Hi Ollie thank you for Choosing Samoa for your fishing show it’s amazing to see our homeland on your show. Awesome to see you experienced some beautiful Samoan hospitality and cuisine while there.
Thank you for visiting our beautiful island. I’m Samoan born and raised but now reside in the United States of America. I left home back in 1994 and haven’t been back since. 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
❤ I just love how you use your experience from NZ shore and use it in the shore of Samoa not many divers goes beyond the reefs but you have actually showed it’s not as scary as they use to describe growing up there🙏 stay safe and enjoy the hospitality Samoan is offering my brother❤
Chehooo, wonderful scenery and an amazing footage of spear fishing. Thanks for taking us along on that adventure. Bugger about the feast, oh well next time. Thanks again Ollie, loving the channel.
With Mu, dust some sand or rub your finger on coral but the key is to look down, don’t let them see your eyes for as long as you can and they’ll come in 🤙🏽. Love your respect for each fish you shoot and the places you dive, thanks for sharing! I can’t wait to dive a place like Samoa and shoot some fat red snapper!
Back in the 70’s I did a fair bit of spearfishing in Australia and you’re so right about not letting most fish see your eyes! I was very wary about having any speared fish near my body! Always used a fish float with 60’ of line, one end to the float and the other end to my gun if I had to drop the gun for any reason. Really loving the videos as I don’t dive anymore.
Those drummers are great eating. I used to spear them in Australia. I'd love to visit Samoa. Those little places on the beach look amazing. And the people too...can't ask for much more.
2nd spot was lolomanu beach, my mates family owns the area. That island off the coast has great surfing and fishing, we were there 3 years ago and got a double GT hookup on one lure!!!!😜
For anyone interested, at the second spot Ollie speared 2 red fish. One is a red bass and the other is a mangrove jack. I would dare say the mangrove jacks are a bit rarer and smarter. Good catch!
Yes it is important to know this because while mangrove jack are fine red bass have a bad reputation for Ciguatera poisoning in Australia. Neither are mou.
@@markumbers5362 Mu means red in samoan thats why they call both of those fish Mu. Also I can say that Red Bass are ok for cig in Samoa having speared and eaten quite a few big ones. However to be safe I would go for the smaller models
@@novizadventures OK common names are always tricky and incredibly variable. I get mu from Ryan Myers. Mu is the Hawaiian name for Monotaxis grandoculis. I spent 35 years in the recreational fishing industry in Australia. It is crazy the amount of common name confusion :).
You beat me to that one I was just going to jump on that one and say exactly what you have said.good looking Jack I wouldn't bother spearing that garbage red bass.
Nice Mangrove Jack at 17.45min. Brillant eating With the MSP and Muu don't chase them, lay on the bottum and sand dust. Don't take long shots on MSPs as they will hang in the same location. They love their Bombie and caves. Red bass are srsly meh eating and will stay around for ever esspically if you chum up, shoot them last as they will spook the Muu/Jack's and MSP
Heartbreaking coming to the end of your vids sometime, especially this beautiful location with our Samoan cuzzies. Was there any party happening around the rugby league World Cup? I reckon you could easily do a one off Ollie Movie if the internet speed allowed. You are now up there Ollie with your presentation and now on occasion introducing your buddies makes it great viewing. Thank you Ollie, always exciting to see a new vid.
Samoa people supposed to love swimming,no shark no dangerous fish around their ocean, beautiful island.and bro , Samoa people love to eat shark to, just kilii shark and give to people 👌👌👌👌😋
ship i just spotted 1 hawaiian sling 5' 2" 1 piece fibreglass and 1, 2piece aluminium 7'2" both with rubbers and 5 prong head and 2 special american 12 " long 3 prong speargun screw heads that are totally wicked when they hit a fish has no barbs but penetrate and spread apart no matter where you hit the fish its yours never lost a fish there that bloody good chow GRUMPY
Hey Ollie, awesome to see you in my beautiful samoa😍😍 love your videos and if you ever mission over to whitianga in the coromandel would love to go for a slay with ya🤙🤙
Glad that you enjoyed your trip to our humble Country of Samoa. It’ll be much better If was joining yous so you’ll experience Samoan traditional spearfishing and spot its different.
Ollie I don’t know if my eyes were playing tricks on me. But one of those fish was a red bass (snapper) and one was a mangrove jack. I’m almost certain they weren’t the same fish
Yes that's what I was thinking when I shot the second one that it was a bit different looking and a few others have commented the same. Great! another specie off the list!
Ollie brother thank you for this video. Appreciate the promotion of my peaceful Samoa. Wish I met you brother would’ve taken you to better spearfish in spots. Let me know when you want to come next. See you soon

Stay at the Asaga Inn on Ofu Island (AmSam) and talk with owner Tasele Scanlon. Amazing spear fisherman. He catches the fish guests eat for meals.
Haven’t been to American Samoa, might look into it 👍 much cheaper holiday in Western Samoa however
In Hawaii we call the unicorn fish "Kala". Simple right?
