- How to add Salt to a Bosch Dishwasher to prevent Limescale build up.
If you live in a hard water area adding Dishwasher Salt to your Bosch Dishwasher is essential to prevent limescale build up.
In this video I will show you how to remove the Bosch Dishwasher Salt Lid (it can be stiff) and then fill the salt on the Bosch Dishwasher. Don't worry if your Bosch Dishwasher Salt compartment is full of water, this is normal.

Very helpful. Unfortunately, my grip is rubbish, since I have arthritis and the resevoir cap on my machine refuses to budge. I really like Bosch product, but I wish they had put a bit more thought into this. Maybe I don't need to fret, though, as where I live the water is pretty soft. Calcium build up is never a problem for me. Still I hate that nagging light and I have a bag of salt taking up space in my cupboard.
Try wrapping a tea towel around it then turning, that may help. Or you can get grip openers for jars etc so maybe try those. We have to have Salt as we live in a very hard water area, lots of lime and chalk.

Thank you so much for this informative video. My second dishwasher salt dispenser no water inside. Not sure of what to do. The old one was like this few years ago, i called a technician who told me it bad and i had to get rid of it to buy a new one. This new one is Siemens and it's just 4 years old . I tried to fi in salt and noticed there is no water in the dispenser. I will be very happy if you help. I can't afford to buy a new one again. Thank you!
Maybe the salt dispenser setting is on very low so it isn't using it?
If it is broken then you can always use the 3 in 1 tablets which contain salt. Not as good as salt dispenser but saves you buying a new dishwasher.

I added salt to the salt container at the first time i bought my bosch 2 years earlier..till now the warning light has not turned on!!..is it normal?!!..water hardness in my region is moderate and i use my dishwasher about 10times in a month.
I should imagine the Sensor is broken. It will always use Salt. If you've never set the water hardness it will be set to Medium and will use salt. Just top it up anyway.

My bosh doesn't have a salt reservoir.. can I still do something to "add" salt each time I run it? or???
That’s very unusual not to have a Salt reservoir, how odd. You can use the 3 in 1 pods which contain all the elements you need.
How much salt should i add? Fill to top or refill everytime? I refill everytime, how much salt should be added?
No need, we top ours up about once a month and our dishwasher is on daily.

You don’t have to but it does help the cleaning. Some of the pods do 3 in 1 which is cleaner, rinse aid and salt so no need to do any. But I prefer using the reservoirs.

How often should it be refilled?
Depends. If you use it daily then probably once every 2-3 months. Some Dishwashers you can adjust the amount of salt used so it can go quicker on a higher setting.
Nice video except it is not explaining how to add the salt to the dishwasher model SHX68T55UC which doesn't have the filling cap, the bottom is solid SS.

Not all dishwashers have built-in water softening units. It is not common for dishwashers to have this in the U.S. (it is in Europe.) I imagine this is the case in some other countries as well.
The US doesn't know what that salt it about. My bosch has no salt well. What's it do?
It’s for our hard chalky water, helps soften it and stop limescale building up.
Not sure why my SHEM78ZH5N doesn’t have the salt reservoir in the bottom
If you live in a country that has soft water your Dishwasher may not have a Salt Reservoir as it's not needed.
What if there’s no reservoir? Is there still a way to add salt? We have very hard water!

I am very surprised by that. Try finding a manual for it online to double check. If it hasn’t got one then ideally use the 3 in 1 tablets which have salt built in.
