I have an EOS RP and plan on adding an R10 to the kit this month. With the luxury of having two cameras, the RP+R10 pairing is a pretty potent combination - very good quality, plenty of advanced features and customization, great weight, and cross-compatibility of lenses. With focal length ranges from 15mm to 600mm (960 effective on the R10) I’ll have a kit for pretty much any and every opportunity that comes my way. And the two cameras are close enough in specs and use many of the same accessories, and have a very similar control layout. I am really excited about things to come.
I was going to be a Sony apologist and suggest thinking about a used A9 since this video really talked about getting used gear at KEH. Full frame, usable 20 fps for sports, great third party lens support, etc. I then looked there, and to get a used A9 in excellent condition, it’s still over $2000. More than double the new R10. I don’t think there’s any stacked sensor camera at the R10 price point, so fast mechanical shutter sounds great.

I was trying to buy 90D but the sales guy got me a demo ex R10 for cheaper, sure the adapter made it about even but everything is better compared to my trusty old 500D (magic lantern ofc) It's arriving tomorrow, finally!
I don't like how people keep saying "beginner" as if this camera can't do pro level photos. Put some nice glass on it and you can get the exact same quality photos as a $4000 camera.

@@diegodominguez205 I can't really comment on the R7s use in portrait, but everyone I talk to said to save up for a full frame. But for wildlife, it's pretty good. I only recently tried my hand at birding...its a lot harder then it looks, especially with a 4lbs lens handheld.
Good video, with great content and advice. Two points though. The number of ad slots for KEH made it almost feel like the entire video was an ad. I understand that ads are a necessary but this felt a bit over the top. Also, if you're going to hold manufacturers to high standards when talking about equivalence, please do so yourself. You mention 600mm f11 being a 900mm but skip over the equivalent aperture. If this were a manufacturer you'd definitely highlight that. A nit-pick I know, but a valid point.

I believe your calculation of f stop taking into account crop factor is wrong. Probably not so bad if trying to give a sense of the resulting depth of field (but even then, that only applies when using wide angles and you have to step back to compensate for the crop, when using teles, the closer the better so you don't step back and DoF remains the same) but totally wrong regarding light gathering capacity. Crop factor doesn't affect the light that reaches the sensor so exposure remains the same between a FF and a crop camera using the same lens.

Well, shooting daylight golf hardly makes the R10 a true sports camera, just because it can shoot 15 fps but cannot get away from a rolling shutter in electronic shutter mode for still photos. For golf, everyone is in a standing position and not a lot of movement, except for the swing, so AF need not be sophisticated. In daylight, it's easy to get by with low ISO and faster shutter speeds. A truer test for the R10 adaptation to sports is go shoot a high school football night game-Friday Night Light! Tony, don't blame the camera for missing the fact you were in high frame rate. Below the H in the upper left corner, note the display of "FHD" (full HD or 1080) and the frame rate of 119.9p. The R5 and R6 show it the same way. I agree, that's not intuitive for a newbie, but you've shot the R5. The real user interface problem is having to dive into the menu to enable high frame rate. It's a pain in all the Canons that I know of. EDIT: that mechanical shutter is really loud. I hear the R7 is, too. But I guess if you're far enough away, the birds won't mind. Much.
I just looked at the manual online trying to find what other frame rates there are between 1 and 15. I couldn't find it, but that's not surprising considering the manual is 900+ pages.
@@slimphotog my original replay had a link to the R5 PDF. You're asking about stills. The R5 and R6 have three burst settings: low speed continuous, high speed continuous, and high speed continuous +. The PDF shows they mean about 3, 6, and 12 FPS respectively in mechanical. Electronic shutter HSC+ gives you 20 FPS. I presume the R7 and R10 settings are similar but with higher FPS in HSC+ mode.

I’m so lost guys! I am looking for a camera/lens that is inexpensive. I am wanting a camera to use for my children’s sporting events like horseback riding, baseball, soccer and dance. I don’t own a camera and this would be my first experience! Id love to play around and potentially make it into a business.
What do you think about speed-boosters for canon r10. I hear the canon has some purple fringing but the 2 viltrox s.boosters seem good? There aren’t any reviews for photo and none comparing the canon to the 2 viltrox. Now canon has good crop bodies but limited crop lenses. So it seems like a possible work around but I’d like to be sure before recommending to friends looking to get into photography. Reviews please? 🙏
What decides shutter speed at low frame rates? I'd like to shoot at 4K and have clear, crisp frames and it would be nice to know how this camera records but this is one spec that manufacturers don't tell us. I guess another option is to utilize the continuous mechanical shutter at 15 FPS and this camera is capable of doing so for a full 30 sec. BUT that would really rack up the shutter count while I'm filming races.
Anyone help. Is there any settings to connect trigger with R10 for impulse lighting ? I tried and its not working. But the trigger works with Testing button. And the trigger is universal…
I literally just found out with the Electronic Shutter, you can bring the shutter all the way up 1/16000th on the R10…that wild!!! Would that ever be necessary!!!😂

Thanks for this video!! I'm looking to get the Canon R10 because of your recommendation for wildlife. I'm retired, and as a hobby have been doing some wildlife photography, but wanted to upgrade . I have a question should I get the Canon RF 600mm F11 IS STM Lens you recommend on this video or get an adapter and get the Sigma 150 to 600 mm? I'm in Canada so I utilize a local company called Henry's. The Canon RF lenses is $899.00 Canadian and the Sigma 150 to 600 mm is $1079.00 plus another $129.00 for adapter (both lenses are on sale here). Yes Canada is more expensive. Any help would be much appreciated.

Little overboard on the KEH push, lol. That said I'm attempting to sell them some gear, waiting for them to review it. So far in emails they've been a little short and rude! Like one sentence answers ending in an explanation point! Maybe it's just Jake! and everybody else is cool! IDK! lol
Your videos are so helpful and I would appreciate your advice! I shoot mostly calm and friendly farm animals at home in dusty, hot Arizona, not flighty wildlife on location, and am about to upgrade from point and shoot and phone cameras. I think I want a hybrid that can make animal video shorts for social media, as well as landscape, some sport and astrophotography prints. Or, do I want a classic DLSR to learn on before upgrading to a mirrorless full frame? Budget is $1500-$3000 (with at least one lens). Open to used cameras. What is your recommendation, please? My head hurts with all the options and reviews. Every time I think I have it narrowed down I watch another of your videos and then doubt myself. Help!!

I recently picked up an M50 to use as a hiking/biking camera and love some of the mirrorless features, but am willing to forego these if the 7Dmkii can keep up with the R series for wildlife. R10. The 6400 has the advantage of slog but R10 shoots 10bit HDR. So I think that evens the playing field. R10 also has 4kfps
is it a good camera to photograph weddings?
Great Review Tony & Chelsea!! At the end, you said you had a Tutorial coming out - where do I find that?
How well does the auto focus track animals that are not people, birds, dogs or cats? I like to wander around our Zoos and take pictures of the various animals. How would it go on an elephant for example?
Using R10 for birds..its absolutely fantastic if you have a good lens
Thank you Chelsea and Tony for this awesome R10 review! God bless you both!
What kind of lens do you recommend for recording high school football games from the stands?
im done with cannon for not having any flash sync port ! Now i cant trigger my old flash units and no im not using a speed light ..
I need a decent and budget camera for pet photography indoor and outdoor (cats) should I get R10 or RP and adding a lens 24-105 F4L ?
Cool, so how does this compare to the Panasonic GX85? I wanted to get that one but I hear the AF is garbage on it..
Nice video, love the format, you sure can sell the product!
Is the R10 + Speed booster a viable replacement for a full frame with the same lens?
Almost, the r10 would still be slightly more cropped
I have a Sony RX10 IV I have been using for a while. (I love it by the way) I shoot mainly landscape and my kids sports photography.. Also wildlife.. So I was wanting to upgrade to a mirrorless camera for more crisp photos.. The RX 10 IV was my first camera i got after a point and shoot.. So I am not a great photographer by any means but love great photos I can frame for our house.. Would you recommend this Canon? or Something else? I love the price point on it.. Seems like a great camera!
How high could you crank up the iso before it looks noisy? At 1250, it clearly looked good. 👀
Hi Tony and many thanks for another great review. I bought the R10 4 months ago as I shoot wildlife. Would you recommend exchanging it for the R6 MKII. Kind regards and many thanks
Hi...Great video as usual. I am thinking about this Camera as my B-CAM, as I already own an R5, for Videos and occasional birding. Would you recommend this Camera?
Does this have a new sensor or is it the 24mp recycled from the 80D and/or the various M cameras?
Question: How does the Canon EOS R10 covert a 600mm lens to a 920MM lens?
Field of view. Crop sensor has a 1.6x crop. A 600mm lens would have a field of view of the 960mm lens on a crop body.
Who was it that sponsored this video? I didn't quite catch it
what cameras are you using to record this aside from the R10?
Help!!
Great Brook Sports and Barn Island! I just got the Canon EOS R10, that came with a 18-45mm STM. What other lenses would you recommend for a beginner?
Watch the video
f18? how does this work with all the math regarding diffraction?? are still images razor sharp with the 600 / 800 f11's??ps I'm after a moon shooter set up! thanks guys x
But can I buy something used from KEH?
I can’t stress this enough, buy a 5d Mark III and look into Magic Lantern.
Best decision of your life
Am looking for an “entry level” wildlife camera. How would you rank the R10, R7, and 7D mkii? Was considering the 7Dmkii as I’ve been using Canon APS-C cameras since the original Digital Rebel, so have a collection of glass with the EF and EF-S mounts. I recently picked up an M50 to use as a hiking/biking camera and love some of the mirrorless features, but am willing to forego these if the 7Dmkii can keep up with the R series for wildlife. Thoughts?
The R10 and R7 re definitely superior to the 7D II. The R7 is a worthwhile upgrade thanks to it's bigger buffer, better EVF and 2 card slots.
Also, just received your SDP book and having trouble getting it back from my wife. Also ordered your Art and Science video series. Maybe I can watch that until Ellen finishes the book.
If i order it on KEH i want to know if they will send me the camera with cap on it?
Generally, yes. If something is missing caps, they note it on the product page.
Hi, what’s the speed booster called? Thanks
How is that Godox trigger working on the r10???? I thought third party triggers wouldn't....
I think the R10 supports standard flashes. Perhaps only the R50 requires the AD-E1 adapter?
@@TonyAndChelsea I am looking to get the R10 so I watched some reviews and I saw one who needed to use the AD-E1 adapter for her Godox trigger to function on her r10. 🤔 This review was really helpful btw made me think to get the RP instead considering I don't really shoot sports and it's full frame.
you dont have to adapt anything....the native ff rf lenses would work just fine
Will this take better photos then the newest iPhone with the lens that comes with the camera?
Yeah a lot better than any smartphone.
I’m about to sell my Sony A7iii and I’m looking at the camera you are using but I understand the battery is pants I do a lot of live music shooing a normaly have to raise the iso to 1250 you’re thoughts, please
Hi have a Canon 90D. But yhe images are always to soft, right from the start that I bought that camera. Do you recomend the R7 to replace the 90D. Thanks in advance.
Is the sigma 18-35 1.8 good on this camera in terms of auto focus for photography?
Yes
Prove it
@@unbroken1010 search up on TH-cam, tons of people love the lens on R7&R10
Watched your videos for yrs now but when you do advert videos like this one makes me think if all the other videos are just sales pitch .
Hi,
I shoot sports in a 6d mark 2 I'm new to photography. I want something a little faster what do you recommend ? Thanks
Is this sponsored by KEH? I musta missed that.
Brilliant video 📹
R10 amazing camera 📷
I want it for its focus portrait etc.
In my mind I want to spend 500 for a good entry level camera.
But in reality it is a 1000 £€$ camera.
Excellent
Don’t waist your money. Beginners should buy a used Canon Rebel or a Canon 70D. And, then buy Tony’s book.
I use an Ef 100 f2.8l for product photography. Should I go for the rp or r7 . Thanks
Targeted for sport. And what about a really new sensor tech able to compete with Sony, fuji? What about DR Noise IQ? 🤕 (desperate user until eos 550D)
Quantum leap pleaze!
Canon does not have the best sensor performance for now. But its autofocus made it extremely capable. If you are coming from 550D, you might as well jump to R7
There's no significant difference in image quality compared to other sensors of a similar size.
@@zegzbrutal I now use a 800D, far better autofocus, specs... but iso and DR performance have not improved a lot. I think an apsc canon user has to look FF to get a real IQ improvement. That said I enjoy and keep my equipement, cheap, light, good enough for me🙂
@@TonyAndChelsea An answer from TCN😇, thanks for your work, your unique way to select subjects and share your toughts, questions...
Regarding R10 I suppose dpreview and dxo? will give us measurements. Good news, R3 sensor is a real new technology
is that Viltrox adapter comparable to the original Canon? it's way cheaper...
Sorry I haven't compared them.
Can you do a review of the Lucky quick release strap?
Tony how many frames per second for pictures does the M50 do?
how to report this video for too much advertising?
the fu are you talking about? The RF 50mm 1.8 STM and the RF 85mm f2 makes for an ideal portrait focal length
Surely the R7 is better with more megapixels?
More mp don't mean 💩 if you have zero reason for them. You whine like a Fred Flintstone feet woman that supported mandates and now wants my body my rights😝
At least with the kit lens you don't see a difference.
Of course it is, but its $500 more. They clearly said the R10 is a great camera at $1000.
More Mpixels doesn't mean far better IQ, look for reviews with measurements.
@@Lesterandsons In this case, yes it does. In terms of specs they are either exactly the same or the R7 is just better. The only advantage R10 has is price.
Hate to see Canon skimping out on the rear dial (yes that's what I focus on - feel has as much importance to me as tech)
