Pregnancy yoga to induce labour / prepare your body to birth

  • This class was made in response to the following message...
"I'm 40 +2 days pregnant and my doctor is starting to talk about induction. Is there any yoga to induce labour? I've been trying all the things but so far nothing has worked. I'm so ready to not be pregnant anymore but I really don't want an induction because I've heard it makes labour more painful - please help!"
Do I have a magic yoga pose or position that cause labour to start? Oh how I wish I did! I would be rich if I had a dollar for every time a woman in the last few days of pregnancy asked me for this secret!
Unfortunately, (or really fortunately), our bodies are perfectly designed to go into labour exactly when they are meant to. It's not a flaw that your body still hasn't gone into labour at 40 +2. This isn't a mistake. It isn't a sign that it's never going to happen. It's simply a sign that your body is not ready yet. It is waiting for the perfect time. Only your body knows exactly when this is.
Oxytocin receptor cells increase during pregnancy and peak during labour. This is an important part of the process and trying to hurry it along by medical intervention (or all the old wives tales) is usually met with no result - or a potentially prolonged labour for pushing the body into something it wasn't ready for.
Instead of spending the last few days of your pregnancy looking for the magic cure that will kickstart your labour, I would like to encourage you to instead spend your time preparing your body (and your mind) for birth.

I LOVED this practice! It felt so much like the regular practices I was doing before I got pregnant. 🙏

This was so calming after waking up super stressed out about the prospect of induction tomorrow. Whatever happens I'm glad I had this time to clear my head x

Thank you for this lovely practice, it was so calming and relaxing. Also I really appreciate all of your advice for increasing oxytocin, I’m definitely going to focus on that as well as the movement. 40 weeks tomorrow and feeling ready!!

I’m 39 weeks and 3 days today. I abit worried that my baby will come later than the due date and the doctors may suggest medical intervention for some reasons and it’s really hard to argue with them because anyway I can’t say that I know everything about birth ☹️ Thank you Bettina for another great class! 🥰

A good question to ask is “what happens if we wait?” If their answer gives you a reason to induce because baby or yourself are at risk - then absolutely induce. If there is no reason you can ask to wait and reassess in a few days.

Can I use this in my last weeks of pregnancy or is that too early? I'm 35+2 now ❤️

You sure can. It’s great prep for birth. Doesn’t matter if you’re a few weeks off yet.
