I love the way you guys to the time to really look around Venice and not just stick to a strict schedule of tourist spots. I’ve never been but I honestly feel like what you did might be the best way to explore the city and find all of those awesome books and crannies! Also just a random side note my profile picture is from an anime and manga that is set in Venice called Aria the Animation

Very nice video. You're definitely right about the museums. I still love them if not for the actual architecture themselves and seeing more buildings inside. But, I do love the cityscapes and seeing more of the hustle and bustle of the people who live and work there probably even more! :) I like your take on exploration. You offer different things to what normal tourists do and that's why I continue to love your videos years after discovering your channel. Great work, guys! :D

I LOVE Tiramisu!! I make a no-egg, decaf, non-alcoholic version and it's my favourite dessert! The "custard" is whipped mascarpone cheese and the "cake" is lady finger biscuits. The lady fingers are quite dry and they soak up the coffee, so they become soft like cake.

I'm the guy that commented on the second venice video about the format and how much i enjoied it, just changed my nick. As far as i know every cemetery in italy has pictures of the deceased on the tombstone. I can tell you that when someone dies in your family and you need to arrange for funeral and burial one of the things you have to think about is what picture of the person is gonna end up on the tombstone.
I'm pretty excited about you going to croatia as well. I've been to croatia last year and it was a very good experience. If you enjoy nature you cannot miss the Plitivice lakes park. It is incredible.
I'm also looking forward to you coming back to Italy!

Thank you, thank you. I just happened on your video and it was such a treat. Went to Italy:Venice and the three islands, plus last year. I love Italy. Seeing it again through your eyes brought back sweet memories. Did the whole tourist group thing for our first European trip. It was a good introduction but think your way of exploration is just lovely. We finally got the guts to explore on our own when we got to Florence and Rome as we tired of typical buffet food and on the hunt for Risotto. Enjoy your travels. Your positive attitude even though not everything is perfect is so refreshing. And yea, what the heck IS with the toilets without seats?

    Your final comment deserves applause.
I wish you to visit the Italian peninsula.
I live in Bergamo in northern Italy. In northern Italy the cuisine is decent, including Venice.
In central and southern Italy the level of culture and gastronomic tradition is indescribable.
Italy in addition to the most popular tourist destinations offers many pleasant surprises.
I wish you to discover them even in a small way.
Pizza and ice cream are just the typical tourist symbol, in Italy there is an incredible gastronomic variety. For your spirit of adventure and your way of traveling, which I appreciate, I wish you to organize a trip to Emilia, Tuscany, Marche, Abruzzo, etc ... Sicily.
I have visited almost all of Europe and I have enjoyed many countries. but I guarantee you that the center - south of Italy will make you fall in love

We have a large Jewish community where I live so I'm well acquainted with the food. The Matzoh ball soup is just comfort food, it's not really amazing but it's what you eat to remind you of grandma and home and feeling better when you feel poorly. There's no meat in it, it's just a big dumpling made from unleavened bread. Jewish food is kinda relaxed, I don't really know of any "fancy" dishes. Smoked brisket is as close to a "fancy" dish as I can think of. Most of it is of the "grandma used to make this" category of dish.

    • @ikaruseijin01
      @ikaruseijin01 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes they use schmalz. Egg binds the matzoh, but the schmalz is used for flavouring and improved texture. You can make dumplings without fat but they tend to turn into something akin to rubber.
Schmalz is mostly chicken fat but also goose and duck as well. I did my research for an experimental recipe that was chicken soup inspired. It worked too. It was a focaccia bread made from traditional Thanksgiving stuffing seasonings. I used poultry fat instead of olive oil in the recipe. Herbs, onions, a touch of chicken broth. Tasted just like turkey stuffing.

My family is from the East Coast and I grew up around mostly Jewish people, I had NO IDEA there were in Venice! And it’s amusing to see someone who knows so little about the food/culture (though I’m sure those of us familiar would learn something too). So, while I know little about Venice pastry, I /do/ know what Jewish food tastes like, so I can compare that to what your think.
YES, the food is “comfort food”, the Jewish-American Delis, at least. It’s how I learned to love chopped chicken liver at a young age. And then potato pancakes, blitzes, tongue sandwich (yum)...not low calorie! GREAT PICKLES and GREAT FISH (especially smoked).

You know where all the Italian kids were? Scotland!-lol We just returned from Edinburgh and the kids just loaded up the busses there. Loved your videos from Scotland and learned a lot from you, like stay in the vehicle and not try to climb random hills. Actually there are groups of climbers who make it their thing to try to climb every peak in the Highlands.

That climb was probably our favorite day from our entire visit to Scotland, I can see why people make it a point to climb lots of them. -E

I played kerplunk growing up with my brothers, my nan use to have a load of old board games in my dad's old room in her house in London, so when we'd visit every other Sunday, we'd all play old board games, or cricket in the back garden, or a game of "hide the frogs" (Don't ask)
But kerplunk was always one of the favourite games to play over the years growing up, simple game, but way really fun, before Iphones and video games.

Where you live disabled toilets don't have seats!? This most definitely was a plain old regular Italian toilet where you have a 30% chance of getting a seat to sit on, haha. -E

UK, i am not disabled but a friend is. He told me disabled toilets do not have seats cause they can easily break, split, come loose, etc, and well I dont have to spell the rest out. H&S is crazy in the UK, especially public access places. thanks for your reply guys :) sorry, edit, also a disabled person can fall over, etc, try to lift or lower the seat, just what i got told

Have been to Venice a number of times already and can’t wait to go back. To get the most out of the city, tour in the evening when most people have gone. The toilet seat issue is due to some people standing instead of sitting on the seats and breaking the seat.

Lol I was enjoying watching the video so much I forgot to take notes:
    - All the treats looked so yummy
    - I don't think I even Knew there were islands that were part of the Venice area, so that was interesting to see. Added both to my travel list :)
    - I AM a museum person (as I believe I've mentioned before. VERY history/archaeology/museum oriented), and so the point about the museums being expensive along with the sometimes expensive transportation costs is why (even thought I haven't Been to many of the places on my list yet) I will Always look at the City Passes. Most of them end up including both transportation passes as Well as things like museums or churches, ect, and a lot of times you end up paying less than you would've if you would've just gotten things individually (especially if you would want to see a lot of things like I would who would want to go to probably Every museum in Venice......lol), and a lot of the time part of the benefit of the city pass is that you can go to the front of the lines on some big things. Like, even if I ever travel to NYC, I plan on getting the City Pass as it includes things like bike rentals, unlimited Hop On/ Off bus tour, entrance to the Top of the Rock *And* the Empire State Bldg, the Met (one of the TOP museums on my bucket list and which, even though is already free, the city pass gets you front of the line), Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, and like 90 other things, plus discounts at some restaurants and stores, and also I believe for a small additional fee you get unlimited subway usage during non-peak hours. So it just seems like a No-Brainer to me, for a first-time visitor to NYC, and City Passes in general just seem worth their price to me :)
    - That pasta looked DIVINE
    - I have Really enjoyed these 3 videos on Venice. It has always been on my list of course, but now I have So much more respect for it, and I always Love the way you guys explore a place, and it really feel like we (yes, we..lol) all have a much better sense of what Venice is actually like, so thanks again for another Great video and video series you two =D

We were there in early March 2018, and the coldest it's been in 29 years we were told. Anyway, great videos and I am perplexed as well with the toilets...we were there 3 weeks and no public toilet lids-only at our western hotel. Hovering ain't sanitary...nothing like Japan where sanitation is practically automated. Nevertheless Italy changed my life in some ways and we can't wait to go back--that's a given.

Oh, also, I believe you guys asked on the First Venice video what other parts of Italy you guys should check out if you ever go back. I forgot to suggest that time, but I would recommend Trento (and the whole province of Trentino). I've never been to Italy Myself, but one of my cousins did some of his Post Graduate work with his advisor in Trento, and from what I heard and the pictures and stuff I would see, it seems like a Really nice little town. It's in the Northern part of the country, it's an Alpine town, but because it's also a college town I don't think it would be As overrun with tourists? But I don't know, as I've never been there. But the town itself just seems to be really nice, and based on some of what I've seen from some travel social media peeps and companies, the entire province just seems like a really nice place to explore and experience :)

I'm curious, when you guys travel to different spots and film in shops and restaurants, do you have to ask permission? And do you ever get told that you're not allowed?
Venice looks spectacular. Would really love to travel there someday.

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Usually when we film in places we try to keep to ourselves and not bother others. We will sometimes ask for seats away from other customers, or away from loud music, but usually we don't need to ask permission to film. It happens sometimes, but it's rare. Basically, most of the time people hardly even notice what we are up to. -E

My grandma did have a professional photo session specifically for her mausoleum photo. But, my uncle’s is a candid photo. To answer your question; some do, others don’t.
