  • A classic black crocodile leather zipper wallet
    In this video I make a zipper wallet using black crocodile leather in a matte finish. For the interior and lining I use Rose colored Buttero vegetable tanned leather. The bone section of the crocodile is included on the spine of the wallet to give an interesting look.
    Materials Used:
    - Crocodile leather
    - Buttero vegetable tanned leather (1mm and 0.6mm thick)
    - Fil au Chinois Lin Cable 432 linen thread (0.63mm)
    - YKK #3 zipper s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_Acj652
    - Vernis edge paint
    - Paraffin wax/beeswax mix
    - Contact cement

    I like your easy way of making a wallet. The video is done well and the copiers will not face difficulty to reproduce it. I did several long wallets before, but too much stitching, which I don't like. Thanks for the Pattern. What brand glue you used here?

    • @TeranAtelier
      @TeranAtelier  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I mainly used solvent based contact cement (clear yellow colour) but also used some Aquilim 315 (white) around the zipper.

    • @TeranAtelier
      @TeranAtelier  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! The A4 prints will still work if you select 'actual size' or '100% scaling' on your letter type printer. You may have part of the print missing at the top and bottom of the page but the pattern will be unaffected.

    Could I do the same with fish skin ? I bought some cause the pattern seemed cool and it was cheap I also like the idea of potentially making some whenever I keep a fish

    • @TeranAtelier
      @TeranAtelier  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you could use fish skin for the exterior. Just make sure that the fish skin is fully lined to give it some strength.

    Do you think a 20-tooth stitching punch is helpful in improving stitching details, especially for wallets?

    • @TeranAtelier
      @TeranAtelier  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sounds a bit excessive and expensive but it might be useful for smaller irons like 2.7mm because the overall length would be shorter. It is only going to help keep the stitching line straight and uniform.

      @pequodexpress 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TeranAtelier I need to improve the symmetry in my stitches going over card pockets. The best price I've seen is for Isvara: CNY 680.

    Thanks so much for this video. It's great! Question: What do you mean by "dry burnish"? (At 16:03)

    • @TeranAtelier
      @TeranAtelier  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are most welcome! Dry burnishing is when you burnish without adding water or gum tragacanth to the edge. It is one of the steps in my edge painting video th-cam.com/video/VKqgc5iUjCQ/w-d-xo.html which will help to round off the leather/paint transition and make it smoother.

    Does anyone know where I can get some good quality crocodile leather ?

    What temperature setting do you use for creasing and what temperature do you use for spreading the edge paint and beeswax?

    • @TeranAtelier
      @TeranAtelier  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My temperature settings are inaccurate as I have that heat conduction issue with my electric creaser. Basically wax is the lowest temperature, medium temperature for creasing veg tan so it doesn't burn, medium-high for chrome tan or exotics and high temp for smoothing Vernis edge paint (depends on edge paint).

    • @pequodexpress
      @pequodexpress 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TeranAtelier My Vulcan hasn't arrived yet, so I'm still using the iron like yours. I've been setting the iron to 400 C for creasing calf, goat, and bridle. I use max 450C for attempting to spread Uniters. I don't think the tip gets hot enough with these irons.

    • @TeranAtelier
      @TeranAtelier  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pequodexpress I think you are also having the same heat conduction issue as me. At an actual 400 C you should be burning everything. You can still use the temperatures as a basic scale only, I think the Vulcan only has reference numbers and no temperatures.

    • @pequodexpress
      @pequodexpress 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TeranAtelier Now I'm curious. I will test the tip with a temp meter for soldering irons.

    • @pequodexpress
      @pequodexpress 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TeranAtelier Maxed out at 450 C, the tip got to 112C. And it took at least seven minutes to get that hot. This is with a stainless steel tip welded to a brass setting with a post that extends about 10mm into the soldering iron. I would expect higher temps with a post that extends deeper into the iron.
