Another great vid Johnny! Love how you say "singing is why people leave videos" then proceed to sing 2 more times before the vid is over. Just got my Blackstone this weekend, seasoned it according to your recommendations, and it turned out perfectly. Also followed your instructions for smash burgers last night, the absolute best burger I have ever had!!! Double cheese, double patty, flat top onions and some homemade burger sauce. OH MY WORD!!! Thanks for all of your content Johnny!

Don't be tempted to over-size the burgers. They'll still be good, but the smash burger vibe is to have them with small holes when you smash it down so you get all the crunchy edges and deliciousness. We made that rookie mistake.

Will be trying the onion tip by the weekend.
A tip for cutting onions without tears: (being doing this for years for my wife when she makes soups) Cut the top of the onion off (horizontal cut) Then make all of your cuts down toward the root but, stop before you go all the way through. She wants diced onions so for me, it's about 6 slices down a large onion, then rotate the onion 90 degrees and do 6 more . Next, peel back the outer skin and chop the rest of the onion into the sizes you want, this time, horizontally. (turn onion on its' side) This works because when slicing the onion the "normal way" as you showed, the cells are cut, releasing the sulphur. Cutting down through the onion doesn't disturb the cells the same way.
Try it. Make a video on it if it worked for you!

Here's a gardening tip: Some plants spread underground. I'm not sure all of them or if the 4 you showed us do, but stuff like Mint or bamboo will spread like CRAZY. So you should grow these in a pot of appropriate size and not just in the ground. If using a raised garden bed, it should be sealed up on the bottom to prevent them from growing down and under. Bamboo will grow like 1-3 feet down to go under and come up outside your raised bed!

    • @harleyhawk7959

yes indeed, especially bamboo. NEVER plant bamboo unless it is well contained.

Which makes me wonder. In this video it looks like it has rained there, and the sky sure looks cloudy. What do you do with your griddle? Do you roll it inside or leave it out? How do you deal with rain and dampness with your griddles?

When planting seeds, sprinkle some cinnamon in there as well. It will help the seedling when they sprout. DO NOT miss any watering. keep the seedling warm until they have more than 2 leaves then start taking them outside if you started them indoors, only for a few hours a day until they get bigger to harden them. then transfer them to a bigger pot or put them in the ground. If you start them outside you'll need a cover over them until they are big enough to hold up to wind and rain.

Great video as always. If my griddle comes pre seasoned, do I still need to burn off a couple layers of oil? Should I trust the marketing? I’m going to wash it first, but not sure if I should use soap with the water. Will the soap remove some of the pre seasoning? Bought a Weber Slate 30”.

Thanks for the videos! I have just made my first smash burgers, and I hate to say it but I don't see what the attraction is in the smashing part. The burger itself tasted really plain to me. BTW, I grew up in Ohio too, near Akron, and now live in Canada.
I do the onions and cheese like you do, though I can't find American cheese up here so I use medium cheddar. To one lb. of meat I add one slice of white bread shredded finely by hand. This helps retain the juices when cooking. I also add one egg which acts as a binder, salt, lots of coarse black pepper, and thyme to taste. For me that is about 1/2 tsp thyme per lb of medium hamburger (80/20). Add some shredded cheese to the meat and mix as gently as possible. Burgers are 4 or 5 per lb of meat, flattened, but NOT smashed flat on a paper plate, then transferred to a 425 - 450F griddle. 3 minutes on the first side and two minutes on the second yields a beautiful crust all over the burger, yet it is still very moist and bursting with flavour. I have no sticking whatsoever of the burger on the griddle, and this might be because I don't smash it into the hot metal.

Basil grows like a weed, so you’re smart to grow it yourself. You should be able to use it around 60 days after planting. Don’t plant the seeds too deep (1/4” below the top of the soil is fine). It loves full sun. If you’re planting it in pots, water every morning. Watch a video on cutting / harvesting basil. That’s important. Cutting it properly will make the plant grow more leaves. Your plants will die in 4 to 6 months. That’s just the way they are. Eventually, the plant will “go to seed”. That’s a sign that the plant is nearing the end of its lifecycle. You can cut the flowers off the top of the plants to extend their life a little. You can take cuttings, root them and replant them and have basil forever. You can also harvest the seeds right before the plants die. So, the good news is if you’re careful and diligent, you should never have to buy basil or basil seeds ever again. That’s easier said than done, but it’s possible. Cool video!!! 🍻

Cook several meals on it at one time. We cooked 20 lbs of chicken tenders, vacuum sealed them and froze them. Now we just heat some water, thow a bag of chicken tenders in the water and heat. Taste like they just came off the griddle....

It's ok it may dust again but I doubt it. And I totally agree with the meal prep idea.

Hmm that's very weird that it is unsubscribing you. Hopefully it's still suggesting the videos.

0:41 Was curious if you have any preferred paper towels to use that dont leave fuzzies behind? I use Viva currently, haven't seen anyone touch on this subject really and it's super annoying!

No I don't have any specific kind I use whateve my wife buys. But yes they all seem to leave fuzzies which is super annoying.
