After so many of years of being subscribed to you and watching your content, I'm surprised you guys are still at 47K subs. The perspective you give on long form vids is truly unique and unlike any other travel channel I've watched.
TH-cam's robots hate us for making long videos and not focusing on a narrow subject matter (food only, Japan only, etc). But glad you see through it all and enjoy it! -E
@@kydeanderic I think it has more to do with people having relatively short attention spans. For an outsider who has never watched any of your other videos, committing close to an hour or more on one video is asking a lot. So that's kind of a big barrier to entry for new viewers.
But on the other hand, short clickbaity travel videos are a dime a dozen now and you guys are doing something unique which serves a niche and I absolutely love that.
Yea, so I think there is truth to that for sure, but for a couple years I was also putting out short videos a few times a month and they always performed worse than the longer videos. The issue really, is that it's aiming at a moving target with TH-cam's always changing algorithm that literally no one knows how works. It puts us in a hard spot, do I conform to what TH-cam wants and just become yet-another clickbaity travel vlog channel in order to keep the project "alive" or do I just make what I want to make and hope enough people enjoy it enough to help us out on Patreon? So far that is the route I chose, as I think if I had to make clickbaity videos I wouldn't personally enjoy watching I'd rather just stop making videos. But yea, it's a complex situation we've found ourselves in. Not quite succeeding, but also not quite failing either.

@@kydeanderic i wouldnt change a thing, you have "your" audience everyone who watches is here because we want to watch and love your stuff, so dont sweat about numbers, a lot of channels that are pretty trashy imo do amazing numbers. I`d rather do something that I enjoy making and was proud of like you guys are than catering to the masses. Just keep doing what youre doing as long as you enjoy doing it !

I asume you were there around Catholic Easter... That explains the grass in the church on 19:20 . It is a tradition of planting grass on the day of st.Lucija, few weeks before Easter and by the time of Easter it grows nicely and you put it on your dinning table or put it in your house as a decor. Nice videos by the way...really liked Vukovar and Istria videos... Greetings from Zagreb.

Neven true that. They're too hard if uncooked. They're made like pasta in hot water then covered in gravy. Traditionaly eaten with turkey in northern Croatia.

@@brucewillixaspirinix9652 You do not have to cook. Just cook the water and pour over them and after 1 or 2 minutes drain the water. They are best when they are warm and when they overflow with roasting juice.

Not being picky, but it's interesting that Americans usually refer to seas as oceans, whether they are or not. I suppose it's because the USA has oceans either side.

Haha! It sounds like the mlinci "cracker" is prepared similar to matzoh in matzoh brei, by soaking it first to soften before further cooking. I hope you got to try it as a pasta-like dish with turkey while you were there in Zadar. I have heard of that 'sea organ' before, possibly in an art class, but did not realize it was in Croatia. Good video, glad you liked Zadar. Zadar was heavily destroyed in world war 2, almoast all the buildings, including that cathedral you were in. You can check photos online. You can see shrapnel holes on the pillar in the video for instance. Before that bombardment it was filled with statues, sculptures, had an amazing theater, the streets were all made out of cobblestone. It all had to be renovated. The city walls are now part of UNESCO world hearitage. And you didnt mention the church of St. Donatus at 27:06 which is symbol of the city. About the expensive food, well....im sure you already saw the prices in rest of Dalmatia. Usually meals are plentifull, and good, that one didn't look like it.
It must have been an amazing place pre-war. Yea, the meal wasn't....super filling. Haha -E
Yeah that was a really bad call from the allies... (dunno who did it, the british or the americans...). "Well we heard that there are a few italians in this general area, which is incidentally inhabited by a population who is already actively resisting them and had been for some time. What can we do to help? I know! Let's raze to the ground this 3000 year old ancient capital of the people we're supposed to be liberating! That'll surely help!" Really awful stuff. Thousands of civilians died, most of whom were actively on the allies side, the ancient city core was completely pulverized, more than two thousand years of continuous history of architecture, probably more spectacular than say Dubrovnik, while I doubt they managed to hit a single italian soldier. Zadar used to be called "Dresden of the Adriatic" and that tells you something.
That part about the washing machine is very entertaining for me. It's like you can tell about everyday thing and people can have a good laugh over that. You certainly have a knack for making mundane things interesting. And thank you for sharing that talent.

Thanks for another lovely video; worth waiting for. We used to have one of those cookers in the early 80s. Good enough to cook for dinner parties. They're quite cheap from Argos and Tesco here in the UK. I'm actually thinking of buying one. I would've thought they were popular in Japanese apartments with lack of space.
Most Japanese apartments are equipped with a place for a stovetop, but yea, this would make things nicer sometimes. -E

There's a Sea Organ in San Francisco also, on a little peninsula-kinda thing near the Green Marina
sea organ in sf is zadar's replica. actually, they saw it in zadar and decided to make it in san fancisco.

LOL-the "Chips/ bread" you were eating is actually called "Mlinci"....it is kinda like a pasta that is cooked and then mixed with the drippings of meat-usually and traditionally served with turkey or duck. You ate it raw-lol Aside from that, good video. I was just in Zadar and Zagreb as well as Rijeka. All good places. Zadar is small but very cool for the 5 days I was there. The sea organ is nice to relax to.

I use a little cooker like that. Perfect for a single person. If you lower the toast rack and get a baking tray you can cook even a chicken in it. I bake bread in mine. The third god at the baths might be sulis minerva.
@11:56 I agree with Eric, I think someone removed the knob at one point and replaced back 180 degrees from where it was supposed to be. The knob is circular, all that needs to be changed is the black marking on it.
Mlinci was just added to some European list of official Croatian foods, and I hope you were able to enjoy it soaked in turkey drippings as intended. My wife makes mlinci at home, and I do admit to swiping the unbroken hard shards to eat without her knowing. Another beautiful video folks. Hvala ljepa.

If you looking for the low cost budget restaurants, in Croatia, especially In winter I would recommend you to ask
local people for restaurants which offers "marende" (Dalmatia) or Gablec (North Croatia) ...
Thats restaurans which offers daily specials like Gulaš stew, Musaka, Beans with sausages, for low cost between 30-60 kn
Those are not fancy places for taking Instagram selfies but definitely VALUE FOR MONEY

I always enjoy your guys' little bonus clips at the end. Really great video. Had never even heard of this town before (as is probably expected, I think most people only know Dubrovnik), but Man has this town gone Straight onto my Croatia travel list. What an Awesome historic town =D
Oh, a little addendum I thought of at the end when you guys were talking about how nice it was without being Too touristy: you didn't put the date you guys were there anywhere, but I recall, you guys were there in May or something, right? Right at the end of your trip. Don't forget, the real HIGH season in most of Europe is in summer, July and August especially I believe, so you guys weren't there during the Really busy months, so even that little town probably is almost nightmare-ish in the high season. But anyway, awesome video as always. Really looking forward to the Dubrovnik video(s) :))
Yea, we know the tourist season wasn't in full swing yet, but you can sorta tell by the infrastructure that exists just how touristy a place can get. Compared to what we saw in Split and Dubrovnik Zadar is pretty subdued. -E

Dubrovnik is beautiful I had R&R there when serving with the UN in the 90’s.
Regarding laundry machine , it is actually 30 celsius , not 30 minutes .

That apartment went from Saw 2 as you walked up the stairs to Friends as you went inside. Whoever built it could have doubled the size of the bathroom to make it more usable and cut down on the bedroom size a bit it seems.

And I'd like to try that cheese. I make cheese (French goats fromage) as my day job. But eat all kinds. Regarding that sea air thing, an island called Isle de Re, just off our marina at La Rochelle produces little potatoes & a light white wine that goes well with the local fish dishes. anyway you 2 will get to experience for yourselves if/ when you stop over for a few days with us.

I'm planning a trip to Croatia, renting a car. I have some trepidations about taking the car into Split. Is Split so great that we need to stay there, or could we just take a bus from Zadar for the day? Your video's are super, even the extended food discussions! Now I can't wait to have a dish with truffles in Istria!!

Hmmmm a thought on the washer... are you sure the knob wasn’t put on upside down.... did you try to pull the knob off, and turn it around and put it back on so the line is in the right spot? I had a stove once where the knobs fit on the opposite way round and it was really annoying because my ex found t funny to take them off and tie them round! So yeah... maybe that was the issue?

Yea, this must be some linguistical quirk in Croatian that's not shared in English, "Sea" and "Ocean" are used interchangeably in English despite there being a difference in the strict meaning, and we got a lot of comments from local Croatians for some reason offended we used the word "ocean". -E

I lived in Zadar at that same time and knew a lot of other American-Croatian kids, but he was about 4 years or so a head of me and I was attending class at the grammar school level and unfortunately never met him. Although Whirlpool is an American make, the use of widely understood symbols makes sense in Europe, a market of many languages. You see the same thing with road signs.
It's possible they use them in America as well, but we've been in Japan so long we forget things sometimes. -E

Yea, I'm learning that in American English we use the terms sea and ocean interchangeably even though they have different meanings.
