the back instead of the side. But overall, this was awesome. Thanks for sharing. Keep up the great work.
well its not exactly that simple, the xbox requires AC power so in order for a battery to be portable it needs to convert the DC power stored in the battery to AC power, and then the Xbox re-converts it back to DC power with its internal power supply, you wouldnt be able to have a small form factor battery like the one you describe because the Xbox can't take DC power directly from a wire
@@kieran.grant_ For me, it is primarily a portable Destiny 2 machine. Which does play the game on there at 4K and looks fantastic. Still, what’s better about my model over this one is mine also does 1080p but it does it with 120hz AMD Freesync and this model Wulff is featuring only does 60hz. So even at 1080p he got the wrong one. Plus the bezels on his model are way wider and take up more space than on the G-story
Isn’t that one way bigger, expanding the width of the Xbox with spacers and also still much more expensive than this one? Series S is a 1440p machine anyway, I guess except destiny 2
Series X runs Destiny 2 in 4k and sometimes hits 120fps. I think you just fell for the trap of “more numbers good” edit: this is according to bungees post about the new optimization for series s/x which says both are 60fps, only series x is 4k and series x has the option for 120hz in pvp
IMO I'd like to make a "Home-Mobile" console setup. Basically a portable monitor and a console that you can move to anywhere in the house near an outlet. Personally I'll never need to be able to play console a the park, subway, public, etc. But being able to move the console easily around the house is great
I have been wanting a Series X lately because I realized the Series S is only slightly more powerful than the One X, but the more and more I use it the more I realize that its literally the best deal possibile with a modern gaming console. It also supports 4k in some games and a lot of games even support 120hz. Yea, 90% of games on the S will be 1440p60 unlike the Series X which plays almost every game in 4k, but I bought it at BestBuy for like $220 which is $100 less than what I paid for my PS4 slim about 2 years ago. I also just remembered that my 4k TV upscales 1440p to 4k. In fact most TV's do that, so really you are still playing in 4k on a Series S. I think Minecraft runs at 1440p on the Series S and on a 4k TV it basically looks like 4k.
i think ur VASTLY underestimating how much better the series S is over the xbox one x and vastly overestimating how much better the series x is over the s
For me it's not about being portable but more about space convenient. Small apartment with some kids, you could easily put it in a couple of places. And why not, in the toilets too.
When I put the Series X and ps5 in my office to utilize my only 4k 144hz monitor, I bought a series s to have in the family room. I hardly used the Series s in that scenario so I did the logical thing and threw more money at it. Having the xscreen is pretty sweet, i dont have it full portable like you but it does make gaming in bed a treat. I use my Series s a lot now.
You really make your videos enjoyable to watch! 🐺 12:19 I like your ingenuity, your charm for gadgets and emulators, even your ads are fun! Thank you for making videos like this for gamers and geeks alike! ❤
I remember watching damnit Jeff doing a video on the xscreen and he talk about being annoyed how the rest of the ports got covered up so I definitely think the screen you have is better in that regard
This so cool to know I may have to look into getting this particular Xbox and the screen. I would like to take an Xbox on vacation or road trips. Currently just have an xbox one S that stays stationary.
The Xbox runs off 12v DC internally anyway, and the internal power supply is converting the plugged in AC power. Ideally what you would want is a replacement power supply that has 12v dc direct input - a battery would last much longer without the dc-ac-dc inefficiencies
I made something like this … some of it was to be portable but mostly it’s for it to sit on a desk and not look out of place with my MacBook and iPad next to it. I have traveled with it when I go for an extended vacation and it was very portable not much bigger than a laptop and it doubles as a movie player and music player the speakers are loud and it does plug into headphones or speakers with an aux. Great for Fifa on the go and some GTA even if it’s just for the novelty of having a sharp and tiny Xbox on the go and everyone always wants to know if I’m bringing the XBOX
I bought a car starter with an 12 volt outlet and stuck it to the back of my x screen with industrial velcro. Used your idea with the angle cord it works great for a hour and ten minutes.
This is exactly what I was looking for as for budget and portability since I don’t live in a stable environment and I don’t wanna worry about fighting over my tv or getting kicked out my house 😅
HELL YEAH IVE BEEN PLAYING SA2B and worked on getting all A rank on the stages. I got the last stage b4 the last boss still and another boss run. As well as just finishing all chao races and chao karate
Considering very few games allow for 120 fps for the series s, a 1080p screen with 60 hertz is fine. Also, I am wary of taking even my 3ds outside, let alone an entire console designed to be played in your house.
thanks bought the screen while watching this video. i just want it so i can play my xbox series s anywhere there is an outlet without needing a big tv.
those AC Outlet Portable Battery are great for camping or having them in the car for emergency but don't bring them on air planes you will be stopped by tsa
watched another video where they said with the series S and the screen it was drawing around 80 watts. I hopped on Amazon and checked for some power banks, I found one for around $220 that is rated for 300 watt hours, which should run a system at 80 watts for close to 4 hours in case you wanted more gameplay.
Throw some washers in the screw setup and remove that nut that’s acting as a spacer. You need the hold down force of the screw head spread out by a washer to make it more stable. Everything else is great 👍🏻
This is a real good idea you could probably put a nice bigger, flip screen without the side buttons and hook controllers to it, and maybe make it rechargeable with a battery pack The charges or you can plug it in the wall and play it.
Unrelated to this video (even if that thing looks cool), I just wish there was a way for someone nerdy to make an external disk drive that reads Xbox Series X games by taking apart that giant console carefully and examine what it is inside, and need to find which parts can work by compiling it into a simple disk drive. If it has to be sturdy, just don't make it too heavy.
You can 3d print a holder or get some of that 60lb Gorilla brand double sided tape. Double layer where you place the tape so there's air flow and boom. Saved yourself 11.8 hours. You could have it symmetrical and sturdier. And, from my experience, Gorilla brand double sided tape is pretty easy to remove.
I'd rather have the battery in the back, so the sound would be lower and all cables could be hidden. It's also missing something to charge it on the package, and as I think it can't charge and power the console simultaneously, the mechanism for it would need to have a pass-through to Xbox while charging. Once disconnected, it would change to the battery. Doing it flawlessly would require another temp battery, but turning the console off and on wouldn't be a big deal.
How to make the most “not allowed on a plane” device ever 😂 this is sick though I would totally do this if I had a series S. Now you just need a worm light to see it outside.
Really really hoping for a new zelda song for Splatfest, and with an update coming to add Splatfest assets it could be possible? Some kind of pop punk Zelda main theme cover? I'm not getting my hopes up but it'd be cool.
I got the bluetti portable power station, powers my ps4 and a portable 2k monitor for up to 3hrs. Perfect for camping. I think my setup and thus setup is comparable, when it comes to portability.
Why do you bring an entire console when camping? I love gaming as much as the next person, but camping has always struck as a time for books more than a time for God of War
@Kieran Grant movie night, the kiddos, etc. To each their own. I usually read at work, during the slow periods. Camping I'm usually at the lake/river doing water sports, or hiking, etc.
if you going to use a battery inverter like in the video make sure that it is a pure sine wave inverter modulated sine wave (normally cheap and small) make dirty power that can damage Electronics also lots of power loss using an inverter to power somthing like this step up to 120v ac from dc then back down to dc the better way would to directly power the Xbox with the dc voltages it requires but that would take some hardware hacking and knowledge of electricity
Interesting there is other screens for the Series S/Wii U of Xbox screen experiences. Or compared to PS1/GameCube and OG Xbox screens. I think screens for consoles is pretty cool but interesting to dee other options and how they perform and what an on the go optythen a big bag and screen like I've also so the more compact is a challenge but still interesting. and you can let everyone know
Screaming in public he’s one shot on my X
This comment sounds like something I would say 😂
This channel was already super up my alley and now you’re 3d printing stuff too! I’m very happy in the middle of this Venn diagram
THAT'S What your Prusa was for- just got one myself and running it constantly. Guessing you'll have a ton of use for it going forward. Well done!
That "I'm proud of you" hit me harder than I expected!
Me too 🥹
11.6in is an incredibly common LCD panel size for small laptops so it was probably incredibly cheap for them to buy in bulk lol

Name a more iconic duo than xboxes and power bricks
Oh man, you got the wrong one. 😮
The one you want is the G-Story 4K60/1080p 120hz freesync screen.
That model is gorgeous with way better bezels.
The series S rarely renders at 4K or 120fps anyway, so a low power screen makes much more sense to me.

of course when u show a thumbnail with retrododo at the begining with the portable gamecube with the screen I subbed right away :)
Series s is my favorite console, the small size, and the loadin times. And even the 120fps in most games
Just how hot it is. Thing made it so I didn't need my heater this winter.
The battery bank looks like a weird hybrid between a 360 slim and its power brick.

Excellent video. I always wondered if the Xbox could become fully portable and now I know
You could get a nice Ecoflow sponsorship with this setup. Make it look like a Panasonic Q and have the ENORMOUS battery underneath
This would make for a great portable gaming station on a camping trip. Too bad you couldn't come up with a deal with Jackery.
I love how minimalistic you are, but always have a will to do all this haha 😂
First Wulff Den vid to interest me in like a year.
The format of his vids now seems different since then.
thanks bought the screen while watching this video. i just want it so i can play my xbox series s anywhere there is an outlet without needing a big tv.

Good job, Bob. As with Evangelions, which needed to be plugged in, our poor baterry technology keeps holding us down.
This is a real good idea you could probably put a nice bigger, flip screen without the side buttons and hook controllers to it, and maybe make it rechargeable with a battery pack The charges or you can plug it in the wall and play it.
Another great in depth video thank you ! If you even need help with the 3D printing let me know !
Solar panel powered is the next step for this project LOL

That dog was trying to tell you something about your abilities 😅.
And please someone try that battery with a heater, FOR SCIENCE!!
perfect for when mom tells you to go outside and get some sunshine.

That sound is from Gummi's Echo great song if you know you know :D
Seems decent for a camping trip with a bigger sort of power bank.

Bob you forgot about the sega dreamcast controller! ❤ it had a screen in the vmu
I love Tinkercad for no reason
I have a couple camping batteries that I've used to play series s at the beach a couple of times, or in the car.

If he dropped it down to 28,000 you could indeed get it on the plane.
I got a 17.5 inch 144hz portable display for my ps5.
Everything fits in a laptop backpack
Really really hoping for a new zelda song for Splatfest, and with an update coming to add Splatfest assets it could be possible? Some kind of pop punk Zelda main theme cover? I'm not getting my hopes up but it'd be cool.

also isnt there 1 for the series x or soemthing?
