Can I just say thanks? Your approach to tutorials is a much easier flow to follow and understand. What frustrates me with a lot of tutorials out there is how they teach you things when you have so many questions for efficiency and best practices FIRST before diving in and thinking you know what you're doing.
Thanks, Aaron. This is process is a tough one to describe without causing confusion; you clarified/demonstrated it extremely well. The video really the demonstrates that SEQUENCING of processes is so important in economizing the effort one has to spend. Many of the complaints about SU modeling to provide final output (for print, presentation, project review, and, yes, even Layout) can be remedied surprisingly by developing a procedure AND recognizing that one procedure may not work well in different situations, but it may take practice and experience to discover best methods. I see also, that it may be advantageous (at least when a model design is firm/finalized) to make an extra copies of a model and START FROM SCRATCH IN in each model, CREATING SCENES relevant to desired result.
Thanks as always Aaron. One thing I do that seems to help is set up 2 styles for each "look", one with section cut active, the other not active. "Active" for sections, "not active" for exterior elevations. Avoids section cuts appearing in layout when not expected.
Excellent! Thanks Aaron - from someone who recently requested a Layout Skill Builder! Really nicely explained and now feel confident trying Layout out again. Looking forward to part 2! All the best, Steve
Thank you! This was great. I want to use layout, but I always stumble on the best way to get my drawings in shape to be opened up in layout. This video provides a great starting point.
Yeah, That was super helpful. Simple process to follow. I need to learn more about how to process my model using Style Builder tools and will look at more of your instructional videos.
You of all people!! :-) , truly love your videos Ron, have been a subscriber for awhile now, you motivated me to go towards Sketchup, Keep up the awesome content!
I just watched this a second time. I am working hard on the Paulk Total Station Ultralight and need to start from scratch with so many changes in the "As Built." I have invested 25 minutes to watch this twice and it will save me hours, but more importantly, I will be much less frustrated. I am subscribed and waiting from your next video drop. Hurry Up, I need the help😎
Thanks, Aaron, great info on prepping the model before sending it to LayOut! I use SketchUp Pro to design furniture to build in my workshop. I would *really love* to see how you prep a furniture (or any mechanical / industrial design) model so that all the individual parts can be efficiently arranged, dimensioned, etc., in LayOut. It takes me a long time the way I approach model preparation for LayOut, putting each individual part on its own unique layer. An even bigger challenge for me is separating out just one part on its own layer when there are multiples of that part used throughout my design, which is often the case. I have a sense that lots of folks who do other than architectural design with SketchUp would really benefit, too.
@@aarondietzen2995 Hi Aaron, Thanks for the reply. What I'm referring to is a site plan that is required on a set of plans for plan-check approval. It will show fully dimensioned property lines, the footprint of a proposed building(s) or proposed addition to an existing building. Landscaping and hardscaping will also be incorporated into this plot plan. If I may, I can send you a PDF or JPEG sample of what I'm referring to.
oh! first 😋 But on a more sensible comment, thanks, very nice! I would like some more tuts on irregular roofs. Whenever i build a place , especially if it's a weird one, i can't get the roofing to sit right.
I dont like use hiden geometry. Layers and style settings works much better, imho. For example, I never have visible section cuts in my styles, also layers visibility managed by scenes is amazing. And for me is crucial to have scenes alligned - when I switch 1st adn 2nd floor, they must match in view (no transition nor anything else except active section cut). Nick Sonder is great in preparing SU for LO.
I like it, really appreciate the visual help, I just purchased used copies of. Sketchup; A Design Guide for woodworkers, Sketchup to Layout and The Sketchup Workflow for Architecture, .......Don"t Laugh..... Just a carpenter wanting to present ideas in a professional way!
I don´t like to save the camera location in sketchup, except for strange angles. I prefer to set the camera location in layout, because, if I re-save an available scene again I often save inadvertently a new camera location and that ends up in a distort layout view.
Thanks, Aaron, I like the 8-9' deep landscaping geometry group? that shows the basement, grass and driveway. Is there a video that shows how to create this? Thanks.
excellent. i had just clumsied my way to get scenes for layout, this is much more efficient. now on to layout, and standard symbols? like section cuts? where are they
very nice presentation however it would be nice if the headings were in numerical order as to where I can start and what to watch next - layout 1 layout 2 and so on -- any how thumbs up keep the good work
Very simple instructions and e3asy to follow. When you draw your walls, do you include the finish thickness? If so, when you go to layout, how do dimension the framing?
Hello Aaron, is there a preferred method, for constructing an interior (or exterior for that matter), interior sketches room model, to eventually go into layout that you know will be constructed as a set? My meaning being that, some of the outside walls/flats will be single clad and dividing walls etc could be double clad. But each wall/flat is an individual build. Hope that makes sense? Best Alex,
hii ı have question .how to change layer color (layout). it is important for me because ı export from sketchup layout to autocad(Organizing) I know the export option is available within.(layout) but I didn't understand how I changed the layer's color thank you very much if you reply
(my english is not so good i hope you understood what i said)
Can I get this model?? Because I want to learn LAYER ARRANGEMENT from this. Actually, In my drawing, I don't know how to create layers systematically. Plz, Help me !! I want to create much more informatics drawing. I'm Big Fan of YOU!!!!
Is this similar to Matt Donley's SketchUp to LayOut process? I am most familiar with Nick Sonder's process and somewhat familiar with Michael Brightman's process.
I will not claim to have anything as comprehensive in mind as what Donley and Sounder have in their book. I do highly recommend that, if this is of interest to you, you check it out!
@@aarondietzen2995 I have education and experience in drafting & design. I've been using SketchUp for only 2 years and primarily used AutoCAD in the past. I have been considering the ConDoc Tools for about a year. Nevertheless, I have been learning the Medeek BIM plugins for 2 or 3 months. Now that the LayOut API is available, I'm hoping for improved functionality in the future.

You are welcome, John! I love the idea of versioning, but I am terrible at doing it!

Glad it helped!

Me either! I wonder what I will do!!

GREAT CONTENT! I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE VIDEOS LIKE THIS ON LAYOUT WORKFLOW! THANKS
Thank you, this was a great tutorial. Now my workflow to set up scenes is way more logical and efficient.
Hello from France, great video. I'm waiting for the next one on Layout
Thanks Arron that is exactly the kind of information I've been looking for. Keep them coming.
Will do!
Loved it. Excellent presentation.
Nice tips about the outliner and the interaction with hidden content!
That was realllly good!
Well done Sir!
You are so welcome!
Thanks for posting! Learned a couple different ways to think about things.
That was very helpful. You answered so many questions I can't tell you. Much Thanks!
Great tutorial! I’d like to see your process on how you would create a plot plan from Sketchup to Layout.
When you say “plot plan” are you talking about landscaping?
