I was just watching another channel, and learned that Phil Collins has been a child actor, played the piano, sang, and played the drums since he was 10. Professionally doing this since he was 10.

First concert I ever went to was Genesis on Jan 10th 1984 Tacoma Dome. So fun. Although RUSH is my all time fav.(saw them 9 times) I loved seeing Genesis. Really great band!
Something nobody talks about when it comes to Phil's drumming: If you want to really nail his sound and style, you have to keep your hi-hat foot stomping those 8th notes while your stick is playing at the same time. That aspect of his playing is easily visible in this video. His hi-hat sound was really distinctive because of that.
Early 80s Genesis is fantastic, and gets slept on too often. People who insist Genesis was only good in the Gabriel era irritate me nearly as much as people who insist Rush didn't exist after Moving Pictures.

Much as some classical composers and performers of their day were vastly under appreciated. History has a way of letting the cream rise. We must just enjoy the creative genius and let the critics wallow in their ignorance and self importance. (it is so fun to see the recent reaction videos becoming so popular seeing Phil Collins for the first time....in his later LIVE version of 'In the Air Tonight' they are blown away when he slyly jumps on the drums at the last second. Being coached as a young actor he knows how to use drama. He brought a lot more to Genesis than just great drums and a perfect voice)

And playing guitar 🎸 and 🎹 keyboards with two hands while background singing is no simple feat either. They deserve millions. For these musical contortions, sure.
