    I have a Canon R10 and a Fujifilm X-T30 II. The Canon is simply fantastic. It came with the 18-55 and 55-210 kit lenses. I also have a Viltrox adapter and use just fine an EF-S 24mm and EF 50mm which are very cheap but good lenses. I bought the Fuji because I wanted to try the film simulations. I just need to use my R10 more. It's a great camera.

    The detailed autofocus priority switching stuff around 15:50 seem super useful to me. I purchased this camera because I take a lot of photos of cars at racetracks and at meetups, often times with vehicles in motion and often times at great speeds. So to see a specific setting that will change subject tracking as they enter the AF zone I’m working with seems fantastic to help me catch groups of cars all packed together running the same corner at high speed. A problem I struggle greatly with my Rebel SL2(first camera I ever bought). The R10 with a significantly higher fps rating, much bigger buffer, much higher write speeds, and packed full of what seems to be high performance AF features only makes me more and more excited to get this delivery in to try out the R10.

    So "Subject tracking" really only applies when AF Area is set to a point or zone, not Whole Area autofocus. The part where your AF continued to track the bird's eye at 13:15 was because Subject Tracking was turned on. Once you find your subject, it will continue to track and focus on your subject, even when the bird leaves the AF zone.
    If "Subject tracking" was off, it would stop focusing on the bird as soon as it left the area, and your camera wouldn't focus until a new bird would enter your AF zone. I use this all the time for sports photography to keep my focus on whoever was in my center zone, ignoring the people on the edges.

      poor lens choice is another dealbreaker. absolutely zero satisfaction from using that camera.
      too heavy for EDC, too small for comfotable work

    Great detailed review of photo and video performance. The R10 would be a huge upgrade to my EF-M cameras. They also have a cheap plastic feel, but work well for me. I just wish I could use my EF-M lenses on the RF mount. The only adapter is for EF to RF lenses. All of my EF-M lenses are wider and faster, 15mm at F3.5, like the Nikon. This and the price of the fast RF lenses makes me delay upgrading to the R7 and R10. Considering switching to Nikon.

    Hi Miklos, great informative video as always thanks 👍
    I'm choosing between the Z50 or R10; I prefer the R10s AF but prefer the Z50s lens choices;
    How does the Z50 AF compare to the R10, is it any good for moving subjects? I've heard bad things about it.
    Also what do you think of the affordable Canon RF primes, are they decent?
    Many thanks!

      And what about the AF between the two? The R10 clearly has excellent AF, but does the Z50 for AF-C & subject/eye tracking, or is it fairly poor in this department in the real world?
      Many thanks!

    Canon needs more RFS prime for everyone's need as well as semi-professional tele-photo like Efs55-250. They need high end overall zoom RFS lens with constant aperture. But at first they need to change the R10 kit lens. It is blind in low light. I own a R10 with a kit lens.

    As an overall system... Which do you like more, Nikon or Canon?
    Im still undecided. I still have the Z50 and a pair of Canon DSLRs (77D and XS). I'm thinking about go all in Canon R mount with EF adapted lenses or Nikon Z mount with native lenses + AFS F mount lenses + EF lenses via adapters.

    • @miklosmayerphoto
      @miklosmayerphoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a dilemma there, and I can completely relate to it :)
      What I like in the Nikon Z System is that they opened up the lens mount and you can buy very good third-party prime lenses, like Sigma 16mm F/1.4.
      I also like how Nikon put out cheap but quality zooms like 28-75 and 70-180mm.
      However, I have no idea when Nikon will replace the Z50 - it's still a great camera, but already 4 years old.

  • @PWingert1966
    @PWingert1966 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The R10 would be a great camera as an upgrade to my SL1. But Canon's silencing the market for third-party lenses (To the point of bricking TP lenses with autofocus. Canon has finally started opening up on a very limited basis) has made me hold off and keep with my SL1 and the three or four third-party lenses I have. I am now waiting for the R10 Mk II sometime this century and will re-evaluate the new camera when it hits the market.

    Hello Master:
    Please help and give me some advice,
    The camera I am currently using is Canon EOS R10,
    The kit lens used with it is (RF-S18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM)
    My main subject matter is toy photography.
    The secondary shooting content is street photography or portrait photos.
    Now I want to buy new lenses, after watching your video,
    Want to compare between Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM and RF85mm F2 Macro IS STM
    After making a choice, I would like to ask you to give me some advice on which lens is more suitable for me? Thank you.🙏

      @miklosmayerphoto  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey there, I would definitely buy a macro lens. I don't know how small the toys are, but they are very small, maybe even the 85 mm f/2 won't be enough, cause it can only have 1:2 magnification. However, it's a great lens and I highly recommend it for any kind of work.

    I wanted to express my sincere gratitude for your in-depth review of the Canon R10. Your insights have been incredibly valuable.
    I was particularly intrigued by the photo of the runner at f/2. Could you kindly share the lens you used for that specific shot? The sharpness and focus quality at f/2 caught my eye.

    • @miklosmayerphoto
      @miklosmayerphoto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you so much for the feedback!
      The runner shot: I used an old Canon EF 50 mm F/1.4 lens, which I adapterd to the R10 by using the EF-RF adapter.
      So actually that's not a particularly good lens due to its old design (it's soft at F/1.4, useable at f/2, and sharp from F/2.8)

  • @aviv32
    @aviv32 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    im a bit confused i hope you can explain to me.
    aps-c got a crop factor on canon cameras of 1.6
    but i heard that when you get the canon r10 4k 60 fps. there is a crop factor .
    is when i use the 4k 24fps has zero crop factor, or the 4k 60fps has an additional crop factor to the basic 1.6?

    • @miklosmayerphoto
      @miklosmayerphoto  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey there, the crop factor in 4k 60fps applies on top of the crop factor of the sensor. The 4k/60 uses only 64% of the horizontal area, so the overall crop factor will be: 1.6 (from the sensor) x 1.54 (from 4k60) = 2,5
      So with the 18mm kit lens, the field of view will be equivalent of 45 mm lens on a full frame camera - if you use the R10 in 4k/60 fps mode.

    • @RogerZoul
      @RogerZoul 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you are an r10 owner, then you come here to learn how to get more from your r10, not to hear about the choices Canon, or whomever, made to bring you that camera at the price you want to pay. So, from that point of view, the person watching doesn’t need to hear you gush about the weaknesses of said camera. Just guide them on how to get the most from it. You really don’t need to talk about how cheap the camera feels or how it sounds like a toy. That would make me want to go elsewhere. Are you a reviewer or a guide? I definitely saw something that read “let me guide you….”. Guide me, don’t bash my camera because I really couldn’t afford the high end model. See? Hope this helps. People really need
      channels like yours because these cameras can do a lot, but you still get what you pay for. Camera makes have to make compromises. No point in dinging them about it, but there is a point, and an opportunity, to guide users in getting the most out of them.

      OSINT investigators are "armchair internet sleuths", usually unpaid regular folk, who were very instrumental, by using OSINT research methods, using "social media" and other "open sources" to discover the identities of the "Jan 6 insurrectionists",
      who stormed and damaged the U.S. Capitol, and turned over the found identities (hundreds of them) to the FBI for arrest and prosecution.

    Is there any option to turn off the exposure simulation?

      @miklosmayerphoto  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, of course, in the photography menu, Display Simulation.

    Isnt that lens an RF-S lens, so you dont apply the crop factor? In which case, it does hit 24mm equivalent...

    • @miklosmayerphoto
      @miklosmayerphoto  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You always have to apply the crop factor to the physical focal length (18 mm).
      The only reason for this is to be able to compare the field of view of different lenses. Hence this 18mm lens is like a 29 mm lens on a full frame camera, in terms of field of view.

    The R50 I have to go into menu and select the electronic Extender which I have trouble dealing with. R10 seems better

    • @miklosmayerphoto

      What do you mean by electronic Extender?

    • @TheTokyomatt
      @TheTokyomatt 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@miklosmayerphoto On the R50 you can increase the zoon lens electronically 0x 2x and 4x. I was hoping that the R10 would have had that as well.

    My pinky hurts when using this camera. Is there any way to add somthing for my pinky to rest on?

    • @miklosmayerphoto
      @miklosmayerphoto  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just google "Canon R10 L bracket", and most dedicated L bracket have an extended part where your pinky can rest.

      I love the Z50, but it's 3 years older than the Canon R10, this mostly shows in the speed and the AF performance. However, the Z50 has more options when it comes to lenses.
      The Z5 is full-frame, so that's a different world :)

    Actually the R10 sounds like a wooden blind shutter and the Nikon sounds like a plastic blind shutter (cheap).

    I think there aren't any 'entry level cameras'. But, there are 'entry level photographers'. It's in one's eyes and the mind's eye. Not the tool.

    Well ,you we re wrong when saying that the lens becomes a 29 mm from a 18mm...If it was a RF lens ,it would have been true, but this lens is RF-S specifically made for crop sensors like the ones of the R10 ,R7 ,R50 and R100 .

    • @miklosmayerphoto
      @miklosmayerphoto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It is a 18 mm lens, which has a field of view equivalent of a 29 mm lens on a full-frame camera. So the actual, physical focal length is 18 mm, but it gives a view as a 29mm lens on a full-frame camera.
      So it's not wider, but actually tighter than most of other manufacturers have (Nikon has a 16-50mm kit lens for the Z50, which would gives a field of view of a 24-75 mm lens on a full-frame)

    R10 is what M50 owners were hoping M50 MK ii was going to be. My M50 became useless after it fell from the couch on the carpet. The plasticky Canon cameras are flimsy and not very durable.

    Canon bs not putting raw video recording in the camera

    • @miklosmayerphoto
      @miklosmayerphoto  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because raw video is patented by RED (now acquired by Nikon). Also, this is an entry-level camera
