What absolutely terrifies me about Yelena is the question, how many men in our world have played her role in shaping past events and conflicts. Shaping the world as we know it today. Especially the not too distant 19th and 20th century has plenty of such events. One might even wonder, how many Yelenas are walking around today, preparing to leave their mark on history

Yelena was one of my favourite characters. I was so excited to see where she'd go after she said "I'm going to see how this ends" and then isyama stuck her on fucking boat and forgot about her.
Her conclusion was brilliant. As another commenter said, "it seems like intentional irony. yams very easily could've just briefly showed a shot of her in jail in 139, but i think her slowly fizzling away from the story to the point where she completely disappears in the end is supposed to be irony for someone who wanted glory and to leave such a huge mark on history." It's a very fitting and Isayama did not forget about her at all, he just had a very different conclusion in mind from how you envisioned but that doesn't mean its bad.

It just seems like an eccentric but nonetheless appropriate way to nail home the purpose of the character. What's veeeeeery meta about that, it just follows through in the way the rest of the story does. All the dramatics, all the talk of this grand new era, all of this glorifying of the Euthanasia plan.. all out with a whimper. From what I've seen from your videos I'd hope you'd be the type of person to not just laugh a valid interpretation off because you disagree, and this is a valid interpretation.

I took me a long time to even begin to understand Yelena. At first, when she revealed her plan, all I could do was hate her because she was an obstacle for the main cast. After processing the story more, I realized that she is one of the more interesting characters is s4.

Yelena's infatuation with Zeke is a clear parallel of Mikasa's own infatuation with Eren, altough Yelena holds Zeke in very high regard almost a God-like figure, while Mikasa can recognize Eren's flaws

mikasa was never infatuated, she has opinions and even questions eren when he does something morally wrong, she doesnt care about what eren wants (s1, where he is irritated by her overprotectiveness, she goes on to do what she wants bc that is what she thinks is right) also mikasa in s4 sees eren not as a "god" (she never thought of him god) but in s4 she see's him saving her as a wild animal rather "saviour"
Interesting perspective. But I think Mikasa is far less infatuated, she does have some independence and questions Eren at times.

Love your AoT content! Your perspective is always very nuanced and thought out, unlike a lot of other people covering the show. Never expected a video on Yelena. Idk if this assumption is right but i think Isayama wanted to do more with Traute (Kenny's right hand girl). They both follow someone they believe is gonna change the world, forming a new path forward. I feel like Yelena is the fully realised version of her. Though maybe i'm overthinking. It's kinda wierd how we never actually saw Yelena and Zeke interact with eachother at any point throughout the series. Would've interesting to see them together, considering how much they rely on eachother.
Glad you love it! Isayama definitely seemed to put quite a bit of emphasis on Traute, there was always a curious amount of focus on her perspective. Whether that be because he just wanted to show us the eyes of someone who followed Kenny as his right hand woman or whether he wanted to do more with her, I'm not sure, but you definitely may be onto something in thinking it may have been the latter!

@@mikasajaeger4648 no I don't think she's in jail. we last saw her on the life boats on their way to hizuru. that's where she's probably living now. she never broke any laws in hizuru so they have no reason to arrest her. if she was in paradis then she most likely would have been killed by the yaegerists

Great analysis and gave me more perspective into Yelena. Wish there weren't manga panels though (or at least forewarned), even if they're technically before S5.
I don’t see any problem with using manga panels that have already been adapted. Yelena doesn’t have that much screen time and is only in 6-7 episodes which means that there aren’t many clips to use of her. To avoid repetition, showing off the manga art is a good way to keep it fresh. Glad you enjoyed.

@@Aleczandxr Oh, you were concise! I just think there are parts of your scripts where, sometimes, to drive the point home, you flourish your descriptions around the same topic, which really elevates the viewing/listening experience, don't get me wrong.
I rewatched the video and I think basically every one of your sentences gives new information in some way, so maybe it's not that you repeat yourself per se but explain each point with a lot of detail and from many sides, which for me might be the equivalent of sort of explaining the obvious to someone who has already thought about the subject.
For example:
04:13 - would lead to obsession
05:08 - to make the change she was yearning for possible
04:20 - what she wanted was for this world to change and break out of this muck
06:33 - see that world come into shape
06:40 - she revels in the chance of altering things
05:50 - there is no room for mercy
06:15 - doing inhumane things
I had already been thinking about Yelena and her twisted view of the world, Eren and Zeke, and for me is what makes her interesting, and you just went at it from every angle possible. I think that's more like what I was attempting to say.
Anyways this was more of an observation of your style of writing than anything :)

I think Rod is an interesting and efficient character with an important role! He isn’t the most likeable personality in the world so I understand why he doesn’t have a lot of fans but he’s super important to Uprising.

I think rod was maybe right from the beginning, maybe staying locked up within the walls and staying in the unknown was the best solution for the eldians of paradise, and if historia had agreed to continue the ritual would willy have declared war on paradise?
there is two ways of thinking, on one hand you stay locked up and live in the unknown or to be free and face the world,
I am anime only and the question I ask myself is: does being free necessarily mean living happily and peacefully? wasn't the solution of karl fritz and then rod reiss a better one?, is eren's obsession to be free is so big that the idea of being happy is forgotten (in the perspective of other)?
yes Rod was a horrible father, but you need to have a person who can sacrifice his family and supervise the plans of Karl Fritz, he reminded me of eren kruger ,people who hide in the shadow of a bigger cause, the kind of people who do not confront the problem directly, and prefer to remain in the background to ensure the continuity of their cause
I like how isayama portrays rod reiss as the worst person in the world and i'm sure he is , but when you look at the character from another angle and can tell that he wasn't that far off the mark, i'm not saying he's right but his perspectives deserves to be listened to

Aside from Sargent Gross, the Marleyan public security officer that caused Fay's death, I find Yelena to be one of the most easily dislikable characters that attack on titan has to offer. She's hella drunk on her zealotry for Zeke, almost as drunk as Eren is on freedom. I don't mean that her writing is easily criticized, but just likability as a viewer.
True... she wanted to use Historia as a machine breeder for her royal blood,also the survey corps works for her and Zeke glad she got lifetime jailed for trying to fool Mikasa,Jean,Armin,etc.

Anyone here a fan of Akatsuki no Requiem? Personally I think it's pretty bad but I'm open to opinions. I've never head a great explanation for why it should be taken seriously, it totally misunderstands the message and characters

Just read it as a fanfic. The OG is the ending. AnR is just a what-if (a bad imo but that's what it is in theory) with some retcons.
Fan of the Anr theory, not an enjoyer of the fan made story though as it handles dialogue in the second half poorly well taking too long to build up the conclusion well drawing out certain moments. Also didn't like the last 3 chapters, because of miscontrueded motivations and retcons.
People put way too much stock into a theory that ended up being wrong and got salty when their headcanon didn't pan out. That's all that fanfic is, and I'd have fun with it if it was executed well but it's just not lol

That’s quite an unfair thing to say given that, outside of Yelena, I’ve covered Medarda, Mayuri, Kurisu, Komugi, Pakunoda, Machi, Yuffie, Tifa, Aerith, Casca, Pitou (if they count for you), Shinobu, Midna, Koto, Haru, Edelgard, Rhea, Kikyo, Yoko, Nia, Ryuko, Satsuki, multiple Harry Potter females, Akane, Saki, Eva, Rem, Emilia, Saber and Irisviel to at least a notable extent. There are more males covered because anime tend to have more prominent male characters, but there is no shortage of females covered here.

@@seemonuzumaki723 To add (if we include the whole final arc): Falco and Gabi for reasons of irrelevancy, Jean for never fulfilling his leadership plotline or his rivalry with Eren, Connie for the shallow ending to his mom’s plotline, Onyankopon for never having a resolution for freeing his nation, Pieck for never even having a concrete character arc, and Ymir for having a dumb as shit character arc.
Plus the rushed goodbye to all the dead shifters, especially Bertholdt (he in Armin’s mind or what?).
Still love Zeke’s ending though, even if it was rushed.

Jean did show his leadership in several occations. I would've personally liked to see more of it, but it was definitely there. Also Jean played a really importnt part during the last section of the story. Both thematic and character wise. Idk what exactly you expected him to do against Eren? Jean was a regular person while Eren became a god of destruction. What would you want him to do? It was Jean who set off the explotions on Eren's nape, so he definitely played a major part in taking down Eren.
How was Connie's ending shallow? There ws a lot of focus on Connie in this last part too, more than the rest of the series. He wanted to bring his mom back and Eren made that happen. What else did you want?
Onyankopon was a pretty minor character and we never saw his nation. Wasn't really relevant to the story.
What character arc did you want Pieck to have? Maybe be a bit more specific about what you want out of her character? She wanted to safe her dad, fight along the people she trusted and take down Eren for attacking Marley. What do you want from her?
I agree with you on Founder Ymir, though she's just an exposition character recently introduced. I never really cared for her to begin with, other than for getting more lore on the titans origins.
