      Racism is about power, wealth, and control... I'm so sick of people always talking about "ignorance" and "hatred"
      The people that created the racist system were educated and intelligent. They created the racist system to use lesser whites to help oppress other races (namely Black people) for them.

    I wish they would've talked about systemic racism and not just interpersonal prejudice. There's a huge difference between everyday people treating one differently because of your skin color and there being a system in place where one is at a disadvantage because of the color of ones skin. As a talk show with all women of color, I'm glad they're beginning to talk about these things and I'm interested in seeing how far these conversations of isms will go.

      +Isha King I agree. This segment was a bit disappointing but hopefully it's only the beginning and they'll have deeper and more expansive conversations about race in the future. Honestly, from the way Adam was talking and Tamera was agreeing with him, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even believe in or acknowledge systemic racism...

      Isha King, Good point and I like the way you think. But I highly doubt it they will go deeper. Many find it uncomfortable, so they just scratch the surface. These four women are good woman and also smart, but they are not the kind that will dig deep into issues whether it is Politics or Race. It takes a very special different kind of women. The kind of Women that lead the "Civil Right Movement" and the "Revolution", and "Challenged Slavery and fought to abolish it". They were soldiers of their time and we are now enjoying the Fruit of their labor. Few examples: Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Sojourner Truth, Ella Baker, Daisy Bates, Mary McLeod Bethune, and Maya Angelou, just to name a few:)!

    I can relate and understand what Tamera is talking about because I'm black and my parents talked to me about racism and they told me about certain issues that I will deal with on being black in America and the black experience such as driving while black, shopping while black, and I have to work really hard while black and my parents also taught me how to respond to the police when I'm confronted with one. I'm glad that the real is talking about real issues this season.

  • @anaointa

    People who say that they don't see color don't necessarily say it with any racial bias undertones, but this is honestly a very problematic and unfortunately overused phrase. When people say things like this, and how we are all one human race, it takes away diversity. Race includes culture, language... basically all that is different about us. We SHOULD see color but not discriminate against it. Let people know that this isn't an OK thing to say, but do so gently as I'm sure when they say it, they mean no harm and only want to convey that they don't judge anyone because of their skin tone.

      Right i like adam but i think its a cliche answer because he might not but other people do and will say something and the real is a couple people might say something to their daughter .I think even if they teach her things she will still get hurt by things said you cant protect her from that

    If you wait to talk to your children about race (as a black person), that means you probably aren't teaching them their history and ancestors, which is very important. Don't let these public schools teach your child about being black before you get a chance to do it. Teach them from day one to be proud of who they are and how they look, and teach them to respect people's differences. There are different races and ethnicities and nationalities in this world, and there's nothing wrong with that. I don't believe that children should be blind to that until something bad happens, but hey, you raise your kids how you want to, but I will make sure that when my child runs into some racism, they won't have to ask me what happened, you'll already know how to react.

    i remeber being 7 years old and i went roller skating with my friend, who happened to be white. as a kid (military kid at that), color was not often a big deal. u really do only see people. but anways, another friend said, "i didn't know your mom was white". she wasn't of course it was my friends mom. but i remember thinking, "so what if she was?" mainly cuz "white" wasnt how i saw them at all. i just wonder why other kids get color stuck in their brain so young.
    and also my baby cousin years ago said, "i hate white people". i firmly said ( and i was barely a tween. lol) "do not ever say that again. that is not nice &there is no reason to feel like that. " its so sad how adults make their kids minds toxic.

    Such a fluff answer. I expected a bit more thought and not the regular "we don't see color" and "this generation is not like that" nonsense. They should address how they'll talk to their kids about violence and systematic issues, which are more relevant and problematic than some kid calling you the n word

    • @shellyb6926
      @shellyb6926 9 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      +Fidelis Wambui that kind of deep discussion will probably never happen on this show...they're really shallow when it comes to topics of race.

      1GoldRunner I appreciate color. Its beautiful and important, and I want people to recognize mine. My color represents a part of my culture and experiences, as I'm sure yours does. The problem arises when we subject people to systematic abuse, discrimination and all that due to color.... And as parents to a young boy who will most likely experience these issues, they should be more aware and more prepared.

    • @Deli_88

    Like Tamara said she has such a blended family from Filipino, Black, white etc. honestly I think when people come from backgrounds like that it's hard for them to be racist because they're interacting with people of different races and maybe even religions. For me I think I'm the same way, I was blessed to have a family from different religious and racial backgrounds its hard to realize that there are people in the world who don't like a certain group of people because of the color of their skin and they raise their kids with the same ignorant mindset. With me I am Black and Yemeni and I have cousins who are Japanese and Yemeni mixed, Polish and Black mixed, Puerto-Rican and Black mixed and so on. it's really a beautiful thing to see to different cultures merge together and I really feel sad for people who don't see the beauty of diversity.

      Prejudice is a mindset, and is not an action.

    • @perpetuainmotion
      @perpetuainmotion 9 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      You're right about prejudice but racism is a system based on advantage. If you dont benefit, you can't be racist. If everyone could be racist then there wouldn't be a system. Kind of like how the KKK is still a thing but the Black Panthers got dismantled by the FBI. If you dont agree, thats fine.

    • @perpetuainmotion
      @perpetuainmotion 9 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Also what you're entailing is that reverse racism is a thing which its not. Racism, just like race is a man made concept but it still defines our culture and society. Racism in America was made to benefit white people, it was not made to benefit all people. So it cant go in any other directions. I guess a way to think about it is would a slave be racist cause he hated all white people? vs. would a slave master be racist if he hated all black people? who systematically benefits from the hatred? Just my insight, Im interested in things like this so i do my research and create analogies.

It doesn't have to be as explicit as someone being a KKK member or calling people the n word, racism is ingrained in our society, just look at how horribly misrepresented people of color are in the media and on television. We teach kids to stereotype and many people, whether they are aware they do it or not, have implicit biases towards minorities.

    I still remember two cases from my childhood concerning race. 1) I was 4, in 1995, and a mixed race couple moved into our neighborhood. Our right side neighbors stopped talking to us bc we befriended them, our left side neighbor (he was 50 and a war vet) happily befriended them. But, I remember the man (he was black, she was white) coming to our back door and hiding all the time. And I remember the fear when our front windows got smashed in once. I was 4, hiding my 2 yr old friend under my bed bc she existed. 2) When we moved up north to New England, I met two classmates (I was 7/8) that were dark skinned but not black. I spent two weeks trying to figure out what ethnicity they were before I very ashamedly asked my mom. I STILL to this day am so ashamed of this. Even though I know, from growing up in the mid-south that I couldn’t have known. Not back then. Nesha was Puerto Rican/Native American/Spanish and some brand of white (her mom has no clue what country that half is from) and George was Mexican American/Native American.

    I was never taught by my parents about racism, but I know right from wrong. They just treated everyone the same, if they're we're nice my family was nice back, regardless of color.

    I'm the most open minded person in the world lol.
    I teach my son that everyone is the same. He notices the difference in skin color. He told me one day, why is grandpa black? I'm like no baby he's brown I showed him the different shades of brown and told him we're all different shades of brown. And he's like I'm light brown your medium brown and uncle Mayk and grandpa Miguel are dark brown...im like yes.
    My husband and I do not ever let him say the words gay, fat, black or ugly when he's speaking about someone. We always tell him all girls are beautiful etc. Everyone is different that's why we're all beautiful.

    I was born in the US, and my parents were born in el Salvador and I have Spanish in me. Let me tell you my brother and I look different. I am darker skinned and my brother is about two shades lighter. I have jet black hair and eyes, and my brother has hazel/brown eyes and light brown hair. My mom is lighter than both of us and my dad. We been asked if my mom is step mom, if I was adopted, we been bullied, and humiliated.
    To me each person is different and color or race shouldn't matter. It's a sad world that even in 2018 this hasn't changed

      Hi Kathy, my parents also came from El Salvador. You need to search Candace Owens. We are being brainwashed to feel like victims for being minority, we have rights in this country and must move on from racial tensions to continue to evolve as humans. God Bless Cipota!

    The thing about discussions on racism and hearing the perspective of a white (males especially) person on racism in America is that people will automatically look for them to be saying something ignorant and prejudice. Some POC don't even want to listen to someone like Adam speak on his experiences with racism or the repercussions of marrying a black woman and having brown children. They don't think he has any knowledge whatsoever. They don't think he's witnessed racism or has any understanding of how a black person (his wife) feels when being ostracized for her skin color. They don't think he contemplates the vile things his children very well may experience because of their mixed ethnicity. That right there is also racism at its finest. We don't know what this man deals with or what he has to watch his wife go through being in the media. Nothing he said in this video showed him being ignorant to the reality of racism in America and towards his family.

    When children change and suddenly don't like another child like Tamara said happened to Her, it's because the other child learned it from someone else. Children are not born racists. I took my kids to Eddy Murphy movies, I watched Sanford and Son, I treated black people the same way I treated everyone else. None of my children are racists, they have black friends. All I can say is, Thank you Dad You were a good Man.

    when my kids were little, little kids would ask why i was white and my son wasn't. that's fine, little kids are just curious. i would just tell them that their daddy was dark and i'm not, and they were fine. i've told off old people at the grocery store a time or two, for being nasty. you don't have to like me or approve of me, but you don't get to be rude. my husband and i just told our sons that some people are idiots, you just have to go about your business.
