A few things: 1) The goal in rugby is to outscore the opposing team through penalty kicks that have to go over the rugby goalposts (the H-shaped poles at either end of the field), and these are worth 3 points. You can also score tries, worth 5 points, by touching the ball down into the goal area (which is indeed very similar to the end zone in American Football. The reason teams try and get as close to the goalposts as they can with tries, is because after a try is scored, you can get a converted kick which must go over the goalposts, just like the penalty kicks, and your angle is better if you score the try right under the posts. A coverted kick is worth 2 points. 2) You were referring to two separate people when you called them similar to Lebron James: Cheslin Kolbe and Kurt-Lee Arendse. They are two of the best wingers in the world, and it is their sole goal in life to score as many tries as they can. They need to be incredibly fast, agile and skillful to do this. Cheslin Kolbe is slightly shorter and stockier than Kurt-Lee Arendse, but they're often mistaken for each other because they both wear scrum caps (those little hat things, which don't protect the head from knocks, but are actually used for protecting the ears from being ripped off, because rugby is a full-contact game that has some nasty injuries). 3) South Africa (or the Springboks) are the current world champions, and are also the most successful team in the history of the world cup (and the second-most successful overall), as we have won 4 out of the 8 we've taken part in, and we've never lost a final. The second-best at world cups is New Zealand (and they are the most successful team outside of world cups). The world cup takes place every 4 years. South Africa have replicated a feat that New Zealand accomplished with the 2011 and 2015 world cups, and gone back-to-back for only the second time in history by winning the 2019 and 2023 world cups. The 2023 world cup was held in France last year, and it was FUCKING AMAZING. Do yourself a favour and react to the extended highlights of South Africa vs France and New Zealand vs Ireland in the 2023 world cup, those are two of the best quarter-finals in rugby history. 4) I recommend a channel called Squidge Rugby if you want to get into detailed analyses of rugby games, and I recommend a video called Rugby Explained for American Football Fans if you want something a bit more beginner-friendly. 5) Welcome! We are a very passionate fan-base, and the only thing you really need to know is that everyone hates England in rugby. 😆

The guy with the "helmets" (scrum caps), the one you likened to Lebron, are actually two differ players. Both equally agile and nimble, breaking ankles as they score tries. Cheslin Kolbe and Kurtley Arendse. It's awesome having them play on the same team.

Some people get comfused. At 13:00, the team in the white jerseys are the South African Springboks. We play in white jerseys when the team we are playing against have green jerseys on, or a color that is similar to our green, then we change to white jerseys to avoid confusion.
🇿🇦🇿🇦 Cheslin Kolbe is the Le Bron of the world not just his team, definitely check out video called Cheslin Kolbe, the ultimate athlete, guaranteed you would wish he played NFL 🇿🇦🇿🇦
Not just because other team wears green, only when it’s an away game and other team wears green will we wear white, if it’s a home game we would keep wearing the green and the other team would wear their away colours
In Rugby, the number on the jersey indicates a position, rather than a person. South Africa has two brilliant young Wings ( #11 and #14 jerseys). Kurt-lee Arendse and Cheslin Kolbe. They play on either end of the field, depending on the specific team. They also look a lot alike from afar, as they both wear scrumcaps when they play. The numbers work as follows 1-3 front row, 4&5 Locks, 6-8 are loose forwards. 9 to 15 is the back line. The wingers are as mentioned, 11 and 14. The closest analogy to American Football, the wingers would be Running Backs.
The reason why they go through the goal post is just for the positioning of the ball, so that it’s easier to to get it trough the goal posts when they kick it to score. And yes, you Have to touch the ball on the ground for you to score a try/touch down, once you’ve past the line. Go springboks, with love from your neighboring county Botswana 🇧🇼.
If you guys want to understand what rugby means to South Africa check out the interview with, 2007 world champion captain, John Smit. The Springbok legend was interviewed by Big Jim just before South Africa played in the 2023 world cup final. The title of the video is: South Africa vs New Zealand - John Smit breaks down the Rugby World Cup FINAL on the RugbyPass channel
Those are rugby posts or poles. You can score a try (American equivalent to a touch down), anywhere behind the try line (American equivalent to end zone). If you are able to, it's better to score as close to those poles as possible, which will make the conversion (will explain in a minute) a bit easier. After scoring a try, which is worth 5 points, you then have a chance to kick for the poles, which is called a conversion, as mentioned above, and this is worth 2 points, which will bring your score up to 7 points. If you score the try closer to, or even under, the poles, then when you take your conversion, you are able to kick over the poles directly in line with the poles.. If you score on the far end, left or right, then the conversion will be taken at the far left or right of the field, if that makes any sense. So, basically depending on where you score the try behind the try line, will determine where you place the ball for the conversion. You also kick for poles if you are rewarded a penalty, which is 3 points. And at any point during the game, you can go for a drop goal, which is when you drop the ball in front of you, and once it bounces off the ground, you kick it over the poles. This is worth 3 points. Hope this helps. Maybe someone else in the comments section could explain better. 😂
TL:DR where you touch the ball down behind the tryline (end zone) is where you take the kick at the uprights to convert your try (touchdown) for extra points But this posted above gave a decent description of why ppl try and get closer to the poles when they score a try (touchdown)
Well explained. The drop goal is when a player drops the ball ( a deliberate action) in front of him and kicks the ball at the same time that the ball hits rhe ground, or a split second after the ball hits he ground.
First name that came to (my) mind when you asked "who is the LeBron James of rugby", was Cheslin Kolbe. South Africa won the last 2 world cups, and without Kolbe, we would not have won it. He just have the knack to pop up at the perfect moment to do something impossible. BUT, rugby is team sport. Many other players like Ox Nche, Eben Etzebeth, Handre Pollard, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Siya Kolisi, Kwagga Smith (my favorite player), etc. were also invaluable for the team. Put those players with Rassie Erasmus (the best international rugby coach by far), and you have that winning combo. Anyway, this video just consist of some highlights. What it doesn't show is the real reason the boks are so dominating. First of all, PHYSICAL DOMINATION. The Springboks have the BEST DEFENSE in world rugby. Every tackle is done as hard and as technically correct as possible. Every contact situation is executed in a way that the other team WILL feel it in their bones. Reason no2...TACTICS. In rugby you cannot win a game unless your forwards are dominating. During the 2019 World Cup, the coach shocked the world by using the replacements as impact players instead of injury replacements. In the 2023 World Cup he took it a step further by replacing basically the whole pack of forwards at half time, to have fresh legs on the field that can totally crush the opposition in the second half. And they did exactly that. And mark my words, we will take the next world cup too. I suggest watching this video: So how did the Springboks win the World Cup? | A Squidge Rugby Deep Dive: th-cam.com/video/DDrUMVI7oQM/w-d-xo.html So now you've watched lots of tackles and big hits. The dude in the light coloured scrumcap is Kurt-Lee Arendse, and the one in the dark scrumcap is Cheslin Kolbe. They are both short guys, but with tremendous speed and agility. Unfortunately, American Football derived from this game, but cannot compare. The only protection these guys have is Gumguards, and occasionally a box and scrumcap. It is brute strength and determination. A true game of skill.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The sport of rugby is very captivating, you should watch it live because the atmosphere is eclectic. Also, the Rugby World Cup is coming to the USA for the first time ever in 2031, which will bring more exposure and fans to the sport in the States. The Springbok brand should grow in the US if the contract with Ackerley Sports Group is approved, I am very excited about that. I want more Springboks supporters and rugby fans in general to come to the World Cup in 2031.
The guy sho scored at 10:48, his is Kurt Lee Arendse. People often get him and Cheslin Kolbe mixed up. Kurt Lee Arendse was the one at 2:36, where there is a slow mo of him diving over the try line.
🇿🇦 So to score a tri you have to touch the ball on the ground behind the line the posts is on, anywhere behind the line works but after the “touchdown” you get to kick in between those poles from the same angle where you touched the ball to the ground. So if you got the touch right on the side of the field that’s the angle where you have to kick from, if you touched it between those posts you get to kick a perfect straight kick from right in front of them making it much easier to kick over between the post for an extra 2 points. If you miss the kick you only get the 5 points for your tri or “touchdown” 🇿🇦
Rugby is super exciting. The USA team is damn fast on the field, I expect great things from them in the future. Try watching the sevens format. Really exciting. Thanks, from South Africa.
Those are just padding around the poles to prevent injury when someone gets tackled near them... The reason people score under them is cause wherever you score, you can have attempt at goal, but your kicker can only kick in a vertical line from where the ball was placed down, thus making the kick easier if you touch under the poles rather than in the corner
You have a tryline where you can score points also called trys. The poles is just important for penalty or conversion kicks. There is a video on youtube about the rules of rugby.
You a gal??? Seriously every South African woman of every race is a rugby fanatic...we love the game,we adore the Springboks,Rugby is my FAVOURITE SPORT,I have been a die hard rugby gal fan l since I was about 3 years old...
USA is hosting the next world cup , you will get to watch the mighty springbok live , but one thing for sure we taking the world cup back to South Africa
As a Massive springbok fan. With regards to your concerns on no pads or helmets. Tackling in Rugby union and NFL are different. Rugby gets a lot of cuts and bruises. Rarely broken bones or Concussions. So a lot of pain involved. However, NFL players does seem to take riskier tackles. Due to the false sense of security the helmets and pads bring. So they go harder more often and get very avoidable life/ career ending hits. Rugby does take place for 80 min over 2Hr. Where I've seen players get swapped on Defence/Offence so often on NFL. and the 48 min game lasts 3 hours.. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Rugby is a very fast paced game. There are no downs or quarters like in American Football. There are two, 40 minute halves, with a 10 minute break between halves. You know like in American Football, you get that last minute scramble at the end of a game, where everyone is fighting to score that touchdown? I'm not sure what it's called, but imagine the entire game being like that.....that's rugby. No pads, or gear. Only protection is a gum guard. Some people wear scrum caps, which is NOT a helmet and it doesn't protect you from concussions. It only protects against minor lacerations and to prevent you from getting cauliflour ears. The play also doesn't stop if you are tackled. It keeps goingthe person who gets tackled, has to immediately release the ball, that's why you will see them stretch it their arms, trying to give the ball to their teammates. Once their teammate had the ball, the play continues. If someone gets injured, the okay continues, unless there was some sort of infringement, or if the player is badly injured. But most of the time the player who is down, gets right back up and continues playing, or if they stay down, medics will run onto the field and check on them while the game goes on. A lot of reactors find that weird because in American Football, the play stops the moment someone is tacked or of someone is injured.
Scoring closer to the "poles" gives the kicker a better position where he has to kick from. So, when they do that, the kicker doesn't have to curve the ball that much.
In rugby we have to put the ball over the line to score the try and it's not one point it five and the pols are for to pick over and if you make it over you get two point added
The Springboks are loved by All South Africans no matter the colour of your skin, sex or age. every Friday we have Bok Friday where everybody including school kids wear their Springbok jerseys. for context on the size of the Springboks Watch the Dricuss Duplessis vs Izzy UFC match the two guys that walk in with DDP that make him look like a small Guy are Springboks
They just won the World Cup, not the championship, they're an international team (South Africa) not a franchise/club team, but when they're not with the national team they play for franchises/clubs all over the world, but most of the current squad plays for South African teams (they play in the URC, a inter-continental competition with teams from SA, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Italy, they used to play in Super Rugby, a comp who had teams from SA, New Zealand, Australia, Argentina and Japan). The World Cup is every 4 years and they've won 4 of them (1995, 2007, 2019, 2023). ps. USA is actually hosting the 2031 World Cup, and they even have their own pro league called the MLR.
This is safer than American football by the way they all can still count to ten when they reach 40 years old. There's a way of tackling that insures that there are no head injuries... and there are illegal or dangerous tackles
I think your daughter generally is not interested in athletes and sports. Learn the rules and you will love it. Learn what a ruck is and scrum. Also the reason the guys get closer to the poles is that after each score (try) the kicker kicks for those poles from where the scorer put the ball on the ground. If the scorer puts it down closer to the poles. It makes it easier for the kicker to kick. Each touch down is followed by a kick for extra points.
The guy who jumps and score it’s two different people look closer and you need to here they are calling there names Willie arendse and Chelonia colbe when they score a try they all two have scrumpets (helmet) go search them on they are different .
Start watching... the Rugby World Cup will be held in USA in 2031 .... so USA will be competing against all these teams... so in preparation, the USA will have more matches against teams like this

Most feared??? You have obviously never heard of the New Zealand All Blacks, who have a 60:40 win rate over all their matches against the Springboks over the last 120 years. In the last world cup final, both teams were contesting being the first to win four world cup finals. The Springboks won by one point, even though the AB's played most of the game with only 14 men. Check out the mighty NZ All Blacks if you want to see the most successful team in sports history (any sport) with a win rate of 77% over 120+ years.

I suggest watching this video:

You are most welcome to join the Rugby Community! Its a whole different world of awesome.
There are actually two smaller fast guys on the video. Kurt Lee Arendse and Cheslin Kolbe. Both as fast as lightings.
Yes, please watch, we as fans would love it, also please check out the Rugby Rules, and then the individual players as well.
Keep on watching. Check out Cheslin Kobe the best player in the world. He is one of the stars in the Springbok team.
The guy sho scored at 10:48, his is Kurt Lee Arendse. People often get him and Cheslin Kolbe mixed up.
Kurt Lee Arendse was the one at 2:36, where there is a slow mo of him diving over the try line.
yeah so basically what she wana tell you theres two nr 14s cheslin and kurt both short but cheslin shorter with more broader shoulders
Also Calum Moodie
Crossing the line and dotting the ball closer to the poles give the kicker a better chance for the extra 2 point. A try is 5 points.
My country...my Boks ❤
Great reaction guys! Do more of these videos. Ireland , France and New Zealand also good teams to watch.
remember his name...Cheslin Kolbe
Rugby is super exciting. The USA team is damn fast on the field, I expect great things from them in the future. Try watching the sevens format. Really exciting. Thanks, from South Africa.
Those are just padding around the poles to prevent injury when someone gets tackled near them... The reason people score under them is cause wherever you score, you can have attempt at goal, but your kicker can only kick in a vertical line from where the ball was placed down, thus making the kick easier if you touch under the poles rather than in the corner
IT'S NOT ONE GUY .... IT'S ACTUALLY TWO GUYS
Cheslin Kolbe and Kurt Lee Arendse
We won the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. Where all the world's national teams compete. So . . . . . . . .THE 4 Times WORLD CHAMPIONS ARE HERE.
South Africa 🇿🇦 ❤
You have a tryline where you can score points also called trys. The poles is just important for penalty or conversion kicks. There is a video on youtube about the rules of rugby.
You a gal??? Seriously every South African woman of every race is a rugby fanatic...we love the game,we adore the Springboks,Rugby is my FAVOURITE SPORT,I have been a die hard rugby gal fan l since I was about 3 years old...
USA is hosting the next world cup , you will get to watch the mighty springbok live , but one thing for sure we taking the world cup back to South Africa
That's for sure, even more so since Rassie will be involved once again!
The guys you saw scoring all the time with the scrum caps, (headgear) are 2 different guys. Kurt lee Arendse and Cheslin Kolbe
Actually studies have shown Rugby to be more dangerous with more fractures and more concussions.
The guys Who wear caps are Canon Moodie and cheslin Kolbe those are the fastest Springbok players 🇿🇦🏆🏆🏆🏆
Actually, the two that wear caps are Cheslin Kolbe and Kurt-lee Arendse, not Canan Moodie. Though he did catch the one in the air.
The Springboks are A TEAM...every single one plays a role...and they do it well, that's why we 4 tyms Rugby World Cup Champs
Much faster pace than football
No padding
Biger ball
A lot of skill especially with passing the ball
Cheslin Kolbe is the one that who black hat
As Joel Stransky stated in his commentary, it is like being in a car crash whenever one plays rugby.
In rugby we have to put the ball over the line to score the try and it's not one point it five and the pols are for to pick over and if you make it over you get two point added
Watching it live is the best 🙏🏽🙏🏽👌🏼
The girl is scared of the aggression 😂😂
I see my country I subscribe I'm a simple guy
The best part of rugby is to watch it live. The highlights does not give any context.
Yes!!! We are just build different as South Africans. No pads like American Football...lol, we are 4x world cup champions.
You kick in a straight line from where you put the ball down to score, so closer to the poles equals an easier kick
The World Cup is every 4 years and they've won 4 of them (1995, 2007, 2019, 2023).
ps. USA is actually hosting the 2031 World Cup, and they even have their own pro league called the MLR.
if you like Kolbe react to Cheslin Kolbe the ultimate athlete dude is fire
The Springboks is not in South Africa but it is the South Africa rugby national team. Springboks is the nickname.
the ball chaser cant be infront of the guy who kick the ball
You react to anything 🇿🇦I subscribe period ❤
Cheslin kolbe the goat
This is safer than American football by the way they all can still count to ten when they reach 40 years old. There's a way of tackling that insures that there are no head injuries... and there are illegal or dangerous tackles
You should definitely check out South African high school rugby
Depending on where you score is were the convention Kik get to Kik from
check out cheslin kolbe (the LBJ of rugby) and Manie Libbok
Canadian sport channels would have Live Rugby we have 3 games left for the season.
You'll love rugby. Tough games.
Same thing. But under the poles is the best.
There is 2 of them Cheslin Kolbe and Aarendse
I think your daughter generally is not interested in athletes and sports. Learn the rules and you will love it. Learn what a ruck is and scrum. Also the reason the guys get closer to the poles is that after each score (try) the kicker kicks for those poles from where the scorer put the ball on the ground. If the scorer puts it down closer to the poles. It makes it easier for the kicker to kick. Each touch down is followed by a kick for extra points.
There's no Lebron in the Springboks, everyone that plays in that team is incredible.
The poles is when you try and then you have to kick the ball between the poles
The guy who jumps and score it’s two different people look closer and you need to here they are calling there names Willie arendse and Chelonia colbe when they score a try they all two have scrumpets (helmet) go search them on they are different .
Omg you cant pass ball forward 🔥 but you can kick forward

we just won the rugby cup.. and yeah these are all 7foot giants, no gear,
He's the la bron of the world
Why do the majority of people reacting call them the Springbooks? It's SpringBOKS.
And won the w cup go back to back won in 1995 2007 2019 and 2023
