I love how most of these tips are also applicable to modern farming games! HM64 really served as a stepping stone for most cozy games! I don't check the weather channel in games but I will do it here! Typhoons are terrible in this game! Thanks for the tips, Josh!
I have a few notes. For the Goddess wishes, weather does nothing. Wishing for girls is random, won't always be who likes you the most. And the power berry from wishing for strength requires full stamina AND zero fatigue. Offering milk works as well as the other items mentioned. "Festival rain" will not make animals sick/angry. An alternative cure for cow sickness is to hit them with a tool until they get mad. Drawback to this is they stay mad for 3 days, instead of going back to normal right away with the medicine, as well as additional player happiness loss. Grass can't be harvested in winter, but it is still there, unseen. You can leave cows and sheep outside on sunny winter days, if you have some fully grown grass. And the invisible eaten grass will regrow as well. Despite dialogue saying that they will, the harvest sprites do not feed your animals during typhoons or any other time. The Karen dog glitch doesn't work if your dog's affection is high. It's possible to have a fixed and broken music box at the same time. But make sure you give away the fixed one before you talk to Rick! If he attempts to fix your broken box when you already have a fixed one in your inventory, you'll break the cycle and not be able to fix boxes anymore. Okay, that's enough nitpicking (and I hope you don't mind). Still a great video and I hope it inspires more people to play my favorite game in the series!
Makes sense why I didn't get any change after 10 minutes of Karen hating on my dogs intelligence. I loved him too quickly and it made the glitch impossible.
@@SamVanDam oh ok that makes sense cuz I went back on and it worked with my new save. But I also had no idea I could dump something I harvest into the fountain and get a boost from the goddess so it's like a whole new game to me. I played when I was 6 I'm 30 now so it's exciting
@@songsthatarecatchythere is a free one on iTunes Store or buy a hardcover. I started tearing up when I saw Harvest Moon 64. I am 35. and I missed this game so much. Mathew Gerry is my hero
This'll be handy for those going into the game for the first time, or after a while. Also, should I add something? There's a climbable tree near the carpenter's place, which will help you get to the top of Moon Mtn. (It also helps for a certain event later.) Try heading up there around early Fall before the Harvest Festival. ;)
This takes me back so much I love this game. I remember when I had no school I would play this game during vacations and mess around a bit, like when you talked about the free water I suddenly remember I’d just order and order it multiple times a day; or see what would happen if I slept all the way through all the years without getting progress on the farm and just go to festivals. Or romance a different girl next time. Or hoard so much gold and sell stuff from the mines and be rich lol
Great video! I didn't know you could bottle milk your cow repeatedly despite how much I've played this game, but I definitely took advantage of the free wine to decimate the competition on new years. I wanted to add a tip of my own that works due to quick saves: weather control! When you sleep, the weather for the next day (the day after the one you're about to start) is decided. Quick save before you go to bed, sleep, then check the forecast. If you're not happy with the next day's weather, load and sleep again until satisfied. No more typhoons!
@@JoshGamingGarden definitely! I hated typhoons. I've used this for trying to get rain before, and that is VERY tedious. Best just to use it for no typhoons.
Thank for you these tips! I've never played before and started playing it and couldn't stop! It's crazy addicting even for an older game. I'm always like "ok just one more day and do this and this" over and over lol
This is an awesome video! You give so many good tips and advice! I just recently remembered about Harvest Moon 64 and how much I enjoyed playing this game, and I searched for videos online, and to my surprise, I find this excellent video uploaded just a few weeks ago! It's great how people have not forgotten about this game! 👍😃
Awesome video - much appreciated. One thing I will add is that it takes the game longer to load outside. So it's a good idea to do all of the shipping in any shipping bins for the Barn, Coop, or Greenhouse since you're constantly reloading the zone.
One I wish someone told me before: Don't waste time planting flowers on your farm UNTIL you win the Sea Festival prize. The katori prize will actually greatly reduce the chances of enduring a typhoon. Meaning if you happen to buy a greenhouse AND plant flowers to get the marbles from Stu, both of them could possibly be destroyed after a typhoon. Had to learn this the hard way. One time, I even had TWO typhoon storms back to back! I was so upset, but luckily none of my animals died somehow.
Thank you for the video!! I'm currently playing this game for the first time on the Switch and it felt a bit overwhelming at first, but now I'm getting the hang of it! your tips will be very helpful!
Thank you so much for making this! I just recently started diving into HM64 and have been mostly surviving off my friends memories of playing on the N64 since so many systems are opaque haha. I'd love to see more videos like this from you!
Incredible video, see some of this beautiful game today. About the GreenHouse I had heard that if you were friends with the elves they would protect the greenhouse from electrical storms.
There's no penalty for staying up super late. As long as you go to bed before 6am you get the full night sleep. If you eat a medical herb you won't get sick. As long as you have one of those you can stay up all night every night to do farm work.
Hoping that the FoMT enter the catalog after these two, or at least the GBC versions, the GBC 3 was a really good game with the boy and girl variant of farmer and rancher centered gameplay
Thank you thank you for the tip about the controls! I was losing my mind because it was makng me use the right bumper in order to backpack my items! I was even looking into trying to remap buttons on the Switch controllers. I also appreciate the tip about the music box because I didn't know that you could just till another square and then try again. o.o I got that bug the last time I played and was thinking I was going nuts not remembering where the spot was. Haha!
Ahhh this makes me want to play! I had to take a break cause the controls were SO CONFUSING! Your video helped a lot though thank you! I also had no idea about the glass jar and milk?? 🥛 it’s been like 15 years and I had no clue lol
I wish I saw this before I started playing !! Haven't played since the 2000's and returning back to my favorite game :) I had to google the controls and it was confusing at first. Got used to it now though.
I’ve gotten sick twice and it really messed me up. It caused me to return the cows to the farmer guy in terrible condition and I didn’t get whatever he was gonna pay with me. I’ll definitely be eating medicinal herbs nightly now.
I LOVED this game. But after playing any modern farming game, especially Stardew Valley, it is SOOO hard to enjoy this game. I really wish the devs would remake these older Harvest Moon games with modern quality of life features.
12:36 you can actually buy multiple animal meds per day, it restocks after you use it on an animal (still annoying you cant buy more than 1 at a time, and have to do a full round trip)
This is something I remember in the past for HM64, you could go to the bakery and buy an egg from there and then Incubate the egg to get a Chicken, it would save you a lot of money. Again though this was when the game first came out I don't even know if it was this game or not that you could do it.
I would love to hear any more tips you have! This'll be my first time playing this game, and even if it is similar to friend of mineral town, any new tricks would be welcome.
Did you know how to use the save states to cheese the weather for the day after next. Just create one before going to bed, then check the tv, if the weather is not what you want just load the save state then go to bed until you get the weather you want.
I grew up playing Harvest Moon Back to Nature, as it was the reason, I fell in love with farming games. I even still emulate it on my phone from time to time. How similar is 64 from BTN on the PS one?
BTN is a new game with the same characters and graphics as HM64. The characters had the same names but had some changes like different families, different personalities, etc. For example, Karen is very unfriendly in HM64 at first and is much nicer in BTN. Think of HM64 as a simplified BTN because they expanded on a lot of things when BTN was made. By no means does it make HM64 a boring game without enough content though. It's definitely worth a full playthrough!
Another tip not mentioned. Win that first swim race to get the invincible katori. It's important because it keeps your greenhouse from being destroyed during typhoons
PS1's "Harvest Moon: Back to Nature" is expansion from this game where the town and mountain areas are redesigned to be more accessible, days are longer and you can example make chicken feed from your corn cobs
Perfecto - Thanks for this!
I totally picked up a physical copy of HM 64 and have been replaying this week.
Nice! Have fun!

I don't check the weather channel in games but I will do it here! Typhoons are terrible in this game! Thanks for the tips, Josh!
More games should make the weather channel actually useful! There are so many little details in HM64 that I'd love to see in modern games.

@Steelerfanskates I think it works if she says "doesn't seem too clever" and doesn't work if she says "it seems to have smartened up quite a bit"
@@SamVanDam oh ok that makes sense cuz I went back on and it worked with my new save. But I also had no idea I could dump something I harvest into the fountain and get a boost from the goddess so it's like a whole new game to me. I played when I was 6 I'm 30 now so it's exciting

9:51 Cows and Sheep sometimes get a HUGE happiness bump if they graze outside so it’s beneficial to do it sometimes.
Yess! They'll suddenly have that giddy, happy face! I'd almost forgotten!
