      @@panchoelquededejaelculoanc3512 Its a non-issue, those u joints take way more during acceleration than a few kilos of pressure to lift it 2-3 cm. The bulk of the weight its still on the engine mounts.

    I've just hit 270k miles in my 2013 sprinter (had it from 80k). I've been servicing it myself every 10-15k, going to do an oil change every 10k now that its getting on a bit.
    Thanks for making this video, you've given me the knowledge and confidence to change the other fluids and oils.

    I just bought a 2015 170 inch Mercedes Sprinter with the 2.1 4 cylinder. My previous van was a 2005 Dodge Sprinter of 9 years of which I drove 250,000 miles. I bought that van with 113,000 miles and at the end it had 362,000 miles. Mechanical sound but the frame was rotted.
    The 2015, I'm starting out with 278,000 miles.
    These vans are great. I love the longevity.
    Thank you for taking the time to explain everything

      Amazed you have a 4 cylinder wirh 278K miles. I also have the 2.1 L 4 cylinder 2014 with 76000 miles (123000 kms). Wondered how the 4 cylinders held up compared to the 6? Believe there is a problem with water pump, DEF system clogging up and cracks in air cooler and intake mamifold. Seems those smaller engines do hold up.

    Very informative video and even though I dont service my own van, the knowledge will be useful when I take it in for its next service. Im on my third Sprinter and I am sure that, as with the last two, it will be rust that kills this one in the end. Mechanically, they have always been pretty good considering the miles they eat. In my opinion, the guy that sprays the paint on these beasts at the factory deserves some kind of recognition for spraying paint so thin it is almost see-through. A gallon of white paint must see him through the entire year.

      @@L8R-HP most likely you were lucky the previous owner has done the hard part for you , because the manifold on 651 2.1 made from plastic (has lifetime and it will deteriorate over time as well as it been exposed to heat all the time ) so it wont last that long and Mercedes engineer they know that it has to be changed over certain time so you can come back to them to replace those deteriorating parts . and by the way water pump , vacuum pump , high fuel pressure pump ,... all they have rubber seal on them and over time at some point have to be replaced , in regards to timing chain on this engine I could agree with you as long as you do your oil change on time they could go way beyond 500k as they have been made from steal so as long as they got lobrcated very well with engine oil it shouldn't be problem . The same way Mercedes engineer made us to come back to them regularly to buy fuel filter , air filter is the same engineer who design those water pump ...either you or your mechanic will have to come back to them at some point to get those faulty parts , so I would advice anyone who own this engine when they get to 250k is time to do your preventive maintenance specially those one on heated area (water pump , manifold .. ) to avoid catastrophic damage to this engine and to make it last way beyond 1000000miles .

    When you add the distilled water you should close the Draincock valve and run the engine until the thermostat opens and flushes the dirty coolant from the hoses and engine block. Then open the draincock valve, this way you do a proper full flush of the whole system.

    check your power steering hoses next to the engine, known problem and there is even a recall to fix the issue. The hose is too short and if that clamp is insufficient the hose can blow off and lose all your steering fluid at once. Congratulations on your 500K miles, I have a 2018 Sprinter 4x4 and hope it lasts as long as yours.

    I have the 5 cylinder '06 model with 185K miles. The spec for motor oil is 5W40 and I run Rotella not the Mobil. When new there was no Mobil 1 5W40 truck diesel oil on the market so I
    immediately went with Rotella. In Chicago with these cold winters I have run 0W40 Rotella T6 and the motor starts just like being 20 degrees F when outside it is 10 below. 0W40 is not as
    available so back to 5W40. If you live in a warmer climate maybe 5W40 oil will do for the closer tolerances V6 motors Diesel, but, in the colder weather northern climates that 40 weight oil has to take its toll on engine wear. There are several Chicago land older Sprinters with 800K miles in this area. I have not met them.

    Congratulations on your Sprinter hitting 500,000 miles. I have a strange "whining" noise under my hood at low speeds and I even hear the noise sometimes when the vehicle is decelerating and my engine RPM's are around 1,200 or less and just coasting. My vehicle is a 2011 Sprinter 3500 with 65,000 miles. I've had the Sprinter transmission serviced every 20,000 or 30,000 miles with a new filter. I really don't think it's a transmission issue since the vehicle shifts perfectly.
    My engine is the 3 liter V6, OM642.
    So, a few questions for you: did you get the AEM modifications done? Any issues?
    Any issues with the PCV valve or EGR valves? And, are you just using the Mercedes Benz approved oils?

    Thanks for the great instructional video. Question: when you open the radiator drain plug how many turns do you do? Seems like mine will make a 1/4 turn and stop. The valve behaves like a 1/4 turn ball valve, not a plug that you can keep turning until fluid comes out. I don't want to force it further in fear of breaking something. I am not getting any fluid to come out when the valve stopped at 1/4 turn. Thanks for your help.

I have a 2011 freightliner sprinter with 300,000 but the engine has 130,000 and have been thinking about doing a delete but there was actually a recent recall and Mercedes replaced my entire exhaust system for free and with this my exhaust and def system is all under warranty now through Mercedes. Would you still get a delete in this situation?

    • @L8R-HP

      18-22mpg empty and 16 while towing. This one had around 150k miles and dealer refused to fix issues under warranty which was up to 175k so I had no choice. Delete is nice and extends engine life, but if you don’t have any issues and still under warranty I would keep it stock.

    Let's talk about the trans fluid change without draining the torque converter. Go to a trans repair shop and look at used torque converters and open-cut one torque converter apart and look at the mess (a converter without a drain plug that is). Then tell us you do not drain the converter but just circulate some new fluid briefly. The boys and girls at MB would be frowning if they knew you were not doing the full trans service which includes draining the converter. Special situations with vehicles sometimes allow certain service to be extended or skipped at times and this
    expensive transmission in the Sprinter is not one of them.

    • @L8R-HP
      @L8R-HP  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I had a fleet of these vans and this worked for me. The day I quick going to the dealer and started doing my own service is the day I stoped having issues with my vans. Keep going to the dealer. You will be replaying engines and transmissions every 150-200k miles. The boy and girls at MB need more training. Resetting the computers is not servicing the vehicle 😂

    • @ajm2193
      @ajm2193 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I go ahead and drain the converter and service transmission replace filter about every 40k miles just want to keep the fluid cherry but if you service the trans often no need, was an auto tech for 25 yrs and most torque converters can't be drained so we serviced those every 15k to 30k since you can only get half the fluid out it helps keep the fluid fresh
