Yam the Man, I'd love to see your impressions on riding a Yamaha FZ6R and the Honda CB650F. Maybe a best used starter bikes. Occasionally I find a FZ6R or CB650F in my price range, but I am also looking at your highly suggested SV650.

It's quite light too and felt it easy to flick about. I bought the CB650R 4 days ago and I couldn't be more pleased. It is more comfortable, the quality of parts and finish is better than the MT-07 particularly the brakes and suspension, not to say the MT-07 is bad, it isn't, it's a lot of fun, but the Honda is a better overall bike. I just bought a second hand 2020 cb650r with 54k mileage and man, this thing still runs like new, smoothless acceleration, super flexible on turns and leaning, very comfy seating and that engine symphony when you are speeding up - what else you want?
Binging a ton of motorcycle videos now that I'm one year away from being able to get a full European A permit, and the cb650r is by far the bike I've been eying the most! I just absolutely love the look and sound! Definitely won't get it as a first bike as it starts at almost 15k usd in Norway (8-10k for a few years old used), but in a few years, I'd love to get one!
I had the same doubt and opted for the 2019 mt07/fz07. Here is why I took this decision: I had to decrease te power due to my license and being a 2 cilinders engine I still have most of the torque. Once I will upgrade the license, I can bring it back to full power, It will still be a good motorcycle, 75 hp are enough to have fun. In my country this motorcycle is one of the most sold, so when I'll decide to sell it the market is good and the prices won't lower too much. I suggest it to every beginner, super fun, very handly, nice look, and gives a lot of satisfaction.
Yo if you don't mind me asking, how is the power limited on the bike (mechanically, electrically)? Is it an easy procedure to switch things from one state to another?
@@WobboidMump Hi, it's limited electrically, it's easy to switch to full power, you can do it yourself if you know how, but I would recommend going to the dealer, in my country it costs about €300
I was stuck between these two, corrosion issues with the mt-07 and a massive dealer discount making a new cb650r only a few hundred more than a used mt07 was what swayed me.
Love the video, I do want to say even though the cb and the mt07 are closer bikes the fz09 is literally $100 more than the cb. For anyone other than the first time rider the fz09 is really the best bang for buck. Regardless love the channel and recent videos!
You're probably right. The Honda imo is still better build quality than the MT09 though. The other issue is the MT09 is just way too much power for a new rider as you mentioned.
A bit disadvantage for the MT-07 since you owned the first version not the 2nd version (2018-current), a couple of technical and aesthetics improvements were made...
I was just ran over and my 2018 ninja 650 was totaled. I would love that 650R. I’m fine, just had a small fracture luckily. I really just miss my motorcycle.
I'd ditch my MT07 in a second for that sexy CB650R but in Australia the CB650R only comes in completely lame ass 35kw restricted form. The whole point of a 4-cyl is the better top end power, so there's absolutely no point in building a high rpm ripper of a motor and then completely chopping off the top end. We have restricted MT07's too, but they retain the massive torque of the full power version.
Fortunately, you can now find these on the used market for 5~6k with less than 15'000km (some under 5'000km for like 7 grand). It will probably be my second bike.
Tires are rarely universal across markets or even production lots. On the same model year MT-07s I've seen everything from random trash Dunlops, to Michelin PR3s, to Bridgestone S22s. Kawasaki is usually the most consistent, but that doesn't mean they will spec great tires. All the Kawi 650s come with the same Dunlop D222s which are trash. The Versys 1000 always comes with Bridgestone T31s which are a decent sport touring tire, though maybe not quite to the level of a Road 5 or Angel GT.
I'll stick with my FZ-07 because I am loving it but have to reckon that if I didn't already have a bike that I love, he CB650R would probably be my first choice.
Im in the market for a bike. I adore the style of the CB650R. I have always wanted an inline 4 bike and Honda is synonymous with reliable and durable. Yamaha just does it different. Honestly probably going for an MT 07 because they sound nasty with a full system and that torque will do it. I'm not good enough of a rider to tell the suspension difference really but i have spoke to a few people about making it more balanced. Thanks for your impressions internet man.
Lol...FZ07 for 22 year olds? I bought mine in the summer of 2018, it's a 2017 so I picked it up brand new with less than 1 mile for $6000. I was 57 years old in the summer of 2018 HAHA! M4 exhaust and a bunch of other goodies on her (Kandi is her name, You know sweet like candy but sexy like a stripper) and I absolutely love her. So easy to ride and you bet she's a Dank Wheelie Machine!
Depends if you want Wheelie / torquey fun bike or a high revving refined bike. The Honda is definitely better build quality and a nicer engine but the MT07 is arguably more fun depending how you ride. MT07 is way better for town riding too imo. Honda is better for countryside and long straight roads.
Man, i wish i could get a used fz07 for $5100 right now. Cant find them for any less than high $7k/low $8k, no matter the year model. Even the mt03 used goes for almost $6k on average
This is a pretty darn good video guys, if after making all those videos if he has time to make videos where he can talk to us about bikes at almost a personal level. Why are the views so low?
I was so sold on the MT07 until I saw this bike and now I really want this one instead. I’m 30, brand new rider, responsible, don’t need or desire to do wheelies and want good suspension.
What dealerships are you going to where you can get a bike MSRP at $7500 out the door for only $8k? I live in the DFW area and literally every dealer around here charges anywhere from $1,000 at the low end all the way up to $1,800 at the Triumph dealership in dealer fees. I was pricing a Trident yesterday and with the model I was looking at ($8,200), they quoted me an OTD price of $10,100 lol
Loved the uncle comparison. Wondering if you, or anyone knows of any good comparisons of the MT09 and Gsx-s1000? I'm looking to upgrade to one or the other in the spring.
I think the comparison is actually really similar, with the GSX-S being in place of the Honda in this video. It's a 4 cylinder, heavier, not as crazy as the MT09
I love how you describe the two lol like your uncle in flip flops whilst the other one is like your uncle who's a doctor 😂 As an MT-07 owner I completely agree, been on my mates CB650F which isn't too far off the CB650R and that pretty much feels the same way you describe the CB650R minus the slight differences between the two.
@@thatstheguy07 Quoted from Google "The CB650R replaces the competent but dowdy-looking CB650F. The riding position is more aggressive than the CB650F. The handlebar is moved 0.5 inch forward and 0.3 inch down, with footpeg position moved rearward 0.3 inch back and 0.2 inch higher. Seat height is the same at 31.9 inches." So basically a more sporty and updated version I guess.
Did you watch the video? He said he thinks the Z is the least interesting in this class because of the engine, but he hasn't ridden one so he can't say for sure.
Can you please make a video between Honda CB650R vs KTM 790 Duke? I never seen someone made that one. And also I am in dilemma between those bikes. 😂 Awesome video by the way. 👍🏻
Honda are generally higher quality than Yamaha in just about everything. I'm not sure if the Honda is more fun though. The Honda is definitely a higher quality bike but not necessarily the better bike. depends if you want wheelie / acceleration fun or top speed revving fun. I love both bikes for different reasons.
The CB500R is an A2 bike that brings out the most of the limits being at the peak allowed power and as much torque as possible, the ninja 400 is lower 40s so it's not really maxing out the A2 possibilities
Guys, don't spent time choosing. I had mt07 for 1 year and was never happy with it. Even on day one. Now I bought cb650r and I am more than satisfied. It is better in each and every aspect - supension, chassis, 4cylinder, (quickshifter). It is more comfortable, powerful, better quility build and even consume less gasoline (haha). The one only thing that was better at mt07 is external temperature sensor. So it is really no brainer - cb650r.
oh wow im about to buy the honda having the mt7 for 5 years (no complains, just the cheap feeling compared to honda. buying the honda probably tomorrow without even test driving it, pretty sure its a good choise. but its the first comment stating honda is actually cheaper to run (gas) is that still true?
I have a nostalgic feeling for the cb650. It was the first motorcycle I had ever ridden. My buddy would let me take her out once in a while and she was a blast. I like the modern version and will be looking fur a nice used one.
after going to a dealership and sitting on the big four middleweight bikes i have to say the mt07 is my favorite followed by the sv650 then the z650 and i am not counting the cb650 because i cannot afford it lol
Do y'all think a Versys or V-Strom 650 would be too much to learn on? Say within an 8 month period, would it be smarter to start big and learn on it the whole way, or start smaller (250-500) to get comfy before moving up?
The Versys is smaller with shorter wheelbase, thus easier to ride than the V-Strom. I would say the Versys would be a good bike to learn on if you can handle the seat height. I own a Versys 650 2009, and I find it much easier to ride than my 2009 Honda Hornet 600.

@@WobboidMump Hi, it's limited electrically, it's easy to switch to full power, you can do it yourself if you know how, but I would recommend going to the dealer, in my country it costs about €300
@@raoul8629 Oh ok, thanks for the info!
I was stuck between these two, corrosion issues with the mt-07 and a massive dealer discount making a new cb650r only a few hundred more than a used mt07 was what swayed me.
i already heard about corrosion on mt-07... here almost no discount on cb650r and most of mid displacement bikes...
Thanks for the video. I'm considering to buy one of these bikes in the nexts months as my second bike
The other issue is the MT09 is just way too much power for a new rider as you mentioned.
i had an xsr900 as a new rider. for me it was fine as a beginner bike
A bit disadvantage for the MT-07 since you owned the first version not the 2nd version (2018-current), a couple of technical and aesthetics improvements were made...
Love my 2020 cb650. Just picked one up last month on marketplace for 6,500 bucks. 200 miles. I Stole that bike.
Man congrats! Where about you find that price? I'm looking for one.
I was just ran over and my 2018 ninja 650 was totaled.
I would love that 650R.
I’m fine, just had a small fracture luckily.
I really just miss my motorcycle.
I’ve cruised on both the CB650R and the MT-07. I liked the Honda better, so hopefully I won’t regret ordering a brand new Yamaha XSR 700.
bro the xsr is an mt07 with different looks🤣
that's like my next big dilemma. My first one was Cb125r vs Mt125, next will be the grown up version :)
Hahahaha same thing. I went with the cb125r.
Do you think in Australia the MT07 is the best LAMS bike then?
Why do they do that? For a2 drivers? Can you fix that?
Great video yam
I really like the naked look on the CB 650 R. It looks raw and i freaking love it.
Fortunately, you can now find these on the used market for 5~6k with less than 15'000km (some under 5'000km for like 7 grand).
It will probably be my second bike.
Thanks your videos are the best 👌 I'm thinking of getting that mt07
Interesting that the CB comes with Michelin tires, here in Europe, they ship it with Metzeler Roadtec 01, which really suit the bike well.
Cb650R is my favorite hands down...😎wish I had it!!!!😊🤗one day!!!!
12:15 There is no CB500R. It's the only CB that Honda hasn't refreshed to neo sports cafe. But that's a bike that should definitely exist.
I know! I like the small bikes. The 300 looks great and the 500 could be perfect.
There's a cb500f cb500x. Guess it depends on region.. but the x is everywhere as far as I know.
gonna pick up my CB650R tomorrow :)
Enjoy it. They are both awesome bikes imo
How is it after 2 years?
@@jazu40 Sold it after one year. It's a great bike, but the throttle was annoying and to make the exhaust louder you have to get a full system.
@@niklas1723 what you ride now?
@@jazu40 S1000RR
Great review! For the price the street triple is the better buy. I am looking to upgrade from my first bike a Ninja 400.
The 18 and up mt07 has rebound damping on the rear and are a little stiffer front and rear. You should take one for a ride. Mt07 ftw.
I've demod the current MT-07, still too soft up front for hard cornering, great motor though.
cb650r is the more complete bike, but clearly by what he i saying it depends on what you intend on doing with the bike
The gsxs 750 is looking really good right now
Yammies back
I'll stick with my FZ-07 because I am loving it but have to reckon that if I didn't already have a bike that I love, he CB650R would probably be my first choice.
Thanks for your impressions internet man.
suspension is everything ... keeps the rubber to the road
Poor fueling and jerky throttles are ruining so many of our new motorcycles these days.
Thanks. Good info
Nice comparo!
7:00 thats literally me 22 and all I want to do is learn dank wheelies !!
Apart from all the traction control stuff cb is a gorgeous bike.
Agreed. Definitely nicer bike than the Yam. The MT07 is heaps of fun though.
Getting ready to buy my first bike, new rider. I love both of em. Been looking at both.
Depends if you want Wheelie / torquey fun bike or a high revving refined bike. The Honda is definitely better build quality and a nicer engine but the MT07 is arguably more fun depending how you ride. MT07 is way better for town riding too imo. Honda is better for countryside and long straight roads.
What bike are you actually recording this video with? Owned a 07 and loved it. But as for building quality & sound... Well honda does it.
The CB650R
There’s a reason the MT 07 is the benchmark & the others are tying to get there .. about 5 years too late.
Man, i wish i could get a used fz07 for $5100 right now. Cant find them for any less than high $7k/low $8k, no matter the year model. Even the mt03 used goes for almost $6k on average
WE NEED MORE VIDS LIKE THISS!!
This is a pretty darn good video guys, if after making all those videos if he has time to make videos where he can talk to us about bikes at almost a personal level. Why are the views so low?
The video title we've been dyinggg to see! 😂😂
I was so sold on the MT07 until I saw this bike and now I really want this one instead. I’m 30, brand new rider, responsible, don’t need or desire to do wheelies and want good suspension.
Same here…I’m getting the 2024 e-clutch CB650r. Going to be a blast!
I've heard you say that dips in power a couple times now with this bike. I wonder if it's like an eco target for cruising RPMs?
Very cool place you are riding, where is it?
When is yammie going to rip wheelies?
I have the CB300R, I rode it a month to know I want the CB650R. Now I cannot find one to buy within the 3 states around me. Honda allocation sucks..
damn!! your voice 💥💯
So get the fun crazy 09 lol I have the 07 and my next bike will be a 09 just my opinion
@@DarkestVibez kinda what's I've been gathering based off of the reading I've done.
@@monty-9269 yeah that was my first thought but I've been flip flopping back and forth. Little cheaper too which is always nice.
Shoulda done one o those Max Wrist type slow mo's for that snake pass. Lol.
@yammie- what would you choose- CB650R or XSR700 ? I'm eager to see their comparison video!
I love how you describe the two lol like your uncle in flip flops whilst the other one is like your uncle who's a doctor 😂
As an MT-07 owner I completely agree, been on my mates CB650F which isn't too far off the CB650R and that pretty much feels the same way you describe the CB650R minus the slight differences between the two.
Reevy Other than the front light, what are the differences between the r and f? I’ve been wondering this.
@@thatstheguy07 Quoted from Google
"The CB650R replaces the competent but dowdy-looking CB650F. The riding position is more aggressive than the CB650F. The handlebar is moved 0.5 inch forward and 0.3 inch down, with footpeg position moved rearward 0.3 inch back and 0.2 inch higher. Seat height is the same at 31.9 inches."
So basically a more sporty and updated version I guess.
Reevy cool thanks.
The Honda in line four, unbeatable
Could you do a comparison between honda cb650r vs Yamaha xsr700 ? Thanks
Amandeep singh same bike as mt07 just a different look better looking I think. I’ve done my homework and buying the Honda because.....Honda
I like how you compare it to a person, I understand that analogy better
Ask questions? Ta
Yammie, you never answer them😁
13:14 My Mt-07 also attracts street duty, especially on a ride after the neighbor dog has been walked.
Thought I wanted a cruiser..... Still do.... But now I've seen the MT-07.... I must have this bike.
Yammie what about the kawi z650 how would it stack up?
Did you watch the video? He said he thinks the Z is the least interesting in this class because of the engine, but he hasn't ridden one so he can't say for sure.
Can you please make a video between Honda CB650R vs KTM 790 Duke? I never seen someone made that one. And also I am in dilemma between those bikes. 😂
Awesome video by the way. 👍🏻
Yammy can you comment at all on which of the two you found to be lesser quality in terms of parts, corrosion, general care required?
Honda are generally higher quality than Yamaha in just about everything. I'm not sure if the Honda is more fun though. The Honda is definitely a higher quality bike but not necessarily the better bike. depends if you want wheelie / acceleration fun or top speed revving fun. I love both bikes for different reasons.
The CB500R is an A2 bike that brings out the most of the limits being at the peak allowed power and as much torque as possible, the ninja 400 is lower 40s so it's not really maxing out the A2 possibilities
Be honest Yammie, do you dislike Yamaha? I have yet to see a video where your comparisons/reviews favor them. 😔
@@no_name4080 nope. Cb650r just fits better for every aspect
oh wow im about to buy the honda having the mt7 for 5 years (no complains, just the cheap feeling compared to honda. buying the honda probably tomorrow without even test driving it, pretty sure its a good choise.
but its the first comment stating honda is actually cheaper to run (gas) is that still true?
Best motorcycle channel on youtube
comfort, practicality wise Yam (I'm past 30s)..... If You had to pick up just one bike as Your one motorcycle - cb or fz ?
Inline 4s are more comfortable imo.
I have Kawasaki’s Z650, and I absolutely love it! Much more comfortable than the other sport bikes I sat on (cb500r, mto7, sv650)
agree - i went from a cbr600rr to a z650 and the comfort is like night and day.
I have a nostalgic feeling for the cb650. It was the first motorcycle I had ever ridden. My buddy would let me take her out once in a while and she was a blast. I like the modern version and will be looking fur a nice used one.
@10:00, sounds like the same power dip on the FRS/BRZ. A tune fixes it at the cost of a weird exhaust sound.
Superb bike
How can you be Papa Yam and not know that the Kawasaki Z650 exists until a couple weeks ago? Dude?!?
after going to a dealership and sitting on the big four middleweight bikes i have to say the mt07 is my favorite followed by the sv650 then the z650 and i am not counting the cb650 because i cannot afford it lol
Yeah..I agree Honda looks better and the quality is one level up...
You gona ride the cbr650r? It’s really interesting how people seem to prefer it to the cb650r even though it’s pretty much the same bike..!
Everyone I've seen has preferred the cb. It has better tires and handles more easily. Also weighs less. Still bought the cbr for the looks
You weren't kidding, that new Street Triple is nothing to fuck with.
Depends on your weight and height. The power shouldnt be too much
