PS4 Pro was the same price as the base PS4’s launch price and the base ps4 got a price cut too. Conversely, the PS5 Pro is substantially more expensive whilst not having a disc drive and the PS5 didn’t even get a price cut. Horrible deal.
And PS4 pro still sold horribly with that strategy. Only 13% of ps4 in the US were pro versions. Even in 2024 you can barely build a PC with USED parts to match the 4 year old PS5's performance at its current Disc version MSRP, not to mention even trying to build a pc to match the price/performance of a used PS5, which can be found for under $300. PS5 and PS5 pro are OBJECTIVELY good deals in a pure price to performance standpoint, both new and used. LinusTechTips, among other youtubers, have done videos building a "PS5 Killer" to compete with normal and Pro versions of the PS5, and many take shortcuts, even when buying used parts, to compete with Playstation. I don't even own a PS5 but to just LIE about them not a good deal is objectively wrong. Is Sony just supposed to give people a free upgrade and lose tons of money? Let me know when any of the PC companies like AMD or Nvidia give you a free upgrade.
@@EnyoTaizpc gamer here to give my few cents. When you do a price up front, in one session of money spending, then yes, ps5/pro is cheaper than pc. When you begin to compare pricing over time (ps+, $70 games, rare sales on games, used disc marketplace + single seller marketplace (ps store)) things start to change. While the examples are mentioned for console, I have been: -saving money yearly on not having to pay for a membership to play online ($80+ /yr) -get games discounted through steam, EA/Origin, Epic, uplay, GOG, AND third party marketplaces such as g2a, cdkeys, greenmangaming, gamesplanet, etc Spending $1300 on a pc, year after year for let's say 7 years, you save approximately $500-700 on annual memberships. 700 for a console, you'll have for 5-7 years isn't just $700. It's roughly $1300 for that time frame. Discounts on games? You're pretty much locked down to retailer sales for games, used games marketplace (if you have a disc), or the sales ps store offers. What pc does NOT offer is a simple, out of the box solution for "will it work?". PC is more complicated, yes. But putting in the effort to work and learn will yield good gain in my personal opinion. "what about the pro having better performance for $700?"- well it's using a form of FSR/DLSS/AFMF/frame generation. Which already exists on pc. So they're doing the same thing to look good/better. If you want simple, console is the way to go. If you want to save more over the long run, pc is the place. But this is exactly why it's fantastic we have these options. So we have more choices. Long live gaming!
In the long run? We'll be seeing the next generation before the end of the decade and they couldnt even take advantage of the original hardware. @Roof_Pizza
Damn this hits hard.. lol. So far the only game I’ve played on the pro is last of us 1.. games like Spider-Man, ff7 rebirth and etc.. were all played on the ps5 without any issues. Of course aside from how ff7 rebirth looked, but after a while you adjust. Are you thinking of returning it? A part of me is thinking of returning, but I feel like in a couple of months I’ll want it again lol. I managed to only pay $300 (including my ps5 base trade in and gift card)
@@TheSoxor123 definitely need to try it out! I have a really good desktop and heard it’s coming on pc. So debating between waiting or playing it on the ps5 pro
@briandprice81 mehhh I don’t know. I randomly go into these weird spirals. One day want to return and not using it, and stick to my high end pc.. then another day all I want is the ps5 lol. I don’t think I will return it, due to the fact I know myself when it comes to tech, which I love. In a couple of weeks or even months, I’ll be like.. damn I want the ps5 pro again
Consoles used to be the opposite of this. Simple plug and play, moving data like moving an object (remember memory cards?), buying, collecting or renting games. Now I feel like even PC is easier: savedata usually can be copied to any USB drive, games default to settings for my system, online is mostly free, you can mod the games, and most "limits" can be broken or have a workaround. Meanwhile consoles are just becoming harder to use in the name of subscription services and the fear that someone find a way to jailbreak the system using an USB drive.
@@Moli05the transfer rates are just such a pain in the ass, can they get with the times? It's 2024 and their transfer speeds are still stuck in the 90s
They are still way simpler than a pc. So they are relatively still plug and play. PC is definitely not easier and jail breaking a console makes it so you can not access online services so people don’t do it as often and when they do it’s usually a second console they don’t care about or don’t use anymore
The worst thing is that it's close to 1000€ in europe. 799€ for the console, probably 80€ for the drive (still not being sold where I live) and now add ps+ and one game for 70€...
I hate the fact that the PS5's (all of them) are so Flimsy & cant stand properly! - My PS4 PRO is so sturdy, with weight & this can easily & safetly stand both horisontally & vertically without any stand... 👍
Which is really good since it would be a layer of SSAA, super sampling. No more blurry TAA slop, DLSS not needed either (devs have to flip those switches on console obv)
@@M_CFV It's good, but native 8K on an 8K display would still look sharper. Sony have been lying by putting 8K on the box of the base PS5. PS5 Pro can do 8K 60Hz with only 32Gbps of bandwidth because of DSC. There's no reason the base PS5 shouldn't be able to do the same. Though, I have to admit that the main reason I'm complaining is because I want my PS5 to do 4K HDR 120Hz with no chroma subsampling.
@@TheRealBOBlibobSony put 4k and 8k because of the hdmi 2.1 capabilities. It’s a marketing tactic. Naive of you to think that a $500 box can perform the same as a high end pc
That save transfer issue is a microcosm of why I gave up my PS5 last year for a PC handheld. The $80 PS Plus upcharge to do basically anything is such a scam.
@@dragoon1090 I'm also waiting for a Steam Deck 2 and am fully prepared to wait another 2-3 years for one. I want the current model but I want Valve to keep polishing up the handheld experience for a few more years and make more and more games Linux compatible first. I already have a gaming pc and a base ps5 so I'm good for the time being. The only thing holding me back on buying the current Steam Deck is the fact it's 3 years old and I do not like buying consoles mid-gen or late-gen because for me it's a waste of money when a new thing is on the horizon.
@@shepardcommander9960I was just gifted one and I can confirm it’s worth the wait. It feels cheap, the battery life isn’t there yet. It is a really neat experience but I have much more fun and less stress with my switch.
It doesn't need anything for vertical placement. It stands just fine, or are you planning to be kicking your console? If you have a disk drive on it is even more sturdy.
I want an OLED deck soo bad. But I can't justify it since my current LCD is working just fine. Guess I'll just wait like 2-5 years for a deck 2 hopefully comes with an OLED stock.
@briandprice81 Sadly, I've wanted one ever since the XEL-1 but now I've got the family so I can't justify $1000+ for a decent one but best believe as soon as they come down to $500-650 I'll be getting two. Sooo right now the answer is the iPhone 13 and the PS Vita lol here's hoping the next Steam Deck and Switch come standard!
Agree 100%. I feel like the PS5 Pro really shines if you get a good TV to play it on. I play on a LG OLED with 120hz, the improvements the Pro brings to games on my TV is so good.
I only do this when I want to support the dev, but I buy a lot of indie games. It's not worth it for most games in my opinion, especially when you're paying $60-80 for a game.
I remember when most content creators were stating for years, we would never get a PS5 Pro console as it was deemed unnecessary. Welp, here we are, "Sony said, " Hold my beer, we got this." I was actually really eager to see what new amazing tech would be in the Pro, IMO its a great time to buy a PS5 slim , they are widely available, and for $500 bucks you cant go wrong. Im sticking with my OG fat PS5 widebody , im more than satisfied with the performance, especially since I just upgraded to a brand new 55-inch 120hz 4K OLED TV. Im actually shocked how many consumers actually fell for the marketing and shelled out nearly $800 bucks for such minute upgrades. Oh, and the dreamcast guy selling his used ps5 pro to his " girlfriend " for $500 to upgrade to the Pro is absolutely priceless. Im not a PC gamer, nor will I ever be, but this new mid gen upgrade is lackluster, to say the least. I may get a steamdeck , that thing looks amazing , and I can play games outside of the PS ecosystem. people are free to spend their money on how they deem fit, but I certainly won't be one of them. I think it also hurts us as consumers going forward. I can honestly see a future where the ps6 launches at $800 bucks retail because Sony saw how many people bought the pro at this price point.
Regarding the stand and instability. Everyone joked about the shape of the XBox Series X when it released, but being square/rectangular it didn't require any stand regardless of the orientation and it's rock solid no tipping worries.
I hate the fact that the PS5's (all of them) are so Flimsy & cant stand properly! - My PS4 PRO is so sturdy, with weight & this can easily & safetly stand both horisontally & vertically without any stand... 👍
I’ll pay $700 when the performance and the graphics are actually 10 times the 20 times better than they have been for previous console. If you’re gonna come out with a pro make it a real professional high grade quality make a difference console other than that, it’s a money graband it’s only for the real enthusiast that feel like they need it so I will be happy with my regular five instead of pissing away 700+ tax
The problem with 8K (and higher resolutions in general) is multifaceted. 1) It's only been within the last few years (so within this console generation) that consoles have been able to take advantage of native 4K and not up-scaled nonsense and even on PC consistent 4K is largely limited to the higher end with some lower end cards being able to do some 4K with easier to run games. 2) I have a sneaking suspicion that most people don't own a 4K TV so they wouldn't even be able to take advantage of 4K anyway. Certainly most PC gamers don't have 4K monitors, with most being at 1080p. 3) To properly take advantage of higher resolutions you need to have the corresponding graphical textures for that resolution and the problem with that is file size. 4K is already ridiculous in terms of file size and I don't even want to contemplate what 8K would be like. 4) The higher the resolution, the bigger the minimum size of the display needs to be able to notice the difference. Honestly, high resolutions are basically this generation's equivalent to console manufacturers debating over "bits". Generally, I think over the next decade you're going to see higher resolutions fall to the way side. I think even 4K is going to fall to the way side. Especially if this general trend toward handheld gaming because high resolutions on handheld is dumb, even if battery life and performance wasn't an issue.
Might be a dumb idea but it would be great to see more appeal to 4K gaming TVs. With the PS5's multitasking capabilities, I wonder if it would be possible to run two lower graphic games simultaneously if it were supported software side, and then send the audio to separate controller's headphone jacks(headphones) based on who logged in to each instance/window. That way, 2 people could enjoy PlayStation classics at once and sell more TVs. Welp, not how it works now for sure, and PC/Windows 4K support leaves something to be desired. :I
4k resolution actually “shrinks” the overall image necessitating a larger (tv) display. My tv is 4k 55’ but I have it set to 1440p for majority of my games because the difference is barely noticeable from 4k. Majority of PC gamers still play at 1080p and most common gpu ≈equivalent is a 2070.
I regards to save transferring without using cloud (paying), you actually can do it. I used an external hard drive and back up my original system, which included PS4 and PS5 save data, and then went into the system settings on the Pro and restored from the backup. I didn't do the direct transfer from old to new because I traded in my old system toward the Pro. It is still incredibly ridiculous that the process is that convoluted just to move your save data from system to system.
looked around this morning for prices of launch PS5s & found them regularly at $300. such a better deal, saving $500. games look very similar at a normal viewing distance and it has a disc drive.
I hate the fact that the PS5's (all of them) are so Flimsy & cant stand properly! - My PS4 PRO is so sturdy, with weight & this can easily & safetly stand both horisontally & vertically without any stand... 👍
People also seem to forget that the PS4 pro launched at $400 and was only $100 more than the base model. I can't believe people are buying this at $700. Oh and the PS4 pro had a disk drive. Edit: Read the replies if you want some entertainment laughing at Simps trying to justify overpaying for weak hardware. Meanwhile my old 3080 is still running rings around them.
They aren’t selling the console for a loss this time, the gpu is closest to 7800xt which goes for £470 rest of the parts would make it 600 ~700 it seems they are selling it for break even or a slight profit
Have you heard about inflation my friend? It’s been a really big story for years now. The base PS5 is now $450. The Pro is absolutely worth the extra $250 when you consider it’s got double the storage and can make games look and run better.
The difference in power is more significant with the 5 pro and the system comes with 2tb instead of 1tb on the 4 pro. Keeping in mind that games were about the same size back then so you really had to do the shuffle
I don’t like the price either but you can’t expect the same $100 more price for what you’re getting + inflation + not selling at a loss. With that said not including a disk drive + stand is still very scummy
One reason I have no interest in a ps5 pro or ps6. PCs are WAY cheaper and more powerful long term. Cheaper games and way less nickle and diming for feature. It really adds up. And with less and less to almost no console exclusives anymore, just why?
@williammiller3277 couldn't agree more! After going to pc all my consoles have collected dust, so much so I just sold all of them this last Thursday because I dont use them at all anymore. I've even converted a couple buddies into pc gamers themselves.
Is not that bad. You don't need cloud saves. I don't use cloud saves. You can save on the console and back up your saves in an external disc. If you are not interested in playing any multiplayer component for most games then you don't need to pay the online ether. Especially if you only play online with free online games since you can still play those without paying. I play mostly single player and the few main online games i play are free to play games so i don't really need any other online functionality that much. Even when i pay for online i just find the cheaper offer available. Now i have a year of PS plus essential that only payed 50 for. Less than 5 each month. I am not rich and that is not even noticeable even for my pocket and if you play some of the games offered then you kind of get your money back(i am now playing Dead Space Remake that was just given last month with Essential) even if you see them as long term rentals and not actually having the game which is fair way to look at it, we gave about as much just renting a game or two for the weekend from shops back in the day.
Bob, I love you man. I’ve been watching you for many years and I love your opinions and the way you think. I was shouting “yes” and “amen” during your rant on HDR and PS4 USB transfer and 8K. Tell em! Love you Bob, thanks for making great reviews and videos of all the stuff I care about ❤
People always talk about the graphics, but for me it’s the improved frame rates. Several games would drop frames on the original model that are nearly locked now. The added resolution bump is just the cherry on top.
@DogCheese420 lmao wut? A little bit of drops in a game isn't the end of the world. And besides it's more of an optimization issue. Buying a whole new piece of tech for this little bit of gain is just hiding terrible dev work.
@@kilerscn if you want keep them both, first option won’t work. it’s mentioned that you can’t use a usb drive to transfer ps5 game saves. That only works for ps4 games.

I got myself a PS5 Pro the day they came out, I was actually surprised I was able to just walk in a store and buy one. Anyway, I jumped to it from a launch PS4 and I’m very happy with it. I had thought about just getting a slim but I decided to go with the Pro for future proofing essentially. The console generations overlap more today than they ever have, there is legitimately no good reason to get even a PS5 if you have a base PS4 that works, it still plays almost all of the games out right now. It’s. It the best experience, but if you’re a casual gamer that is really all you need. Even better if you’ve got a Pro. If I can get 8-10 years out of the this PS5 Pro like I did my PS4, I’ll be happy. The way things are going, I think I can even surpass that. We’ll see.
this upgrade cycle feels like that internet meme where the person is asked if there is a difference between two photo's and the person just tells them these two pictures are the same.
I don't know why games can not be optimised better especially games on unreal 5 they look great but seem to be very hard to run on consoles. Playing battlefield 5 lately reminds me how good games looked without being super complicated so seeing as how an engine like that works great why can't they use ones like that and make slight improvements rather than always pushing boundaries as that seems to cause more problems than it is impressive to look at
that frustration with the ps plus stuff and cloud saves is so real man. i'm glad i dont have to worry about it when i upgrade my steam deck to the oled model whenever
18:38 You *can* transfer games without Wi-Fi, you just need a device that is designed to be a PlayStation 5 "USB Extended Storage." Regular flash drives don't work.
The whole "this HDD/SSD is designed specially for PlayStation" is a scam. What you're paying for is that PS logo on the box. All you need to do is get the drive that is the normal equivalent, plug it into your PS and let it format it (take note that this erases present data) to what the PS uses to store data.
@@EspenSGX mb king. should have phrased it as "works as" instead of "designed to be." for the record, I didn't mean officially licensed ones, just ones that are known to work.
Not me watching this on a MacBook then get called out mid video to watch on a MacBook only to realize I was already watching in HDR and didn't realize. Good lookin video!
Except for when downloading a new game it doesn't make much difference though. Maybe if you stream via an app or PS portal (if they ever realse a wifi 7 version) but not for playing on the pro itself. Hope what youre streaming to also has wifi 7. Lol. I'd rather have faster wifi too but I ain't paying what Sony wants for it. Not that much of a plus.
@ it did for me. Downloaded all my games and it’s a significant improvement. I play Warzone and usually have to hardwire but I’ve been using WiFi to purposely see if it’s bs but I haven’t had any network issues. As far as the price, a 2tb SSD alone costs 100+. You get that with all the other features so I’m good on the price. Not to mention I sold my old PS5 to GameStop for $250 🤷🏾♂️
@LuckyLefty85 and I got a PC with better specs for less if price is the rationalization. ::shrugs:: It is the worst rationalization for a ps5 pro though. If you had to hardwire before there was something wrong with your network.
@@LuckyLefty85 You only listed the downloading. Aside from that, it'll have no benefit. Which is what William said. As for 2TB SSD, sure that's 100 retail (not exactly 100 for Sony though) - but it's a 1TB upgrade, and 1TB is about 45/50. As for other features, I'm not sure what you mean. Slightly better graphics in some games, but then it loses the disc drive and the stand, so it's a downgrade feature-wise overall. So you're saying you paid 450 difference for a $50 SSD and Wifi 7 improvements.
Someone could have an RTX3060 but buy a 4070. Isn’t the purpose of that to improve graphics and performance? Same here but you’re buying the equivalent of a pc instead of just a gpu. I could be 100% wrong here but at the end of the day, Sony got my money and I’m a happy customer lol
I totally agree with your thoughts about not really caring about super HD graphics...and FPS, honestly. I do think they can look really cool, but I would much rather have a quality, stable playing experience...and more money? Maybe I'm not that sensitive to it, or maybe it is just because I'm getting older so...I don't see it as well or I remember how games used to look...idk...I'm pretty cool to sticking with Switch and a gaming handheld/laptop that I can take with me and enjoy a bunch of games for alot less money in general.
Already got a PS5 and a PC, won't bother getting the PS5 Pro, not even sure if I'll buy PS6/Pro at a later date, still moving on from PlayStation to Steam and GOG on Linux. I rarely play multi-player games these days.
You can transfer PS5 save files via USB by doing a system backup then restore to the pro. I did it. I also have a 55” 4k 120hz OLED that is about 9-10 feet away from my couch where I game. I can notice a difference in image quality. 🤷🏻♂️
I returned mine. Rebirth was great, but then I decided I don’t have much else to play after that. I rather just wait for the PC port of rebirth now, and hopefully it’ll fix the pop ins
it's an issue with unreal engine 4. it would take a large undertaking of the base game code & probably won't get fixed with a PC port, similar to Sonic Frontiers
This. I haven't touched the game since I finished it way back in March or April because I can't stand how bad the broken textures look and the constant pop up. Would much rather play it on my PC and Steam Deck, not to mention the mods that people are going to make for this game will be awesome.
Also HDMI 2.1 is more than enough for a 4K 120 hz and HDR gameplay. HDMI 2.1 supports 48 GBPS bandwidth, that means it supports 4k up to 153 hz even on a 10 bit panel.
I have a great TV, with 120 hrz and VRR support, but I have no interest in this upgrade. This generation from SONY has been frustrating for me. I don't see myself putting anymore money into Playstation after this gen. These console makers are making getting a PC more and more appealing.
I've made the exact same HDR rant at my setup. Windows on my Lenovo Legion Go tells me that my external display doesn't support HDR while my monitor displays HDR content the Go is sending. It used to be that when I changed the volume on windows, the pop-up volume slider would cause the screen to go black. I assume that that overlay isn't in HDR and causes hiccups. It's a strangely unstable technology.
And here I am playing my 120$ offerup ps4 pro on the lowest settings to get the best performance on an old dell monitor I got from goodwill for 10$. The original peter parker face still looks better. 🤣
From the couch, an 8k screen looks basically the same as a 1080p screen. Increasing the resolution past that doesn't make it look perceptibly better... it mostly just makes software run slower and makes hardware cost more.
So like I was playing Resident Evil 5 on PS3 and 720p was looking insanely good on a 50” 1080p at like 10-12 feet. Seriously though, if all games used Capcom’s MT Framework game engine I don’t think we would have ever needed to upgrade from PS3. XD Sadly modern game engines are a total mess. Ever seen a Unity title on New 3DS? Nintendo really messed up by not partnering with Capcom for the 3DS Dev Kit. And forget about Unreal Engine there.
The difference between 1080p, 1440p, and 2160p is noticeable but not by much. I’d say it most noticeable from 1080 to 1440; the image is crisper and vibrant. 1440 to 2160, the image outline is clean and not slightly grainy/blurry.
Go see an Optometrist IMMEDIATELY if you can't tell the difference between 1080p and 8K. 🤣🤣🤣 2 Million pixels vs 33 Million pixels is a night and day difference. P.s. You need at least an 85 inch display in order for 8K to make an impact.
Dude. To transfer from your old PS5 to the Pro, you can literally just move all your games onto the SSD and then put that SSD into the Pro. It just works. No transfer via wifi necessary.
Matter of fact all you need is a lan cable 😂 literally connect a lan cable to the ps5s in its lan slots turn on the ps5s and it’ll connect & ask you to transfer thru lan cable, I used to due this on my ps3 and ps4 so much easier & faster😅
@@jordanrayo2425 That seems like a backwards step to me. If I'm upgrading from one machine to the other then I'm clearly taking my SSD with me anyway. And SSD read/write speeds > network transfer speeds even over ethernet.
@@mrturbo84 Seriously? You turn on your PS5, go to settings, storage, then select your games and move them all to the SSD. When it's finished, you turn off the PS5, remove the SSD, insert it into the PS5 Pro and then turn that on. No PC is needed for any of these steps.
I had around 700 GB of data on ps5 and I connected both ps5 and ps5 pro with lan cable and the whole process of transferring of data took around 50 minutes, lmao
For someone like me who had my original ps3 for 7yrs and my current original ps4 for 10yrs, is it worth buying the ps5 pro as my first model knowing how long before i upgrade and that developers may utilise the hardware in the years to come? Im not necessarily that focused on physical media although re buying some ps4 disc's will be irritating. Currently in the uk brand new i can get a slim for for £459 or a pro for £659
If you have the money for that there is the advantage of ps4 games running perfect, ps5 games running really well and ps6 games which problably wanna run nice on ps5 pro After all ps4 is still having new games even if can't run so well
i always thought it was hilarious they had an 8k logo on the box at launch of the PS5, and not sure who remembers but the PS5 wasnt even capable of VRR at launch
The last time a boost in power got me a new gameplay experience was going from Xbox to Xbox 360. The move from Xbox 360 to Xbox One got me better graphics and I guess faster load times and that's it. This is why I play games almost exclusively on Nintendo hardware and PC. Nintendo figured out 2 decades ago that boosted in power weren't going to cut it anymore. The Wii, Wii U, and Switch have all given me gameplay experiences that are unique (even if the Switch's experience is just that it's portable). The last non-Nintendo console I bought was a launch Xbox One and neither Sony or Microsoft have given me a single good reason to upgrade. It baffles me that people buy these things by the 10s of millions when every game that comes out for them could run on an Xbox 360 or PS3 if you just sacrificed graphical fidelity.
360 to One is massive dude, go back and look at the disgusting aliasing and framerates on everything. As someone who emulates games from that era, they need heavily upscaled to look good (no jaggies, no blur)
In anticipation for the arrival of my PS5 Pro, I spent a month replaying Demon’s Souls on my PS5. I felt this would give me a better feel for the enhancements that would be provided by the Pro, when I transferred over to the new console. There was a significant bump in game performance on the Pro.
I would really consider updating if it was cheaper. The price is absolutely nuts. I was hoping the original PS5 price would drop to 450$ or 400$ and the pro would be the new 500$ or 550$ or even 600$. Unfortunately we don’t live in that world.
I have PS5 Pro at launch. I played Alan Wake 2 - The first half of the game, I played on my old PS5 - the difference is that I had so much more detail on PS5 Pro and 60fps. To have this detail on my PS5, I needed the fidelity mode, and I played on 30fps which made me dizzy. So, huge improvement here. I played TLOU Remake and it looked so detailed, so beautiful! I played on fidelity and switched on high frame rate (my TV supports 120fps), and I had fidelity + around 50-60fps (idk, it was a lot more than 30fps for sure). Now I am playing Spider-Man 2 - it looks amazing, I have RT, 60fps and 4K. For me, PS5 Pro is a good upgrade compared to PS5. But I have 65" 4K @ 120fps TV. Also, I really appreciated when Sony included Atmos sound to the console, because I have 5.1.2 sound system + receiver. So, is it worth it? Highly depends on your setup, and if you are fidelity freak or not basically. Because there are people that cannot see the difference between Blu-Ray and 4K Blu-ray. Just saying.
Encouraging 24fps games with rolling shutter? NOOO thank you. Rolling shutter resembles cheap modern cameras. Most people consider a filmic look more desirable. Things that might help that would be proper per object motion blur, chromatic aberration, complex grain structures. Rolling shutter would just look like screen tearing. That would feel like lag and jitter in gameplay. Also it would make mouse users dizzy due to the more 1:1 nature of mouse movement. Keep frame rates high and options toggle-able please.
I really don't think is a great review though because he hardly had any games to test so i don't get how he can even claim to have tested it. Testing something like Spiderman or Horizon or God of War is not a good test because Sony first party games are very well build for the hardware so they are already squeezing everything they can get from the normal PS5 to look as good as possible and any enhanced edition they may have will hardly been very different since they already were great. Then he teste resident Evil that is just more frames from 60 that is already pretty good.
I was tempted... but for that price with no disc drive out the box is a no go for me *looks over at collection of physical games and nods "Edit: Thanks for the video Bob! 🥰"
I bought a PS5 Pro, I stalled 1 game out of box, Overwatch 2. Game/PS5 Pro crashed and didn't restart. Had to turn it back on again. Happened in every game I tested after. How did this pass QA?
@@AhrionGallegos There aren’t any massive threads or tech channels talking about it though. I noticed it’s probably the same sort of issue that also happens with the base PS5. You just got unlucky, hopefully you got it sorted!
You're wrong. There's an option for save file transfer thru USB Flash Drive... It's just a different menu. Look for backup your PS5. GO to Settings > System > System Software > Data Transfer
It is odd that it's in another place. Also when you do the data transfer from console to console, you can narrow down the transfer to your saves & profile. You don't have to do the full hard drive.
I sell video games for a living and during a move to a different state I got a ps4 pro to replace my dying ps4 slim. It was a great deal, just had to fix it up a bit. Didn’t think about backing up my save files because all of my saves have been in the cloud. Since the price increase of the ps4 subscription, I decided to stop it before the move. So, I plug in my ps4 pro wanting to finally get to level 100 in Tetris Effect after my move… I notice I’m at level 1 again. I’m like “ah, I forgot to transfer my save file over, no big deal, it’s in the cloud. I’ll just download the 500 kbps file.” Then I get hit with “you need to be a ps+ member to download your save files.” I instantly, and immediately became a steam deck/PC gamer after that. You can play online with friend, you can move save field, remote play, share play, etc. FOR FREE. Why are we getting charged for things we’re already paying for with our regular internet? Just to play on a console where most of its exclusives end up on steam in 6 months???
The potential of the PS5 wasn't fully realised by enough games. Metal gear solid isn't there to show off a bomb proof and unique experience. And obviously there are great games like ratchet and clank and god a war but the choices are slim. Using the PS5 to it's full potential doesn't mean 4K, who cares. But having a game that has a creative vision and is efficiently using the power of the system to get good frames. I think AAA and console gaming is going all in on fidelity at the cost of style and vision. I had a PS5 and couldn't scrape together the enthusiasm to buy and download a game from the store. The PS5 Pro in my opinion is a symptom of the diminishing returns of the fidelity economy that is AAA gaming. Would love to see a refocus on gameplay above all else. I don't know, i'm probably full of shit.
Wulff going off on his ps5 pro at 19:25 for no physical save transfers the same way a frustrated dad goes off on a misbehaving child is such unintended comedy
Everyone made fun of Xbox when they announced 'smart delivery'' for the series consoles to prevent the debacle you had with playing the wrong versions of games. It's actually kinda wild how many things the Xbox series consoles offer over the playstation 5 or even things they simply offer or don't limit you by, and yet the mass market and main stream big game/tech outlets and youtube channels would make you probably think playstations are wildly better products (specifically the hardware and console experience) .
Hey @WulffDen, did it not occur to you that you can plug a LAN cable between the PS5s to transfer your data much faster? like you did with your PS4 when you transferred it's data to the PS5 back in 2020.
I absolutely LOVED playing through The Touryst, and it's still one of my favorite indie games! Kinda funny hearing that it's the only game that could run at 8K on the original PS5 lol
2 little tips for anyone that wants to make the process to transfer their ps4/ps5 data to a ps5 pro. Use a high speed ethernet cable connected to both consoles, that way you your getting the best speed possible and not need to relay on your router. Or if you have a secondary SSD on the ps5 you can completely transfer everything on your SSD to the new one if both are set up with the same psn account.
Great video!!! I am sticking with my base ps5, I have watched numerous videos and brake downs etc, and I honestly in 4 years have not once noticed a frame drop or have I ever played a game and thought man those graphics are terrible. I just plug and play. I was thinking about trading in my ps5 for a pro and it's just not worth it, to still have to pay 350, 400 or a very minimal upgrade definitely not for me
When you pulled out the clips for a side stand, I cringed. My standard PS5 came with a whole stand which looks nice and isn't 2 tiny clips. I love how this is the Pro that's $700 but comes with worse options than the standard no disc, no stand/side stand. Not really worth it. There's only like 5 games on their list that I would give a shit about playing again or seeing the graphics improvements.
My most modern non-nintendo console is a PS3 which I got exclusively to play Ni no Kuni. I built my PC to play Borderlands 2 back in 2012 and I've only upgraded it to a GTX 1660 Ti since then, just using it to play Warframe and light- to mid-weight indies. I don't feel like I'm missing anything from the current state of consoles, but I would sooner just upgrade my PC than buy a PS5 or Pro.
I also have my gripe with Sony about game saves and refused to pay, there’s a way through local network copy (system -> backup and restore -> select game saves only and select games individually) and you can select game saves individually, but it is a cumbersome process and if you want to synch up two consoles you’d have to do it every time
Hey friends! Just want to correct the record on the USB transfer - you can absolutely backup your PS5 saves locally. You have to select "Back up PS5" ins the settings and then it give you a check list of what you want to save/move over - game files, save data, screenshots/game capture videos. etc Otherwise as always love the video Bob, keep up the good work.
The rare win for Xbox is having free cloud storage between Xbox 360, One, and Series S/X. It saved my ass so many times when my VCR Xbox One kept dying in the middle of my Persona runs.
This video gave me the impression how evil Playstation is: -£700 new console with no significant improvement, totally unnecessary -Separate stand.... for the console to stand -Separate disc unit -Proprietary faceplates, they're just a piece of plastic -Charging for playing online -Charging to transfer saves and games to other console Plus ALL PS5 games can be played on PC, no thank you I'll stick with my steam deck
I would say it's like Steam releasing the Oled steam deck. Not necessary but there are improvements. Also the 1tb oled deck is $650. I have a launch Steam Deck and didn't buy the Oled. The PS5 Pro has 1tb more storage, and way more power. PS5 games are coming to PC but usually a year or more after release. You also don't have to pay to transfer saves and games to another console. You can use an external drive to do that. The stand isn't necessary. I have never bought a vertical stand for any other Playstation and they were also sold separately. The original PS5 is the only one that ever came with a vertical stand in the box.
You're not the target audience for this ( you've never been to begin with ) , simply don't buy the console or try better luck buying a PC to se how well that goes You're literally arguing with yourself
@@griffsgamestreams If someone has at least 12 full price games on Playstation, then it's worth it for them to buy this instead of a PC. Like do people not realize that people buy multi platform games on platforms other than PC? For an example of what I mean, I don't want to get a PC handheld right now because the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible. For me, that means the Switch 2 is worth more than any PC Handheld because my Switch has more games than I have on Steam. Like "oh yeah, don't spend $700 on this, spend $1,000 on a PC, then buy the same games that you already had, and restart those games from the beginning unless the dev adds cross platform saves."
I’m glad they made it and am certainly going to get one. Since the original PS5 launched you have had to choose between 4K 30fps and 2k 60fps for pretty much every first party Sony game. I’v tried for years to get used to 30fps for the better visuals but I just can’t do it. Finally I can enjoy BOTH. That to me is worth the upgrade especially because I’v been meaning to get another ps5 anyway.
@@mechanicalmonk2020 It has disappeared. The choices are either their due to the Base / Slim PS5 or they are giving like RT / Upscaling choices. Basically the choices are more specific but with less effect to the other choices in the category.

16:35 "it feels kinda nice to not have the framerate go from high to low so rapidly" Does your monitor have VRR? Because if you don't then yes just capping it will give you a better experience than if you didn't cap it.
While the examples are mentioned for console,
I have been:
-saving money yearly on not having to pay for a membership to play online ($80+ /yr)
-get games discounted through steam, EA/Origin, Epic, uplay, GOG, AND third party marketplaces such as g2a, cdkeys, greenmangaming, gamesplanet, etc
Spending $1300 on a pc, year after year for let's say 7 years, you save approximately $500-700 on annual memberships.

Well Sony is well out of luck cause ps5 has been jailbroken luckily for Microsoft they are secure and we have dev mode for emulation.

I was actually really eager to see what new amazing tech would be in the Pro, IMO its a great time to buy a PS5 slim , they are widely available, and for $500 bucks you cant go wrong.

#2 is accurate. being a casual gamer i have felt no need to buy a 4K TV and those i know don't have as well.

They also seem to forget the PS3 was $600...which is close to 1k by today's prices.
The console ecosystem as a whole is absolutely awful. Online? Pay for it. Cloud saves? Pay for it. Gpu upgrade? Replace your entire console lmao.

I wonder how the ecosystem would be if console gamers had a backbone. Still can't believe they think its a flex to pay for online...

That's a good internet meme
What's better than an overused meme? A poor recollection of one. 👌
I don't know why games can not be optimised better especially games on unreal 5 they look great but seem to be very hard to run on consoles. Playing battlefield 5 lately reminds me how good games looked without being super complicated so seeing as how an engine like that works great why can't they use ones like that and make slight improvements rather than always pushing boundaries as that seems to cause more problems than it is impressive to look at
Dude i wish I could forget the office existed too 😂

I'll... stick with my PS5 (and my decent PC) and wait for the PS6.
100% the PS5 Pro is an absolutely AWFUL product - 4 years after XSX/PS5, the pro is worth £400-450 and the base consoles £300-350.
that frustration with the ps plus stuff and cloud saves is so real man. i'm glad i dont have to worry about it when i upgrade my steam deck to the oled model whenever

The WiFi 7 is a huge plus. Was getting 78-100 mbps in my room on the base PS5. Pro gives me 350-440 mbps
@@LuckyLefty85
You only listed the downloading.

@briandprice81 all those games are on PC homie. I’m not missing any of those on the PS5 Pro, that I can’t do much better already.
@briandprice81 And the Sony games are already on PC...
Also HDMI 2.1 is more than enough for a 4K 120 hz and HDR gameplay.
HDMI 2.1 supports 48 GBPS bandwidth, that means it supports 4k up to 153 hz even on a 10 bit panel.
Did you mean to scare Spiderman when you said "pisser?"
I have a great TV, with 120 hrz and VRR support, but I have no interest in this upgrade. This generation from SONY has been frustrating for me. I don't see myself putting anymore money into Playstation after this gen. These console makers are making getting a PC more and more appealing.
Better use of funds... get a Sega Dreamcast. It has more exclusives than the ps5. And you dont need to drop $10 a month to transfer saves.😊
The Dreamcast has largely been stripped of most of its exclusives
@890Jacob And yet it still has more than the PS5 🤣

Uh while I'd be hard pressed to distinguish 1440p from 4k, I can immediately tell if a game runs at 1080p on my 55" TV. Not even remotely close.
So like I was playing Resident Evil 5 on PS3 and 720p was looking insanely good on a 50” 1080p at like 10-12 feet. Seriously though, if all games used Capcom’s MT Framework game engine I don’t think we would have ever needed to upgrade from PS3. XD
Sadly modern game engines are a total mess.
😂😂😂 if you can’t tell the difference from HD to 8k you may need some eye surgery my brother.
Go see an Optometrist IMMEDIATELY if you can't tell the difference between 1080p and 8K.

2 Million pixels vs 33 Million pixels is a night and day difference.
P.s. You need at least an 85 inch display in order for 8K to make an impact.
Not worth it, the PS4 Pro was justified for new 4K TVs expansion but the PS5 Pro has no real use cases
Dude. To transfer from your old PS5 to the Pro, you can literally just move all your games onto the SSD and then put that SSD into the Pro. It just works. No transfer via wifi necessary.
I was thinking the same.

Pisser "PSSR" at work 😂 little bit of beer came out of my nose because of the off guard caught laughing 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 thanks for that joke 🙏🏻
Also professional film cameras have global shutter so they don't look like the example shown
Great review bro. I do have a 120htz 4K tv. I'm struggling to find a reason to justify the pro
If Sony had of left the disc drive and the stand in the box, it would have been a no brainer for me, but the way it is now is a $200.00 rip off.
I bought a PS5 Pro, I stalled 1 game out of box, Overwatch 2. Game/PS5 Pro crashed and didn't restart. Had to turn it back on again. Happened in every game I tested after. How did this pass QA?

The best part is where Sony and third parties will never release games on PlayStation ever again.
That’s the only way what you say makes sense.
When you have to squint to see the difference, you know they've hit a wall.
I also have my gripe with Sony about game saves and refused to pay, there’s a way through local network copy (system -> backup and restore -> select game saves only and select games individually) and you can select game saves individually, but it is a cumbersome process and if you want to synch up two consoles you’d have to do it every time
Sony really should have leaned into the increased FPS, not the improved graphics.
That's what they did tho
Had all my games on a m 2 SSD on my OG ps5 took that out and put it in the pro and instantly had all my games 👍🏽

-Separate stand.... for the console to stand
-Separate disc unit
-Proprietary faceplates, they're just a piece of plastic
-Charging for playing online
-Charging to transfer saves and games to other console
Plus ALL PS5 games can be played on PC, no thank you I'll stick with my steam deck
