    My exact set-up for wildlife photography. A great combination at a reasonable cost.

    Thank you for this! I purchased one today after seeing this video. It should be a great lens to go with my R10 so I can start some amateur wildlife photography.

    Super helpful video, Fabian. I’ve been thinking about buying this combo but I wouldn’t find any videos on this specifically. Thank you. Cheers

    I bought this combo 6 months ago as my first wildlife/bird equipment and cannot be more satisfied with the results, given how much it has costed.
    I easily carry it on 10km birding sessions, and even carried it on a couple of 25km ones!
    About all technical characteristics, advantages and downsides, I can only agree with Fabian and confirm literally all what he said in the video.

    I have this combo which supplements my R5 with 100-500. I use the R10 when traveling mainly in Spain. I love the portability of the smaller kit and it performs much like the R5 in many ways. I do notice I have to do more post processing manipulation to achieve what I want but it is certainly worth it.

    ❤ Thank you for showing me the way! Great!! DxO PureRAW 3 is fantastic! Now aperture f8.0 on a Canon RF 100-400mm lens is not a big problem. I have a Canon R10 body and was choosing between Canon RF 100-400mm, Sigma 100-400mm, Tamron 100-400mm and Tamron 18-400mm. I think that a native lens is the best solution for various reasons: 1) better compatibility with the camera 2) dimensions, weight, no adapter needed 3) the motor is fast, quiet and accurate 4) no focus breathing 5) and lastly: information from your great video

  • @seahpengwui873

    Tamron also can make same 100-400mm even lighter for Nikon, Sony and other brands camera.

      Really? The 100-400 I know from Tamron is much heavier. How exactly is it called?

    Thank you for making this great video. I have the same setup but I'm considering to upgrade to the R7, and offcourse I would also like to try the 1.4x and knowing that I may be disappointed. Would the 1.4x perform better with the R7?

    • @FabianFoppNaturephotography
      @FabianFoppNaturephotography  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks! Hmm, I personally would not buy the 1.4x with any aps-c camera and the RF100-400. rather save the money to buy the RF100-500 L at some point

    • @wellingtoncrescent2480
      @wellingtoncrescent2480 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I use my R7 with the RF100-500, mostly for birds, and I am extremely happy with this setup. I also struggled over the choice between adding the 1.4x TC vs the 800mm F11 prime, which are very similar in reach (700 vs 800 mm) and maximum aperture (F10 vs F11). I had the opportunity to compare and was pleasantly surprised by the IQ and AF performance with the TC, though this may be a function of the R7 sensor (32MP) and optical quality in the RF100-500 ie the same may not be true with the R10/RF100-400.

    Hi Fabian, I bought r10 last year I was searching for wildlife lense. Thank you for you video. It's great. Can you suggest 1.4x or 2x converter. What effect will it do to image. 1.4x will give 560 on this lense. What do you think? Love from India❤

    • @FabianFoppNaturephotography

  • @user-abcsedghi
    @user-abcsedghi 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I have a RF100-400mm and R6, so I wonder if it worths to buy a R10 to get a longer focal length. Have you tested the AF tracing smaller flying birds? Thank you!

    • @FabianFoppNaturephotography
      @FabianFoppNaturephotography  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you need to crop a lot, then it could be an option. But the AF of the R6 and R5 is generally more consistent than the R10. Maybe save for a 100-500 to pair with your R6? 😊

    • @FabianFoppNaturephotography

      @@FabianFoppNaturephotography but how do you move it in the r50 without a joystick

  • @ajc1482
    @ajc1482 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I'd be wary of the FPS numbers Canon are throwing around, they claimed the R7 could shoot 30fps but at those speeds the AF algorithm struggles to keep up and you lose a lot of images.
    The best you can get is 15 fps and even then I had issues.
    I'd also mention the fact that the R10 and RF 100-400 isn't weather sealed.

    • @FabianFoppNaturephotography
      @FabianFoppNaturephotography  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, unfortunately this holds true for many other cameras of the „lower“ segment where the AF can be limiting.
      You are right about the weather sealing, but I don’t know many beginner bird photographers that care too much about that

    • @FabianFoppNaturephotography

  • @jaapkamstra9343

    I left Canon because the totally neglect the aps-c lenses. They only have kit lenses for aps-c and fullframe lenses are overpriced. For wildlife I went fuji.

    Those photos are a clear example of why you should date your body cameras and marry your lenses... Man, they can't look that professional, I just bought R10 as my 1st camera for 700$ and wasn't hoping that much, to be honest....

    • @FabianFoppNaturephotography
      @FabianFoppNaturephotography  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That’s pretty basic stuff and doesn’t really fit for a review, wouldn’t you agree? This is even in the manual if the camera

    • @alex_nita
      @alex_nita 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@FabianFoppNaturephotography everything is in the manual of the camera. For someone switching from DSRL to mirrorless - the lack of a button to switch from the EVF to LCD - its a pain. And also, the sensor that is detecting if smth is close to the evf is also working on its own rules when the camera is strapped to "side" (like a mail bag). Real world points - no a word about that in these videos. But videos based on the manual - plenty.

    • @FabianFoppNaturephotography
      @FabianFoppNaturephotography  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I never had an issue with that. No Canon R camera has such a button. You can change in the menu how the viewfinder/screen should change

    • @maczek70pl
      @maczek70pl 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can assign this function to flash button or some other button its not very difficult to rearrange buttons , it is very easy once you learn how to do it , and its not that painfull to read instructions ;)
