The roof was not unprotected, they clearly stated a local officer was on the roof but retreated when the gunman pointed his rifle at him. There was confused communication between Secret Service and the local officer who knew what was happening. The local resources seem to have failed more than the secret service. It wasn't thaat far and a sniper rifle is basically an AR but a different calibre and semi. The concept stays the same. The footage of someone on a water tower could be anything, likely just some artifacts of something. All he did is hate trump, got a little too angry over it so he just went up there and tried to assassinate Trump. easy. If the current president tried to pull it off then it would've succeeded, trust me on that one. People only believe what they want to be true. Confirmation bias. It's a simple case that's being put out of proportions.

If anything they’re lucky that the shooter was as unprofessional as them because Trump was so exposed after the initial shoot that if the guy was a professional he would have easily gotten him on a second try. They let Trump do his show FOREVER after the shooting, they’re supposed to take him out immediately, he’s no longer the boss at this point, the men and women protecting him are his bosses and he doesn’t get to wave his arms to the audience or whatever. They’re also not equipped with the tools that would allow them to hide the person behind a black screen to blind the shooter. As soon as I saw the images I was shocked at how bad these people’s work was and how exposed Trump was through the whole thing. Some of them even hide instead of protecting.

One thing they didn’t mention is the short female SS Agent. The female barely reached Trump’s chest and ducked her head almost under Trump’s arm. The tall men stood with their heads high. Get rid of the DEI SS Agents. One of the females even drew her holster with the pistol in it, when Trump was already in a bullet proof vehicle, pathetic job all around and that’s not true about SS Agents standing next to police officers during a protective detail. There is a separation between Federal Police and local police. The SS think they are above local police officers and the officers are thinking these pampered agents have never made a Felony arrest. It’s very obvious the two groups of officers don’t get along.

I think this exposes another problem which is the divide between police/security and civilians. I’ve noticed throughout my life that many police officers feel that civilians can’t do their job and don’t know what they are talking about. This probably comes from the fact that they deal with BS calls and nonsense from people and after awhile they stop taking anything civilians say seriously. I bet that officer just brushed off the guy and figured he was calling out a cameraman or something that wasn’t worth looking into. It’s partly an understandable divide but it’s also partly an ego and arrogance issue. Officers don’t want someone else doing their job for them but sometimes you need everyone’s eyes and ears to do the job properly, and you risk things like this by not listening and following up.

From what I've heard, the local police were the ones notified by members of the public, and they did in fact, take those reports seriously. That's exactly why there was a cop who climbed the ladder to see what was going on on the roof.
Otherwise, you're point is well founded.
About a year ago, I had several interactions with someone acting very suspicious in my neighborhood, all within the space of a few hours. I called in to 911 immediately after the first two incidents, and after the third, I drove to the station and talked to the chief. At one point, with a very accusatory tone, he asked why it took me so long to report them?! When I reminded him that I had already called it in twice, and had the phone logs to prove it, and had gone out of my way to come to the station and talk to someone higher up the chain after the 3rd incident, only then did he back down and stop treating me like the bad guy.
