9:59 Three penalties in one play by a single player who didn’t get ejected is actually quite impressive
And then he commits a fourth and he should've been. I'd probably have tossed him for the play myself. Because I think that second penalty plus the UC they did call would be a flagrant.
@@michaelfalkner1186 He should have gotten a second unsportsmanlike conduct penalty when he was following the ref, running his mouth again, with helmet off, got stopped by the other ref and his teammates, then went toward the ref again, and gave that little "get over here" (and I'll straighten you out) gesture.

"All 4 penalties combine for 84 years forwards, since the ball is past the 16 yard line of the offense, that is an automatic touchdown. There is a 3 1/2 quarter clock rundown, the game is over." 7-0
15 yards, 15 yards, 1/2 to the goal, 1/2 again to the goal, 1/2 again to the goal. The ball will be placed at the 1 and a sixteenth yard, automatic first down.
The Raiders and Seahawks would be screwed
They were on the 45 yard line so its half the distance to the goal and an automatic first down.
Just put the line in the parking lot lmao

Everybody knows Sherman is a borderline genius and it shows here. Instead of doing 1 foul on 3 plays, he does 3 fouls in 1 play. Simply amazing
He really only committed 2. The third one was complete bs
It's a masterwork of efficiency. You make 3 foul plays but only get penalized for 1. Sheer genius.
@@IkLms11 Looked to me like he only had one, which was the 3rd one. He was justifiably mad that he got called for pass interference, when it wasn't even that. If you look back, you see he is simply covering his guy, and the receiver suddenly changes routes and tries to cut inside of Sherman, and they get tangled up and fall to the ground. Then he gets called for something that was the fault of the receiver, so ofc he was mad. But, if you blow up at the refs, even if you are right and they are wrong, you are still of course going to get called for a UC penalty.
@Civ33 lol no way. He was clearly playing the man not the ball and he hooked him with his arm. That PI all day.

What's the difference between roughing the punter and running into the punter. Arent those the same? Kinda?
@@RaceTrac2020 running into the punter is 5 yards, that's usually when they clip the punters legs or just bump them.
Roughing the punter is more serious, that's 15 yards and is like running into them full speed and clocking them or flat out tackling them. Punters sometime get injured because of that.
@@royals1231 hmm. I just started liking football.. I'm 26. My nephew is doing fantasy football. I watched a few games with him. I told him it was stupid.. he said "I'll get u to like it." He did!!
It also depends on what side you come in from. Running into the kicker is usually if contact is made with the kicking leg, roughing usually is contact with the planted leg.
I can understand these refs stuttering when talking. Trying to remember all that with thousands of people watching you. I'd probably just stand there and smile in fear and sputter nonsense with my hands moving randomly like Ricky Bobby.
They're not stuttering to remember most of the time, one of the other refs is shouting what the penalties are to them :D
@@ScaledNotesMusic Yep! Trying to remember what the other ref is saying while you are saying it can get confusing for most people. It's hard for many people to try and say what someone else is saying at the same time.
Honestly better to just have a small notebook. We know the refs aren't perfect, why the pageantry of having them try to remember that much info at once? Just write it down.

@@maitrikp5364
Not a joke but pure logic. It seems obvious at first glance that the team with more penalties should get penalized, but think of it like this:
This game is not a contest of who infringes less. If you make a foul, you get penalized, or at the very least you don't deserve to be rewarded. If both teams commit even a single penalty on the play, neither deserves to be rewarded. It doesn't matter if one makes 3 fouls and the other only 1, both don't get rewarded so it's offset.
He gets paid to kick
My brother played high school football and once the kickers foot got caught in my brother's face mask and stuck so tight it was just locked in there. So, they both fall to the ground. A penalty? Yes. He got "roughing the kicker."

The Seahawks/Rams one is beyond insane and hilarious, but by far the funniest part of it is the fact the guy who had 2 fouls called on him (#34) came NOWHERE NEAR running into the kicker, it was actually #38, and somehow the commentators failed to realize. Also, hearing the head official explain all the fouls in such an irritated yet comical manner while seeing Pete Carroll frantically chew his gum with a worried look on his face while Jeff Fisher is all stone-faced and pissed with his arms crossed had me absolutely rolling! Any live ball penalties (at least one by each team) offset. "By rule."
If a team gets 2 or more penalties, under the rules the opposing team has to choose one to accept. The others are declined by default.

they should really change that offsetting penalties thing. Like if my entire offense commits unnecessary roughness and the defense is offsides that fact that that offsets is insane
I think the offsetting rule depends on the total Yardage penalty. For example, if the offence team commits 2 penalties worth a 5-yard penalty and the defensive team commits a 10-yard penalty, they offset.

Tide Bleach Unofficial because NFL math
The CTE really getting to those refs lol.
Because only one of the 4 penalties gets accepted, the rest are declined so they don't factor in anymore. And the two accepted penalties offset each other.
At least that's how I interpret it, I don't know if that's how it's officiated.
Well basic logic says that each team can accept one penalty, so in reality with multiple penalties called each team still will only have one counting against them; But if both teams have a penalty against them, they offset and the play is done over.
@@pcppbadminton I believe unnecessary roughness, unsportsmanlike conduct, and other such conduct fouls don't count on this? I could be mistaken. But I believe a gameplay foul and a conduct foul can both be accepted by a team on one play.

@@DatBoi1906 also thought that xD
I wonder what the actual maximum number of penalties is, in a single play.
There are 7 field referees in the NFL, so that's 7 flags (one from each of them). However, each referee may also throw their hat as a substitute flag, if they need to call a second penalty in the same play, so that's 14 flags so far. Now, historically, the NFL has also used an eighth referee, known as the "deep judge". This was another field ref who could again throw out two "flags", therefore increasing our total to 2*8, or 16 total penalties.
All that being said, there is also the "replay booth" which while not an official referee, does have the ability to dispense penalties and in some rare cases, even expel players from play (for particularly egregious fouls). However, it is unclear whether or not the replay booth (or more correctly referred to as the "Sky Ref") can dispense more than one penalty, or if they can even interject in normal play. But, we can totally account for all 3 options.
So in total, the most possible penalties in one play of NFL football, is...
14 without a deep judge referee or a penalty form the replay booth.
16 with a deep judge referee but no penalty from the replay booth.
17 with a deep judge referee and one penalty from the replay booth.
17+ with a deep judge referee and multiple penalties from the replay booth.
Now you have this utterly useless information, may it serve you well.
Thank you Kind sir.
Some officials carry a second flag as well. They also have a bean bag, generally used to mark where a ball goes out of bounds or is fumbled.

The same coach who threw a tantrum about "loopholes" when the Patriots beat him with an offset line and an ineligible running back.
There was a bills play where we kept getting penalties until it was like 40 and goal. Every time Allen would look at the refs and roll his eyes throwing another touchdown pass only for it not to count for whatever penalty. It got to the point where Allen asked the refs how many times he’s going to need to throw a touchdown. He got it tho
