    Hi just a few tips for people who have found this video, 1st you should drain the oil with the bike on the sidestand, thats the reason honda put the drain plug on that side of the engine 2nd never screw in the dipstick to check the oil level always put it in and rest it on the hole, 3rd there is an oil filter inside the engine, just undo the right side engine cover and there is a oil pump and mesh which should be cleaned out ... happy biking

      Most 250 Nighthawks won't have a center stand anyway. However, if it IS on a center stand, it's easier to rock side to side to get the last drops out.

      @ghubca Correct.
      …and the oil level shall be checked with the bike held in an upright position (not on centre stand).
      All of this is in the owner’s manual.

    When you checked the oil level after your change, you did not use the correct method and you will be running your bike with near minimum oil level. You DON'T screw the did stick in. You rest it on the top threads, Since there is about half an inch of thread on the dip stick you are about half an inch low on your oil level. I think that is an important error.

    Hey, you mentioned that you just got the motorcycle. I’m looking at a similar nighthawk 250 for my first motorcycle and was wondering how much you purchased that one for as a point of reference?

      I purchased it for 1450$ and sold it for 1930$

      I paid $325 for my 91. Had 2300 miles on it and been sitting for years. New battery and lots of time on the carb. Runs great!

      Devan Persaud I just went through this. You have to replace the whole reflective plate and everything the bulb doesn’t come out.

      Did you manage? Its pretty easy, no need to replace the reflective plate..

    What about the oil filter?

    • @STho205
      @STho205 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The only filter is a screen on the sump tube inside the motor (right sidecover). It is really not worth cleaning if you change your oil regularly.
      I just had mine off for the first time in 50000 miles last year. The screen was almost completely clean.
      These hondas do not have bunches of swarth or metal filings like India bikes or China bikes from their breakin period.
      Just an easy oil change like a lawn mower. About 1.5qts. Cost me $10 every 3000 to 4000 miles. Takes 5 minutes.

      Chain adjusting is your biggest pain every 2000 miles or so. Happy motoring.

    There are some flaws with this tutorial. First of all using an oil with an SJ API ref isn't really a good oil, there are cheap good oils with API SN on the market. Secondly there is a oil filter that you didn't clean, but it's indispensable to clean it. To finish, you measured the oil level with the dipstick screwed in and it should just be rested

      this engine doesnt have an oil filter

    • @Tonyv1951
      @Tonyv1951 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@diogoantunes8085 Oh yes it does. You have to remove the clutch cover to get at it. It is not an easy job. Supposed to be cleaned at 12000 mile intervals

    • @STho205
      @STho205 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Tonyv1951have you ever seen real debris or clogging on that internal filter.
      Had one out that was 50000 miles on the clock and the factory cover gasket. It was clear.
      Most owners will do more damage removing the cover than they'll help cleaning that screen.
      Gasket leaks, stripped bolts, bent screens.

      There's no oil filter per se, but there is a screen to catch bigger bits of debris. You can clean it if you have access to it, but the service manual doesn't recommend it as part of regular oil change. (edit: the Clymer manual recommends cleaning the oil screen every 8,000 miles.)
