I love when the audience starts singing the melody in the beginning and then BAM it starts up. Live performances is where it's at... especially when it comes to Peter Gabriel. I can't get enough of this concert. :)
at 1:06 in the song the crowd starts humming the intro theme that must be the proudest moments of being an artist and feeling the success of influencing the public
Man! I'm 72. I so wish I could move well as Peter. The big reveal was electric! I replayed it over 30 times to see at what point he was revealed. How ever it was done it was electric - no pun intended. Has time really passed by so fast? His presence is enthralling. I just love the bass and the snare drum entrance.
I remember dancing in the clubs to this and it's still one of my favorite songs to dance to. Yes he is older, heavier and better. He still turns me on!
ive said it enough times./ 60's 70's 80's music will never again be matched. no matter what. ... i'm 51 yrs old (damn the years flew by) , and i'm so lucky to have experienced the best music that will ever be./ as a grade schooler that was blown away by the beatles, to high school with black sabbath, led zep, pink floyd.../ i'll even take disco over rap anytime....lol.../ then, along came the 80's, with the music videos, funky hair,etc./ even radio today has no choice but to play 60's70's&80's
A great song. And, age gives us mastery over our respective crafts, and therefore, more inventive ways to present. That's what Peter and his crew did here. He sounds good.
What is amazing about him and lots of bands from back in then, they sound the same live in person as they do on the album. Not easy to do, but its quality music that will never get old, and thank god for that.
This is one of the best live performances I ever heard even though he is older he still achieves his awesomeness. I just love the croud in the beginning they are full of energy.
I have watched this video probably 50x at least..Im not the biggest PG fan, but Ive always loved this song, the beat, and the vocals..I THINK honestly that this version KILLS the studio version...LOVE IT..plus the audience in the beginning just drives this version over the top..awesome..
Oh, Man! I have this song in my music library! I bought the album, SO, in 1986. The song was influenced by Memphis label Stax! The Memphis Horns provided the horn track. This brings back great memories..love the vid! Thanks for posting.
OhhhhellToTheYes... this has got to be one of my favorite videos of all time. Even my kids love this video. Peter Gabriel is just a master of live performances, this this is just electric, the crowd is just totally into it. And he sounds so good... an instance where the live version is just better than any possible studio recording... the improv, the crowd, his voice... it's just Gold! My only regret is I never saw this guy live. He's a master.
Such a great performer. Sadly, I've only seen him once. I wish they didn't do so much video post-production in this film. It's totally unnecessary, and distracting. Gabriel has obviously worked hard on delivering a visual spectacle, so just capture it on film. They didn't need to rotate the shots or add strobe, slo-mo, and freeze effects.
Mr.Sound schreibt er ist ein Großer und hat das mit den Videos erfunden Musikvideos meine ich glaube ich weis das jetzt nicht so genau is ja schon viel zeit vergangen !!!
My God ¡¡¡¡ Long live to the represent artists from the 70 and 80 years ¡¡¡¡¡, Come on Peter Gabriel, Genesis, Yes, Jon Anderson, ELP, Jethro Tull, Fishhh, Marillion, etc.etc. THIS IS MUSIC AND REALLY MUSICIANS ¡¡¡¡¡ not the shit that use to hear today . That was awesome. I am old enough to remember when that first came out. That sounded just as good, if not better. Stunning visuals. Thanks for uploading. Puts these new 'stars' to shame.................
Peter is like the finest of fine wines. The older he gets the better he gets.
SLEDGEHAMMER!!!!
He looks like a goat
Clearly one of the best songs of all time hands-down!
It's BETTER THAN "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls!
I love when the audience starts singing the melody in the beginning and then BAM it starts up. Live performances is where it's at... especially when it comes to Peter Gabriel. I can't get enough of this concert. :)
It's the best part. Epic stuff.

As a bass player myself, i have to say Tony is the freaking MAN!!

damn, the bass player is just awesome... I mean the bass line is incrdible!
Tony Levin !!!!!!
Originally recorded on a Chapman Stick, a very weird and wonderful instrument but I see on this video that he is now playing it on a fretless bass...
@@raymcallister1309 he used a fretless Music Man Sabre Cutlass II for Sledgehammer. Cheers.
Always hilarious when someone is so confident and yet completely wrong @@raymcallister1309

I love how the crowd sings along even before it starts.

Tony Levin is the man!
I really like this song!!!
Awesome concert Peter Gabriel!!
Even from his time in Genesis Peter has been an amazing showman! His costumes and ideas are just utterly amazing! It gives his music that slight edge.
Sublime heart attack at 1:21
Priceless outfit
$10 says the guy screaming at 0.09 is drunk off his ass. "Guys, lets get drunk and go to a Peter Gabriel concert!" I dig his style!

SledgeHammer ... Fantastic LIVE execution!!!
Has always been one of my favorite pieces of music.

Fantastic, it only takes two seconds to understand that David Rhodes and Tony Levin are there ;-)
Peter always gets great musicians around

To me, he always sounds like Steve Winwood in this song.
He still looks good. My mom met him
How does that coincide with your birthday?

Only Rachel Z can make a Keytar look that cool
Baldy, fat, older BUT still a great iconic singing voice....Peter Gabriel fantastic!
Like myself, I can relate to the bald, fat and older part, however he can still put on a show.
+TheToshiba86 Yeah Dude....I am sure time will pass you right by!!!

Was the most played video on MTV after all time ...still loved by most ..almost 30 years later ...Way to go Peter ..Manjit/Goa
The best Pop showman always!! Awesome! Must to see him live to understand his power on the scenario.
Great performance marred only by the intrusive camera fuckery
I think it's trying to be "clever" and "arty" but it's just extremely irritating :/
*****
Yeah, I think camera work should show the performance not try to be part of it
Love Peter, love this song, loved this concert. HATE the editing on this though. Stupid effects ruin the watching.
I love it
in this version!!!
So glad this version is still on YT with the great long intro 👏

The crowd singing the horns at the beginning - must be so surreal as an artist to know your song is that universally loved
I absolutely love how the audience sings before the song properly starts.
Simply a amazing spectacle
I remember this tour...it was a amazing as are all his concerts...love you pete!!xxx
Excellent !!! Thank you !

Perfect Song, Perfect Singer, Perfect show....
Yes indeed. Inspirational. Thanks
Damm straight, I could walk around to that intro on a loop all day...
so great music..this one will be on our 80´s party ! for many times
Notice how the musicians lay back and lock in, it all starts at the bottom (drums / bass). That is what makes people dance, move, and bounce.
Fantastic Concert!!! UP for Peter!!!
