This is the best vlog on Sprinter maintenance, you do a great job with your description. Thanks.
Thank you Ted you are awesome and thanks for watching my channel 😉👍👍
It is great how you succinctly demonstrate every step in the process. You make it look so easy. I look forward to many more videos from you. I can use the help. Thanks
Thank you Mitch I really appreciate your positive feedback and thank you for watching my channel and soon I will put new videos in this platform thank you for watching

Great videos! Would love to see a coolant flush video in the near future. Keep it up buddy and thank you!
Thank you and yes that video is coming very soon
on point without egoistic yeti yeti yata, you're a great teacher definitely I've learn lot from this video thank you.
Awesome thank you so much for taking your time and giving me the feedback and really motivated me and I'm keeping making videos thanks for watching😉👍🏝
Fantastic Video ! Once again thank you for this maintenance content, it's so helpful & informative 🙂👍
Anytime Gary thank you for watching my channel and I'll keep making more videos in the future 😉👍
That’s is the best way to do that procedure on your van. You get all the fluid out that way with the help of the engine and the pressure it generates to push it out. And doing it that way is better also because you don’t have as many failure points either. Great job captain

Goodmorning Will and i agree with you This is the most effective and best way I know how to do this And thank you for watching My 2nd channel captain have a nice day😉👍⚓️
Top notch! Thank you, greatly appreciate your effort to create this video.

Very impressive on a not so easy job. Thanks Capt.!
You are welcome! and thanks for watching 👍
Awesome! Thank you for putting this tutorial together.
My pleasure and I'm glad you liked the video I really appreciate your watching the channel and your positive feedback thanks again
Thank you for the excellent video. I will say you made it look very easy compared to how it went for me. Maybe just great editing 😂. Of course today my retainer clip flew off into the engine compartment and I will need to find a new one, hopefully it will benefit others when I find a replacement. Best regards.
Wow , sorry to hear that , and yes , that clip is really a trip to get it out without flying around , I hope you find it and get it installed. And thank you for watching I hope for the best for you.
Great video, got this done today. Thank you for posting.
Glad it helped👍
Really good video, great narration and description, thanks for posting this. Ill do this on my Sprinter soon
thanks for the positive comment and thanks for watching 👍

Tremendo trabajo capitan Nice Job eres un bestia

I followed your steps on my 2010 2500 sprinter for the transmission fluid change and flush this am Thanks for the great video Got it done struggled on the reinstall of the pan with the cross bar in the way, eventually I put a jack under transmission and raised it just a few inches and that allowed sufficient clearance Another tip When you do the flush from the top when using the clear hose method mine popped off and made a mess I then held it on and had no issues completing the drain until it changed colors with the new fluid like the video shows.
awesome and im glad it work and sorry about the mess 🤣 thanks for watching

Thank you for one of the best repair and maintenance videos out there. I think you have the gift of teaching, because you can see things from the learner's perspective. Seriously, though, most other TH-camrs are more about showcasing themselves than about the needs of the viewer. I especially appreciate that you have ambient sound and don't fill every space with background "music." I can tell that you put a lot of thought and work into your video with all the camera angles and detail and careful editing. That's a lot of work, and I know you can't detail every single thing, but what you show in just 15 minutes is amazing. Super concise, super informative, all useful stuff, so it's not boring.
May I ask a question?: I bought at 2006 T1N Sprinter with about 176,000 miles on it. The service records say it had the transmission fluid changed by Jiffy Lube at about 172,000 miles, BUT it says they used ""synthetic versatrans CVT plus global ATF." I think I found this ATF online as "Phillips 66 VERSATRANS® CVT PLUS FLUID" (phillips66lubricants.com/product/versatrans-cvt-plus-fluid/). The information sheet for this ATF says "continuously variable transmissions, as well as step-type automatic transmissions." I couldn't find any standards, licenses, or approvals for it. My van now has about 179,000 miles on it and started doing the Rumble Strip Noise ("RSN") thing about 500 miles ago (The following video is an extreme example; mine isn't nearly this bad and happens only occasionally: th-cam.com/video/cU0IkZxoWdY/w-d-xo.html). Here is a fix for RSN that I've seen a lot online: th-cam.com/video/jfVGh-_2WDo/w-d-xo.html.
Could you please let me know your opinion about the following?
1) Do you think the Phillips 66 VERSATRANS® CVT PLUS FLUID is bad for my transmission or is causing my Rumble Strip Noise?
2) What do you think about the "fix" in the video (th-cam.com/video/jfVGh-_2WDo/w-d-xo.html)?
Thank you, again, for a great video and all of your hard work!

Mechanics rarely do the proper flush stage. They usually just empty the pan. This is way better. Good job!
Thank you and yes i agree with you, and thanks for your positive feedback
@@mercedessprinterdiy8556very good video I really appreciate it I'm going to try to find the size of the plastic line you slide into the radiator to flush it. I'm sure it's here somewhere and if it's an Amazon link that'll work for me too. Great video

@@mercedessprinterdiy8556 thank you I did my service on the transmission. It was wonderful it worked great I used the 3/8 line. I have a really great mechanic friend. He does all my large truck mechanicking. Told me you don't have to really put it in gear to flush so I did it all by myself. I put the 3/8 hose into the drain pan and clamped it with a spring clip. Went back and started the engine went out and watch the oil flush through thethe torque converter and cooler. As soon as The color changed😊 I ran back and shut the engine off. Bam done 👍 worked beautiful . thank you for the video.. and help.. and the reply. Truck is running phenomenal now gracias‼️
as sprinter specialist, to all who watched this video! changing engine oil or gear oil or wheel disc's & brakes at home step by step indeed gonna save you money like so much money ,aye no mercy on sprinter job at dealershit company's, i worked on 2016 v6 sprinter i only did engine oil change + oil filter +fuel filter + air filter +cabin air filter and the customer got charged with 1030$, while it all maximum gonna cost's him 350 $ at home

That's awesome thank you buddy I really appreciate your positive feedback and thank you for watching my channel👍👍👍👍
Another flush procedure that I use is through the drain screw in the torque converter. there is an access hole for the torque conv in the transmission casing closed with a rubber cap.
You need to turn the engine through the crank pulley to align the screw hole with the little opening hole. use an allen key to remove the screw in the torq conv and let the oil drain completely.
Put the screw and tighten it then proceed to fill the new oil. Add around 6 quarts and run the engine and do the cycle of D then R a few times.
now Drain the pan through the drain plug and refill with new fluid... it will take another 4 - 5 quarts. drive the van for few minutes and check the fluid level and top it up as required.
thanks for the awesome suggestion and for watching the video 👍
He mentioned that in his video but his method is much better much less work it's very difficult to get to that Allen screw. And you don't get all the fluid out I believe you use much more fluid for much less cleanliness. I'm all for the flush method it looks actually pretty darn easy. It looks much easier than the other method
Wish me luck I'm going to do it Friday or something soon as my parts come in
Great video and like the others have said, you do a great job demonstrating how to DYI your van service. After watching your van video, I'm going to try and tackle my transmission fluid change and flush myself. I have a little over 60,000 miles on it and I feel it is time. One item I don't see on your list of links is the funnel. Can you send me a link to the funnel you used that seems to fit the tubing you recommended? Thank you.

Do you know if a 2012 2500 with OM642 is exactly the same as yours here? Love your videos. My only issue is I live in an HOA. I may have to take my van to a parking lot and do the work. So really appreciate you showing what tools. As I can't bring all my tools to a parking lot.
awesome Glen and HOA i hate them and im not sure if 2012 is the same but should be similar, thanks for being a viewer of my channel 👍👍
Thanks for this video! Because I stumbled across it, I gave it a thumbs up and I also subscribed! I got a question for you, maybe you could answer? I often thought about putting an external cooler for my 2016 sprinter, where you added the hose, would that be a good place to add an external cooler? If not do you know where? Thanks again for the video!

@@mercedessprinterdiy8556 Adrenaline Vans in Montrose Colorado has a Transmission Cooler/Fan set up.... I have it on my 2018 4x4 Sprinter... It has a manual switch or kicks on automatically via a thermostat at 170 degrees.
you should also make a video how to change torque oil too ! full gear oil change then
great idea , thanks for the suggestion
👍 I guess this is 5spd trans.
7spd trans on the 4cyl vans has quite a few differences...no dipstick capability, the trans pan bolts are aluminum shear bolts so u cant overtighten, and MB fluid (blue usually), capacity is about 10liters.
yes the & speed Trans is different because of 2 extra gears more oil 👍
This right here. We are being told the fluid amount is 7.5 quarts when it's really 9.7 liters. In fact, Europarts-SD has the kit for the 7G Tronic that comes with 10 liters of fluid. I was wondering why the amount here was different from the info I have. Either way, a great video, and keep up the good work!
@@ebierke I also have a 2.1L, 7spd. Did you happen to do the same transmission flush as in the video? If so do u need to add more than 10 liters to make up for the loss during the flush? Like u mentioned, there's no dipstick access..

Thanks a million for this video. When you run the engine forward and reverse, are you just engaging the gear but keeping wheels still? Or are you jacking rear wheels and allowing them to spin?
hello Trev what i do is just putting it in gear only that is all you need to do, no need to move the van is just to activate the transmission ,thanks for watching cap

Any advice or experience of using liqui moly CeraTec oil additives for Vito or sprinter?

Do you know if it is the same procedure for my? Thanks
Not a 100% sure but all this 3.0 v6 engine are very similar
Excellent video and very thorough. When you turned off the engine was basically all of the transmission fluid pumped out? Was it still in reverse or in park when you shut it off? Thanks
Thank you and yes most pf all the oil was out at that point and at the end set on nutral before shutting of👍
Thanks for watching
@@mercedessprinterdiy8556 why do you need to shut it off in neutral ?

Great video. This is the first video that I've seen showing to flush ATF through the hose port. Does this procedure remove the ATF that's in the torque converter? Thanks for all the tips & info.
Anytime and no it dosent remove the oil in the torque but this is the easiest way i think to flush, thanks for watching
@@mercedessprinterdiy8556 So, to maximize the amount of fresh ATF it would make sense to flush with the tube & also drain the torque converter, right? Thanks,
@glennr9913 draining the torque converter is very hard to reach for my opinion but is better to do it if you are handy 👍
I notice the front wheels up on ramps. Are the rears also on ramps? Or is the vehicle sloping? If sloping, how does this effect the "level" of fluid with regard having the correct amount in after the draining of the excess?
it was sloping so that why i level the front tires
Good service demo but no mention of the year of the unit. My 2019 has no dipstick tube and I doubt there is one on from 2019.
hello Ray and im not sure about the 2019, my van is a 2017 and sorry i did not mentioned before bud,
To "torque in" a bolt doesn't mean to just make it tight! You have to look up torque specifications for bolts and use a torque wrench.
Also, you have to drain the torque converter!
Pan bolts 6 foot pounds
Torque converter drain 10 foot pounds
Pan drain 6 foot pounds
Very true but wen you do this all the time you learn how to tight the bolts but if you feel that you need one i recommend you to get one so you are safe ,me i have never had a problem, thanks for watching 👍
What transmission fluid did you use? What plastic tubing did you use? (Home Depot plastic tubing) It is not listed in the description, amazon made you remove it. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO!
hello yes amazon made me remove it , i got the tubing at amazon and i used the Mercedes Brand
Good video. Did you use 1/8” tubing?
(Refrigerator water line tubing?)
Hello is 3/8
Great video! I put larger tyres on and now it slightly rubs, can you adjust the steering lock in a 316 sprinter?
Hello Fanie I am not sure if you can do that But do a search on the Web you may find a forum that may help👍
Can this type of flush by running the engine and using the cooler line be done to a 2019 2500 Sprinter with a 7 speed? I know the fill has to be done through the drain pan due to the sealed transmission.
hello i have not done this on a 2019 engine so im not 100 % sure but it should be similar
On 7spd, i drained the pan and pulled the tiny bolt in the torque converter, let it drain overnight and nearly the full capacity came out.
To refill, i used 10ft of clear hose and a nipple adapter to the drain plug, and i gravity-fed fluid simply by having the container higher than the trans.
I'd suggest watching some 7Gtronic videos on the trans service though. There seem to be various small differences in servicing.
Is the dipstick you have a link for for the 5 Speed or & speed transmission?
Yes for the 5 speed trans 👍
do you have a link for the funnel attachment to the tubing?
Hello and no i dont ,that funnel came with my generator
Hello nice work. I want to do same to my sprinter. One question this method will flush including the torque converter . Or i have to empty the torque converter add transmission fluid and then start the engine and flush the system. Thank you
No, this method would not empty your tour converter. But it's not worth all that trouble just to take some small amount of oil. That's my opinion
@@mercedessprinterdiy8556pthank you for your reply. i understand is not about amount of oil is that the sprinter has a little shaking .and i thought that the oil in torque converter was not changed along with the oil in the gearbox. Not flushing either the gearbox. Maybe if i will flush it it will get rid of the most oil that is old.
@@banudragos1383 yes thatis a good idea 👍
Hello. We recently purchased a 2015 Adventurous TS (2014 Mercedes Sprinter 3500 Diesel chassis with automatic transmission) with 30k miles on a trip from Oregon to So. Cal and noticed driving when driving usually 65 mph+, it downshifted by itself to 4th gear. Sometimes, momentarily shifting into Neutral and back to Drive, would fix the issue. But a few times it lost the ability to accelerate and we had to pull over and idle or shut off the engine for 10-15 minutes, presumably to cool down the transmission. Then it would run normally. Also, when driving 55mph lower, we didn't see the problem. Have you seen this before? If so, any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your input.
So sorry to hear that you're going through that problem. And no I have not ever seen that problem on a sprinter.
Check your fluid level ... maybe it's time to change fluid and filter
can you use an air compressor to flush all the remaining fluid?
what you did seems risky, if the other guy does not turn off the engine on time you could ruin the transmission
thanks for the idea 👍
Love the video, does doing the final flush while running fully drain the torque converter as well?
Yes that exactly why this was done and thanks for watching 👍
Where can l get the flushing kit from this video

What year Sprinter is this? Will everything be the same for my 2020 4x4 2500 transmission?
Not sure on your newer model mine is 2017
How about torque converter plug ??
No need by doing this because is just a small amount of oil and not worth the trouble 👍
My tranny pan did not come off that easily. Some reason between the cross member and the rear Tran support the space is too small.
That is very weird and what year is your sprinter?
Do you know if it’s the same as with a 2023 AWD?
That i'm not sure
I couldn’t find transmission dipstick on 2013 MB Sprinter, anyone know? I just see the red oil dipstick only.
hello mike im not sure about that year sorry
It doesn't come with a dipstick to measure the level, just a cap for the fill tube. You need to purchase the tool listed in the video description.
Where do you get the funnel with hose ?
the funnel came with a generator and the hose at a home depot cap
Question??? So you don’t put back the red pin 📍 at all ?
You can but you don't have to that's just for the dealer to know if you Have work on it. But you don't need to put it back on If you don't want to
What I did? I put it in. But I don't make it click all the way in so I can reuse the clip
Where did you get that funnel?
the funnel came with my generator and i dont have a link sorry but i found this similar at Amazon it may work amzn.to/43jYe1j
Weird my 2500 doesn't have that trans cooler line.
mine is a 2017
whered you get that dipstick? mine doesnt have one
you have to buy one for your model
Good video, in most cases a simple drain and fill is sufficient, these transmissions are strong. Also the oil does not really get contaminated because it's not like engine oil which is exposed to combustion which contaminates it. Thus a simple drain and fill is sufficient, people overdo all the nonsense. Don't have to buy into them. You did a proper job though. If you don't have that skill level then just to a simple drain and fill.
very true but doing the complete flush you wont have the need to change the transmission more often since you only have 50% of new oil but i see your point is more labor included , thanks for your comment👍👍
you mean 50% old oil is left (in the converter) if you don't flush it?
What size is the clear hose? OD measurements
Is 3/8 inch OD
Can you send me the model numbers for the oil filter piping? Everything is in the video. I’d really appreciate it.
1/4 Inch ID (3/8 Inch OD) PVC Clear Polyethylene hope this helps and thanks for watching 👍
