Wow! I've been struggling with this. I totally appreciate what you just showed me. By the way, your style of teaching is just like a one-on-one from a wise (and humble) mentor.

I'd like to see an analogous treatment for object options--say, for example, alternate roofs.
In this video I had an aha moment in understanding how elements work in the check list when saving a scene. Thank you, Aaron.

Thanks, Aaron; I knew those features, and it had never occurred to me to use them in that way. My interest is woodworking, and whether furniture design or some mechanical apparatus, the knowledge will be helpful.
Also, now I'm eagerly awaiting the video of Bonnie's presentation, which I was going to skip, expecting that it would not be helpful to me. Wow!

Good Stuff, Aaron. I did not know one could create a new Layer using the Entity Info dialogue box.

    Feature suggestion.
You should be able to save a scene and have the option to hide any future geometry. Eg: while I am modelling I would like to add a scene of a component with all other geometry hidden and continue modelling.

I did lear something in from this video, but I wold relish in one that takes a mechanical unit of several parts and creates scenes/layers/options so I can send to layout and really define a mechanical unit and its various parts for layout specifications.

Great technique for switching between options, Aaron. Thanks! I tried it with "Include in animation" checked, hoping for a fade-style transition between materials, but it appears that materials switch instantaneously, even when the Camera Location option is checked and the camera is re-positioned before updating scenes. Another tool in my SketchUp toolbox!

This is very cool, but when i try to do it, the object stays invisible in option 2 (tag instead of layer, sketchup 2020) All i see is an empty blue box. I have to turn on option 1 to actually see my copied object. Any ideas?

Unfortunately you can't create a new Layer using the Entity info dialogue box on a pc. You have to start a new Sketchup file and copy and "paste in place" what you duplicate. Then create a new layer and make it the active layer. Delete the layer your content is on and choose "Move contents to Current layer". Finally copy and paste in place in the original file. It will come in on the new layer and not have any geometry on any other layers.
