      @@billabong503 For which... Which is what? 🤔 Also is it worth getting the CBR650R over the CBR650F or the CB650R or the CB650F. Are the differences marginal and or mainly just based on looks. I like the looks of the new models a lot but I am sure the price differences are significant enough for me to warrant considering more than looks.

      @@tonysvlog2disclaimer: I had a 125cc bike before and took my motorcycle license with an MT07, so I already knew the basics. The 90+ hp only kicks in at Higher rotations, so for the first rides I just kept the revs kinda low, that way it's a very smooth bike and easier to handle. All of that being said, there's nothing like test riding one. Cheers

    when I brought my Africa Twin to the shop for service, they had a CB650R as a loaner sitting there for me. Coming from the CRF1000L, getting onto this small bike was strange. I felt like my eyes were almost directly over the front wheel.
    I had her for two days and put about 150 miles on her before I had to return her and pick up my CRF again.
    Two weeks later I was back at the dealership and bought it. It's so different from the Africa Twin that it's really a great addition to the garage. Every day now, I wonder which bike I'll take.
    The CB650R is certainly a hoot to drive, I find myself laughing a lot when riding it.
    Recently, the Honda dealership gave me a CB1000R for two days (why was the bike at the dealership? wait for it!) and I drove that for two days. Yeah, the 145hp are a whole lot quicker than the 95hp, but also a lot less easy to ride. The whole bike feels a lot more like a heap of metal than the 650. When I got the 650 back, the seriousness fell off and I was purely enjoying riding it.
    Now, the reason it was at the dealership was what I would suggest you as the first mod too: I got the quickshifter fitted. Here in Europe, you get a quickshifter for ~200€ plus fitting. It's so worth it! You do want it. Just open the tabs and kick through the gears without letting off even once. It's the single best thing you can do to the bike.

    • @samerr.9081
      @samerr.9081 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, do you feel you enjoy the CB650R the way you do since you already own a somewhat bigger big (the Africa Twin)? If you were to have just one bike, would you feel the CB650R a tad under powered? I have an MT-07 and feel it is under powered for my kind of riding here in Canada with some highway riding. I'm considering the CB650R as my next bike but fear I'd quickly get to the same feeling I have with my MT07. Not that I'm considering the CB1000r as the alternative since I still like to be able to push the bike, rather than fear it. The alternatives would be in the 110-130 hp range. Thanks..

    • @pjakobs
      @pjakobs 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@samerr.9081 so .. I guess it depends on what you want.
      MOTORRAD, the largest German Motorbike journal has tested the 650R in the alps against the Kawasaki Z900, Aprilia Shiver 900 and Triumph Street Triple S660. In this group, they found the CB650R to be the weakest of the four bikes, mainly because she is rather loud (which she is, especially for a Honda) and she lacks low end punch (well, no wonder, up against a 900cc twin, a same displacement triple and a 900cc four).
      You need to keep her happy, that is, at 6000rpm or higher and you'll probably want to change gears at 11000-11500rpm.
      The fun in the CB650R, to me, is not in pure power. She's quick enough to get in trouble, easily, but she's no monster. The fun is in that she handles totally easy. She's a great buddy to ride.
      The CB1000R is an entirely different beast. That one has lots more low end torque and 50hp more at the top. If pure power is what you're after, that's what you should look at (or an FZ09 or a Street /Speed Triple or or or) - the CB650R, is all about going out and have some good fun.
      Would I have her as my only bike? That's a different questions. So for day tours about 300-400km, I do, by now, prefer the CB650 over the Africa Twin, because she's such a nice ride. For long rides, I absolutely prefer the Africa Twin as she's so much more comfortable on long trips, carries a lot more load (I think the 650 has less than 160kg of useable load) and has decent wind protection and an upright seating position.
      Maybe the kilometers travelled per bike is an indication: on the Africa Twin, I did pretty much exactly 10000km this season. On the CB650 I did about 3500. That shows the very different profiles.
      Hope that helps.

      @@pjakobs Do you think perhaps newer 1L bikes will take some learnings from the character this new middleweight 650 has. 🤔

    For some reason, this bike is priced way higher in the US than basically everywhere else, including Canada, where it is priced more like a Z650/SV650/MT07 thus representing a superb value. Here in the US it has to compete not with other 650s, but with more powerful bikes (Z900, MT-09, et al) which also match its fit and finish better than 650 offerings. It's a pity because it's a great bike.

But with DAS in the UK, having driven a car for years and rode dirt bikes every weekend as a kid. I know I ride close to the limit of the bike as I have had a couple of oh shit moments on a track and know where I can push to on the road because of these. I would be looking at a bigger bike already if I got the 500, 300 or the 125. So yes you are right but also very wrong it all depends on the person who will be riding their experience and training. • @crp9985
      @crp9985 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alasdairmathieson4130 My training has been going on since the late 70's. I have ridden just about every type of bike. I'll give you an example. I bought a 2001 Honda Valkyrie about a month ago. Big bike, big power. I looked at the tire date and the front was 9 years old and the back was 7 years old. Great tread still on them but they were getting old. About a week later I turned left from a stop light and shifted into second gear not aggressively but the back end spun out on me. In my world no problem to get the 800 pound bike back going straight . My first thought was these tires are crap. Went and played around with the back wheel spinning. I immediately bought new tires. Point of all this is I know when things headed over their their limit also knowing how to recover from this. New guys no matter what the training don't know that. No matter what kind of class room training you have had nothing like real world experience. If you don't have experience and you get into a high powered bike you may do fine enough but until you get some experience you can't truly hand a high powered bike.
