Thank! I am glad you mentioned the boots. I have already made a prototype and want to start working on the actual ones next month. They are a huge project and it has a been a bit daunting to start.
Hey Teran! I am new to the world of leather craft and I am wanting to make an ostrich leg leather watch strap. Material-wise, would I make it fairly similarly to the stingray watch strap that you made? I am not entirely sure about the thicknesses of the materials that I need to use in order to make the perfect watch strap, so if you could help me out that would be great! :)
Hi Simon. In terms of thickness stingray and ostrich leg are very similar, both around 1-1.5mm and can be used in a similar way. Stingray is different to other leathers as it is covered with hard nodules that make it difficult to cut. As a basic guide on a watch strap you could try for 1-1.5mm for the exterior, 1mm for the inside lining and a 3mm for the core to help give it shape.
@@TeranAtelier Awesome, thank you so much. I just bought the actual ostrich leg leather itself, do you have a good recommendation on where to get the materials for the core and interior lining?
@@simonjudah8770 For the core material you can simply use veg tan leather and shape it as required. For the interior, again veg tan is best but be careful as some leathers can cause skin irritation. Zermatt leather from Tanneries Haas is is the best leather for the interior as it is hypoallergenic, sweat resistant and water resistant. You can get Zermatt online from Rocky Mountain leather supply.
Turn out very nice ! I ❤ it .
