    I LOVE your videos. Your leather work is really good! Not sure if this would help or hinder but for sewing fabric garments there is a product called fusible interfacing (Joann Fabrics). You iron it to the wrong side of the fabric and it offers more support and body. You could try using that to provide a barrier and prevent the bleed-through of glue. It is made of a non-woven material that has no space for the bleed through to happen. There is also an iron on glue called Wonder Under which is in the same area of the store as the fusible interfacing. It is a 2-sided heat fusible glue for fabric. So you would fuse it to the fabric, peel the fabric backing off of the Wonder Under and then fuse it to the leather. I have no idea how effective it would be to fuse leather (would heat from the iron affect the leather). Both of the above items should be experimented with before using on your masterpiece folio, etc. I am really impressed with your knowledge and skill with leather!

    I've been wanting to buy a leather folder or TSL canvas+leather insert folder/wallet. I look at them but I just couldn't hit "checkout". One reason is definitely the price, and second I wasn't swooning over any of them. I couldn't figure out what was missing.... until your last video. Seeing your passport cover open up then the folder made it's debut. It's the fabric lining, that combo of leather and vintage floral is my heart song.
    I'm also more of a maker than an artist. I think it's time to start making what I want.
    Thanks for your videos, all of them, since you've been back. I connected to your video regarding your daughter. Thanks for sharing.

    Super cool to see the process! I loved the look of the florals poking out of the leather in your other video and didn’t even notice the glue splotches until you pointed them out here. I think it turned out really cool!

    I love seeing you work with things I've never used. Even at an 'amateur' level, I think we can all learn from each other and different areas of crafting. Makes me really want to pick something up to make with my hands!! And this folder is just absolutely beautiful.

    I love this!! When I first discovered your channel, I watched your video where you stitched a pocket onto an existing traveler's notebook. I believe you were just starting your leather crafting journey. I bought the same tools and started my own journey. I now have a workbench and my own stash of leather and if I see something I like, I make it!
    Thank you for helping to give me my start! ❤️

    Hi Sarah. Thank you for sharing the process. Love watching crafting videos too ❤️❤️❤️. I have always wanted the goat folder, but like you. I told myself to reign in on the consumerism and craft your stash. I’ve made a few of the passport size photo paper flip books to scrapbook photos on. Sometimes my paper crafting makes me feel silly amongst my planner friends, but paper crafting is so therapeutic for me and I love the result. I have 3 boxes of water Buffalo Hyde leather my friend gave me from work (saddle shop maker) and need to give it away. I forgot it was even there.

      I’m listening to your projects and hearing where you buy the leather. You’re saving hundreds and learning new skills along the way. I love Darcy Austen leather. I’m trying to find a maker who uses it for a custom piece. I just love the result of your folder. Have grace with yourself. You did a phenomenal job!!!!

      “Craft your stash” I love that! And so true. Keep up with your paper crafting! I know of people that purchase leather they love then ask a maker/shop if they will make a cover for them if they send the leather to the shop. Makers South did this when they were in business. So you may want to ask a smaller shop if they’ll do that😊

    • @MamaGraciePlans
      @MamaGraciePlans 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sarahmartinezjournals never realized that makers would do that thanks for the knowledge. Makers south was a great shop. Sad they shut down. Crispian was so nice. I found them in early 2019 and ordered 2 pieces.

    I just found this video, hoping to learn how to glue fabric to leather. Even though your experiment didn't go as planned it turned out nicely 🙂.
    Since this video is over two years old, you've probably figured this out, but just in case...
    I singe my threads with either a Bic style lighter or I use an electric thread zapper I found on Amazon. I smush the threads down with the lighter and it works well. I'm guessing the matches are producing a dirty flame and giving off soot that is leaving the black/dark spot. I'm still learning myself, but I've found both of these to work well.
    I'll be sure to check out some of your other videos!

    Sarah, I know you will not remember, but I clearly recall a video of yours that I watched 18 months or so ago. I carefully followed your planner challenge as explained in that video. I left a comment and suggested you try the Bullet Journal method and the travellers notebook system. I for one are so pleased that not only are you in a TN, you are in passport size! I am full-on bullet journaling in my passport size TN. I just turn the insert to have a top/bottom page instead of left/right. I very much enjoyed this video. I applaud your bravery and your gorgeous planners. Much 💕

      I remember, Marianne!😊 Passport is so great, right? I’m so happy in it. I’m actually playing with a hand-drawn vertical weekly insert to add to it. Hoping it works out. But it’s so easy and fun to experiment with different inserts in such a small size!

    You are absolutely an artist, Sarah! BEAUTIFUL work and you think so creatively. You may want to try Heat & Bond as the adhesive. You could do double-sided and iron the fabric directly onto the leather (I haven't done this, so I don't know how leather would respond) or do single-sided and then use a different adhesive to the leather. That would prevent the Barge leakage, altho I think it adds a nice vintagey vibe of a tea-stained look.

    • @sarahmartinezjournals
      @sarahmartinezjournals  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I’ve watched a lot of different saddle stitching videos over the years and tweaked my technique along the way. Just keep adjusting with every project till you’re happy with the outcome! I actually don’t burnish edges. I’m a fan of raw edges, haha.

  • @FrenchyInFocus

    I would buy these from you in a heartbeat to be completely honest. I love this!!! My favortite part is the stitching, it's so relaxing! I wish my standard zipper much was longer, especially the superior labor one. It's almost too short to wrap around one notebook insert. 😒
    Have you tried PVA glue for book binding?? I use this on bibles and leather work, it's strong yet flexible. I learned this from a well known bible rebinder and it just works too good!

    Thank you, Sarah! I still think this folder turned out great - you cannot see the blotchiness you say the cement caused. It's also fun seeing quilting tools like the clear ruler and the [pizza-cutter which has a real name I've forgotten!] used in leatherwork.
    Is it a rotary cutter? I think it's a rotary cutter.

    • @sarahmartinezjournals
      @sarahmartinezjournals  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! The glue seeped through and stained the fabric which I didn’t like. The bond is really strong though, especially on the raw edges that rub against the elastic.
