Oh man!!!… you and Will so need to compose a cookbook bro!!!
Wish like hell we had water here in Mississippi that clear just off the bank!!!
BTW… can’t believe you never cooked “greens” before!
That’s just a way of life here!!!
I had a awesome Mustard, collard, turnip and spinach crop this season up till the bitter cold we had around Christmas! … everything froze! I covered up my carrots, onions and garlic and they all doing good now ! Got my sweet potato slips started and ready for spring gardens 👍
Thanks for awesome viewing experience bro!

I was born and raised in Alaska. So I’ve always had a subsistence mentality when hunting or fishing.
Had a certain amount of time to fill your freezer.
Now I’ve been in Florida for 6 years and I’m loving that I no longer feel the pressure of filling a freezer.
I get to go out and just catch enough for a day or two.
I haven’t frozen any fish in those 6 years.
Your channel and philosophy is so encouraging and respected.
You are living your best life in heaven on earth.
Thank you again for sharing with your viewers.

pretty wild you mentioned that as I was thinking about it the other day. we are extremely fortunate in that sense that we can harvest year round when most have to stock up to survive the winters. truly blessed to live this life, happy to share 🙏

@@KeyWestWaterman I absolutely love that about Florida.
I never know what I’m going to bring home. But I can almost guarantee it’s going to be delicious.
I’ve heard sooo many different opinions of what some consider a “trash” fish.
But I’ve experimented with these fish anyway.
I try various recipes with the same fish until I find that ONE recipe that fits the specific fish.
I’m a huge fan of Jack crevalle in ceviche.
It firms up to like the consistency of shrimp and really takes on the citrus flavors.
Sooo many people told me to never eat them though.

I'm from the Pacific North West Cascades outside of the Seattle area and grew up filling the freezer too. We did alot of summer gardening and canning in the fall, then fruits and alot of winter clamming, oysters and smoked salmon.
Aaron has taught me everything I need to know here in The Keys for consistently aquiring fresh fish.

    • @aarontrenton1730

      @@Christian_Tango_Christ Yeah it’s definitely a different mindset.
I am definitely enjoying the freedom to catch and eat the freshest of the fresh.
I still go back to Ak from time to time to get a little bit of salmon to smoke.

My grandpa and I will still take some extra when we fish together (staying under our limit always, just taking more than we need that specific trip) because we don’t know when he’ll be in good enough health to go again and we wanna be able to eat plenty and recall the good trips when we eat.

Aaron, your channel has become such a favorite at our house! Its become our family tradition Monday evenings I get home from work late and the kids wants to do "dinner theater" with Key West Waterman and Deer Meat For Dinner while we're eating supper. Our kids have mean parents that don't let them have much screen time individually so we do "Dinner Theater" then we talk about conservation and safety and wisely caring for the world around us. Thanks for a nice segment, I've always loved snorkelling in the mangroves, even when it gets tight and silty...I prefer using rocket fins and skulling rather than kicking, keeps the silt down...I doubt the keys have deep mangroves, where the water gets like tea and you feel you're the only man on an exotic planet...I just love mangroves 😍...thanks for the dive safety stuff too...even shallow water can mess you up if the weather changes and that easy passage thru the reef turns into a nightmare of foam and sharp coral....I had to swim 1\2 mile to the nearest channel in Cayman once, then it took me 2 hrs to get 50 yards in against the outflow...lol , old divers and the stupid prizes you get for playing stupid games😁 thanks again bro, really appreciate your work

Awesome way to salvage a windy day! Not sure how you can stay still for 10 minute intervals this time of year, but glad you can and bring us weekly videos. Thanks for keeping us sane while the weather is blowing!
For safety reasons to our fellow spearos, the float with flag in the video may not meet Florida requirements. Florida regs 327.331 say something like, if using a flag, require a 12x12 inch flag that has a stiffener or is completely flat at rest (without wind).
Obviously Aaron is completely safe from boat traffic in the video and has explained his safety methodology, so please listen to him!

    • @KeyWestWaterman
      @KeyWestWaterman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

one thing you reminded me of with advice to youngsters when in the water trust your gut. Sombrero reef was outstanding on Saturday. I rocked the exact same shirt (no hood) you have on when I was in Key West and bouncing around Islamorada/Marathon. Love the shallow water stuff. Back in the '70's '80's we used to spearfish off Palm Beach in 4 feet to 30 feet, the current got really strong any deeper cause of the gulf stream. Never bothered with a flag, law enforcement was lax back then and the sound of the boats carried really far. Tried it again a few years ago, all legal with a flag and a float and the shore had changed so much I couldn't find the structure.

I learned this in SEAISA for twent years, i love fillet. But a full cooked grilled or friend fish over a fire has an incredible flavor almost doesn’t matter the fish. The V always use fresh line with salt and pepper as a dipping sauce is almost perfect.
They will then make rice porridge with the broth and a few chunks of fish in. Delicious. And som fish sauce with pepper dipping sauce. Hard to beat and so simple

Just came back from Cudjoe Key last Thursday, it was so windy the whole time I was there but did catch a snook surf fishing on one off the side of the road beaches on rt.1. I was so happy because I was just being a lazy fisherman, chilling a sunbathing and didn't expect to catch anything lol.

I wonder if freshwater crawfish traps would catch shrimp, little crabs and bait fish? You could probably catch a bunch of bait and maybe dinner that way. Some regular stone crab and blue crab traps would be cool too and make good content. You get plenty of fish heads and guts and bone racks for bait to put in traps. I think it's a good idea.
Once I. The Keys we caught squid at night around lights. A treble hook and bit of shrimp was perfect and the squid were much better bait fresh than frozen.
Oh and if you have crab traps you'll find tripletail under them once in a while.

it may work who knows, I understand the appeal of traps but I also really enjoy the active harvest.
