Excellent demonstration I deal with small engines I normally just heat a bearing up to get it out but sometimes it’s still hard to get out but one of these will be a great help thanks for sharing this

How do you remove a bearing like this when the ball race has fallen apart and you’re left with just the outer race? Heat it?
Would you choose an oven at 230F over the heat gun? It seems like the heat gun takes a good amount of time to reach 230F, so doesnt a majority of heat get transferred to the bearing anyway? Similar to putting the case inside the oven? I might try the oven and then shock the bearing with cold water towel like you mentioned. Having trouble removing several blind bearings from a 2003 yz250. I bought a slide hammer tool, but the lip of the collet piece is too thick. There is not enough free space behind the bearing for the tool to catch. So the removal tool is only held on by compression.
The "bread" or "grease and paper towel" trick will not work on a couple of the bearings. But i found your awesome videos and wonder if i should go with the heat gun or the oven. If i use the heat gun......what temp setting? I wonder if too high of a setting could warp the case similar to what you mentioned about the propane torch.

Just heat the case in an oven for a period, and then bang the case down onto a solid wooden bench etc and they usually fall out

I'm a little late to the party but I removed that roller bearing by pulling out the roller bearings from the race. Rendering the old bearing unuseable. Which shouldn't matter since you are replacing it anyway. After the needle bearings and retainer is out you can heat up around it and use a pilot bearing puller on it.

What about rollers, the bearing come out leaving the shell still stuck in the casing, and cannot get behind it? thanks any way,

Rikki Jones I never reuse a bearing pulled as its integrity “has” to be hurt from the balls banging the race when removed.

if you dont have bearing puller. Just use. Paper, socket that fits the bearing hole. and water.

you can do this easier without using this tool. just put some bread in the hole and tap with a hammer and an old drill that fits exactly in the hole. Each time add new bread and tap again, eventually the bearing is pushed out of the hole. it really works.
Come on my friend...It's by no means "easier". Also very time consuming when considering billable labor hours. BUT a fun and cool save the day trick. We did a video on it as well for fun...here it is: th-cam.com/video/cKcGeXxKyvs/w-d-xo.html

@@How2Wrench Yes, the bread (or grease, wet paper towel etc) tricks seem to work great. major downside I see to buying a proper slider hammer setup like used in this video is the expense ( exact same set goes for around $170 here in Canada)....for something a home mechanic will only use once in a blue moon. I've no problem buying proper/quality tools when I know they will be used enough to justify their cost.
Does that work on unshielded bearings? I would have thought the bread/grease would just ooze out between the balls.

you didn't remove the bearing that matters!
Which bearing is it
@@2strokemxclassics that needle roller bearing for the shift drum. But mine is Coming Out! There wasn't much of a gap under the bearing but with heat and a lever I moved the bearing up 040 or so and the collate is on the way! The grease/rag trick wont work here.

@@How2Wrench why not change them all why the cases are split? Probably the only and last time they'll be apart. But if only one or some are to be removed, then I would stake the others in place with tooth picks.
