I find it sad that the last comments on this superb performance were 9 years ago..there are few if any performers/performances like this any more I feel
I've never been able to get this song out of my head since my music teacher tried to get my 5th grade class to play this on xylophones. Forever burned in my memory thanks to Mr. Carey lol
M- "How was the concert?" U- "Great! He rode a bicycle around the stage." M- "What?" U- "The basest was the love child of Neo and Cypher from The Matrix. And the stage was spinning and there was a lady who thought she was a bird and everyone was dressed in black and all the men shaved their heads." M- "You took that whole bag of caps didn't you?" U- "I think I'm part of a cult now."
LOVE this song...37 years old and still rocking Peter Gabriel...Such a great tale of his departure from Genesis and new adventure as a legendary rock and roll star....ROCK ON!!!! BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!!
You have to love this. Playing to a packed house, singing one of his biggest hits on a stage-in-the-round, and he decides to pull out a bicycle and start biking around the stage. AND HE NEVER MISSES A NOTE!
Remember back in Genesis days when Peter shaved his hair down the middle? I do believe he's come full circle. Peter's best talent is the one he was born with - his remarkable voice - it has such an amazing texture - and he always knows just how to use it - be it with soft, subtle nuances or soaring crescendos.
Same for me! I was a little younger generation, but one of my friend introduced Peter Gabriel's music to me. This in a separate category compared almost anything else.
Peter Gabriel is seriously, the most random, creative, and amazing artist I have ever listened to. It makes me sad when in this decade, my friends don't even know who Genesis is, let alone Peter Gabriel or Phill Collins. It's to bad they are missing out on what real music is, not auto tuned music. PETER GABRIEL. FTW.
@mikelmart there are two many stars who can't shine, can shine only behind other stars, and so can't be recognised correctly. Tony Hands is surely a good one, i got his thirst album "a curious feeling". But i like the magic and mystery inside Peter Gabriel music. This music that catch you and never leave you till death, till the final mystery. this is why i like too Van Morisson Music.
What a beautiful FUCK OFF to Phil Collins and Genesis. He never mentions them by name, but sometimes that's the best revenge- to be so successful and so happy out on your own instead of hiding in the shadows of others. Good job, Peter!!!!!!
Kate Taylor Not really, as Only You have posited that Gabriel had a 'problem' with Genesis. Therefore it is incumbent upon You to present objectively verifiable evidence supporting this position - and not just your emotional opinion - in the absence of which, your point is moot.
Woah now, peter is still great friends with phil and the genesis guys!! Peter, Phil, Tony, Mike, and Steve are all wonderful in their own right! No need for this hate!
@raineman06 love h ow u put that: if it rode around stage on a bicycle. good one...talking about one of my veery most favorite of all songs ever....u can keep my things they've come to take me home.
@PJNARS it is 7/4. just saying that if one wanted to play it alternating each measure between 6/8 and 8/8, one could. it is either 1 and, 2 and, 3, and,..., 7 and OR 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. either way the cycle is 14 eight notes. for some reason i think this is less clear.
Does any1 else think of David Essex when you watch this.what David Essex looks like now I mean.what I call a true artist is Peter Gabriel.his song with Kate bush-don't give up gives you goose bumps
I just love this song. It reminds me of my late father. When I was at University, doing summer jobs in Snowdonia or living in Chester after I'd graduated, I had no car. So at the end of every term or when my jobs had finished or I left Chester he would always come and pick me up. We'd pack the car and he'd take me home. That was many years ago now,. But I still rememeber those special times, talking about sport, news, whatever or just falling asleep. I do the same now for my daughter. Me and my wife picking her up or taking her back tp her digs at University at the end or begining of every term. She lives in Italy now but I love those times driving her to or from Manchester Airport. Those early morning drives to the airport with no one on the motorway and she's sleeping or were talking about nothing much.
Was in Paris at dinner, my pal brought a guy... I turned to him and asked.. "so what do you do"? He replied "I'm Peter Gabriel's head engineer". Stunned, I asked a few burning questions. He said they were finishing "Up" and would gladly send me the final mix before it was released. Which he did. But here's my point, and something I will always regret. All I had to do was say I would be in town a little longer and would love to hang at the studio, he would have gladly accepted. But I didn't.
Amazing - Amazing song!!! Great interpretation and performance at this concert. One of my all time meaningfull songs!!!
love this song. love the playfulness of the presentation. tres bien, Peter.

He is so much fun. He lives for the live performance. Love the shared laugh he has at the end with Tony Levin.

It's actually all in 7/4. The chorus is in 4/4. Peter starts to sing on the 5 in the verse, it can throw some people off. Amazing song.
I have allways thought of Michael Jackson as the ultimate artist but this riding around the stage with a bicycle has really impressed me.
Good riding and singing.
+Paul Thompson Good riding and singing in seven.
You're easily impressed!
Just amazing!
What I love about him is that he doesn't try to wear the same clothes and haircut as when he was 20. And I think he is much sexier for it.
peter Gabriel is the best Singer of the world.
a real masterpiece
seen the concert with Big Billy Taylor, we rocked out
Anyone know who the back up singer is at 0:55? She's beautiful.
She is Melanie Gabriel, Peter's daughter.
Gabriel's daughter
darth108209 His daughter.

Probably the greatest most memorable song written in pop history. (Yes, and “friends will think I was a nut”)
What a beautiful FUCK OFF to Phil Collins and Genesis. He never mentions them by name, but sometimes that's the best revenge- to be so successful and so happy out on your own instead of hiding in the shadows of others. Good job, Peter!!!!!!
Kate Taylor What???????????????? It seems only you have a problem with Genesis.
sdushdiu *shrugs* you're entitled to your opinion. Thank you for sharing.
Kate Taylor
