unlikely the nursing home families can as he was acting for the state (though they can likely sue the state), but any victims that claim he did something can go after him civilly and the state can charge him criminally.

If more prominent Republicans had pressured Trump to drop out of the race back in 2016 when all the accusations came to light, he wouldn't have had a "choice." The double standard exists because one party excuses this kind of behavior (and worse) when it comes to Trump. Not to mention their pathetic refusal to stand up to his big lie concerning the 2020 election.

There was no attorney general investigation that found Trump indeed guilty. No one had painted Trump as a hero. With Trump what you see is what you get. Trump WAS the leader of his party rather than being asked to resign by the leader of his party.
Those are obvious differences between the two situations.

I’m all for a thorough investigation into his handling of the nursing home deaths. Especially when he had a US naval ship at his disposal in the harbor. But that would have meant accepting help from a political foe that he hated.
