    I don’t plan to make leather handles. I’m using fabric, or vinyl but this is hands down the easiest way i have seen to do this! AND…with a pattern! This is awesome!
    A tip for tapering rope. Wrap tape on the end and the cut it at an angle. I would use a rotary cutter to avoid fraying, then use some fray check. (I just use stick glue).

      Thanks for the tip. I have used rope previously until I started with leather cord which I find a lot easier to work with.

    Como consigo los moldes de cartón?

  • @dmitriyobidin6049
    @dmitriyobidin6049 ปีที่แล้ว

    6:25 If you go with the first method - burnishing will be an inferior edge finishing technique. Or, you should also glue pieces together during the stitching. Without glueing it will be hard to achieve a good finish with burnishing.

    • @TeranAtelier
      @TeranAtelier  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are using a firm veg tan leather that isn't overly thin you should still be able to get a nice burnished edge without applying glue. Gluing while stitching would be quite difficult and messy.

    Thank you for that great tutorial. Is it also advisable to craft such a handle from full quill ostrich leather (maybe with veg tan liner?) for a duffle bag, for example?

    • @TeranAtelier
      @TeranAtelier  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like a great project. You may want to add some reinforcement tape to the inside of the ostrich handle if you are worried about stretching.

    • @TheGizmoGremlin
      @TheGizmoGremlin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TeranAtelier Thanks. I will try the liner for the handle and for the rest of the bag, I think that 2mm of ostrich leather may be enough. Would you agree as I do not have very much experience with ostrich leather?

    • @TeranAtelier
      @TeranAtelier  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGizmoGremlin I have not worked with ostrich body yet but as long as you are lining the bag it should be fine. You can add interlining reinforcement tape to areas that will have a lot of tension such as the tabs that wrap around D-rings etc which will prevent stretching over time.

    • @TheGizmoGremlin
      @TheGizmoGremlin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TeranAtelier great, thank you once more. And how do you stitch the one corner stich in the d ring area?

    • @TeranAtelier
      @TeranAtelier  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGizmoGremlin You should be able to see if you watch the video slowly. The right needle comes out through the corner hole and the left needle goes into the corner hole and out of the hole on the outside of the opposite side.

    When you bent the handle will some creases form on the inner side of the handle? Is this normal? But they don't always exist. I see some bags with creeses on inner side of the handles and some without. What it depends on leather or something else?

    • @TeranAtelier
      @TeranAtelier  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it depends on a few factors such as type of leather, leather thickness, handle thickness and bending radius. You can try to remove the creases by stretching and molding the handle by hand and smoothing out the crease.

    • @MaryLou-jv2zp
      @MaryLou-jv2zp ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TeranAtelier But if some creases remain will this affects quality of the handle, i.e will those creases will wear out quickly or crack?

  • @damato8636
    @damato8636 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello. Does it matter in which direction to cut the handles on the skin? I mean how to position the template

    • @TeranAtelier
      @TeranAtelier  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The core material of the handles should be substantial enough that it prevents the leather of the handle from stretching. If you do not plan to use a core then the leather towards the the center of the hide running parallel to the direction of the spine has the least amount of stretch and it is normally used for belts.

      The video does skip a bit where I pass the needles in around the center hole, but when you see when the threads being pulled the way the threads are stitched. The threads are stitched in a way that the material around the center hole is pulled into the corner.
