I replayed the hell out of the remake and it wasn't the same. I'd kill to experience this for the first time again. This is my favorite game series hands-down.

actually they Did make 2 new games after GU but never came out of Japan, ".hack//LINK" (sorta a series Crossover conglomeration in the style of ProjectXZone but any&everything .hack from teh first Manga to end of GU and it's manga.) it was for the Sony PSP (playable on the PSP1000(JP) 1001 (international only w/ CFW ) and .hack//VERSUS (was bundled w. that OVA-Movie and was for the PS3, it's a Fighter w/ various famous characters from each series in the franchise upto the end of //LINK for GU Chars like Ovan, Haseo they use thier end-forms (ovan's AIDA-ARM unlocke din his Special Mode and haseo transforms to his "Xth" form in his Special, and Yes Kite's in it but has Some "Azure Kite" Moves (there may/maynot be Azute Kite in it too. my PC is way too potato to run it past 12fps in the PS3 Emulator) Kite will have Azure's Blue Flames Mode which increases his Attack damage and Speed for a short time, and Does have Data Drain. any GU Character is temp-turned into a Chim-Chim and takes a flat 25% of health of dmg) there IS an untitled Project in the works from CyberConnect2 at the time they gave us the English trailer some months ago that only bares the .hack project name so either A: its IMOQ's remastering possibly? or something entirely New.
The G.U series was my all time favorite of the .Hack saga. I fell in love with the storyline and the characters and would LOVE to see more of them, especially haseo and atoli.
Haseo apart from possessing an Xth form that literally with that already would make shit kirito, has SKEITH and the data drain that also gave Aura, is very broken. LOL
Here's to one of the greatest anime/manga/game series of all time! The games may no longer be the same, but it was a great ride, the thrill of fighting the phases of Morgana from the first 4, the incredible story behind it also. The troubles of a young man wanting to help his friend and get revenge only to find something more than he hoped for, along with the changing of his personality and it's great story. May they be forever remembered in our lives and the next!
Well, that's true, specially GU's characters. However, if you mean on how well developed they were, I think in both stories the characters were really well done. I find a fatal flaw in SAO, though, and that is they neglected the plot factor in favor of characters. While SAO's plot is incredibly simple and straightforward, .Hack's plots are full of mystery. That's what makes .Hack far superior to SAO, IMO, even though both were pretty enjoyable stories.
Your brother is just a gaming nerd then. SAO is a fan catering anime which obviously attracts gamers. But I for one am not that stupid to fall for that. For SAO - 1.The way to beat the game is stupid - Bosses don't respawn,you just need other players to beat them for you. 2.The game is not really dangerous - Don't do anything and you're safe. 3.The characters make no sense - I don't have enough space to write 4.The game mechanics are stupid - Same here.

Meh, as a fairly big .Hack fan, and my brother being a much bigger one, we disagree, its a great series, and brought back memories of .Hack. But, obviously, everyone has an opinion, its just a bit surprising a fan of .Hack wouldn't like SAO.
tbh, even though I love .Hack more than I like SAO, I'd be more leaned to play SAO more than "The World." In SAO, they challenged you to clear the 100 floors of Aincrad, but in "The World" there isn't a real objective. So, unless they gave players in "The World" an objective other than "Being the very best" or "Hanging out with friends," which unfortunately is what most MMOs are about, I'd stick with the offline versions.
@HackLiminality Watching the movie I didn't get mad at all. I like the fact that they took different directions but stuck to the same plot. I was a little unset they ignored the recoil effect from the use of Rebirth but I still loved the ending of the movie. (not going to say much more in case of spoiler)

Supposedly, he really didn't make it up too far into the game, and using prior knowledge of mob attacks isn't really as big a deal as its made out to be, without it, many more people would've died since they lost their commander. I don't remember his specifically hunting people who are cheating, other then when he hunted for people who are dying inside towns (which lets anyone in the game die where they should be safe).

Also, I'll have to take back what I said about SAO. I just watched it recently. For the SAO world, I really like the idea about the floors. Also the no-class system seems quite interestening for me. In terms of setting, I'd still prefer .hack though. And that what would make my decision still fall for .hack. I just prefer it more than the typical fantasy world of SAO.

But there isn't a single shred of sadness in this rendition, the memories are still there, the wounds have left their scars. - Every single problem in the game is based on the exact same thing. Not being able to use of crystals. There are crystals to teleport or heal and if for any reason they can’t use them, tragedy occurs. It becomes predictable early on and so every time someone shows or talks about crystals, get ready for something stupid to happen.
Part 2 It'll never be that good if you constantly compare it to .Hack, and we treat it like we haven't even heard of .Hack before, and just enjoy it without comparisons. I cannot and will not say that it is better or worse than .Hack because of that. Im not quite sure why I would elaborate on random points, since you'll find some 100x better then mine on the Internet. It's enjoyable, and easy to get into, frankly, if you don't want to spend hours arguing over it, and i dont, this is all you need
As for not all .hack fans not caring about plot and characters, you haven't seen my brother when he used to just slave over that game and everything about it, while I haven't read manga/novels except for one, I personally loved listening to the plot and understanding the characters, spending some hours looking stuff up to "read deeper" or understand some things/gain additional backstory. It's a good series because it brings back the general theme as .Hack, but it isn't a carbon copy. No space :C
I wish CC2 would just make a proper MMORPG of The World R:2 already. Seriously, just base "The World" off of G.U. and make the damn game. So much of the code they would need already exists in the G.U. games, so what's the damn problem?

The game is dangerous because their bodies cannot be kept alive in a hospital forever, and if they just sit there and don't do anything, they spent their entire lives in the game, away from their families and friends. 3. Kirito - Main Character, was the Best Beta Tester with the highest reaction speed (gives ability to dual wield), he was able to use his knowledge to level up fast and over the course of the years (their time in SAO was 2-3 Yrs) became one of the best players, And no space :C

actually, dot hack takes place in many settings such as shown in liminality, you don't know all the chapter s and its one big puzzle revolving around an AI named aura that can affect reality along with morganna AI and AIDA, the world aka the game is just her home, you need to pay close attention to dialogue to get clues from the animes, and dot hack has a novel i believe

Yes and no The great thing about SAO is that it not all powers, everything they do, can be done in both their avatar & real bodies .Hack the 8 phase are only in "The World" but DO have enough power to harm someone in the real world. I think that SAO has enough depth to the characters to match the .hack characters despite the fact that SAO only has the LT novels and 25 anime episodes as .hack has over 8 games, manga & over 100s of episodes. Part 3, weeeee... Which Game Mechanics, in specific, I know you didnt have space, but do tell. I'm assuming you aren't watching SAO, and only saw the first episode or so, so I'm assuming the mechanics you speak of are abilities/eating, I don't remember the first episode completely, but I believe you were supposed to hold the position you would be in the start the ability, then when you feel the power pulsing, you let the system guide your attacks, I do not remember, so this probably isn't true..

Just watched Hack Quantum and wow! Where has this been all this time lol. To bad it was only a 3 eps OVA though. It was just starting to get interesting. Anyways haven't seen this one yet though have to check it out.

I didn't watched GU Trilogy, since I thought they just took cutscenes from the .hack//GU games. But I never really try to bother myself watching it. I don't know, I seem already satisfied with the game myself.
That's not how MMO's work nowadays, sadly. Seen a few of them take a turn for the worse, for me at least. And just since people started crying over things, which made the game "harder". I see no way, a guild like Moon Tree could prevent PKing enough to make people stop complaining about it. Especially if being PKd doesnt just mean you'll respawn right away. But you'll lose items and such. That's what I've seen. Sadly. And I'd be probably out there fighting in the Arena.
Ah but then you would have guilds like Moon Tree spring up and perhaps even PKKers. That interesting dynamic would make getting PKed worth it a few times for me. (Then I would become a PKKer myself. ^^)
i totally agree with you ^^ some anime i watched in dubb (just for laugh) were as good as the original version ( for exemple full metal alchemist dubbed in french was as good that the japanese one the voice were almost the same xD) Still i usually stick to watch the series in its original language ( for exemple avatar the last air bender or ben10 totally sucked in french dubbing and i'd rathr not talk about kim possible dubbed in japanese ^^ sometimes some things are better left untranslated)
- The fighting is heavily based on “switching”, meaning to jump back and forth while waiting for your attacks to cool down and allowing your team mates to storm in without you standing in their way. This makes each battle to feel silly for being based too much on tag in and tag out of battle.

- Every single problem in the game is based on the exact same thing. Not being able to use of crystals. There are crystals to teleport or heal and if for any reason they can’t use them, tragedy occurs. It becomes predictable early on and so every time someone shows or talks about crystals, get ready for something stupid to happen.

It'll never be that good if you constantly compare it to .Hack, and we treat it like we haven't even heard of .Hack before, and just enjoy it without comparisons. I cannot and will not say that it is better or worse than .Hack because of that. Im not quite sure why I would elaborate on random points, since you'll find some 100x better then mine on the Internet. It's enjoyable, and easy to get into, frankly, if you don't want to spend hours arguing over it, and i dont, this is all you need
As for not all .hack fans not caring about plot and characters, you haven't seen my brother when he used to just slave over that game and everything about it, while I haven't read manga/novels except for one, I personally loved listening to the plot and understanding the characters, spending some hours looking stuff up to "read deeper" or understand some things/gain additional backstory. It's a good series because it brings back the general theme as .Hack, but it isn't a carbon copy. No space :C

I wish CC2 would just make a proper MMORPG of The World R:2 already. Seriously, just base "The World" off of G.U. and make the damn game. So much of the code they would need already exists in the G.U. games, so what's the damn problem?
2. The game is dangerous because their bodies cannot be kept alive in a hospital forever, and if they just sit there and don't do anything, they spent their entire lives in the game, away from their families and friends.
3. Kirito - Main Character, was the Best Beta Tester with the highest reaction speed (gives ability to dual wield), he was able to use his knowledge to level up fast and over the course of the years (their time in SAO was 2-3 Yrs) became one of the best players, And no space :C

actually, dot hack takes place in many settings such as shown in liminality, you don't know all the chapter s and its one big puzzle revolving around an AI named aura that can affect reality along with morganna AI and AIDA, the world aka the game is just her home, you need to pay close attention to dialogue to get clues from the animes, and dot hack has a novel i believe

The great thing about SAO is that it not all powers, everything they do, can be done in both their avatar & real bodies
.Hack the 8 phase are only in "The World" but DO have enough power to harm someone in the real world.
I think that SAO has enough depth to the characters to match the .hack characters despite the fact that SAO only has the LT novels and 25 anime episodes as .hack has over 8 games, manga & over 100s of episodes.

Which Game Mechanics, in specific, I know you didnt have space, but do tell. I'm assuming you aren't watching SAO, and only saw the first episode or so, so I'm assuming the mechanics you speak of are abilities/eating, I don't remember the first episode completely, but I believe you were supposed to hold the position you would be in the start the ability, then when you feel the power pulsing, you let the system guide your attacks, I do not remember, so this probably isn't true..

Just watched Hack Quantum and wow! Where has this been all this time lol. To bad it was only a 3 eps OVA though. It was just starting to get interesting. Anyways haven't seen this one yet though have to check it out.

It was probably his love for Asuna that saved him, same thing vice versa with the paralysis, and all the standard cheesy stuff pretty much required in any thing these days that involves love, were you seriously surprised by it?
I didn't watched GU Trilogy, since I thought they just took cutscenes from the .hack//GU games. But I never really try to bother myself watching it. I don't know, I seem already satisfied with the game myself.

That's not how MMO's work nowadays, sadly. Seen a few of them take a turn for the worse, for me at least. And just since people started crying over things, which made the game "harder". I see no way, a guild like Moon Tree could prevent PKing enough to make people stop complaining about it. Especially if being PKd doesnt just mean you'll respawn right away. But you'll lose items and such.
That's what I've seen. Sadly. And I'd be probably out there fighting in the Arena.

i totally agree with you ^^ some anime i watched in dubb (just for laugh) were as good as the original version ( for exemple full metal alchemist dubbed in french was as good that the japanese one the voice were almost the same xD)
Still i usually stick to watch the series in its original language ( for exemple avatar the last air bender or ben10 totally sucked in french dubbing and i'd rathr not talk about kim possible dubbed in japanese ^^ sometimes some things are better left untranslated)

This is one of my favorite RPGs ever, I'd say #2 😊 fantastic soundtrack
- The fighting is heavily based on “switching”, meaning to jump back and forth while waiting for your attacks to cool down and allowing your team mates to storm in without you standing in their way. This makes each battle to feel silly for being based too much on tag in and tag out of battle.
