I know its an old video but thank you for the help. Made me changing mine a breeze! Hardest thing was finding a wrench/socket that would fit my axle nut.
I just changed front sprocket on CB250 Two-Fifty (same as Nighthawk in US, but has cast wheels and disc brake). Original setup was 14 teeth on front and 31 on back. I put 13 teeth on front and was expecting it to go slower but more energetic. Turns out it goes faster now! Top speed is within better RPM range. I checked with Endomondo app and GPS app - 116 kph constant , repeatable top speed! Max I saw was 119 kph. I'm very happy with results! I was thinking if I should go for 15 teeth or13 teeth (I simply wanted to try something different than stock) and I think I chose perfectly! It's excellent for city. Top speed in 2nd gear is 70 kph !!!
no problem. If you're struggling to find any info on these bikes, you could try HondaRebelForum, as the Rebel and the Nighthawk are essentially the same bike.
ok thats good to know! how many teeth does the rear one have, and i doubt it would kill the acceleration, i mean its a twin so its got a bit of grunt? im thinking about investing thats all. :)
Good bid, the front sprocket connects to the splines of the drive, the sprocket is retained by the locking washer when lined up by turning lock washer in the groove nearest to the splines end on the drive. This will allow chain retention washer to be secured with bolts and therefore , splines on washer retain sprocket by simply aligning by ridge displacement, . Dirtbike speakers
@LXXITobinator the performance doesn't really feel much different. Maybe a tiny bit less acceleration and a bit less revvy once it gets up around 50mph. I would definitely recommend it for long commutes.
another thing for anyone to note, is that after tensioning the rear wheel you should test your rear brake before riding and adjust the screw holding the spring so that it works properly
Alex's Bikes and Motors I must've missed it, I just didn't do it after installing mine, and was surprised when I started riding lol. On an unrelated note, I do hear a slight rattle/buzz from the front sprocket area when riding. Did yours do this at all? Its slight and I can only hear it when the revs are low (like when I hold the clutch in while going 10+mph). I took the sprocket off after riding a bit, and it showed no signs of rubbing, so I figure its just the chain interfering with a thinner than stock sprocket. What do you think? Btw thanks for the video.
John Smith If you're certain the chain isn't rubbing on the case, check the chain tension to make sure it isn't too slack. If both are fine then i wouldn't worry about it.
the 15t sprocket doesn't really decrease acceleration. I actually noticed a small improvement in acceleration in addition to top speed gains. The 15t is a much better gearing arrangement for the NH's engine. Also, I buy my parts on ebay. Or Bikebandit if i can't find a part on ebay.
i believe the rear sprocket is 33 teeth stock. If i were you, i would first do the front sprocket mod, and then if you don't mind losing some acceleration, change up the rear sprocket too.
As for the exhaust, the whole assembly is one piece! No removable baffles, or a removable ballancer or anything, which sucks! And as for the revving, it is off-putting, but these engines are designed to rev up round 6-7 thousand RPM all day long. People do use a smaller rear sprocket in addition to the +1 front sprocket, but i feel like that might be asking a bit much, since this bike is kinda gutless. I'm on a Nighthawk 450 now, and it's much nicer to ride. 5 speed with overdrive!
hello brother greetings from Venezuela, I have a honda nighthawk 250 year 1992 I mention one of the problems I have is that there are no good mechanics for this type of motorcycle, I have two years with a fault that when I put down the spark plug on the left side turns off only when I go in speed, in neutral does not , well the fault is more constant on the left side, and the right side is very little, to get it to start working the spark plug the disconnected and put the spark away and returns to match the spark plug, I hope you help me thanks .. .........
well I bought a 15t sprocket that said it was good for the job but it didn't fit in the rollers on my chain correctly it was a 278-15t sprocket my current is a 287-14t sprocket I cant find a 287-15t so I was wondering if you knew the brand or spec of the one you used in the vid. Thanks for replying by the way 😊
ok so I investigated more and it looks like there is a sprocket for the USA nighthawk but not the cb250n 'two fifty' uk model which is almost identical but not quite, guess I should have talked to you sooner Thanks for your help

You still have this bike?
Anyway you can do more videos on maintenance on this bike
I just got the exact same one but 2001..

cool, do you reckon if you changed the rear sprocket aswell it would go a bit quicker too? more after knowledge of the top end potential.

I mentioned this in an annotation.

can you please leave a link for the sprocket

Does a small front sprocket increase horsepower
It doesn't increase horsepower but lets the bike go faster at lower RPM's which makes it feel more powerful.
i believe the rear sprocket is 33 teeth stock. If i were you, i would first do the front sprocket mod, and then if you don't mind losing some acceleration, change up the rear sprocket too.
Thanks for this....it made the job a snap!
yes, downsizing the rear sprocket will give you more top speed, but it will make acceleration suffer.
yer man! cheers for the help, on the topic of th nighthawk there is literally nothing! :| so thank you mate!!
stock 83. With the mod, around 90 MPH

How do you reset the trip-meter without changing the odometer?

how fast will one of these go flat out?
how do you change rear sprocket on a nighthawk?

i would start by replacing the spark plugs, they are cheap. If that doesn't fix it then replace the ignition coils and spark plug wires.
ok hermano
ok brother already change the spark plugs and coils are new also he has tested several CDI and continues the problem
nice vid, thx for posting
what is the spec on that 15T sprocket I wanna do the mood on my CB250
what do you mean by that?
well I bought a 15t sprocket that said it was good for the job but it didn't fit in the rollers on my chain correctly it was a 278-15t sprocket my current is a 287-14t sprocket I cant find a 287-15t so I was wondering if you knew the brand or spec of the one you used in the vid. the sprocket I installed is a 287-15t. I purchased it on ebay. I'm sure there are many still available there.
