Johnny, the number 2 reason (#1, you are funny) I watch your channel? You don’t try to be something you’re not. You are just yourself. Please stay that way. Plus, you know your stuff! You rock! Don’t get in a hurry to grow your channel. By keeping it real, it will grow just fine. Thx for all you do!
I have owned a griddle for a year. Haven’t touched the Weber Grill since. Breakfast and versatility are the reason. Plus the whole experience of cooking on the griddle is a zen like thing for me. “Putting string in a weed whacker” proof you are a man of the people.
I have traditionally been a grill and smoker person. I have lived full time in a small RV for about a year and a half. I do have a "tabletop" pellet grill which I love. I recently purchased the Blackstone Adventure Ready 14 inch griddle with side burner. I use it every day for breakfast and have done burgers and steaks as well. It is now a vital part of my simple existence, oh, and beer too. Love your videos brother.
Ya I've never done the RV thing but it seems like the perfect grill for that sort of traveling or living. I appreciate you watching and glad to hear beer is also a vital part of your simple existence, as it should be! 🍻🍻🍻
I only have a small portable griddle I bought before last football season, but we use it regularly. Johnny was my main source for info as I was learning about what to look for. Keep doing what you’re doing. I have watched lots of different griddle TH-cam channels, but yours is the only one I stuck with.
Got my griddle a year ago. Watched several TH-cam channels to get educated before hand. This is the only one I still watch on the regular. So many other folks just take it too seriously. Wife was on the fence about the griddle. But I was so fired up to try different things that she hardly ever cooks anymore! For that reason alone she recommends a griddle more often than I do.
Came across your channel last winter. Got my griddle last May. I now clean my stove with a swiffer. I'm going to try to pace myself for the live tonight but i'm making no promises. (I'm already 3 deep and it's only 1:30). Cheers Johnny and happy fathers day!🍻
🤣🤣🤣🤣 you celebrate father's day however you want my friend. And it's ok if you don't pace yourself tonight bc you won't be on camera like me lol. I need to make sure I don't start slurring my words!
Howdy Johnny, I enjoy a big breakfast and enjoy cooking it on a Saturday or Sunday morning for the family. I never did this until I bought a Blackstone griddle two years ago, found your channel and learned the basics of the griddle. I have expanded my "repertoire" to include steaks, bacon wrapped chicken breasts etc. The griddle has more versatility than a grill to me. I use it year round here in Southwest Ohio. Appreciate, your keeping it simple approach and magnanimous outlook on mistakes that are inevitably going to be made. Each video boosts my confidence and skill set. Have A Day! ;~)
I regret buying a new grill a couple months ago. I found this channel and now can't see my self grilling much again. Thanks! (haha) - Suffice it to say, I now own a griddle! Please keep serving up new cooking ideas so I can keep the weeknight menu fresh for the family.
I wouldn't get rid of the grill. There are things that you can do with it that you just can't even come close with a griddle. Together as a team, though, you can make some incredible meals. A third team member that would cover all the bases would be a smoker, even if it's a smaller, cheaper one. (My grandkids think I'm the greatest cook on earth because of them) But, it depends on what you want and like to do. Have a great day!
String trimmer problem. Not sure which model you have (speed feed or traditional) but the one I use has a simple diagram on the bottom of the bumper where the string goes in. it shows how after you put the string in, you pull it backward from the angle it was inserted to wind it up. Keep a moderate amount of tension on the string, not too tight, not too loose, and fill the gaps as evenly as possible when winding it up. While trimming, always try to keep the string at it's maximum length possible because if it gets too short it will get stuck inside the trimmer head and you'll have to take it off again. Hope this helps I know this video is 3 months old already and the season is just about over lol. Thanks for the great griddle content!
Hey thanks so much!!! I really appreciate the tips, I have the Ego electric trimmer. I'm pretty sure it's similar set up to what you described. I'm going to give that a try next time. I really appreciate you taking the time to type this out! Have a good one brother.
I love my 36" Blackstone and do most of my cooking on it. Last spring my grill finally gave up and I sent it to the scrap yard. Still haven't replaced it yet, one day I will. My favorite part of eating out is diners and cafeterias. I absolutely love the clinking and clanging of dishes and the murmur of voices in the background.
I have a Traeger, Weber kettle and now my Blackstone. My outdoor cooking area is now complete. I didn't realize how much use I'd get out of the griddle, but thanks to your channel, I've gotten some awesome inspiration. With that being said, I will be doing ribs on the Traeger on the 4th, and then carne asada on the Weber. Everything else is on the griddle, though. You're not lying about the versatility. Thank you for the guidance.
The griddle is awesome, and there are no smells in the house. 3 months ago I bought one. Veggies and other stuff. Chicken, ribs on the grill. Slow cooking on BBQ kettle. Enjoy your videos. Cheers, happy mistakes
+ 1 for the combo! We have an awesome outdoor kitchen this year = charcoal + gas grill + side burner + gas griddle + side burner / deep fryer! Rock on dude!
another great segment Johnny. I think of it as a great big fry pan. Mine is on a screen porch so its out of the weather. i cook breakfast for myself on it most weekdays. grandkids like the breakfast sandwiches with english muffin, egg, sausage or bacon and cheese. your thermometer is cool. thanks for sharing.
I love my new griddle. I haven't found cooking eggs any problem on the LeGriddle stainless steel surface at all. The key is residual heat for eggs. Had it about a month now. I've made all the usual stuff. Smash burgers, steak sandwiches, all things breakfast, and doing steaks today. I do love my smoker too though. I have been smoking on a horizontal for about 30 years. Grilling too somewhat but smoking and griddling are my go to now. The last "con" you mentioned was not one I wanted to do. That's why I changed gears and went stainless steel. It takes 5 minutes to clean and no seasoning. I have too much work and family obligations to do and I'm no spring chicken. I wasn't looking for more work. I love being outdoors too. Thanks for the video Johnny. Griddle on buddy!!
Ya those le griddles are nice. I had one I used at my last job. Have you smoked some steaks then finished them with a nice seat on the griddle yet? That's always a lot of fun.
Smoking and grilling are my thing, too, with charcoal. I wouldn't use a propane/gas grill if it was the only grill on earth and somebody paid me for it. (I tried 'em and ended up giving them away. Messed up too much meat, too fast.) The Griddle, I believe, would complement the Smokin' and Grillin' for about every meal.
I love my griddle. I agree on the versatility. And also cleanup is not my fav, but all in all I love it. I also have a Weber kettle and a Weber gas grill that has a smoker too. Love them all for different reasons. But the flat top is awesome.
I don't know where you are but here in North Texas DFW area my griddle is used all 4 seasons. Mine is super old but keeps going. I always have a cover on it so upkeep is minimal.
Ya I would but I don't really have recipes or I owe what I'm doing which is why I don't lol. I know the basics and enjoy doing it but am still leat. Once I'm more confident I'll do some Big Green Egg videos. As for how it compares to a pellet grill here's my thought. It can do the indirect smoking and direct cooking so it's more versatile. However due to the shape you won't be able to get on as much as you would with a pellet grill. But that only is a problem if you're cooking a ton of stuff. You are using live fire which means you need to learn how to get it to temp rather than press a button. But there's no electronics that you need to worry about going bad in a few years. . Overall they're a ton of fun and just a little different than pellets. Not necessarily better or worse.
I agree with you on the points you made. Each cooking method has its own purpose. I have two smokers a charcoal grill and a gas grill. By far, the gas grill is least used. Keep up the great down to earth content!
Good video, I think it boils down to this, a lot more versatility and expanded cooking options, at the cost of increased owner/user responsibility and upkeep. If you are willing to learn to use it and take care of it, it will become your favorite cooking instrument.
The fact you can cook almost anything on it, means I can basically cook any meal for my family. Cook space is massively increased from using pans in the house which has encouraged me to look into new meals and push the boundaries. I actually think the day to day cleaning is a lot easier then a grill, you just need to be prepared to put in the periodic re-seasoning etc. (good excuse to sit in the sun for a few hours and sink a few beers though!) I don't think Griddles are that big in the UK yet (I'm the only person I know) but every time I have a cookout, everyone asks about it and is amazed at what you can do with it.
Been watching your channel for a long time and love your content. I think your videos are what finally convinced me to get a griddle after considering it for a long time. I don't have a ton of room in my backyard so I ended up going with one of the combo grill/griddles you mentioned. The Grilla Grills Primate. It's fantastic. Does an awesome job in both configurations. Keep up the awesome work man. Appreciate everything I've learned from watching you.
I noticed since the release of the Weber Slate flat top ( starting at $600+ ) Blackstone is blowing out the sales. Fully loaded 36'' Blackstone for $300. Lid etc. I love my Steel flattop for my grill and my Made-in Griddle but I forsee a Blackstone in my future. lol Thanks Johnny. PS Happy Fathers Day !
As a fellow Columbus person just starting out grilling, finding this channel is both a goldmine and hilarious. Not everyday you see a YT griller holding rhinegeist 😂
Hey neighbor! Thanks for watching and I'm so glad it's been helpful. Ya I drink a lot of Rhinegeist and you'll see CBC in a few videos as well. Congratulations on the new griddle.
@@JohnnyBrunet thanks dawg. i am kinda cheating right now and getting inspiration from this channel haha. currently rocking two lodge cast iron griddles on top of my propane grills grates. works ok.
@@bigsalad481 heck ya man whatever it takes. If you enjoy it then maybe one day you grab a full griddle. Or if you don't like it at least you did t waste money. Let me know if you have any questions.
It’s good to be back amongst the eating and have my tastebuds back. I watched your videos all through chemo and radiation, (it was like some self torture not being able to either eat, and then not be able to taste) I’ve got to start binge watching your channel. You’re not showing up in the feeds. As I’ve said before, thanks for all the help with the griddle!
Hey Jeff I'm so glad that you are back to eating and hopefully doing well post chemo. I don't know why I'm not showing up in your feed but I appreciate you searching me out. As always let me know if you have any questions my friend.
@@JohnnyBrunet I think since I wasn’t binge watching your channel the algorithm at TH-cam started showing me more of my bad habits- RC airplanes, inshore Florida saltwater fishing and poor girls with mammary gland disorders…. Eating, now, is more fun than the above three with the time off, and it’s nice to be in front of the griddle and the RecTeq pellet smoker. Still buying my pants and shirts in the Boys Department, so I created room to eat! (60 pounds lost at rock bottom)
Get yourself a perforated grill pan to cook veggies over charcoal. I'll finally be buying myself a griddle for my birthday next month. Looking at a 30" 3 burner griddle with a side burner. Would there be a big difference to having 4 burners vs 3 for zone cooking?
Pro #3.... I couldn't agree more sir. Best piece I've ever bought. My only nit pick is i like your grease/oil catch better then my Blackstone. Cheers Sir!
If something happens to my griddle, I would get a new one the next day. My gas grill is about ready to rust completely out and I won't be replacing it. Great points.
My Le Griddle finally came in….3 days before I left the country for a month of Safari. First thing I discovered is that unlike a gas grill it does not have a pressure regulator valve built in. So on low I the top was about 400! I think I can also confirm that changing the emissivity coefficient on an IR temp gun does NOT help it work any better. When I get back in the US I will be trying to figure out the gas pressure issue. Cheers from Tanzania dude!
Cograts but man that's a bummer you can't use it. I had one guy tell me that if you put oil down then the thermometer will read better. I don't know that for sure because I haven't tried it. Also I would reccomend just getting the food down before it gets too hot. If you have any more questions just ask, enjoy the safari.
Yes mate 👍. You’re our goto griddle man. Others have product advertising but you’re just not that sell out guy for free stuff. Keep up the great content. And thanks for sharing pal.
I've been watching your videos for a several weeks now and, well, you talked me into it. I've been looking on Marketplace, Craigslist, Fleabay, Amazon, yard sales, and a few other places, hoping to find a used griddle for a decent price. It seems like when I do find what 'm looking for, it's 200 miles or more away in the wrong direction. Last night it dawned on me that, hey, tomorrow is Father's Day and, wow, I'm a Dad. Let me see what Lowe's has on sale. I explained all that to my wife and she approved (since I'm her favorite and she loves me and didn't know what I wanted anyway. She also loves the things I cook outside. (But she is still the spaghetti and Lasagna world champion!)). I found and purchased a "Royal Gourmet 4-Burner Liquid Propane Flat Top Grill" that was on sale for $265 ($109 off), comes with a soft cover, and free delivery to the house. It looks like it would fit the bill and would fit nicely between my slightly modified Char-Griller Outlaw Smoker and my smaller Brinkman smoker (that she got me for Father's Day 15 years ago) and Weber kettle grill. I do believe that the griddle is the "Missing Link" in my outdoor cooking set-up. And it all started with a thunderstorm that came up when I was supposed to grill her steaks, and me not knowing how to do it on my little Presto electric griddle, and finding your video on how you cook steaks on a griddle. (And they came out really good, too!) Thanks for the Videos! I'll be back. Happy Father's Day!
In one word - NO!!! I own a Weber Genesis Gas Grill, and a Pit Boss vertical smoker. In terms of use: #1 - Griddle, #2 - Smoker, #3 - Weber Gas Grill. Griddle is waaay more versatile than any of the other cookers I own. I live in the NE and have my cookers on my carport, so I can use them year round. NICE!!! Try doing scrambled eggs on a Weber!!🍔🥩🍗
I never knew I needed one until my son upgraded and gave me his. I love it for meal prep. With just my husband and me, it's great to have all that room! (My stove broke last year and I'm not replacing it.)
I’m the same and live in Omaha. #1 Griddle, #2 Weber, #3 Traeger. 70%, 20%, 10%. With Johnny’s inspiration, I will pursue Expert level on Griddle, then upgrade from HD Nexgrill. Happy Father’s Day! (Serving Beef and Broccoli)
I built an outdoor kitchen around my FTG600 and a Kamado Joe, personally I see no need for a gas grill. 7 years strong on the Camp Chef. There may be newer griddles out there but I haven't found one better.
Ya I still have my gas grill but the Egg(kimado) and griddle are the way to go. If someone was starting from scratch that's the set up Id tell them to get. You can mdo everything you'd ever want to with those two items.
Johnny, I love your channel and I haven't even bought a griddle yet! I am about to purchase one and something I want to ask your thoughts on. Would you griddle under a Gazebo or under an outdoor structure with roof?
Great news! I came in to work today and my little cutie-pie store director, brought me my forty year anniversary award recognition catalog a month and a week early, and of course I will order my roughly 20 X 20, two burner, Cuisinart gas griddle. Can’t wait. I may have to stock up on Liquid Smoke to have things taste more like my grill. ;-) LOL
Yo Johnny. Once again, a cool breath of honest talk! I think You have a good start on your channel. Perhaps different types of foods, techniques? jimmy
Number one reason I bought the griddle...BREAKFAST! Breakfast cooked outside on the griddle can't be beat! Six weeks ago I bougt the 28 inch Blackstone, love it so much that I went out and bought their 17 inch portable griddle. Thanks for another video my friend!
I’ve had an XL Big Green Egg for 15-20 years. After using a Recteq Bullseye Deluxe, I’m no longer a fan of the BGE. I’m all about getting that Bullseye Deluxe now. Temperature control is fantastic and the 200-1000 (F)) temperature range is everything I need. The pizza kit turns out incredible pizza. Still have the Blackstone because I need them both.
I'm thinking I could prolly get back down to 200 lbs if I would quit watching your videos, Johnny! I mean its like flicking a zippo around a reformed cigarette smoker! Now I gotta thaw out some shaved ribeye cause you flung a hankerin on me for Philly cheesesteaks. Oh...I wanted to give you a tip I've learned with my spatulas. I'm right handed so I turn both spatulas to the left and use the one on the left like it was the side of the griddle. It works mobetta for me anyway. You might try it. Cheers, buddy!
All good points! The not having the house smell like a diner was what made my wife eventually forgive me for getting our griddle without asking her first. Question, I’m considering a larger griddle, currently have the 22” Blackstone but am considering a used Camp Chef 36” No, I don’t need that size, but I’m kinda intrigued by the grill grates under the flat top. Have you ever used yours as a grill? I know they no longer offer the grates so I suspect they’re not great, yes I see what I did there, but I feel like a 36” grill full of chicken or kabobs would just be awesome. Thoughts? Also, don’t mention this to my wife.
So I have only used the grill grates once. Not because they're bad or anything I just only have so much time and when I can cook outside I try to film a griddle video. Overall however I really have enjoyed my camp chef and don't have anything bad to say about it. Also your secret is safe with me 🤣🤣👏
Oh awesome!!! I guess it depends what he likes. There's lots of breweries, and the zoo is very nice. Other than that I really liked Grandview when I lived there. A very walkable little town.
It is just like any other tool. You don’t use a sledge hammer to drive a tack. If you want to drive tacks, get a tack hammer. If you’re breaking up concrete, don’t use a tack hammer, get a sledge hammer. Can’t really cook eggs or pancakes on a grill…steaks on the grill are better than steaks on a griddle. Burgers have different styles and can be done a different appliance. I just love cooking outside, and I cook all kinds of stuff, so I have a bunch of tools and appliances. For someone who has limited space or limited resources, the best thing to do is get the appliance you will use the most, and use consistently. Edit to add: you aren’t the only one who can’t use a string trimmer…😬
I just bought a $15 walmart charcoal grill to do this test - steaks on - charcoal grill vs propane grill vs griddle. As a result, I would NOT categorically say "steaks on the grill are better than steaks on a griddle" because the maillard sear on the griddle & the maillard sear on cast iron pan (virtually the same) was awesome & then basting the cast iron steak with garlic butter in the pan on the grill are all very different things... and then there is charcoal! While I lean heavily with you to the grill (with fat dripping off & catching on fire & flame broiling those steaks) I will soon be grilling steaks on the charcoal grill + hardwood hunks... just to try stuff...
@@harddocs good point. I guess it largely comes down to preference. Not that I won’t eat a nice basted steak, I guess I just prefer them grilled, charcoal is best (for me), but a good gas grill can’t be beat when time is an issue.
@@RamblersDiner - Agree 100% !!!! The gas grill is a fast, fantastic, clean way to make steak / chicken / burgers / pork loin, etc. The best part for me with grilling on charcoal or gas is that "flame broiled" flavor when you have a nice fatty piece of meat! Have you ever seen the "old school" portable Hibachi gas grill with lava stones? It was basically a small camping propane bottle connected to a burner that was under the bottom wire grate & then the wire grate was covered in lava stone with a typical wire grill above that so the fat dripped on the porous stones and the fire under them gave off great flames & heat! I saw one today @ the local "Farm Store" and it was $90!
Btw, my friend, you are a big reason my wife yells at me when I use too many of her expensive organic eggs at one time when I make your inspired hash browns and eggs (and whatever goes with it ). Just like using my grill/smoker/griddle insert, if you are going to take the time, and use the fuel, you go big, or go home. ;-) I never hear her complain when she’s eating it, or waiting to the next day. Of course she would yell at me if I used cheap eggs, too.
Johnny you probably guessed my response, the griddle in not overrated at all. I live in an apartment where I cannot cook outside so I got an Blackstone indoor griddle. Best purchase I have made. I probably use my griddle 3 or 4 times more than my Instant Pot.
The hype might have died down, but an instant pot is still versatile and great. Great for making soup broth. Great for making rice. (Who needs a rice cooker? Sure, you can just use a regular pot, but an instant pot is like an extra pot in your kitchen) I like it for making pea soup, and boiled eggs, .. a few other things. (It helps break down gelatin from meats / bones quickly)
I've only had my griddle 6 months or so and love it! Easily using it at least 3 or 4 times a week! My question, I haven't seen anyone do actual bone-in chicken on a griddle. Is it possible?
The fact you have a green intrigues me. I have a griddle and a traeger smoker. I thinking of looking into the green egg if you are looking to do a short video on that would interest me and maybe other. But I understand it's griddle with Johnny. Perhaps suggest a good Green egg you tuber. Can't wait for your next up load.
The Fogo Channel has some good green egg stuff. But that's all pro green egg. If you're on the fence about it I'm not sure if you'll get much of an unbiased review. Overall I would say if your traeger is working fine the only thing the egg will do that the traeger won't is direct grilling. So I would hold off, but if the traeger dies I do think the egg is better because there's not electronics and it has a lifetime warranty on all the main parts.
@@JohnnyBrunet Thank you Johnny. I looked into it after your video and you are right the Traeger suits my needs. I was look at the egg for the charcoal effect burger grilling but it looks like I can get that with a Weber Kettle for cheap money.
@@nealpizza7531 absolutely that was going to be my next suggestion. If you just want some charcoal flavor grab a small Webber kettle. I had the little one for a while. Even with that you can get 4 burgers on it. Or if you wanted you could smoke a bunch of chicken on the treager and sear them two at a time as they came off the treager. Glad it was helpful
I've never heard of Cincy Light. I live in the desert southwest and I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that "Cincy" refers to Cincinnati? I can find plenty of Canadian beer here but hey, I'll look for it on the shelves of our local beer stores. Why not, eh?
Johnny, I was wondering if you would entertain the idea of making a video about the less pleasant things about griddling or cooking outside in general. Things like bugs, bugs on the griddle, bugs in the food, bird poop, annoying neighbors who want you to cook for them, neighbors who are annoyed by people who cook outside (and drink beer), rogue weather, the endless trips in and out of the house and I STILL FORGOT SOMETHING, and usually more dishes than cooking in the house. I love cooking outside, you’re a funny guy. It might make a great video.
One more Pro to add. I guy can NOT grill properly without having a cold one. It's against all grilling edict! So by owning a griddle, this is one more reason to have to have a beer while cooking. Oh I know there are folks going to shake their heads about drinking in the morning but it you just add some tomato or V-8 juice to your barley pop, you now have a breakfast drink. 👍 great instructional videos Johnny!!!
I have owned a Camp Chef Expedition 3x w/ a 24" x 18" griddle for 18 years. I have used it for thousands of hours and fed countless people with it. They are good for flat foods and sausages. Breakfast items lend themslves well to griddles. A lot of sandwiches are good on them. Boneless Steaks are good on them. Grilled cheese sammiches, cheesesteaks, burgers, sliders, hot dogs, etc. all work. Boneless, skinless chicken pieces are a good choice. Rolled omelettes, pancakes, bacon - Duh. Certain cuts of fish lend themsleves to griddle cooking like halibut and skin-on salmon. Japanese Tepanyaki / Hibachi style cooking is obviously another good way to use a griddle. They're good for some things. But bone-in meats aren't a good choice for griddles. You're not slow-cooking or BBQ-ing on them, either. Get a basting lid to melt cheeses on burgers and to steam foods, some squeeze bottles for oil and water and you're good to go.
I’m here to support your beer drinking, oh and learn from the griddle GOAT, now I just need someone to support my beer drinking 🤣🍻 happy Father’s Day Johnny , cheers 🍻
Cooking outside is a plus, cleaning the surrounding area is a lot easier than cooking inside. But meal prep is certainly the best, everyone gets to eat at the same time.
I absolutely hate the bacon smell and grease inside the house.. I make the whole package of bacon outside now on the blackstone. I've learned how to make salmon on the griddle, BBQ chicken. MY omelets are soo much easier to make outside. And last but not least, I'm able to make the biggest pancakes in the world. They cover the entire plate and my children love them
Lowe's, as we speak. I purchased a Royal Gourmet 4 burner just last night for $265 ($109 off!) with a free soft cover, and free shipping to the house. The sale ends July 3rd. There were a few more deals with free stuff added in, and some with the porcelain coating that I'm not so sure about. (Hey, it's Father's Day. And my Sweetie Pie said I could.)
If you're on the fence about buying a griddle, get one on marketplace used. Then a month later when you see how awesome they are then look for the sales. I bought a used 36 in 4 burner blackstone for 100 bucks. Worth every penny. Season it with onions. It works great.
Yes. It's not necessarily the tool - the user is much more important. Outdoor kitchens w/ a grill, griddle, smoker, side burners, etc. are the bomb - in the right hands!
Griddle for breakfast and hibachi...Life can't get any better! P.S. I hope "John" the scromelette maker can expand his horizons by attempting some other items in your future videos. 😄
Had my griddle for a year now. I probably use it on average once a week, sometimes 2 or 3 times one week then nothing the next. Would I get rid of it NO. Steaks tonight, hot sear on the griddle then in the egg low & slow to temp. Nothing beats a griddle breakfast.
love my blackstone. however, depending on your personal preference you want/need more.(in my opinion). smashburgers etal flat top reigns. pub style burgers=charcoal. chicken = gas grill. fat meat =smoker. asian dishes = outdoor wok. and guess what? they all allow "happy" mistakes. it's all about sometimes good and sometimes half-assed food but always fun. and of course beers.

(My grandkids think I'm the greatest cook on earth because of them)
But, it depends on what you want and like to do.

Same here.
Man sounds like you got a sweet set up.
The griddle is awesome, and there are no smells in the house. 3 months ago I bought one. Veggies and other stuff. Chicken, ribs on the grill. Slow cooking on BBQ kettle. Enjoy your videos. Cheers, happy mistakes
Johnny you are a HOOT, love your channel, keep them coming, thank you.
Thanks, will do!
You helped me figure out I wanted a griddle for my tiny squaredrop camper - I can do all 3 meals and then some on the griddle...
I have a weber a Traeger and my go to is my Griddle
Fried Rice, burgers and breakfast I love it thanks for your videos
Like I always say I didn’t even know I needed a griddle until I got one for Xmas from my daughter. Happy Father’s Day Johnny.
Thanks for posting.
My combination of pellet grill and griddle has elevated my cooking game.
Messed up too much meat, too fast.)
The Griddle, I believe, would complement the Smokin' and Grillin' for about every meal.
Beer is overrated. Just kidding. Beer is proof that God loves us.
I love my griddle. I agree on the versatility. And also cleanup is not my fav, but all in all I love it. I also have a Weber kettle and a Weber gas grill that has a smoker too. Love them all for different reasons. But the flat top is awesome.
My outdoor Blackstone and indoor Vevor electric griddle were two of the best purchases that I've ever made!
I don't know where you are but here in North Texas DFW area my griddle is used all 4 seasons. Mine is super old but keeps going. I always have a cover on it so upkeep is minimal.
I'm in Ohio. I use min close to all 4 seasons but the winter gets a little dicey.
I would enjoy seeing some of your smoker recipes and how you work the "Green Egg."
I have used a pellet smoker for years, but the "Egg" intrigues me.
Great video. Love my EVO griddle. Just had couple ham and cheese on rye this afternoon
Man that's one of my favorites that I always forget about. Some chips and a pickle on the side and I'm good to go.
I agree with you on the points you made. Each cooking method has its own purpose. I have two smokers a charcoal grill and a gas grill. By far, the gas grill is least used. Keep up the great down to earth content!
Thanks Chris!
(good excuse to sit in the sun for a few hours and sink a few beers though!)
I don't think Griddles are that big in the UK yet (I'm the only person I know) but every time I have a cookout, everyone asks about it and is amazed at what you can do with it.
QUOTE: "Cook space is massively increased from pans in the house..." HUGE point + less mess = WIN WIN WIN
i use my griddle 10x more than I ever used a gas grille or even my pellet smoker. So versatile.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate you watching.
@@JohnnyBrunet thanks dawg. i am kinda cheating right now and getting inspiration from this channel haha. currently rocking two lodge cast iron griddles on top of my propane grills grates. works ok.

Eating, now, is more fun than the above three with the time off, and it’s nice to be in front of the griddle and the RecTeq pellet smoker. Still buying my pants and shirts in the Boys Department, so I created room to eat! (60 pounds lost at rock bottom)
@@jeffhenderson3318 wow! Well hopefully you put some me weight back on and gain some strength.
A good griddle and a Weber 22.5 charcoal kettle grill are pretty much all you need 👍🏻
Yup.
I'm down with that. If you conquer the Weber you can do a turkey with Mesquite......oh yea
Get yourself a perforated grill pan to cook veggies over charcoal.
I'll finally be buying myself a griddle for my birthday next month. Looking at a 30" 3 burner griddle with a side burner.
Would there be a big difference to having 4 burners vs 3 for zone cooking?
Ya those perforated pans are super nice. And no I don't think there's a huge difference between a 3 or 4 burner.
Pro #3.... I couldn't agree more sir. Best piece I've ever bought. My only nit pick is i like your grease/oil catch better then my Blackstone. Cheers Sir!
Cheers my friend.
Great overview on the tools of outdoor cooking! Excellent job!
Thanks Dennis.
If something happens to my griddle, I would get a new one the next day. My gas grill is about ready to rust completely out and I won't be replacing it. Great points.
Truth.
Off to a great start, plenty of beer!
I love the delivery of your channel.. drinkin and a cookin lol...btw how far north is that cincy beer distributed. I do like craft brews...
Thanks man! I think they're in Pennsylvania Michigan and possibly Minnesota. But I don't believe they go up the East Coast

Keep up the great content. And thanks for sharing pal.
Well I definitely have some sponsored video but yes I try not to do it all the time. I appreciate support Steve!
(And they came out really good, too!)
Thanks for the Videos! I'll be back. Happy Father's Day!
Awesome congratulations on the new griddle and I'm glad the steaks came out!

Great video dude. I love my egg, gas, and kettle grills! But they each have their own job. I wouldn’t drill a hole with a sawsall.

Well said my friend.
@@JohnnyBrunet I couldn't agree more
Johnny, I love your channel and I haven't even bought a griddle yet! I am about to purchase one and something I want to ask your thoughts on.

Thanks so much. So you can buy it can build up some grease on the roof of the structure you're cooking under.
@5:10 I feel your pain, i just gave up and switched to the plastic blades

Great news!
I've never used a Recteq but have heard fantastic things about it. Thanks for the good info. I need to check them out one day.
10:00 minutes - bacon point was on point. Cleaner, less odor, etc.
The backyard looks nice.
Thank you.
My seasoning is starting to flake off in spots. Whats the best way to strip it off? Drill with a wire brush?
Yes that's how I did it. I had a battery powered that kept running out. So if you got an electric drill I recommend that.
i hear you on the trends. it's fun though. first it was kayaks, then smokers, super nintendos, nirvana t shirts (love it), and griddles.
Oh I'm not judging they're definitely a lot of fun. And I've done .y fair share.
Also your secret is safe with me 🤣🤣👏
Couldn't have said it better!
Love the video, lol. My grandson is heading to Columbus for 4th of July. Are there some cool, fun places to visit?
Oh awesome!!! I guess it depends what he likes. There's lots of breweries, and the zoo is very nice. Other than that I really liked Grandview when I lived there. A very walkable little town.
Thanks! I've passed it along.
So true my friend. Also I'm stealing that sledgehammer for a tack line 😁
@@JohnnyBrunet go for it!
🤣🤣 I agree always go big or go home.
Johnny you probably guessed my response, the griddle in not overrated at all. I live in an apartment where I cannot cook outside so I got an Blackstone indoor griddle. Best purchase I have made. I probably use my griddle 3 or 4 times more than my Instant Pot.
Ya I figured you'd be on team griddle Guy!
You definitely can but I haven't done it yet. I would recommend using a dime to make sure you cook it all the way through.
Oh ya it's out of Cincinnati. Don't know if it's all the way out there but def look for it!
Ya that's a great idea! I will save it for April fools next year. I think it would be a fun video.
Great video, thank Johnny!
My pleasure!
I agree with your analysis. I could stand to have some low volume Jazz elevator music in the background
Thanks Jerry.
Amen.
Had to switch to coffee years ago. Barley pops tend to contribute to my size eleven mouth.
Hey I firmly support your beer drinking as well. We gotta stick together!
They cover the entire plate and my children love them
Plate sized pancakes are where it's at!! You just can't beat the smile on kids faces when you give it to them.
Could you use liquid smoke to get that smoky flavor?
Ya you could try that for sure
Seems different brands and features do make a difference. Investigate!!! Utube research!!! Chat with you buddies!!!
It still bugs me that you leave your beer on the griddle surface vs the side table, but I want you to use a coaster too! 😜
Now that is funny!
Been on the fence about which one to get so haven't got one yet, and the sales have not been significant enough.
watch craigslist and marketplace. often half price or less. you'll have to derust and season.

That's so funny! Our son gave us his old one, and I got hooked! We just bought a 3-burner Weber we love it so much.
Yes this is very good advice.
Yes. It's not necessarily the tool - the user is much more important.
Outdoor kitchens w/ a grill, griddle, smoker, side burners, etc. are the bomb - in the right hands!
Good video!!
Thanks
Glad you liked it!
I like the beer point of view. It's always honest.
The best part of my griddle is the more stuff I get to cook outside. Plus my house won’t smell like a Waffle House after making smash burgers.
Lol so true.
Hey the number ONE reason to have a griddle is that it gives you a reason to watch your videos. Face it, that's a fact! 😊
😅
Lol thanks so much my friend.
Thank you my man great vid
No problem 👍
Griddle for breakfast and hibachi...Life can't get any better! P.S. I hope "John" the scromelette maker can expand his horizons by attempting some other items in your future videos. 😄
🤣🤣🤣 "John" has a long way to go. But he's definitely ready to try new stuff.
Had my griddle for a year now. I probably use it on average once a week, sometimes 2 or 3 times one week then nothing the next. Would I get rid of it NO. Steaks tonight, hot sear on the griddle then in the egg low & slow to temp. Nothing beats a griddle breakfast.
I totally agree.
Another great video, Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
I fought the Pellet Grill urge for years as I have a XL big green egg, after getting the pellet grill, the egg is lonely
Can I do chicken ties and breast or normal pork on it? Is the taste far different than a gas grill?
Ya you can do all those things. I do think you'll get a different taste. Not better or worse but different. Kind of like doing it in a cast iron.
Wanting to purchase some Johnny Koozies for my beers!!!
love my blackstone. however, depending on your personal preference you want/need more.(in my opinion). smashburgers etal flat top reigns. pub style burgers=charcoal. chicken = gas grill. fat meat =smoker. asian dishes = outdoor wok. and guess what? they all allow "happy" mistakes. it's all about sometimes good and sometimes half-assed food but always fun. and of course beers.
I think that is an accurate and excellent breakdown.
